Il Capriccio

"An unmissable stop for anyone looking to try the best restaurants in the Gargano, Il Capriccio overlooks the marina, with tables laid out on the jetty in summer. The delicious cuisine combines creative fish options with the traditional vegetable dishes which are so popular in Puglia. The rice, potato and mussel dish is highly recommended, while food - lovers might like to try the unusual menu based on recipes from bygone days." - Michelin Inspector

As a lover of Italian – and especially Mediterranean – cuisine, I simply couldn’t miss the chance to dine at this restaurant. I started with Paccheri with pecorino cheese, pepper, and truffle, followed by a main course of mixed fried seafood and vegetables with beetroot sauce, and ended with a dessert called Tribute to the Femminiello lemon of Gargano – all beautifully complemented by a glass of quality white wine. Everything works perfectly in this place – the food was excellent, and so was the service. The staff spoke English and gave us a great introduction to each dish. The setting was calm and pleasant, enhanced by soft background music. We visited outside the main tourist season, which added to the relaxed atmosphere. Next time I return to Vieste, I definitely won’t miss this place.

Not worth the hype. I’ve been to many restaurants and without a doubt this was the worst service I’ve ever experienced. From arrival to departure, you’d get better service just about anywhere, I only give 2 star for the food, which was nice, but didn’t live up to the price, hype or expectations. We’ve booked via The Fork (which they use) and on arrival I was told our reservation didn’t exist, and that they always have issues with The Fork - not my problem, don’t use it then? After much persistence we managed to get a table, but people in the same situation behind us didn’t, so dont use The Fork for booking if you must go, but honestly I highly recommend choosing another location to eat! The service was slow, inattentive and really careless. There’s slow and then there’s Il Capriccio. We’ve only managed to order after 45 min, and the wine arrived well after 1hour after we’ve been seated - whilst we saw the bucket just sitting on a waiter station for well over 20 min. Anything we needed, had to ask at least twice and were lucky if it ever arrived. Bread plates, 2 of our party never received them after several asks, from ashtray to wrong wine twice, I could go on and on. Our mains were served whilst we still had dirty plates from the starters, and we were expected to clear our own plates, I don’t mind if I’m paying €20 this was €300 dinner. There is one waiter for 60 covers, what on earth is the management of this restaurant thinking? That’s too much even for a cheap restaurant, let alone this. The food itself ranged from ok to great - but was it wonderful and warrant a return visit? Definitely not. We didn’t try the dessert as we couldn’t wait to get out of this restaurant. The setting though is beautiful right out into the marina, and it is really sad that it is wasted on this restaurant. The bill of course didn’t arrive, so we had to venture to the reception. Where a receptionist/manager acknowledged that the service was really bad herself and didn’t even say sorry. Tried blaming it on a the Fork, but darling, you don’t allocAte enough staff - what do you expect? It’s your fault, not the booking platform. I was incredibly disappointed with this experience, and the food sadly wasn’t enough to lift up the spirits and the experience. Avoid this restaurant, there are many more to choose from in the area and it can’t be worse than this, trust me .

Slightly disappointing… The amuse bouche were still frozen in the middle, the food was fine, although the meet was too dry. The desert was delicious and the staff very friendly and kind.

The location of this place is amazing. It is situated in the port of Vieste. This is one of the two restaurants with the Michelin Award (in my opinion not deserved at all) in Vieste. As for the food that was nothing special. We ordered appetizers and the main course. There was almost no fish in that. As for the dessert, it was kind of fruit yogurt with crunchy layers, tiramisu was not traditional ( I can understand because it's Michelin restaurant and there must food innovations), but it tasted like ice cream. The service is not on the level of Michelin. The only thing that is on the level of Michelin are the prices which are really exaggerated. The bottom line is that there a lot of restaurants in Vieste where you will eat delicious fish ( real fish not just a tiny piece of it) at affordable price.

This is a nice little cafe on the front, overlooking Vieste Harbour and it is ideal for spending an hour or so watching life, and the yachts, go by. The staff are friendly and helpful and we had very pleasant iced coffees here. I imagine that lunch and snacks would be to a similar standard. The toilets are well appointed and clean. This is an ideal spot for a break after one of the boat trips to sea the caves.

Yelp
Located right on the marina of Vieste, Il Capriccio offers a creative seafood menu at a reasonable price for a gourmet dining experience. The location is quite pretty with outdoors tables right next to the port and even extending on a small pier, losing only a few points for being perhaps too close to a parking lot. Service is good with a helpful and friendly front of house staff, which unfortunately also seems a little over extended over the many tables. The main attraction is the seafood menu, though a non-seafood alternative is also available. Dishes are well-made, but tend to somewhat vary in quality: in my dining experience, a somewhat unremarkable pasta dish was followed by the creative and wonderfully tasty fake stuffed mussel, which may well be the star of the menu; while a vegetarian diner was offered a three-course dinner of off-menu items, none of which was particularly memorable (though very well priced). Overall a good experience, worth a stop for those looking for a seafood dinner with a great view.
