The 20 Best Restaurants On The Amalfi Coast - Amalfi Coast - The Infatuation

"Il Grottino Azzurro will make you feel at home, if home were a quirky fisher’s cave from a children’s book. At this all-blue restaurant, located on the higher streets away from Positano’s chaotic center, menus are affixed onto chopping boards that hang on the wall, and glass bottles and coffee cups dangle from the ceiling. Lunch and dinner spotlights your typical Campania dishes, like a soft parmigiana di melanzane or creamy gnocchi alla Sorrentina. This spot is a great option for meals away from the beach or on rainy days." - federica bocco

Google
We came across this restaurant just because we were walking by, but it was a great discovery! The meatballs were delicious as well as the gnocchi. The seasoning and breading on the calamari was top notch! The only thing I wouldn't recommend is the espresso, as it tasted old.

Google
We ate here two nights in a row. The prosciutto and burrata plate was excellent. I had fried shrimp and calamari and my wife had pasta with regular sauce both nights. I had the grilled octopus salad on potato puree the second night. It was outstanding. The service was impeccable.

Google
Was recommended this restaurant by our accommodation in Positano. It was definitely worth the 400 steps to get to it! It was delicious! Super tasty and when coupled with local wines, it was truly a meal to remember. Highly recommend!

Google
The food was great and we come back for the second times. But the second times they are forgot about our orders. And we was wait for 50 mins to find out that they forgot about the food. But the food is good.

Google
Clean, tidy and nice atmosphere but the food is rather disappointing. We had two fish dishes and one pasta dish with fish . One of the fish dishes was over cooked the other undercooked. The pasta dish with the fish barely had any fish. We paid way too much for the quality and quantity… best you go somewhere else

Google
The dine-in experience was pleasant, we tried Sicilian pasta (which was good, but not a special dish one must try here). Their Ravioli Caprese was delicious, especially the cherry tomatoes that come with it added to the flavours. For appetizers, their wild sea bass fish tartara is something one should not miss, the fish was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The hosts were very kind. On the whole, it was a wonderful experience.

Google
We had dinner at this restaurant and it was brilliant. To our surprise, this seems to be the only restaurant open in Positano after 6.30pm on a Sunday which was indeed surprising. The staff were great and allowed us to stay seated inside till they opened for service exactly at 6.30. I had meatballs as a starter which was amazing and we also shared a huge mussels bowl. For mains we had meat lasagna and gnocchi which was great. Overall it cost €50 per person but is well worth it. Highly recommended!

Google
I booked Grottino Azzurro after reading several reviews and recommendations and was so glad I did, the food was super tasty and fresh and quite generous servings. The team were friendly and very attentive, we decided to hike up the stairs from Positano town and whilst it was a little challenging by the time we reached the top we got some great pics along the way and was grateful for the view! I would definitely recommend eating at Grottino Azzurro when visiting Positano and for sure get the ham and melon!

Yelp
Located very close to ourAirBNB, we walked up here. Very friendly service and manager. We sat outside with a great view. Had a very local vibe and neighborhood vibe to it. Food was super delicious. Realize that Campari to me is a bit bitter. Panna Cotta was unbelievable. Manager shared a cantaloupe shot with us at the end of the night. Very fun experience, very nice to live like a local here!

Yelp
We were in Positano in March, which means there's not very many places open. We arrived late and the staff was very kind. Lovely ambiance and the food was delicious. We left full.

Yelp
Hands down amazing in all respects. This place isn't on the she she strip of Positano. This makes it quite reasonably priced. The food was INSANELY GOOD. The grilled octopus was to die for. The Fritto Misto was also amazing. Get the tuna tare tare, so fresh and amazing. Every single thing we ordered was phenomenal.

