Japanese-Hawaiian Brunch Restaurant Morning Wood is Popping Up in the Castro | Eater SF

"Downtown Palo Alto finally got an Ike’s Place at 401 Lytton Avenue, and I note the new shop is offering three Palo Alto–specific sandwiches: the Jim Harbaugh (chicken, pepper jack cheese, sweet chili glaze), the Mayfield (salmon, avocado, sweet chili glaze), and Kermit the Frog (cucumber, avocado, cream cheese, sweet chili glaze)." - Janelle Bitker

Put your order in, go pick it up. Only two people work at this location, sometimes takes a long time. Know exactly what you want, the menu is on the wall above, on the side... Place is crammed, reliable sandos to go. Just do it online. Explorers stay away. $40 for two sandwiches, too saucy. Not healthy.

Google
Ordered a side of onion rings with two sandwiches and it took 10 min to make the sandwiches they forgot about the order and when they did make it it was three peices of onion rings that were sun par mushy and limp waste of 5 bucks. When the girl at the register asked for the ranch on the side the two guys in the back ignored her blatantly. It made me want to react. They obviously have issues in the workers department and they need to maybe pay more attention to how they are running all these shops. I've been a customer since 2004 this was by far the worst location. Side note bad location for the menu.

Ike’s is my favorite sandwich shop! They have a sandwich for every mood you're in hehe- This is one of my go to spots for a quick and cheap ($8 - $13) but super filling meal. Personally I’m not a big fan of sandwiches but Ike’s converts me to the biggest sandwich lover every time I go! During peak hours (lunch/dinner time) I would definitely suggest trying calling beforehand so that your order is ready when you arrive. They do have a lot of people calling in so often times it’s hard to get a hold of them. They do have an app which I haven’t tried but I heard that during the holidays they had some special menu items available on the app. Even if you go in person to order, they’re pretty fast, ~10 minute wait for them to prepare your sandwich. My favorite sandwiches are: Matt Cain (a deli meat sandwich), [Your Sorority or Frat] (fried chicken!!), and The Damon Bruce (a hefty steak sandwich). There are so many unique and fun sandwiches on the menu!

Google
This is one of my favorites sandwich shop for vegetarian and vegan sandwiches that are tasty. I had the opportunity to meet the owner more then a decade ago and had a chance to try his sandwiches. Highly recommend this place for all your vegan options.

Google
They have so many varieties of sandwiches, I don't know how you couldn't find one you loved. They're consistently fantastic and craveable, I'm so glad they opened one in Palo Alto! Sorry for the low quality photo, taken after eating half of my menage a trois sandwich (SO GOOD)

Google
First all of, it keeps getting recommended on Uber eats even though I’m far far away from this place (I was in RWC) … Secondly, it took the store 35min to full my order… This place is so chaotic. Go somewhere else if you can help it.

Google
Good experience here! One star off because I went twice during their “open” hours and they were closed, but when I did finally get a sandwich it was great! Friendly service and the sandwich came out fast - was hot and fresh. Might ask for lighter sauce next time as it was very saucy. Loved the caramel apple pop!

Google
Great sandwich and snacks but small area and limited seats

Yelp
As part of my visit to Palo Alto office once a week I tried the Ike's sandwich for lunch today with high hopes. And I was disappointed. There are 2 things that makes me unhappy when it comes to food. 1. If the taste is not good. 2. If the dish is unhealthy. like how can you make a simple healthy sandwich so unhealthy? The greese was oozing out of the double wrapped liners. And this was with just 1/2 slice of cheese. Their usual is 3 slices. Hmm So yeah both points checked off today and I was disappointed to say the least. I ordered the Elvis Keith (numbered 1 on the menu). Its a simple halal chicken, swiss cheese , lettuce onion tomato and wasabi mayo. Nothing was tasty in this sandwich. It was sweet (maybe due to teriyaki sauce) and no hint of heat (hello wasabi are you there?) The only good thing about this is the portion size. Its great for 2 people. I was starving today so I was able to eat 3/4th. I dont get the hype. Subway sandwiches are better. Sorry Ike's.

Yelp
I was a bit hesitant given some of the reviews but I had a great experience. Ordered online and had the Cam Brink on Dutch crunch which was a pastrami based sandwich with tons of ingredients. Sandwich was huge! Service was quick and friendly. Sandwich was already waiting to be picked up when I arrived. Great quality - would definitely consider back.

