This is a lovely place for dinner. If you're looking for intimate fine dining and top-notch Italian cuisine, then look no further. I asked for a seafood risotto, which wasn't on the menu, and I was beyond satisfied. I stopped in for lunch and fell in love. Now the menu is a little pricey, but it's worth every penny. It's probably one of the best meals I have ever had. I'd avoid this place for happy hr as their business clientele can be a little loud and obnoxious or ask to sit in the back. And I would not miss out on desert as it is an extremely authentic experience. I look forward to dining here again. I warn new foodies about coming here & do not heed their bad reviews. This place is an acquired taste and meant for a refined customer who doesn't mind spending money. Lastly, if you're coming here for restaurant week, it should be for their whole menu.

This is traditional, highest quality Italian cooking with an original flair. I had the special of the evening...black and white spaghetti with scallops of a surpassing sweetness. The dish was finished in a skillet at the table, and looked as lovely as it tasted. Service is splendid. All four of us were delighted with our meals and our wines. The décor is similarly traditional, with the stylish addition of elegant museum-sized photographs of celebrities. Thoroughly enjoyable.

We all had an amazing meal at IL Postino last night. The service was out of this world as even the owner came by our table to walk us through the menu and make recommendations. Everything from the appetizers to the mains and desserts were all excellent! If you're looking for a higher-end Italian meal, this is one of the spots to visit in NYC.

Google
Excellent restaurant. We have been here a few times in the last couple months and haven't had a disappointing dish. The salads are fresh, appetizers on point, great branzino, perfect steak, good lamb chops, good veal, good chicken parmiagana, good pasta (we always add truffle), impressive wine list and amazing desserts. Elegant atmosphere and exceptional service. Highly recommend.

The best Italian restaurant in the city, Luigi is the best, best appetizers good ambiance, and amazing servers that will make you feel special. They have a New year’s celebration that will astound and delight! Always a good time here

Went here for restaurant week but was not too impressed with the food. As soon as we walked in it felt like they were annoyed we were ordering from the restaurant week menu (as opposed to the full menu). It got worse when we decided to order a glass of wine as opposed to a bottle of wine. Nonetheless, the food was good. The fish was very tender and not over cooked. Red snapper was not very flavorful however the salmon was very delicious. The best dish was the calamari and salmon ravioli- very flavorful. The calamari was fresh and sauce was not too acidic or salty - just right. The ravioli was cooked perfectly and the pink sauce was delicious. What was out of this world were the desserts- all three were very delicious and fresh. I was disappointed they ran out of tiramisu however the other desserts were amazing. Don't think I'll return but good dishes available.

Date. 05nov22 Time. 12pm Awesome vibe inside. Went there for business and my wife and I sat in the back by a fireplace. Staff was extremely nice and we got to see the owner who was very kind. We had spinach and cheese ravioli which was amazing. We then had dessert, cannoli was great, cheesecake was light and airy, pistachio gelato was delicious. Price was notably high, but well worth it.

Google
Came here for the Summer Restaurant Week menu. We ordered grilled risotto and grilled calamari for appetizers, then seafood black ink pasta for the main, and cheesecake and tiramisu for desserts (not from the RW menu). Loved the risotto dish the most. Felt the pasta could have used lightly more seasoning, and the tiramisu was okay - a bit dense to my liking. Good deal for the RW portion, food was okay.

Yelp
The aroma hits you when you walk into the dining room. Your mouth drools in anticipation. The waiter describes the Angelotti with fresh shaved White Truffles. The dish is delectable! Little soft pillows of heaven in a surprisingly light cream sauce. The truffles taste as great as they smell. Life if glorious! Until the check comes... $220.00 (TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY DOLLARS) for this plate of food. Enjoy! Beware and be careful!

Yelp
Charged us double for our dinner till we pointed it out to them. Gave us another tables bill , they claimed.

Yelp
Great food and wonderful service in the best atmosphere you can wish for .. Everyone made us feel so welcome from the moment we walked in . Great experience..!

Yelp
Interesting food and ambience. Expensive, but it's in Midtown East. It's named after the movie Il Postino. It is classy and good for a business dinner or an occasion. We had a nice waiter from Norway. It's traditional in style. I would have to go back again to order more. An Italian display table adds to the decor and posters of the movie and Hollywood stars.