Yelp
This restaurant is quite a ways away from the main town of Positano. Not only is it far, but it is at the top of the cliff (at least it feels that way). There is a bus stop right in front if you choose public transport instead. Now the food. The food is good. Really good! I had the meatballs, or should I say meatball, since it was just one ball. It was big and delicious. The sauce was also fantastic. I had the tastiest pork shoulder but there was a bug in it. This doesn't bother me that much. I grew up in the Philippines and have eaten so many bugs, it's ridiculous. But I know it's generally a sign of poor kitchen hygiene. So try at your own risk. I didn't get sick. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Yelp
What a gem of a find in positano. This happened to be right next to our hotel. We got a last minute reservation and they were so friendly and attentive. The vibe is relaxed and outside they have a nice hilltop view of positano. But most of all the ravioli was FRESH and fairly priced! I wish I could have eaten here again!

Yelp
Pasta was undercooked. Harder than Al dente. over salted for my palate as previous reviews had stated. Great flavor profile. We asked politely and they took it back to the kitchen. Came back still undercooked but warmer than initially. Uncertain if they just warmed it but definitely not Al dente. Vino bianco is good, but glass was dirty. If you sit outside get ready to breathe in the exhaust of all the mopeds, cars and buses

Yelp
The most amazing and tasty restaurant in Positano! My family started with the fried shrimp and calamari for an appetizer and it was beyond amazing. For our second course we got the pasta bolognese, pasta with shrimp and zucchini, and seafood pasta! The seafood pasta was the best I've ever had and would absolutely recommend. If I come back to Positano, I I'll absolutely be coming back to Grottino's!!

Yelp
Based on some of the reviews, we were worried about how the food may be but OMG everything we tried was amazing!! We had eggplant Parmesan, gnocchi sorrento style and meat sauce dish. There were complaints about too much salt and me being pregnant, I was concerned. I asked the chef if he could limit the salt, and he said he would for us. Not only was the food amazing, the service was outstanding as well. We had Luigi and he made sure we were taken care of. For being the one restaurant open for dinner, they sure do take care of their guests.

Yelp
My sons wedding party came to this restaurant with no reservation and 19 guests. The owner said he could accommodate as long as we were in and out in an hour. They were amazing! Served us quickly and even gave my son a piece of cake for his birthday. Everything was amazing!!! Thank you for making his birthday special!!

MInerva M.

Yelp
My absolute favorite restaurant so far in Positano. Tiny place with the most flavorful pastas. I cannot wait to come back. Service was great too!

Yelp
Fantastic ravioli caprese, and the mousse was amazing. Worth visiting. Also the aperol spritz was strong and refreshing. They know their restaurants in Positano.

Yelp
Sooo good - the food was delicious, service was amazing and the view is to die for. I'm vegetarian and ordered: Fiori di zuccini- like a mixture of croquette and tempura zucchini with a creamy filling on top of a salad. This was incredible and had every texture you would ever want in a food. They also provided an extra zucchini starter which was stuffed with a creamy filling cherry tomato and a zucchini purée (guesses but it was good) Eggplant parmigiana- thin layer of eggplant and not too heavy which I loved. A simple dish but everything tastes high quality and the cheese was really good cooked crispy on the edges which is my favorite part Panna Cotta- this tasted like a creamy tangy fruity silky cylinder. Just get it's subtle but complex. Friend ordered tiramisu but she liked mine better. Highly recommend, not as expensive as other restaurants in Positano but has that high quality, classy dining without the price tag

Cos M.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic and gracious host Claudio. Highly recommend this restaurant. Cosimo

Yelp
The meal we had this past week at Grottino Azzuro was our best in Positano. The restaurant is located quite high up above the beach area, so if you are staying near the beach you may consider taking the Positano Bus. Service is excellent. They will explain their menu, which is posted, on the wall. The restaurant offers a limited menu with all of the dishes freshly prepared for that day. It is always good to avoid restaurants with multipage menus in 16 languages. At Grottino Azzuro we had a number of different pasta and meat dishes, all were perfectly prepared and served very hot. The deserts were also some of the best we had in Italy. Overall a perfect meal with excellent service. Consider stopping by the Bar International for a before or after dinner drink. It is right next door to Grottino Azzuro. It is clearly a traditional locals bar. Enjoy.