Yelp
First time here and we enjoyed our sandwiches and service. The guy at the counter was so patient with all of our questions! Hubby and I shared a Meatless Mike on whole wheat but subbed out provolone for the pepper jack. Delicious! The meatballs were moist and yummy. Just the right amount of marinara so it wasn't messy to eat. Think we'd try the pepper jack cheese next time. We were glad that we shared the sub because it was huge! There is a counter inside with a few chairs. Additional tables and chairs outside shaded by the overhang.

Yelp
My wife went today to pick up sandwiches for us. The Matt Cain and the Ruben. Staff tells my wife they are out of turkey, halal chicken and tuna. The Matt Cain has turkey in it so they ask if she wants more salami or something else like bacon. She opts for more salami. When I open on the sandwich, I literally see one sad slice of salami. The roast beef wasn't much more either. This place is so stingy with their meat. For a $16 sandwich, I would expect way more meat than that. I'm not expecting Katz deli amount of meat but c'mon. It's been awhile since I've had Ike's but I don't remember it being like this. I don't know if it's just this location or what. Whatever the reason, you lost yourself two customers who used to enjoy this place.

Yelp
Came here for my birthday. And because of that it was a good experience! First off, we were able to get one free sandwich. Otherwise, the going rate is about $15 a sandwich. It is large enough for two people to share unless you have a big appetite. So, you can calculate that it would be about $7.50 meal. Note that you do have to sign up as a vip member. With the membership you can also accumulate points to get some other free stuff. I didn't do dive deep to see what it was, maybe if you're bored you can check it out for me. :) The sandwich we ordered was the Andrew Luck on a dutch crunch. The main ingredients were chicken + bacon + avocado. I choose this because I wanted a sandwich with avocado. I believe this was one of the only ones with avocado. I could be wrong though. Oh, that reminds me, my other criteria, since i was getting a free sandwich, was that I had to choose the sandwich that was the most expensive, lol. The Andrew Luck won out based my two criteria, haha. We also ordered a bag of expensive Zapp's chips for $4. We thought we could also use the $5 that they offer for signing up for the VIP membership (only available for the first 24 hours after sign-up), but they said we can only use one offer at once. :( So, my advice is don't sign up for VIP on your actual birthday. You can sign up at least day before so you can use the $5 on one day and then get the free sandwich on your birthday. Gosh, I must sound really cheap. haha If I was in the area and looking for a quick meal, I would probably still come back for a sandwich. But if not, there's always my birthday. :)

Yelp
The guy there doesn't know how to make a sandwich!!! Who hired that dude??? First of all I ordered a Reading Rainbow sandwich and for what I got, I might as well gone to Subway!!! Second of all, the guy has blasting Mexican corridos music (I am Mexican) and I really don't like that music!!! And thirdly he was whipping his sweat every 5 seconds and after taking my order and using the cashier station, he was not gonna change his gloves to make my sandwich if I don't tell him to do so!!!

Yelp
Ike's where art thou? Not sure what happened to this place but it used to be good back in the day when there was only one location in SF. I got the menege a trois but had vegan chicken instead. The bread and flavors were great. I forgot to ask for it extra dirty. The issue I had was there there was like only two chicken pieces in the sandwich so basically half of it was without any vegan chicken. Im not asking for a packed sandwich would just like to have the chicken for the whole sandwich. I think regular chicken would be full. I probably wouldn't come back. I think it would be better off to go to a deli unless you wanted a crazy sandwich.

Yelp
My quest to hit as many unique Ike's locations as possible in 2023 brings me to the Bay Area. I worked in Palo Alto way back when and thus hand picked this location. To my surprise it was basically just a counter - no seats or fun Ike's flair like the lunch boxes or funky artwork. Also no tables and that's okay. My kids and I found a local park where low and behold I ran into a friend I worked with way back when. So thanks Ike's for not having seats. The staff here was friendly and on it and on this visit I saw something that made me said hmmmm How's It Going Be and as is always the case with Ike's the Stephan Jenkins was delicious.

