I was at IKO a few days ago for happy hour and enjoyed it overall.
I liked the service was fast and friendly. That always helps.
I started with a glass of Albariño. I gotta say it was a nice glass, it was crisp and clean, just what you need in a late warm afternoon. I would come back for that Albariño for sure.
I sampled their tuna tartare and the spicy salmon and tuna rolls.
The tuna tartare had an Unami taste to it, probably coming from the kimchi or the soy sauce. I loved the fact it was not packed with other ingredients and you got to actually taste the tuna with the subtle salty taste at the end, and the sort of rice crackers they serve it with, they are so crunchy, just delicious.
What I really didn’t enjoy much were the rolls. They were overly spicy, and when I say overly is because they actually were. I have high tolerance for spicy food but this was a bit too much. The other flavors got overpowered by the spiciness. The rolls were also a bit messy, for a restaurant of this caliber, you would expect cleaner and more presentable rolls.
I got to see some of their poke bowls; they looked great. I would certainly come back to try those.
