Ike's Love & Sandwiches

I’m a world traveler and pretty picky about my sandwiches — and Ike’s has officially secured a spot as one of my all-time favorites. I used to get the Pence Special in Scottsdale, and the fact that they can replicate it perfectly here is impressive. Their Godfather sauce is unmatched, and the menu has endless options for every craving. I also really appreciate that they honor a veteran discount — small gestures like that go a long way and never go unnoticed. But the real highlight of this visit was Andrew, the gentleman working the counter. He welcomed us the moment we walked in, made great recommendations, and his personality was genuinely the star of the show. As a hospitality manager myself, I wish more employees had even half of his energy, warmth, and guest-focused mindset. He’s an absolute asset to the team, and I truly hope leadership recognizes that. Great food, and even better service. I’d honestly drive from Chula Vista again just to be helped by Andrew. THANK YOU!

We tried Ike’s for the first time through Uber Eats and had a great experience right off the bat. They were running an awesome BOGO deal, which immediately caught our attention. They also surprised us by including a bunch of lollipops in the bag. That small gesture was really appreciated, and the lollipops were actually really good. Most importantly, the sandwiches were amazing. You can tell they genuinely care about what they make. A lot of places treat veggie sandwiches as an afterthought with just basic vegetables, but Ike’s goes all out. The vegetarian sandwich with artichoke, pesto, and mushrooms was incredible. Overall, a great experience, and we’ll definitely be ordering again.

Had an AMAZING experience here today. I have celiac so we came here because I heard they do well with avoiding cross contamination. We were so pleased with the service, the staff, and the attention to detail when it came to my allergy. Aaron and Andrew made sure that we had a great experience and that my food was safe to eat. These guys deserve a raise. It was also DELICIOUS. I got the backstabber, highly recommended. I’m so glad we finally tried this place, we are so happy to know this spot is down the street from us. Will 1000% be back!

A group of us went here for lunch and had a mediocre experience. First of all, the layout of the shop is ridiculous, as there’s no clear path for a line. It’s an easy fix if they wanted to do so. My sandwich was delicious, and such was the response from others. Should be considering they’re so darn expensive $15/ea. Others did not have the same experience. One didn’t get much avocado, which can be a common experience. Mostly of note was a friend who asked for light mustard but got a heavy handed helping. She tried to scrape it off, but she couldn’t eat it. Though she didn’t want to say anything, she was encouraged by a friend to ask for them to make it right. They said she’d have to deal with it or throw away because they don’t remake sandwiches if there’s a mistake. What!!? I feel like I’m taking crazy pills! 😆 Most disgusting was the bathroom, 🤮 which wasn’t just dirty from a single use. It hadn’t been cleaned in a month, judging by the gross ring in the bowl. When this was brought to the manager’s attention, she said sorry, they didn’t have time to clean. I mentioned it looked like it hasn’t been cleaned in a long time, then she said they’d look into it when they had time. Considering they’re all about love, perhaps they should some of that back into the care of the space & (most importantly) the customers. We will not be back.

I wandered into Ike’s because I needed to get some lunch before an open house. The line was a little long and I was concerned about how long it would take to get my sandwich. Luckily for me they were quick to get the sandwiches made and, while I waited I enjoyed the busy and fun decor. I especially liked that they honor those who serve in our military as I come from a long family line of military veterans. I liked that everything was branded, from the sandwich wrappers, to the napkins and the bag the sandwich came in. An even more delightful surprise was the Carmel apple lollipop that came with the sandwich. A nice touch and pleasant surprise. I will definitely be back and I encourage you to check out Ike’s!

