"Boasting a sumptuous Art Deco setting that contrasts pleasingly with the traditional cuisine served here, this restaurant is the Milanese sibling of Il Marchese in Rome which pays tribute to the famous Italian film “Il Marchese del Grillo” starring Alberto Sordi (it is also the first bar in Europe to offer more than 600 “amaro” liqueurs). The culinary philosophy here is based on traditional Roman cuisine with a contemporary flavour, including delicious specialities such as pasta with carbonara, matriciana and gricia sauces, veal saltimbocca, pork belly and much more besides!" - Michelin Inspector

"Convivial and informal with a touch of elegance, this restaurant is perfect for a night out with friends – and indeed for anyone in the mood for delicious cuisine brimming with flavours which are predominantly Roman in style. The carbonara and amatriciana are superb, while the antipasti (especially the croquettes and artichoke in season) should not be missed. An impressive selection of cocktails completes the picture. Booking is recommended, as it’s often full!" - Michelin Inspector

Amazing Roman dishes executed to perfection. Good service and plenty of GF options. The gricia is super and the amatriciana even more special. Baccalà stupendous and very delicate. Cicoria well seasoned. Attentive service and Amex is accepted here.

Good food and good atmosphere. Went there due to AmEX dining abroad credit. Carbonara & amatriciana were tasty and good portions. Starters of vitello tonnato and cod croquette also flavourful. Tiramisu super nice and fresh. Slightly annoyed with 7 eur charge for table cover when everyone else around got offered bread and we didn't. I am fine with paying table cover provided the service matches the charge. The response from the lady on the reservation/ welcome desk wasn't good as well. She should definitely be more friendly and less aggressive.

Exquisite place. Best carbonara and other pastas. Our group asked about amaros, the manager and staff quickly manufactured a plan for an amaro tasting later that night. It was incredible. I would go back to rome and would not miss this spot. Frankly, I would stay somewhere nearby again just to enjoy this place🤌

A True Roman Gem – Where Tradition Meets Elevated Dining We were referred to IL MARCHESE by a charming little bar across from the Forum called Angelina, who told us it was the most authentic Roman dining experience in the city. They weren’t wrong. From the moment we arrived, our evening was perfectly curated by our incredible waiter, Fabrizio. This wasn’t the typical “let me tell you what you should have” approach. Instead, Fabrizio engaged us in a genuine conversation about what we were in the mood for, then effortlessly crafted a five-course journey — each dish paired with the perfect cocktail or wine. His recommendations struck the ideal balance between tradition and creativity, delivering an epic gastronomic experience from start to finish. The atmosphere at IL MARCHESE is inspired by the film Il Marchese del Grillo, blending the soul of a classic Roman tavern — warm, simple, and true to its roots — with the elegance of a noble’s salon and a cocktail bar that could hold its own anywhere in the world. Every detail, from the ingredient quality to the presentation, reflects a love for both authenticity and refinement. In a funny twist, another couple from our cruise (who had ended up just 150 feet away from us earlier that day) was seated right next to us. They had also been referred — by a completely different local tour guide! Clearly, the locals know this is the place to go. If you see a one-star review, take it with a grain of salt — some people simply don’t understand how to savor a meal like this. IL MARCHESE isn’t just dinner; it’s an experience. And if you’re lucky enough to have Fabrizio guiding you, prepare for one of the most memorable meals of your life for a very reasonable price! Get ready to indulge in what the Italian is called Scarpitta meaning to mop up , trust me!!

Certainly! Here's a polished and more professional version of your review: This was the worst dining experience I have ever had. Our group of four visited for dinner, but the food was disappointing—served cold and arriving late for two members of our party. The poor quality and service forced us to cancel our orders and leave the restaurant. I will definitely not return and cannot recommend this place to anyone. Would you like it to sound more formal, casual, or with any specific tone?

A total disappointment! We ordered two pastas and the rabbit, and unfortunately, all three dishes were extremely salty to the point of being unpleasant. We were hungry, so we ate what we could, but it was far from enjoyable. The service was average at best—we even had to ask for plates, which felt odd for a restaurant of this level. Overall, it felt like a waste, and I honestly don’t understand how this place is in the Michelin guide.

Its so annoying how solo travelers are treated in Rome - Entire restaurant was empty but the hostess made me sit on the bar for dinner so im giving 4 stars bec i am paying money just like the others and i should be able to sit where I want. Thankfully, the food was amazing and the bartenders were very attentive. Damiano was the sweetest and provided good recommendations.

I just stopped in to try a few Amaro and Tumi and Matteo were so welcoming and knowledgeable as bartenders. The amaro was amazing! Highly recommend, but if the rest of the staff is as good as Tumi and Matteo than Il Marchese has the best service in Rome.
