The 12 Best Restaurants In Avon & Edwards, Colorado - Vail - The Infatuation

"Across the street from Craftsman is its sister restaurant, Il Mago. But instead of burgers and IPAs, you’ll get some really excellent pizzas, Italian wines, and Fernet on tap here. While that last detail will either bring you existential dread or extreme happiness, everybody will love these sourdough pies with a perfectly chewy and crispy crust: go for The Supernaut that’s made with crushed tomato, scamorza, pepperoni, garlic, and Calabrian chili. They also have some daily oyster specials and great snacks like garlic knots with pecorino and chili-garlic butter that you should order while you wait for more carbs." - kim fuller

Firstly, their house red wine is a Chianti. SOLD! Ordered the Caesar salad (delightful and perfectly topped with breadcrumbs) and a solidddd Margherita pizza (reminded me of Italy!!). Loved it so much we ordered another round of everything plus some meatballs. 10/10 will be back again. Solid happy hour too!!!

Google
From deco to delivery, this new restaurant gave us a dinner to remember! This pizza was deliciosa! I had a white sauce pizze with goat cheese and the girls had a meat pizza with red sauce. Both were excellent! Add to it the hot honey for the wood fired crust and say yes please to being satisfied. Oh and don’t forget to begin the meal with the garlic knots….hull yeah Il Mago. Hull yeah!!

Google
Absolutely amazing, should I say that again, don't walk, run to eat here. I cannot wait to go back to Edwards next year and eat all things Il Mago, fresh, exquisite and a place that made me so happy. We had the butternut and gorgonzola stuffed agnolotti with brown butter and sage and the flavor profile was delicate and distinct. We also had the fig, prosciutto and arugula pizza which was done perfectly. We used the crust to dip in the extra brown butter sauce. Just so perfect. A super gem in a small town..way to go Il Mago 😘

Google
The pizza was tasty but a bit sweeter than expected. We came in for the pasta and tried both options—one was not to our liking, excessive usage of butter, but the second one was spicy yet very enjoyable. The atmosphere is very cozy, though they might need a bit more staff for the number of customers. The pizzas are fresh, and perhaps they could offer a few more pasta options. The restaurant’s design is nice, but the waiting area for getting a table is not very comfortable.

Google
Second time dining here and it was even better than the first. The garlic knots to start - out of this world IMO. I am awaiting on my entree… Sunday special = chicken parm. I cannot wait. Will be back for an entree review. Thank you Il Mago for being here. ❤️

Google
il Mago made for an amazing dinner! The atmosphere was fresh and unique but also embodied what one would expect from a modern Italian spot. The service was excellent...attentive throughout the meal without being invasive. I was pleased to see they offered vegan cheese. Drinks were stellar as well. Highly recommend.

Google
We were standing at the front for 10 minutes. The waiters never even try to look at us or make eye contact. Not to mention we were here first and people that came after got a table first. Their food is good sometimes. Never get the chicken parm it’s to salty, over all the service is horrible! Train your waiters or get a hostess!

Google
Nice happy hour menu ($10 for margarita pizza), pizza was good but a bit burn. Would go back for the happy hour. Garlic knots are very good although expensive for bread. Great service.

Yelp
amazing food and service in vibrant atmosphere. all ingredients expertly sourced and prepared. margherita pizza superb, bartender matt just terrific- knows menu inside out and really helped us craft the perfect dinner. place is a well- oiled machine- dishes arrive at table moments after being cooked.

Yelp
I would describe this place as "mountain Italian". There are 3 pastas on the menu, a few kinds of pizza and then small plates. It feels a bit more upscale now (as opposed to when Craftsman was here) but still has the Craftsman beers on tap and upbeat rock music playing overhead (at a reasonable volume level). The staff were also all very friendly and attentive. All the pizzas have thin crust, so they come out quickly. The Supernaut pizza is a crowd favorite. It has just the right amount of spice added by the jalapeños and pepperoni. The ravioli had a much different flavor profile with a lot of sweet mixed with the savory. Kind of tasted like an apple pie. Then the arugula salad was a great appetizer. It's dressed pretty heavily but the ranch is light so it works out. I liked the mix of different crunchy items they threw in with the arugula.

Yelp
Ambience is casual and cool. Service was excellent. We enjoyed a glass of wine which was reasonably priced. The pasta and pizza were both very tasty and we shared the caesar salad which was the best one I have had!

Yelp
This is our second trip since discovering "the magician". One of the best pizza places in the valley. The warm piada bread is amazing. The Ceasar salads are huge and divine! Two people can easily split one!The pizzas we ordered were the Margherita and the war pigs! Both were fantastic. The happy hour is until 6 and they have deals. Not sure why this place is not packed out but we walked right in on a Friday night.

Yelp
The Craftsman crew strikes again. This is in the old Craftsman space and the layout is essentially the same. The decorations and such are different but it will look very familiar. I had the oysters (pink moons) and they were great. The sourdough garlic knots were the fanciest knots I've ever had and the olives were great. We ordered the supernaut pizza (scormoza is smoked mozzarella). The pizzas are all 12" so if you are really hungry, get your own. The pizza was good. Cooked perfectly and had a nice heat to it. We'll definitely be coming back to try the other pizzas and entrees.

Yelp
Amazing wood fired pizza with legit ingredients Best in Vail Valley/ no question Gwen the server was excellent and remembered me

Paul G.