Yelp
Very small little sandwich shop. When ordering with more than 2 people inside it felt crowded. A couple of outdoor seats. Quality of sandwhich is really good. I like that you can customize pretty much everything when it comes to the bread, veggies, how much sauce you want, ect. Takeout orders are really easy on the online app. Prices are higher for the quality...(just wished there was more meat in the sandwich-felt like it was lacking). Highly recommend. They have a lot of options. *don't forget to get the lollipop included*

Carol B.

Yelp
Whole order was wrong; not discovered until on airplane. Inedible. Very disappointed (and hungry) on long flight.

Yelp
I so wanted to have this be my new place. But my first experience was far from pleasant. I walked in to order my first Ike's sandwich. The girl behind the counter was clearly on a personal call and ignored me until I finally asked if she could help me. Very rudely, she glared at me, and replied 'it's going to take over 45 minutes". WHAT???? For a sub. I walked out and will never go back. Cannot recommend!!!!

Yelp
This location is just ok. It's more of a stop & go type of location. I feel like they mainly do catering here with lots and lots of online ordering. I ordered their tuna sandwich which was delicious and 5 stars all around but the wait took a while. I've never waited 15 mins for my sandwich to be done. I was so hungry! Their employees were boring and have low energy; they weren't energetic or enthusiastic at all. Regardless, I'd still definitely come back for their tuna sandwich!

Jose L.

Yelp
I got a Jaymee Sirewhich and added buffalo sauce. When I bit into my sandwich, I bit right into a bone, which is wild because the breaded/fried chicken doesn't have any bones. Additionally, the sandwich is CAKED in dirty sauce, more than the normal amount, even though I did not request extra dirty. When I called to get a refund, the woman who answered the phone was very short and was clearly trying to get me off the phone. She put me on hold, then came back and said "do you want us to remake it" and I began telling her no and that I couldn't go back but then she cut me off and said "We'll refund it" and hung up right away. Horrible experience, I'll def be ordering from the Mountain View location moving forward.
google avatar

Kevin M.

Yelp
Don't bother with online ordering. Your order will take well over an hour and won't be ready when they say it will. The cherry on top is when you show up and let them know you're there, they'll take other orders after yours and make their sandwiches before starting on yours. Very poor ordering experience, but the sandwiches are fine.
google avatar

Emily L.

Yelp
Can attest, this place is incredibly slow. Idk if it's just short staffed or what but it should not have to take an hour to make a single sandwich . If you can't handle online orders, don't offer them. I'm not interested in having my money and time wasted.

Dominic B.

Yelp
My friend told me Ike's had good sandwiches. I went to stop into this location. They had a catering order which I get. They asked me if I could come back in 30 minutes to an house. I was the only patron there. They seemed annoyed I was even there to get food. Then I asked if they had a chicken bacon ranch and they told me to choose a number and it would be 30-40 minutes. So I just ended up leaving.

Yelp
I'm leaving a one star review for two reasons. 1) The menu is DECEPTIVE. *THE BEEF SALAMI IS PORK AND NOT BEEF* I wanted to order the Matt Cain which includes: Roast Beef, Turkey and Beef Salami. However, according to the employee is is regular PORK and NOT beef like the menu indicates. I've ordered that Matt Cain at other locations and they have always reassured me that beef salami is used. That is not the case here!!! Beware to anyone and everyone!! 2) I ordered a sandwich and a side of Zucchini chips with ranch and Marinara sauce online. I picked up my order and took it with me to eat at a local park. I was not pleased to open my bag and and find 4 tiny pieces of Zuchinni and no sauce.. The large container that was placed in tricked me into thinking I was getting an average size side. I typically would have brushed it off but I was really looking forward to eating the fries bcz it's one of my faves! I do not come to Ikes often because it's far from my home. The Zucchini chips are really good, however, I'm paying extra for a side then I would expect to get appropriate portion instead of 4 measly oval shaped pieces. See photo.

David B.

Yelp
Worst freaking sandwich I've ever had I #347 asked for extra lettuce, extra onions, and no special sauce and no tomato of course I got everything I didn't ask for and everything I did ask for wasn't on the sandwich. I wouldn't be writing this review except for the smart ass attitude of the person I talked to when he said "it's OK if you don't come back, we have plenty of people come in here I know this for a fact, I will not be one of those people
google avatar

Ariel J.