Yelp
We went here last night for dinner with some friends that are like family. They're all Italians, except Lorenzo and I and they told us it's the best Italian food in NYC. I would disagree I think it's the best Italian food in America! Some of the best ravioli I've ever had, their truffle sauce is what dreams are made of! To top it off the service was even better. The waiter is friendly and knowledgeable, the chef comes by to make sure we liked our food. It was just a fantastic experience all the way around. It was one of those meals that made you realize just how good a dining experience can be and should be. Oh and the dessert! Wow! It's so incredible! We ordered the dessert sampler and it fed 7 people and we had some we had left because we couldn't finish it. The cheesecake melts in your mouth. Also the wine selection is wonderful and the waiters make sure your glass is never empty. This place is magical, the decor is spectacular and the way you're treated is like you're royalty. If you're in NYC this place is a MUST!

Yelp
We had an incredible and delicious meal at il Postinio last week. The service was five star; the food was five star; and the entire experience was absolutely stupendous. The irony is the place where we had a reservation that night -- Sistina -- turned out to be run and owned by a horrible, nasty human being -- we ended up walking out with the owner cursing us as we left. Class all the way eh? As we were celebrating a birthday, we really wanted to find a great place and despite the fact that we called last minute and Il Postino was near full, the owner/manager of this restaurant did all she could to rescue the evening. Also, the food was excellent, plentiful and well priced. I'd give this restaurant six stars if I could.

Nola N.

Yelp
The best fine dining service in all of NYC. Entire staff made you feel welcome from beginning to end. Gorgeous room. Total celebratory experience, but could be just as lovely for a solo meal.

Mononita G.

Yelp
Loved the ambiance. Had higher expectations for the food especially at the prices they were charging. My parpadelle looked and tasted like my mother in laws homemade thick and misshapen noodles. Not good!! The rest of the food was meh, although my husband's linguine dish was on point. Service was excellent except for the poor Swiss junior waiter who most likely has been fired since we dined there. I feel like there are much better Italian places in NYC. Probably why they ask for a credit card number when you make a reservation.

Yelp
Wonderful ambience with professional wait staff. Food was excellent. We ordered food that wasn't on the menu and they were very accommodating.

Yelp
Had the pleasure of being invited to dine with a frequent at Ilpostino. We were treated like royalty. The restaurant is small but well laid out. The chef/owner came to the table. Greater is with open arms. Great wine list. We shared a 1999 bottle of Soldera. Would strongly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys a intimate Italian night out. My hats off to Ilpostino and it's staff.

Yelp
Stopped in yesterday afternoon for a drink at the bar since we were in the neighborhood, and had the nicest time. Beautifully elegant restaurant, friendliest waitstaff, and our lovely bartender Erica and host Renato could not of been more welcoming.

Benjamin P.

Yelp
Phenomenal food. Beautiful ambiance. Romantic. Great service. Pricey, but worth it. Don't come here looking to save money. Come looking to eat authentic and delicious Italian.

Jim H.

Yelp
This is an absolutely gorgeous spot on the Upper East side...back room has no windows or outdoor light so could be day or night, but very pretty room... Service is bordering on "Old World", but does require vigilance...prices are high and the food is inconsistent..the soup was delicious ($16 for small bowl) but the calamari looked like cold rubber bands tossed in a red cabbage leaf... the bread was OK, kind of stingy with the olive oil & no butter was offered. The main course was OK, if you liked under-cooked, tasteless vegetables with your entree, but it was a relaxing respite on a busy day...

Yelp
Amazing ravioli- I am not a ravioli person but for my birthday my friends recommended me try. I never had this good creamy tasty delicate mouth-melting ravioli ever. A+. Pretty tasty tiramisu. A! The reason I put 4 stars is that 1. A server dropped a dish on our chair and the ravioli and its sauce got in and on my daughter's moncler jacket (while they immediately clean) 2. I am a vongole bianco spaghetti person and I cook myself and eat everywhere. It was not good as the best vongole spaghetti with flavor. It was not bad but not the best for the price . Beautifully served, though. Overall, it will not go wrong at this restaurant. It is a fancy restaurant.

Yelp
I love this place. The food is so consistently delicious and the menu is varied with interesting options. Save room for dessert and set a spell - The service and hospitality are old world class - top notch! I highly recommend adding this neighborhood spot to your list!

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. Everything I've eaten there has been so delicious my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Not inexpensive but 100% worth every penny. Highly recommend!

Yelp
100%!!!! The Lotte New York Palace recommended IL Pastino for real homemade delicious Italian food. The staff was beyond great and friendly. They were very accommodating and stayed open late too!!! The bartender was so sweet and the manager was so kind!! We felt like family by time we left!! I totally recommend this beautiful restaurant!! Its gets a 10 for the delicious food!!!