Well Ike, I have to tell you. I got love and a sandwich. Let me explain... I was leaving the local grocery store. It was a warm spring midday. The breeze was gently blowing over my bald head, and the sky was blue and empty like my tummy. I dropped my purchase in my "squirrel in a wheel" powered car and looked up and saw your sign. Ike's love and sandwiches. My tummy growled and rumbled. I knew what I had to do to calm it down. I walked to your little corner shop and stepped inside. First, let me say my eyes were met with a cacophony of color. My ears were tickled with the music of another time, and my nose... oh yes... was filled with fragrances of grilled meats from a thousand lands, fresh scent of breads from a mother's loving heart and hands. I knew i had come to the right place to sate the yearning of my grumpy tummy. I step to the counter. I was met by the cheeriest young gentleman. I looked up at the menu. There are so many choices!!! I was overwhelmed. The room began to spin, but young gentleman said: let me help you. I was grounded again. He began to describe choices of sandwiches and bread types, savory meats, and delicate cheeses. Also, fresh veggies and other flavorful toppings were mentioned. I couldn't choose it was all so... delicious and mesmerizing. And young gentleman said: let me suggest my favorite sandwich. Madison Bumgarner. A hot steak sandwich, with Ike's BBQ sauce, a light touch of habanero, pepper jack, American cheese and something called "dirty sauce" ( I didn't ask why?) It was a food award winning sandwich. I said: Yes! Yes, young gentleman, that one please with a side of chips and a soda. We laughed. I paid. A few moments later, my name was called, and my lovingly wrapped sandwich was handed over to me with a kind smile. I sat at a table and gently peeled back the wrap and revealed my warm Madison Bumgarner. It smelled so fresh and flavorful. After a grateful prayer of thanks, I raised the sandwich and took a bite. The flavor was amazing, so many layers of deliciousness... I lifted my eyes and met the eyes of Young Gentleman. He smiled and gently nodded at me and gave a thumbs up. I nodded back, and with a deep sigh of satisfaction, I bit into the soft warm bread of my Madison Bumgarner sandwich. It was amazing... LoL go the sandwiches are great there is something for everyone. And say hello to Young Gentleman.

First timer, I ordered the "Hunter Pence" online through app. Sandwich was ready on time, bread was warm, ingredients were fresh, customizations on point! Hands down one of the best sandwiches I've ever had, I am excited to try the other delicious options!

My first time ever trying this place out and i fell in love! I will definitely be coming back here again. The staff are cool and welcoming. The atmosphere is very hip and fun. I enjoy all the scenic walls while waiting for my food. My sandwiches were delicious and really satisfying. Great quality ingredients as well. Well worth the prices!

It's great food and service. Every time I have came in employees are friendly however today one is exceptional and his name is Andrew. He has great charisma spirit, awesome attitude customer service and a great smile. He is the type of employee that should always be upfront he gives great suggestions too. Im also finally going to try the ménage a trio sandwich and next time I try the one Andrew suggested" backstabber" he says it takes like a a chicken Caesar salad in a sandwich.

There's nothing better than stumbling into an option that is convenient and amazing. I could tell the minute that I walked in that I'd found my people. Bright colored 80s and 90s lunchboxes adorned the walls, and the tables are covered in Dalmatian print. The signs are so full of sandwich options that I'd have to say that if you can't find something to order here, you don't like food. The menu is littered with pop culture references and names that just make you smile. I went with the James and the Giant Peach on their famous crusty bread. The kids enjoyed the chicken strips meal (only $5? Nice!). Sandwiches are in the $14-16 range, and feature some old favorites and some seasonal options that are clearly rotated out. I love this because you can always come in and try something new. I'm also a fan of the self-deprecating humor on the walls, "Voted Best Sandwich in the World (by my Mom)." Hahaha, thanks Mom! They also have the option to make your sandwich into a combo for $4.50 and add chips and a drink. I opted for the zucchini coins instead because although they're fried there is a vegetable in there somewhere... right? The coins were kind of a miss for me. Kind of a bag of slop that didn't resemble any coin I'd ever seen. They were more like zucchini fries where the breading fell off. Skip those. Get more sandwiches. The guys working seemed to be having fun and enjoying being here. Very welcoming vibe. The bread here is seriously so good. Like if you had one last sandwich on this earth, this bread would be in the running for the bread you'd use. Great toppings and sauces take it to the next level. I'm already planning on another trip back this vacation to try another sandwich. All in all, a very solid lunch option.

Ike's is SO good. The sandwiches are BIG and full of flavor. The Dutch crunch bread is so good. They cost a pretty penny but are worth it. They have a large chip selection and unique drinks and treats. Cookies, brownie. I love this spot. I want to try every sandwich. Haha I don't usually tip counter service but the guy who helped me today was really nice and pleasant and deserved it.

I have ordered online for pick up. When I arrived at the store there were 3 employees doing another things but not my food! The ticket was there waiting.... Waiting what? If I didn't want to waist my time I would go to the store and order in person. I ordered online to arrive and pick up the food not wait it to be made

I've always received recommendations for this place and I finally tried it. Definitely worth the price with the quality and amount of food that they provide. The service was great, they made a lot of accommodations to my order (a plain turkey sandwich) due to me being overwhelmed at how many ways you can make the sandwich. I was honestly impressed! I went to the location in Hillcrest area, and I can definitely say that I will return to eat here again. I would recommend you try this place but take your time, the employees are very patient and knowledgeable of what they sell - do not be afraid to ask or alter your order.