Yelp
Updating my review bc this place needs to make some significant changes. There have been several times when the hours indicate that the store should be open, but the doors are locked & the sign says closed. It doesn't seem like the employees know the menu very well or have any understanding of dietary restrictions (& they certainly don't understand the Ike's Reward App). The sandwiches are still delicious, but half the time I'm not sure if I'll get exactly what I ordered or not. All around, there is no consistency or reliability. These issues plus the ever-present long wait times make for a pretty bad customer experience.

Yelp
I love Ike's, but this was my least pleasant experience. I came in with my girlfriend after a long road trip and ordered two turkey sandwiches at a time where they're doing halal-only turkey. We weren't told about the different turkey, which alone isn't a big deal, but the servers seemed very annoyed when we politely asked to exchange one of the sandwiches. We were told that's the turkey they're using for the next few weeks at this location only, while the owner is in town (something along those lines), however there was no mention on the menu or by the employees, and it felt like they were attempting to dismiss my inquiry. Neither my girlfriend nor I really enjoy smoked turkey, which is why we asked to exchange, and would have ordered something else if we knew about the change. It felt like the workers didn't want to swap our sandwich, but in the end they did, however, I felt a lot of discontent and annoyance with my request, which I don't think is fair. The other employee went to the back of the store mid-conversation during our exchange request, which I also felt was unprofessional. I've worked in the service/restaurant industry and I understand that these employees are paid minimally and I understand it can be a pain to swap food for a customer, and I make sure to always be polite and friendly. However, I thought it was rude and unprofessional to give us attitude for asking to exchange sandwiches when we weren't told the food was different from what we're used to. I didn't appreciate the other employee walking to the back mid-conversation. Hopefully they eat the sandwich that they took back or give it to a homeless person instead of throwing it away. Overall, it was just a negative experience and I'm disappointed with the lack of customer service and proper communication from my favorite sandwich chain. A "no worries, have a good night too" would have gone a long way.

Yelp
Ugh . Twice now i got sandwiches with hardly anything in them . The sauce is great but hardly any meat?!! This can't be their standard can it ? I spent $32 on DoorDash for the last sandwich (24 for sandwich ?!!) . I don't eat much of the bread so I was finished in about two mins .
google avatar

Sara R.

Yelp
Really good sandwiches with a wide selection. Plenty of vegan/vegetarian options to choose from. Great spot to pick up a sandwich to go on a hike or to the park with. I got the Matt Caine sandwich because it seemed like a popular one here. The sauce on it turned it from a basic sandwich to a delicious one. I will be back to try another one!

Dyl P.

Yelp
I would've given a higher review, except they included a non-vegan piece of candy in my order without asking. If some of the sandwiches are marked vegan, then when somebody orders one of them, they ought to ask before including a non-vegan item in that person's order. The non-vegan food item was a Tootsie Caramel Apple Pops, whose ingredients list included "skim milk", "heavy cream", and "whey".
google avatar

Octavia W.

Yelp
I've ordered sandwiches for lunch here quite a few times through door dash and for the most part, they've been delicious. For the amount of bread, I would say there's a lack of protein (bread-protein ratio), but they're always pretty tasty, and they have a lot of vegetarian and vegan options, which is a plus! My other take away is that when I actually went to the location in person, it wasn't the cleanest/somewhat dirty. This has caused a very unsettling, feeling within me and I probably won't order from them again, at least not this location unless they tidy up a bit. Cleanliness and sanitary issues are a concern.

Yelp
Ike's. That quintessentially Bay Area sandwich chain. Lets face it, there has been alot of hype surrounding it for years. From TV shows, to blogs, you see it everywhere. Fortunately for all of us, It lives up to the hype. First off, these are not light sandwiches. They tend to be heavily sauces, and really big. Most have alot of ingredients. Most locations have secret menu items you can order (they may differ by locations) and if you want to go for pure shock value and say have a party of 4 you can go for the biggest sandwich I have seen but never ordered the $30 Kryptonite.... This one of the newer Ike's location and is off the main drag in downtown Palo Alto. it is really a Spartan affair. There is a small standing area if you want to eat at the location but its really geared towards take out. For this trip I went with my old standby #91 The Paul Reuben's of course the bread is Dutch. I'm not sure what exactly goes into the making of the Dutch and have no idea if they are glazing it with crack, but they are some of the best crunch around. Thick and hot pastrami, and make no mistake its rich, is the base. Its topped with a purple cabbage slaw. The dressing is sweet and a bit heavy but it serves as a nice counter to the richness of the pastrami. The French dressing ties it all together and the Swiss cheese add a needed savory element to help balance the slaw and dressing. For my taste I add peppers and extra red onions (and lettuce and tomato). The additions are necessary to bring the wich into balance for my palate. Its a super messy delight. As noted its a takeout situation here and the parking can really suck depending on the time of day. But it's Ike's and its close. Nuff said