Yelp
"I recently dined at il postino and had an exceptional experience. The pasta was perfectly cooked, the flavors were authentic, and the service was outstanding. I highly recommend trying their restaurant- we are from Beverly Hills and this is on top of the list

Alma H.

Yelp
This was a lovely restaurant with good food expensively priced. It remains so with over-the-top priced starters and entrees. Owner does not prepare you for surprise noise level due to parties of fifty or more in bar area that extend to the other two levels. This is cochlear implant needed noise. Shame on the restaurant for not alerting a now former client about this at the time reservation was made. We left and went to a more hospitable restaurant in the area.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious and feel so lucky to have randomly found while walking and hungry. This spot doesn't show up on Yelp when searching for restaurants so we walked by it at first and went back because we were curious about the menu. The interior is really chic and we were warmly greeted despite not having a reservation. The place was full and lively and we were seated on the top floor by the bar. Service was impeccable and the food was delicious. We had a fresh pasta dish and the branzino fish that was cooked is salt and very fresh. What a treat!

Yelp
This is one of the most traditional old-school Italian restaurants if you don't like what's on the menu they will make you whatever you want. The food is always fresh and the wines are amazing. The salted Bronzino fantastic the ravioli with truffles spectacular even their grappa is amazing. .

Yelp
I think what set's Il Postino apart from other similar establishments is the service. There was no question that not only had our waiter worked there for years and knew the menu like the back of his hand, but he was overly accommodating in substitutions and off menu items. Our dinner started with some lovely prosciutto and burrata, and my dinner was followed by some epic seafood stew. This spot is a little off the beaten path and totally worth it for the experience. Ask to get a table in the back if you want to talk as it can get a bit crowded by the bar.

William R.

Yelp
Just had my second meal here in 4 months. It is superb. A lovely atmosphere, impeccable service, great food. A very extensive menu, multiple evening specials, but they will make you ANYTHING you ask for, within reason. A Large loud family group was seated next to us. The hostess repeatedly offered to move us, but we were fine. Very thoughtful. Eat here!

Yelp
we have been here nearly for nearly every year from the early Covid year in 2020 after our third grandson was born and further pandemic dined Al fresco .. for the past two years have been repeat customers in late august . the service atmosphere and food are not just fabulous but happily anticipated. highly recommend both locations Bach and dinner

Yelp
The atmosphere, service and food were excellent. The back dining room was beautiful and the menu had many choices. A really wonderful evening!

Yelp
Wonderful classy Italian restaurant great for dinner with friends, family or a date. Service. Bartender, hostess and servers were extremely friendly and attentive from the time we arrived to the time we left. Ambiance. White linen tablecloths, black chair covers and small fresh flowers on the tables contributed to a comfortably formal and classy atmosphere. The table where we were seated couldn't have been more perfect, set apart from the rest, private feeling, and overlooking the tables on the first level of the dining room. Food. We had dinner here restaurant week, and everything was great. - bread with oil - mussels in a light broth - fantastic - burrata- very good - veal- tender, excellent - seafood with green and white pasta- the pasta was cooked perfectly, and the sauce was delicious. - tiramisu- - chocolate cake- delicious Definitely recommend for a great italian dining experience with outstanding service.

Yelp
I used to go to Il Postino on East 49th Street. They moved to the current location on East 61st Street in 2021. We had such good culinary memories Pre-Pandemic. As is happening with so many places Post Pandemic, this restaurant lost its glamour and quality of service, including the food. Rushed to no end, the waiter even telling us that they have a very large party to attend to, and therefore we could order now or later after the party was taken care of. Now really. After being seated we waited about 20 minutes before somebody decided to come and visit us. We placed our orders. Mine arrived after about 30 minutes, my wife's 10 minutes later. We were told an assortment of vegetables, each one of us had one baby carrot and one piece of such soggy broccoli. All for the price of $ 64 each. All that waiting, all that unappetizing food, especially my wife's Bronzino. It was shocking to witness how the fish was fileted. It was done in such a hurry, small and large chunks with larger chunks of tomatoes, not the Cherry tomatoes as the waiter had so gloriously told us about. Remarkable was also that, while we were waiting for our food, a waiter came to our table with somebody else' food. That happened twice. The parade of waiters and busboys visiting us was even more stunning. The arrival of the bill was the fastest marathon we have ever witnessed. We no longer recommend this diminished establishment.

Douglas H.

Yelp
Service was horrendous. it was crowded and we were put at a cramped table. I was bumped into at least 10 times. I complained and received little acknowledgement from wait staff. Finallly asked for a manager, who apologized and physically moved our table (embarrassing mid-meal) and apologized. offered to comp dessert but did not follow through. F- Will not go back.

