Il Frantoio

We had the primo-bisteca-contorno and even though we don’t speak Italian well, it was okay to find the menu on the wall and guess based on our English/spanish/portuguese languages… my steak was better and more tender than my husband’s but that happens. It was a very crowded place and frequented by locals.

This was an authentic Italian restaurant that we stumble upon in Ostia Antica. It was very reasonably priced unlike the touristy ones we went to. It came with pasta appetizer with the main meal. The steak was huge and delicious. The seafood appetizer was fresh. It was made to order for this sit down restaurant. The staff was friendly and nice. The waitress tried to explain in English nicely.

Decided to avoid the expensive restaurants in the centre of Ostia Antica and give this place a go. It was a good choice as the food was very nice and the prices very good. The menu is better suited for adults, i.e. some options came with chillies which my kids couldn't eat, so that wasn't great (a waiter who knows the food on the menu could advise about spicy food when ordering for a child). Although the staff were friendly and polite, we often struggled to get their attention when we needed something as they kept walking past our table to go from the kitchen to serve other customers (it may be because we visited on a Saturday evening in August). The food was brought to our table, but then we weren't offered salt/pepper/olive olive/balsamic vinegar or other things that would accompany the food we were eating. In conclusion, tasty food but customer service could be improved.

I went on a Sunday with fam, busy restaurant cosy atmosphere. The food very good quality and well cooked. The young waitress nice and professional. The price super convenient never eat so good with little price. Recommended 100 percent.

Food is great and the prices even greater. The drink assortment was depressing if you're not in the mood for alcohol, if you also don't want water or cola you won't be able to get anything. They can't speak English, the only words they know in English are "no english" except 1 lovely ober. I feel like this restaurant is only for locals and not tourist despite the multiple English reviews due to how the owner gave us the most inconvenient place and kept giving is dirty looks despite us only asking him "can we sit outside, no? Okay where do we need to sit?" When ordering it could be coincidence it could be because we weren't locals but our food took the longest to prepare, ordered first or second and from 4 tables, more and less people than us we got our food as last. The only menu they have is a huge chalkwood wall written in Italien with 2 tables infront of it, if you're placed there congratulations to the famous life because you will get photos taken if you every minute. Despite it feeling like racism due to the ugly looks, inconvenient placing and never being asked how the food was or talking with us (which was happening to other tables I assume due to laughing and talking) because we talked English and not fluent Italian. The food was incredible and the reviews did not lie about that. Otherwise it would've been 1 star.

Truly one of the worst restaurant experiences I’ve ever had. It’s one thing for restaurants to not want to serve tourists (any reasonable person can understand why, it must be tiring) but this was just awful. The plates were thrown down on the table and we were ignored and disregarded by the waiters who seemed angry. I want to be clear that we understand that service is different in Italy than where we are from but in the years my family have lived here they have never been treated like this. My family are fluent in Italian so there wasn’t an issue of language barrier, they were just so rude we didn’t even finish our lunch and just got out as quickly as we could, with a bad taste in our mouths. We went for lunch, 45 minutes before closing so if they didn’t want to serve us, I wish they had just turned us away, it was a terrible feeling to be treated like that. I am sure this is a much nicer experience for locals, but if you are not a local I would stay away.

Lovely food, food portions was huge! Staff very friendly and its get very busy. Highly recommended 👌

There was a free table on the terrace, but we were told not to go there because there were only two of us!!! Allegedly a table for 3-5 people. Because of this I give one star! What difference does it make how many people! If the table is free