Yelp
Went on a Monday night and the restaurant was slow. Service was attentive and friendly. Cocktails and house Pilsner were delicious. Caesar salad was one of our favorites ever. Pizza was delicious. Pepperoni was probably the favorite.

Yelp
Had a great dinner at this new restaurant. Cool ambiance with interesting lighting. Sat outside. Stools were a bit uncomfortable but not a big deal. Ordered the burrata & the garlic knots to start. The burrata is served with marinated roasted tomatoes and was good but could have used a sweet balsamic drizzle to add another level of flavor. DO NOT MISS the garlic knots!! They are pillowy puffs of perfection sprinkled with parm & drizzled with a chili oil. So freaking good!! We shared a pizza with prosciutto, fig jam & arugula which was really good! Too full for dessert but they had a few choices or you could always go right next door to Sundae for great ice cream. Can't wait to go back next summer when we visit the area again.

Yelp
Best pizza in the valley! Cocktails are amazing! And service is great! The pasta is always thoughtful and fresh.

Yelp
We just got home from our first time at Il Mago and I am completely compelled to write a review. Il Mago, magician or wizard in Italian is aptly named. I am severely allergic to gluten and their GF crust pizza is truly a result of magic and wizardry. It was OUTSTANDING and did not feel one bit like the sad, cardboard, consolation prize that are ALL gf pizzas. Every single item my family ate was off the charts: the Ceasar salad (mine without bread crumbs) the meatballs over polenta, the garlic knots and the regular crust pizzas - phenomenal. What a valuable addition to the Vail Valley. We will be back very soon! PS one minor critique - how about offering Non Alcoholic beer for the designated driver?

Yelp
What a fantastic new addition to the Avon / Edwards scene! They did a very smart redesign of the old Craftsman space including some great lighting fixtures, green accents, and plants which makes the place really inviting. But then the pizza... It is exceptionally delicious pizza. Beautifully cooked thin crust pizza with perfectly seasoned toppings. I did a margherita with their homemade Italian sausage and jalapeño which was outstanding. My husband got the special -- a white pizza with corn, bacon and green onion which was also excellent. All four of our party were raving. Great service. This place is top.

Yelp
Waited over 1 hour for our group and were never seated. Major attitude from hostess and manager, not accommodating and dismissive. Take your business elsewhere in the valley.

Yelp
Loved our meal here and will be returning! Thanks to Matt and crew for taking such great care of us while bellied up to the bar.

Tradd N.

Yelp
Always a pleasure. Service by Maria was excellent as usual. Our pizza was perfect. Cesar salad was waaaaaay overdressed and tasted off.

Yelp
Worst service in town. Put our name in and we're quoted 30-60 min wait. Waited over 1 hour for and were never seated. They don't have a phone number to give any updates. When we arrived 60 minutes after originally putting our name in, they quoted us another 60 minutes, but said they would close before them. Major attitude from hostess and manager, not accommodating and dismissive. Wasted our entire night. Take your business elsewhere in the valley.

Michael Z.

Yelp
Pizza great as was the pasta. People very friendly. We were in town five days went twice

Lori T.

Yelp
Pasta serving was very small and not warm. Pizza served without prosciutto being cooked properly and lacking flavor. Marginal wine list. Cute place but not with it due to food quality.

Yelp
Wow, this place next levels pizza and everything else. Highly recommend the steak tartare toast. It was killer.

Bella D.

Yelp
Came here on a sunday night around 6:30pm. We were seated promptly and our server, Regan, was wonderful! Super attentive and kind. We ordered the Elliot's jam pizza, Super knot pizza, the veal meatballs and the rigatoni pasta. Everything was AMAZING! Will for sure be going again. As local who lives in Edwards it's so nice to find places nearby

Yelp
Don't waste your time. We were quoted 45 minutes to an hour to be seated. Our party happily walked across the street for a few drinks and returned an hour and 15 minutes later (after trying to find a phone number to even get in touch with the restaurant - they don't have one, by the way) only to find out that they don't have a table for us and that they likely wouldn't, as they were closing early. After a nasty experience with the host throwing out excuse after excuse, rather than trying to solve the problem, we asked to speak to the manager. After explaining the situation and our frustration that our night was now ruined (as most places in Edwards close at this time and we were a party of 9) the manager just smiled and nodded, not at all sorry for the experience we had (as if it was comical). After asking him what we expect him to do, we told him it would be great if he could give us a few pizzas to go, now that we wouldn't be able to find a place to eat. He smiled and swiftly said "have a great night" and then proceeded to walk away. Best of luck to this restaurant. We will never be returning and neither will any of our local friends. What a disappointment.

Yelp
The best Neapolitan style Pizza in the state of Colorado. Staff is very friendly and Helpful. This is a must try place if you like pizza.

Jennifer H.

Yelp
Greatest gluten free pizza I have EVER HAD. I had the Blizzard pizza and it was spectacular - I even ordered a small side of marinara to eat with the left over crust. Seriously, if you're gf put this place on your list!

GT M.

Yelp
just a wonderful restaurant with a terrific crew. quality is top notch. attention to detail everywhere. try everything. it's all good. lmao, i don't normally give such good reviews but there was nothing not to like here.

Karen M.

Yelp
Wanted to try something new. Every time we come to beaver creek we always go to the same restaurants. What a surprise the food was incredible. We did a light pasta freshly made perfect sauce. We also did their pepperoni pizza with a hot honey sauce. Oh my. It's already on our list to go back this week. Excellent food.