First timers here today and it was incredible! The staff was very welcoming and helpful. They recommended an amazing sandwich that I didn't see on the menu. It was called the Tyrell Washington. Everything was fresh and delicious! I love their Dutch crunch bread :)

Service is always fast and friendly. The Dutch crunch is always soft and crisp in all the right places, if I could come here everyday I would. But I have a heard time digesting bread and sandwiches so its a treat from Time to time. My favorite is multiple meats so da vinci and the matt Cain. I get everything on it.

I had not had a great sandwich in a LONG time. We were visiting from out of town , had pups with us and were lazy just wanting to grab something to take back to our beach pad and Ike's had great reviews. I try and stay away from chain restaurants of any kind but this place was unique enough I made an exception. My husband got the Madison Bumgarner and I got the Tony Gwynn (Going Home For Thanksgiving) both on the Dutch Crunch. WOW. Sandwich heaven. I wish they had one in Tucson where we live now, as I think I would be a full blown regular.

The Ménage A Trois sandwich is one of Ike's signature sandwiches for a reason with chicken, honey mustard, BBQ sauce, pepper jack and swiss cheese on a dutch crunch roll is super good and very unique. This is my go-to order. The only thing that would make it better is that I wish they'd put more chicken in the sandwich. If you're looking for some good sandwiches this is the place to go!

Come here for a sandwich if you're hungry. They're so filling. There are also so many options that I suggest looking online as it could be overwhelming to decide. I always ask for a recommendation from whoever is working and never been disappointed. They're not fancy fresh, but they're still very tasty.

I usually don't write reviews but this spot was awesome. The service was great and everyone inside was so friendly! Andrew really helped my husband and I pick out a sandwich that fit our craving especially with their menu having so much variety! I ordered the "we're not friends" which was ironic because after one bite I think I fell in love. We definitely will be back (probably too soon)

Great service and amazing sandwiches! The gluten-free sub tasted like real yummy French bread ! My kids got the turkey and they gobbled it up. 10 out of 10 would come again

Wooow is all I can say!!! I had a taste for a sandwich and I got so much more. I had a turkey sandwich on sourdough () bread with Avocado, lettuce, tomato, and their special sauce. My husband had the ménage tois I hope I spelled it right, my oldest son had the Adam Richard. You can't go wrong with any of those. The atmosphere and customer service was top tier because we were indecisive and he answered all of our questions. This is a great place if you want to eat a good sandwich!!!!! Go here!!!! You will not be disappointed

Absolutely loved this place. I got the Hunter Pence sub and it's is one of the best warm sandwiches I ever had! Also for the veggie lovers, there are PLENTY of options!

Stop 10 on my quest to hit as many Ike's locations as possible in 2023 brought me to the Midway location of this legendary spot. Still feeling down after correctly sharing with Ike that despite my love of the Warriors it would be Lakers in 6 - decided to feast on some sandwiches with an Oakland theme We got a Beast Mode with jalapeño and it registered the Richter scale of the taste buds. I've noticed this sandwich is best consumed on site when the chicken is hotter than Mr Lynch on a live mic This location also had a Cespedes - something I'd never seen at any location of Ike's. This sandwich was much more memorable than the career of the former Oakland A's slugger. The pepper Jack gives it that extra Umph that knocked this meal out of the park. As always with Ike's the decor fit with neighborhood and the staff was friendly. It was really cool to watch what appeared to be a new staff hire learn he was joining the extremely friendly team. I was unsuccessful in getting an employee to trade me the Ike's shirt off his back but they made sure to make us feel welcome and took good care of two super supporters who had traveled south for the weekend. Thank you as always Ike's for an amazing feast

Customer service was a little lacking today and maybe it was because I came in right before closing to pick up an order. The order wasn't ready when I arrived and I felt as if maybe I had bothered the staff by coming in. The food is made fresh to order so that's always a plus much like your sandwich shops. The ambience is just a chill place to hang out and has plenty of seating. This sandwich shop is a San Diego favorite, but maybe just needs tweaking with their customer service so the customers feel appreciated when they support the business.

If you haven't had Ike's before, IT IS A MUST. Their selection is amazing and expansive. I have never found so many vegetarian/vegan options at an establishment that wasn't a dedicated vegetarian/vegan restaurant. Every time I go I get a different sandwich and I haven't been disappointed once. They also have way more option online that you can choose from. Plus, each location has their own signature sandwich! I can not hype this place enough. If you are on the fence, do yourself a favor and try them out.

