Ikina Sushi - Review - Capitol Hill - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Ikina is a sushi spot in the thick of the Capitol Hill nightlife insanity - but it’s pretty relaxing inside. Sit at the counter in a room full of Japanese room dividers and tie-dyed tapestries. The sushi chefs will likely strike up a conversation with you, and the presentation will make you feel like you’re treating yourself." - Aimee Rizzo

Highly enjoyed this omakase. Tried their 13,000 JPY Omakase. The chef was very skilled and everything was timed so perfectly as we went through our meal. Everything was served in the right temperatures, and complexity of the dishes seemed to escalate at each step. Starting with palate openers, and delicious minimal dimension dishes and gaining in complexity as the omakase progressed. It was such a great experience. At the start it was easy to describe what we were tasting and experiencing but later at the end, it escalated to so much more complex flavor. It was kind of out of this world. Highly recommended. And it's actually good value. 👍

NOV 2024 Visited here with a reservation for the lunch omakase. The course started with two types of sashimi and a side of pickled vegetables, followed by sushi served one at a time. Steam egg custard and miso soup was also served and dessert was a single grape. The omakase was very fast pace, only took about 40 minutes, sushi taste decent but some pieces such as the lean and fatty tuna were both thinly sliced. The price was quite expensive compared to ordering a sushi set which has mostly the same toppings.

I came yesterday with my friends for omakase, we had some issue with the booking but the staff were so nice and helpful. The experience was great and the food was delicious. The chef Sekido was nice and friendly he explained what every dish was made of. The host Marlin was so nice and helpful she helped us with translation and made sure everything was going smoothly. Definitely will come back again 🤍

Bought the ¥12000 seasonal colors course omakase but it was quite overpriced. The quality was great overall but it wasn't the best fish you could get for being in Japan. I will say their most interesting dish they had this year was the whale nigiri. Who gets to say they've actually tried whale? The tempura and spanish mackerel were decent as well, and they served the freshest Uni I've ever tasted. Wish the place had an English menu but our server was able to get by fine and explained the dishes with limited English. Would come back for a more affordable option such as for the lunch omakase instead of dinner.

Found this counter style sushi spot for lunch and enjoyed one of the lunch specials. English limited but easy to order out of the various lunch plates. It was a lot of food and came out to about ~$15. Fatty tuna and albacore were my favorite from the plate.

Our experience was very disappointing. We were seated at a table instead of the bar counter. When we asked about it, the staff simply explained that the counter seats were reserved. They also mentioned that if we wanted counter seating, we should have specified it when making the reservation. However, the reservation website didn’t even indicate that table seating was an option—most people would assume omakase means counter seating by default. Additionally, no one asked if we had any food allergies or preferences before serving us. We weren’t informed about free-flow water or hot green tea until we explicitly asked. There was no explanation of the dishes being served, and since the menu was kept away, we had no idea what we were eating or the sequence of dishes. To top it off, the quality of the fish felt mediocre. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience, and I would not recommend it.

First full day in Japan. I heard about this luxurious sushi restaurant with an awesome lunch combo meal and made a reservation a few weeks in advance. Very nice experience and we paid less than 4000 yen for two people. Sushi wasn’t life changing but fun place to try when visiting!

Google
looking for a 10/10 sushi/nigiri experience and we weren’t disappointed. the service and attention w/o being too insistent are outstanding. the staff’s attention to detail is exceptional. the fish and shrimps are fresh and buttery soft and at room temperature (speaks of freshness), the rice is warm, the soups are great (courtesy soups we didn’t order!) the tap beer is ice cold, the sauces are perfect. we sat at the bar and the chefs slice and prepare your food with their hands in front of your eyes and then they thank you before presenting the plate in front of you. an amazing, flavorful and tender seafood experience in tokyo.