Yelp
Ikes Ikes Ikes... What else can I say about these superior sandwich making professionals! They took care of my sandwich needs! Super fast and really friendly. All the toppings and meats that I would want in between two beautiful pieces of Dutch Crunch...

Yelp
1/16/21- The best sandwich I've had in a long time! Ingredients were all quite fresh and the flavor of the sandwich was excellent. Thank goodness Ike's also toasts their sandwiches too. Worth the hype! -Matt Cain (Fan award: Best Sports Sandwich!)- Includes roast beef, turkey, salami, godfather sauce, provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion, and dirty sauce on Dutch Crunch bread (toasted). Highly recommend Ike's! I usually don't eat much meat so I was skeptical about the Matt Cain, which has triple deli meats. However, a friend recommended it and I did not regret it one bit. Usually the deli meats can make the sandwich way too salty for me but all the ingredients balanced deliciously at Ike's. Their famous toasted Dutch Crunch bread is also a must-try! There's an excellent golden crunch texture and the sauces add a creamy aroma with each bite. The sandwich was neatly wrapped, which made for a simple, no-mess eating experience. -Price/value- The Matt Cain was $13 and I would happily come back to Ike's again. The other sandwiches range from $9-13 and they have both meat and vegan options! -Store ambience and experience- The downside to Ike's is that the store is very small so there's no sit-down area at all. It's more of a pick-up/takeout window. The gentleman who took my order was very courteous too. To date, Ike's might be my favorite sandwich place yet!

Tina W.

Yelp
Disgusting store! Dark, dingy, dirty, cramped. Trash on unwiped surfaces. Unpacked boxes everywhere. Cooler and chips shelves not well stocked. Two lackluster staff. Will not come back.

Yelp
First time at Ike's. The sandwiches were good. They needed more meat inside for sure but the taste was nice. The place is very small inside. Everything is to go unless you eat on the outside tables. The young lady taking my order was very nice and was patient with the big rush of customers at 1pm.

Yelp
Finally!!!!! I've been waiting for this place to open for years. So long in fact that I actually forgot I was waiting. I feel like it was at least a couple years since the plastic banner of "Ike's Place Coming Soon!" went up. Alas, I simply thought the permits from The City of Palo Alto weren't being issued, and my beloved Ike's visits would have to be restricted to Stanford University or in downtown Redwood City. But!!! Behold.... the sandwich gods had other plans. The doors finally opened for business, and they're churning out the sandwiches that they are so famous for. On this visit my usual lunch companion and I ordered two sammys. One - Sometimes I'm A Vegetarian and the Stephan Jenkins, plus two bags of chips, and two drinks. Total $28 and change. After ordering, it took about 10 minutes to receive our order, and we were here after the typical lunch rush. So the timing was not too shabby... Our lunches were tasty, as well as their signature gratis apple-caramel lollipops. I forgot how good those things are... So why four stars instead of five???I am taking away a star due to their very underripe tomatoes that were included between my golden halves of Dutch Crunch. Those little boogers were so far inferior to put in a sandwich. They probably should have stayed on the vine for at least another week. You know the kind I'm talking about. The lightly pink, flavorless kind. Yuck. I had to take all of them out they were so unpalatable. I'll definitely be back, but might skip the tomatoes as a topping. Nevertheless, it's nice to have a good sandwich shop so close to downtown Palo Alto. This Ike's also does catering if you're looking for a huge haul of sandwiches for a party or crew.

Yelp
Ike's is old news in terms of their menu and such, but like everyone else I have been eagerly awaiting this location. Downtown Palo Alto has a lack options for a decent, affordable, to-go lunch and Ike's perfectly solves that problem. I am probably bias because I basically grew up in the old coffee shop that formally occupied this space - Lytton Roasting Company. This location of Ike's doesn't have any seating. If you walk down Waverley Street (away from downtown), one block away is Johnson Park, a public park with benches, picnic tables, and a playground.