Stumbled upon this sandwich shop after a nail appointment. I was overwhelmed with the menu, but the nice employee helped me decide. I ended up trying the Da Vinci which is basically an Italian sandwich. It was sooo good! I've also tried the chicken Caesar sandwich and it was good but not my favorite.

This is my go to sandwich place. They have a wide selection of sandwiches and they have plenty of vegetarian options. The dutch crunch bread is incredible and it's the only bread I will ever use for my sandwiches here. The workers are also very quick and very nice. My only complaint is that it's pretty expensive compared to other sandwich shops. I always wince when I see the total.

Best sandwich in SD county. Fresh, tasty, and perfect. Right up there with Antonelli's.

This guy s by far the best order guys, ask for the Wild Bill, Dutch, with cream cheese (might not have so have backup at home) , purple slaw, whatever veggies you like you're welcome shout out to Zi Jah at the Midway location for even knowing the secret menu order. Ike's Love & Sandwiches is by far my favorite spot if I'm risking it all for the carbs!

I LERVE these sandwiches! Omgersh. The Dutch Crunch bread is slightly sweet, which pairs excellently with any savory filling. I'm a big fan of the yellow bbq sauce! Every time I eat at Ike's, it leaves me with a smile on my face. These are crave-worthy sammies. Go get one!

I got the tony hawk, which was super tasty! And they have my favorite kind of chips there. Very nice people and really fun sandwich combos. Lots of stonery choices I'm looking forward to trying

If I could give zero stars, I would. I put in a delivery order via Uber Eats. The receipt states NO CHEESE and NO PEPPER JACK CHEESE. Seems pretty clear. Yet, they ignored it and put cheese on it. I asked for tomatoes and lettuce on the side. They did that AND had tomatoes and lettuce on the sandwich. They added the banana peppers, so they read the order, just ignored the relevant stuff. I never understand why someone would think you want dairy cheese when you order a vegan meatball sandwich. They did offer vegan cheese, but I declined, hence the no cheese for vegan on top of the NO pepper jack cheese. I was unaware that staff are incompetent. Thank you for not doing your job. The EL Segundo location rocks. Thus one? Dud.

We always see this place on our way to the movies and not once have we seen it empty. We decided to stop by and give it a try. Everyone was pretty friendly, attentive and helpful. They do have music playing in the background but it's not too loud. We opted for two sandwiches: Frankenstein and the turkey with red pesto. Both tasted pretty good and we were pleasantly surprised by the size of the sandwiches. We will definitely be stopping by to try other menu items.

I've loved this location for years! So many amazing vegan/vegetarian options that all taste delicious. I've had a few issues in the past with the Hillcrest location but never here, until today. I ordered a James in the Giant Peach, it's a vegan sandwich, pictured is what I found all inside of my sandwich. I'm not sure what kind of meat it was, possibly some kind of beef, pastrami, roast beef? I don't eat meat and haven't for 7 years now so I gotta admit it was kind of gross. I think there was a cross contamination issue, (slicing the meat sandwich with the same knife as the vegan sandwich, not cleaning stations, etc.) which could potentially be dangerous down the line for someone with a food allergy. Overall, staff is very friendly and the vibe is great in there. Just hope this issue gets resolved soon because I love this location!

I love Ike's sandwiches! My experience at this Ike's was no different. Love the sandwich names and I went with #9 name of the girl I'm dating. The Dutch crunch bread is an absolute must. The dirty sauce + the honey mustard and amazing halal chicken is a killer combo. Food came out quick and staff were friendly!

Sandwiches are definitely good here! Super tasty especially the hot ones. Huge selection so it's a bit overwhelming, but take your time to read the descriptions and listen to your stomach. Prices are a bit steep, but what isn't these days? Expect to fork out $15-20 for a sandwich, chips, and drink. All in all, good place for sandwiches

Ike's hits the spot every time I'm craving a good sandwich. Ordered #111 - the ménage a trois with halal chicken, honey mustard, dirty sauce, lettuce and more. It's sweet, tangy & all the good things. I'd definitely order this sandwich again in the future. Washed it all down with a lemonade. Staff was friendly & helpful. Inside was clean! Plenty of parking outside. Check this place out & support small business!

Awesome vegetarian selections. But the final product is a lot more bread than fillings, similar to Panera these days. And quite pricey for a sandwich shop. Expect to pay $15+ for a less than footlong sando. Dutch bread was interesting but pretty sweet and doughey. Would opt for something different next time. Caramel suckers were an unexpected surprise in the bag but we left them behind. Hope they didn't get thrown away. Easy parking in the strip mall location.