Yelp
Food, service, atmosphere were excellent! Best we've had so far on our Euro trip! And it turned out to be the least expensive, which surprised us. We ordered the pacchero w/ seafood, gnocchi sorrentine, pasta w/ squid, and the fried prawns and calamari. Everything was high quality and delicious. We loved the fried prawns and calamari and the creamy sauce with the gnocchi sorrentine. We finished off with tiramisu for dessert which was terrific and disappeared very quickly :-) Thank you Il Grottino Azzurro!

Andrew H.

Yelp
By far the best food we ate during our stay in Positano. Pasta is cooked to perfection (we had bolognese, gnocchi, and ravioli - all delightful). Excellent wine selection, bread was delicious, and tiramisu was divine. Check it out!

Stuart T.

Yelp
Delicious seafood in a convenient location. Higher prices but food is high quality. Great for date night or dinner with friends.

Yelp
We happened upon this one by chance. The bus dropped us off in front of it and thought we might need some energy before making the trek down the hill. We ordered the Margherita pizza (5£) and it was DELICIOUS!! Super thin crust and amazing flavour. Also really fast! We made our way up here again at night and it was packed with locals. A little ways away from the tourist spots, it was definitely the best price and the owner and son were pleasant and helped us find our hotel!

Yelp
Service is incredibly slow, the slowest I've encountered in Italy so far. I know they are supposed to take their time but this was just ridiculous. The food tasted fresh and homemade. But it was nothing to write home about and certainly not worth the waiting. Ordered the octopus and potato salad, the arancini which was bland and the seafood risotto which contained tiny shrimp (not like the photo from 2014 in one of the reviews which is one of the reasons why we ended up going here). If you're in the area it's fine but keep expectations realistic and don't go if you're really hungry because you might be waiting for awhile even after ordering.

Yelp
If I could give 10 stars, I would. We ate in this quaint, unassuming restaurant twice. Every dish we ordered- from the pasta e fagiole to the tagliata, which is seasoned steak, to the salsiccia e broccoli to the ravioli was culinary poetry. The staff was warm and inviting. They even tolerated my 4th grade Italian! Also the chocolate soufflé was meraviglioso and the wine list more than adequate.
google avatar

Kit L.

Yelp
Food was average and not as much of a selection as one would hope. Maybe it's cause we are here off season. All the diners were American, except for some of the owner's friends that sat at the bar. They gave us a fried egg plant app for free. My husband liked it. The best thing we had was the mussel soup, fresh mussels. Pasta was authentic and fresh, but average. Wine was good and everything reasonably priced. They have good business because they offer a free shuttle to their restaurant in the off season from any hotel that's open, and there are only 3 restaurants open in the whole town. For that, they charge a 2 EUR cover charge per person in their bill LOL. Average beginning to end on the food, but definitely convenient transportation to and from.

Yelp
You can A. embark on a 30+ minute trek to get to this restaurant on the top of a town that was built onto the hillside (either via foot or bus) B. Look at Google maps and attempt to awkwardly trespass into residential areas to cut your walk down to ~15 minutes You can probably guess which my friend I opted for. The food wasn't Drake-Best-I-Ever-Had (we got the seafood pasta and gnocchi), but for under 20 EUR in pricey Positano, SOLD! The toilet was made for giants. There is no toilet seat cover (oh Italy), and it was too high for my 5'4" frame, hell, it was a little too high for my 5'11" friend, but hey, it's a FREE and CLEAN restroom in Italy, SOLD! Service: 5 star. Our waitress didn't speak a lot of English, but was warm and inviting. She seemed more concerned than we were that we were going to miss the last bus back home (the bus stop was right next to the restaurant, 10 stars for that.) Notes: Quiet, away from the main tourist area (or so I'd like to think), gorgeous view overlooking the cliff

Yelp
We stopped at lL Grottino because our apartment was right next door and we were very pleased. The service was great!! And the mussels were delicious. The chocolate dessert was the perfect ending! Thank you:).