Yelp
Hands down the BEST sandwiches in California. Big thanks to Ben for his help and guidance in picking the right sandwiches. We ordered 5 to-go and Ben was very proactive and consultative. He knows the menu well and was extremely patient with us. Ike's management team: please take good care of Ben! It's people like him who make customers like us loyal to the Ike's brand.

Yelp
Ike's Sandwiches are soooo good! My favorite is the Jaymee Sirewich. I've recently been having a lot of issues with this location. I frequently order Ike's from here and the Downtown Palo Alto location, and I would have to say this place is the worst. Ordering on Doordash and waiting for it to be delivered takes at least 45 minutes to 90 minutes. I'm pretty sure this is because they're really busy during lunch, so I always order before lunch to get my food delivered on time. Today, I ordered through Doordash again and this time, they forgot to add lettuce on all my sandwiches. I've never had this problem with other locations, but again I'm assuming it's because the workers are just slammed with orders.

Yelp
Honestly, I really don't care what it looks like inside. lol. What I care about is how good the freaking sandwiches are. And the sandwiches are fucking incredible. So yes. This place is good.

Yelp
This has Probably been the worse Ike's I've been too, The customer service was ok, kinda got a shit we got customers vibe from the cashier today while I was on my lunch break, I ordered the Andrew luck on Dutch crunch and added jalapeños and mushrooms, this sandwich was the skimpiest Ike's sandwich I've ever gotten from Ike's it was such a sad sandwich, I should of just drove to the downtown Redwood City location to get a nice sandwich , then the cashier ask me do you want your Lollypop of course that's what Ike's is famous for why would you even ask... Probably won't come again, sad to say subway was Probably a better choice today than this location

Margaret M.

Yelp
If I could give zero stars, I would! I placed an order through a *corporate catering service provider one week before my scheduled office lunch for ~40 people to arrive at 12:15pm. My order was accepted by Ike's, no problem. I received a confirmation at 9:15 the morning of my event - order was on track for delivery at 12:15. At 12:14pm I receive a text that my food is on it's way, followed immediately by a text that said my food has been delivered. I head down to the office lobby to see if it's there, head outside to a different entrance to the building, even headed across the way to see if it was mistakenly delivered to our neighbor. NO FOOD ANYWHERE. All the while, I was on the phone with the catering service - they said the picture of the delivery shows the door of Ike's Love & Sandwiches????? The catering service manages to speak to the sandwich shop and "there was a mix up with the order. It will be about 45 minutes". We had a strict 1 hour window (12:30-1:30) for lunch due to an in office training event - at this point it was about 12:25 - far too late to place an entire new order with a different company, so I said to continue with the order. A few minutes later, I get an email stating Ike's Love & Sandwiches has cancelled my order and can no longer cater this order!!!! They cancelled my order at the time lunch was supposed to be served! Needless to say, I still needed to provide lunch for the office - so I had to place an entirely new order at a different sandwich shop and pick up the order myself to try to cut down on timing. Finally served lunch to a very hangry office at 2:15. NOT COOL IKE'S, NOT COOL! I will NEVER order from Ike's again. Period.

Yelp
Genuinely love the ikes sandwiches as a vegan. The staff is friendly. However i don't know what it is about this location I've tried it a couple of times. Every single time they have messed up a vegan sandwich from the vegan section. Meatless mike but with real meat. The owl with wasabi mayo that went bad(couldn't finish the sandwich). My husband went in for 2 meatless mikes(our favorites), and they heard "bacon" when asked for "vegan". So it was a vegan meatless mike with bacon. Didn't find out until we got home! :(

Yelp
I ordered 111, the ménage a trois, As is. I was really bummed when I saw that it didn't have enough meat. Overall the flavor is good but it's just mainly bread. The only reason it's 3 stars not 2 is because the flavor is good and the bread was toasted really well.

Yelp
Usually loves ikes but haven't been to this location ... today i got hella suck from eating here. I wish that wasn't the case but Damn I feel so sick I'm writing this at 3 am Cuz I can't sleep and going to the bathroom constantly. Might not recommend the Steve young sandwich anymore. It's my fave at the Mountain View location. In general I think this location need to focus on cleanliness I think it's definitely the lesser maintained ones.