Ike's Love & Sandwiches is one of my favorite sandwich shops in San Diego, and ever! I always get the Tony Hawk on Dutch Crunch with all of the extra add on veggies (banana peppers and a few others I can't remember - I always just ask for all of the extras). I've heard every sandwich is good from friends and family who have tried others. I believe Ike's started in SF, and when I first got it and posted to my instagram story, my friend from SF was so surprised that they have in SD now! The location on Midway is cute with ample seating, but I always drive 10 minutes to eat it by the beach. It's truly one of the most delicious sandwiches and a must for me every time I'm in SD. Cannot recommend enough!

Pretty tasty sandwiches. I had the Paul Ruebens on whole wheat with a free bag of chips (with yelp check-in). The purple cabbage coleslaw in the sandwich added a good tanginess and crunch. Fresh, flavor packed and meat to veg ratio good. I'd love to come back and try some of their veggie sandwiches. The menu seemed to have a good variety. Nice use of the tin lunch boxes as border decoration for the wall. Some of them reminded me of my elementary school days from the 80's. Good job Ike. Definitely gonna show some more love the next time I'm in the area.

This is my favorite sandwich spot in SD ( San Diego ), customer service is excellent and they greet you as soon you walk in. The sandwich's are fresh & they give you a lollipop with your order ( that's a + ). They name their sandwiches after Tony Hawk, Matt Cain & much more. Ike's sandwiches make your mouth water when you bite into them & you can wash it down with some drinks You don't believe me, try it yourself !!!

The sandwiches were great. But the thing that made the sandwich is the bread it was so bomb and crunchy and soft. The service was great they answered every question that I had and gave me recommendations. The ambiance is super chill and laid back, really enjoy this place. And I just accidentally stumbled upon it and it was a great decision to eat there

I just discovered my new favorite sandwhich. It's on their (not so) secret menu. #167. The Smashmouth - bacon, cream cheese and provolone on dutch crunch. (I didn't add anything else). This sandwich is a little sweet, salty from the bacon, and 100% delicious. Seriously I'm not really a sandwich person but the sandwich ... it is sooooo tasty. We called ahead to place the order for pick up. It was ready within 15 minutes. The establishment is nothing to write home about, just a regular old sandwich place with great food.

Stopped by after being in the neighborhood and I was surprised to see the huge menu. Pretty creative but overall just impressed by the sheer volume of different sandwiches. I was interested in their vegan options so I went with that in a combo and it came with a nice little caramel apple lollipop. I think that for the money, I got my worth. Several other sandwich joints with the same price points haven't been to par with Ike's so I was happy with what I got. I didn't realize that Ike's is a chain shop but I'm glad it is because I want to try different sandwiches and I'm happy to know that I can try em at some of their other locations.

I've visited this location a few times over the last year and then realized I've never reviewed. Every meal I've had I've really liked and my normal go to was the Tony Soprano. Switched it up today and went with the Matt Cain on Dutch Crunch and really enjoyed it. What I like about Ike's is it is always clean and produce is always in good shape. It is a bit on the pricier side, but the food is very consistent and everyone working has always been very nice. I know what I'm going to get quality wise, so when I want to splurge on a sandwich I come here.

I came here first thing after flying in from Houston and in need of a quick bite. I did not expect much, but I was gladly surprised! I got the sandwich with the zesty orange sauce. SO GOOD! This place is pretty unassuming from the outside, however, the food here is incredible. Do yourself a favor and grab one anytime you're in need of a great quick bite in town.

Ike taught me the importance of sammie ingredient placement when it was that little shop in the mission district. Ike has been serving me some good eats for a minute. Now Ike is everywhere but didn't let success weaken the product. From the Dutch Crunch bread to the house made purple slaw this is not your cookie cutter deli. Ike has slaved over details and kept quality consistent. Ike is the opposite of honey badger... Wrapped up tight , nice and neat like a swaddled loved one you are presented with your order. Don't be an idiot and allow sloppy ass sandwiches be your norm. You owe it to yourself to be presentable... sandwich drippings all over self like a schmendrick. It is time to make better choices.. Try: Fried chicken, bacon, provolone, purple slaw with dirty sauce on Dutch crunch bread. This should help put you back on track.

Too many to choose from, all sounds so good though. But I got a 182, it pretty tasty. Not bad for my first time there! Friendly staffs, atmosphere is nice to eat at.