Yelp
Amazing ! Just Amazing . Local restaurant for locals. I am Italian and I was shocked at some restaurants in Positano serving chicken Parmesan ‍

Erika K.

Yelp
Fantastic dinner. Recommended to us by a local while walking through the streets. We came to positano in the off season and a lot of places were shut down until March. This restaurant was amazing. Started with meatballs as an appetizer. Chef brought out a complimentary fried eggplant ball with marinara. For meals we got the filet (too much pasta over the last few days even though we were tempted. Surrounding tables pasta dishes looked great) Filet of beef was cooked to perfection. We had an almond parfait and panna cotta with berries for dessert. Also fantastic. Highly recommend. They will pick you up and drop you off at your hotel if you call ahead of time. Great perk . Make sure to try them out!
google avatar

Lee O.

Yelp
The service was excellent..they attended us like we were the critics... only unknown to them. Most fabulous meal, ever! Thank you very much! Maria and Mariana were incredibly attentive in kind to us and service was beyond excellent! Many thanks for Rafael to pick us up!! Grazie!!!
google avatar

Rachel O.

Yelp
Came here on my first night in Positano with my friend and we LOVED IT. They didn't have tables available but allowed us to wait at the bar until one opened up. I can't eat Gluten and they had gluten free pasta which was amazing and I could have it made in any sauce I wanted! Also the brought out gluten free bread which I wasn't expecting but was so thankful for! (And no extra charge!) Needless to say I would definitely come here again. The service was amazing and he food was even better. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Agnes W.

Yelp
Very decent Italian place. Everything is fresh. The owner even said the fish was just brought in that morning and my mom had the last one. There are daily specials along with their menu. Everything was good; no complaints!
google avatar

Douglas H.

Yelp
Best restaurant experience we had during our week in Positano. The food was fresh and inventive and very tasty, and our waiter was both friendly and professional. The pork special was delicious, and the lava cake for dessert was top notch. Small, intimate space. The corner is quite busy but we enjoyed the outdoor seating. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Roman K.

Yelp
Excellent food. Great service. Location is outside of the main tourist area, so these guys have to work harder to stay in business, and they definitely do. Try octopus salad, best we had in Italy. Great tasting canolis for desert. Home made lemonade was great, and so the house red wine.
google avatar

Emmanuel G.

Yelp
By the main bus stop at the top of the hill, sit outside and enjoy both good food and the stunning view of the surrounding hill. Seafood is pretty much the thing of the coast, so get the seafood pastas or mains. We had a seafood linguini and risotto respectively - both well portioned and full of fresh sea goodness. For the antipasti we had a octopus, squid and shrimp salad both tantalizing and a good option to mix with the heavy mains. For the two pastas, one anitpasti, two soft drinks and water, we spent €54.

Sophia F.

Yelp
Favorite restaurant in Positano. We came here twice during our three day stay in Positano because we loved it so much! The menu changes weekly and the food is made fresh daily. The staff was amazing and very helpful at explaining the menu. They provide you with a free appetizer and even provided us a free glass of Prosecco when we had to wait an extra minute for our table. Highly recommend the meatball appetizer
google avatar

Justin G.

Yelp
Happened to just walk by on our way back up from the beach. BEST prosciutto and bocconcini I've ever had. Hands down. The Zuppa di cozze was phenomenal. Great wine list. Portions were sized perfectly and service was very friendly and timely. When you come to Italy you have to expect things to slow down a bit, it's just the culture. Highly recommend and would absolutely return.

Cathy N.

Yelp
10/10. Food was delicious, not a tourist-trap restaurant, and service was excellent. We came here after a long hike looking for food and was seated immediately and had our food brought out to us in less than 15 mins.
google avatar

Efi L.