Yelp
This newer addition to the famed Ike's Sandwiches does the brand proud with a well curated list of sandwiches, many which are Stanford/Palo Alto specific. The only downside--not tables or chairs to eat at this place--they should REALLY just call this a "Take Out Sandwich Spot...." The 7-eleven across the street is perfect to find a broad array of chips, drinks or snacks. This location seems to have a slightly smaller selection of chips and drinks here, but they always have my favorite chips: Voodoo Heat. Killer chips with thick potato cuts and a broad spicing w mild heat. Favorite sandwiches: the "Menage a trois" continues to be my #1 GoTo sandwich. On this trip we had the Mark Appel (EXCELLENT FRIED CHICKEN SANDWICH), Paul Reuben (w purple cabbage) and the Andrew Luck. The Mark Appel sandwich is very close to rivaling the Menage a Trois sandwich. Only downside again: this is really a takeout joint.

Yelp
They make decent sandwiches (it's the Ike's menu), but this place is honestly pretty run down compared to many other local locations (Burlingame) and we waited a pretty long time for our order. Not in downtown Palo Alto, slow, dirty and disorganized, best advice is order ahead and pick up if you can so you don't have to linger there. Or eat somewhere else.

Yelp
This location of Ikes is kind of tucked in the corner. This is a great lunch spot in Redwood city. The sandwhiches are $10 to $15 and big enough I have them for 2 meals. If you havent had Dutch crust I highly recommend trying it! I had the Pumpkin sandwhich on dutch crust with no cheese. I thought the Vegan chicken was similar in taste and texture to the animal. The Pesto adds a pop of flavor to the sandwhich which I find delightfully. They have Voodoo chips at Ikes as well which are basically Salt and Vinegar chips with a hint of BBQ! A delightfully combo!

Yelp
I was once a huge Ikes fan but wow this location has left me thinking its over. The place was incredibly dirty and they got my order wrong twice.

Yelp
Ike's is turning out to be one of my top places for lunch. Since I work in Palo Alto, I like options for a delicious and quick lunch. The place is only big enough for pick up and there is a counter if you want to eat there, but most people will take their sandwich to go. The service I find is quick and friendly. Besides the menu sandwiches that have awesome names, but if none of those combinations tickle your fancy, they will make any sandwich you want them to. One day, I had a craving for a roast beef sandwich, so the guy said he could make one for me with mushrooms and avocados. Hmmmm that sounds good, sure! It's usually a 5 min. wait for them to make it. And then they call your name and you're on your way with the paper bag and a candy inside. Tip: When they had their Valentine's Day special, it was crazy lines, so we didn't have time to wait. Go early next year.

Yelp
Decided to give Ike's a try since we always see people lined up outside so we were curious. Sandwiches take a little while to prepare (ours were 15-20 minutes) so factor that into your plan if you're going on a lunch hour. They're also pretty pricey for sandwiches but they were HUGE and very delicious once we got to eating them. I got the one with pesto an honey and my husband got the one with all the meats and we were both extremely pleased with flavor and ingredients. Each bite was fantastic! It would probably be ideal to save half for another meal, but we both finished ours in one sitting :) Oh and the mozzarella sticks were interesting but not special enough to get again; they didn't come with any sauce for dipping either so a little dry, haha. Otherwise will definitely go again sometime!

Yelp
It's here! I know, I'm late, but I've been waiting for this Ike's location to open for years. Now that it's here, I couldn't be happier. I've had the Matt Cain (with cream cheese, on Dutch Crunch, of course), the chocolate chunk cookie and the bourbon pecan pie (so much bourbon!) All are delicious and you should definitely brave the 30 minute line to try them all. The sandwiches (served up by Ike himself!) will keep me coming back for a long time to come. Next up to try are the Giancarlo, My Son and Linsanity. With cream cheese on Dutch Crunch, of course.

Yelp
This space has been empty for quite a lkng time. The cafe and Thai places that were here seem like eons ago. So many restaurants in the area but so much mediocrity too. The quality just jumped significantly with Ike's moving into the area. For now they're a bare bones crew but they have all the sandwiches and a couple locale specific ones to boot. Matt Cain is one of my go to's and it doesn't disappoint. I guess hours will expand by the end of the year. Enamored that they've moved into the downtown dining selection