Yelp
Very good food. I got the grilled chicken breast and my husband got the grilled sausage. The chicken was thinly cut, moist, and delicious. The sausage was just as good. We also got a mixed salad and a side of French fries. Very fresh. After lunch we weren't sure if we wanted dessert. We decided to pass and the waiter came over with a piece of lemon cake and a scoop of vanilla gelato. It... was... so... delicious! The cake was moist and still warm. Definitely recommend this place.
google avatar

Rick L.

Yelp
Very friendly and the food is delicious. Fair price and good portions. The owner even sent over some warm home made Lemmon cake with ice cream comp. such nice people you just have to take the buss up from the center of town to eat here. Lots of locals eating lunch; so you know it's a good deal. Highly recommended. If you're looking for a taste of America get the French fries.

May W.

Yelp
Perfecto all the way. We started with the eggplant parmigiana, followed with the ravioli special of the day, frittura mista and white fish with vegetables. Ended the meal with scrumptious panna cotta and a small glass of limoncello. Angelo and Marcelo were the perfect hosts! What a great recommendation!

Tara B.

Yelp
This place is a gem! Right around the corner from our hotel and we had no idea it was here. Delicious food, small atmosphere. We did not have a reservation so asked if we could sit at the bar and I'm so glad we did. I can't say enough about the food! Drinks were also delicious. Homemade Limoncello spritzer was the perfect ending to a perfect dinner. One of the best meals we had in Positano!!
google avatar

Caroline E.

Yelp
This place was pretty cool, off the beaten path. The food is good and relatively inexpensive. It is up on the hill so if you want to eat down by the water, it isn't good for that.

Yelp
This restaurant was one of my favorite meals of my entire trip. On my trip in Italy, whenever I sat down to eat I would sometimes struggle to know whether or not I was experiencing something authentic or touristic. Without reservations, every good place is already booked up and I find myself ending up somewhere where I hear more English than Italian, has atmosphere catered to middle aged tourists, and eating food that doesn't live up to the hype you hear from friends. That is not the case at Grottino Azzurro. We were in Positano in the off season and it was one of the few places open, and we didn't need a reservation. Marcello, who I think is the owner, welcomed us and told us about the menu. It is located up on the main road, and every local person that drove by stopped to say hello to Marcello or their other Italian local friends who were hanging out in front of the restaurant. The menu was a small hand written, daily fresh menu, which I learned from my travels in France is always a good sign that you are getting market fresh food. The ingredients in each dish were high quality, fresh, and delicious and we even ordered another bottle of wine after our meal just to stay and take in the atmosphere, the view, and watch the local friends hang out on the road drinking beer. This was the food I had heard so much about in Italy that you supposedly find everywhere but I had struggled to find, and the whole meal was more elaborate and less expensive than what I had gotten used to! Already planning to go back again.

Yelp
Got a recommendation on the bus ride up to the B&B for this place. Sat outside next to the bus and moped traffic(sit inside if you can). Had the fried fish, expected grouper/sea bass chunks, got who knows(shrimp, calamari, sardines, flounder type) what but the food was ok. Average meal. Decent price.

Sharol K.

Yelp
Great find! Clean, fresh, simple pure Italian food. Wonderful staff. Have eaten there twice thia week. They have only been open a few months & have perfected their craft

Stephanie C.

Yelp
The restaurant is off the beaten path but that's what makes this restaurant so lovely. It has an amazing view of the city and is in a quieter neighbourhood so you can escape the hustle and bustle. The food is good and much cheaper than other restaurants in the main city center. We got the gnocchi and the clam linguini - both were very good. We came here a second night and got the same thing + a pizza. The pizza was okay - the dough was a little thick to my liking but the cheese and tomato sauce was very fresh and tasty. Definitely recommend!

Candy B.

Yelp
This is on the top of the hill by the bus stop. Does a great pizza take out business. Restaurant food is good and reasonably priced for this area. Mainly locals with a few tourists who are renting in the surrounding area. Right on the main road through the Amalfi coast so it can be a bit noisy with traffic.