Sarah M.

Yelp
We live in the neighborhood and come here often. What really sets this place apart is the customer service and the fact that they will make virtually any Italian dish you ask for, even if it is not on the menu. Do you feel like a particular pasta and sauce, such as linguine with clam sauce or ravioli and pesto? If you ask your waiter, there is a very good chance that they can make it! This is not a trendy restaurant that everyone knows about, so it tends to be mostly locals. Come join in and be pleasantly surprised!

Yelp
Wonderful Place Great service Fun owner Multicultural Great food Wonderful atmosphere My family and I plan On becoming regulars Thank you so much for a great night; REGINA AND PILAR

Yelp
Good news! Il Postino is not closed. It has a brand new location on 61st street. Luigi is still there and same delicious authentic Italian food! Wait til you see the new decor! It's fantastic.

Erin P.

Yelp
Great traditional Italian food, family style service and atmosphere. Was my first time I will be back!

Cora C.

Yelp
Posting is a classic Italian dishes, cook as perfection, and the chef is almost every day there, that's make it very important, it's family business, his wife get you to the tables.it's a really nice atmosphere, and elegant place, more casual at the bar, food is excellent. Wine list also is very good. Pastas, and crudos are really good and fish, like Dover sole. As a complementary they put you a white beans and squid it's delicious, and zucchini fried. Bathroom in the same level. Dining room it's beautiful. Love this place.

Yelp
Il Postino hostess was REALLY rude/insulting. We sat at our table at 6.15, (next to a deafening table of +/-20 people all literally yelling over each other). At 7.27pm, the hostess came up to us and said "you need to move along, I need your table." After spending over $200 for dinner for three, in a deafening restaurant, we are told in approximately one hour, time to leave. And BTW, the menu was rather odd; the waiter said "we don't put much down on the menu, just tell us what you want, and we can make it." We each asked for things (that actually were on the menu) and none of the three were available. Over a five min period when we were just sitting down, he came up to us 4 times asking to take our order.

Jay A.

Yelp
This restaurant is special. If you're reading this and are deciding whether to go here - take this as your sign to give it a go. The staff is top notch. Ambiance excellent. Deep wine pours. Food phenomenal.

Andrew S.

Yelp
For food and atmosphere, my rating is 5 stars, we were a party of 4 and we all enjoyed our food. Service was 3 stars, the host and managers were friendly but the waiters could use some additional training. We had 2 waiters, 1 of whom constantly tried to sell us things we didn't want. There's an art to selling in this manner to not annoy the customer. Our other waiter had the menu memorized which was impressive but lacked people friendly skills. I would go back but not for a few months with the hope of having different servers.

Varsha V.

Yelp
This was a dreadful experience. The servers pushed the "Ravioli with truffle shaving". We had walked in their at 5.30 ish no reservation and they seated us quickly. We just wanted to have a drink and perhaps an appetizer. They pushed the Ravioli never telling us that 6 pieces of Ravioli would cost 240$ Ridiculous scam a total setup. Do not fall for this terrible unethical restaurant.

Jillian D.

Yelp
Of the many UES Italian restaurants of higher quality, this one stands out. The chef's spot-on preparations, the variety of the menu, the warm inviting staff, the stunning location: all combine to make it my new favorite. I've now eaten here over five times so this review is based on many different experiences, all of which have been impressive. This is not an annoying, pretentious restaurant, but generous in its hospitality and thankfully not of such a decibel (like Il Mulino) that you have to scream through dinner. The wait staff is attentive without being unctuous. The chef actually cares, and often visits the tables to introduce himself. You can go decadent (osso bucco) or healthy (branzino) or anywhere inbetween. The main room in the townhouse has amazing ambiance. I can't recommend it enough! Thank you Luigi for providing joy every time we visit!
google avatar

Celicious A.

Yelp
The entire frontside of the restaurant opens out to the street in the summer and it makes you feel like you are in Europe. It wasn't too crowded for lunch and quite a few older Italian-American regulars were dining there. 3 stars only because I thought the food could be better but I went for restaurant week...so should try it again another time! Grilled calamari was great, pesto tagliolini was slightly overcooked, tiramisu was ok.

Yelp
I was craving Italian food and quickly found this place on google. I tried to eat here around 7:30 on a Saturday evening but I had to leave before I could order as the waiters were instantly pushy and that really irritated me. I was asked 3 TIMES by 3 different employees If I wanted wine in which I answered no 3 times. This restaurant was pretty empty so the persistence seemed intentional. At that point I couldn't help but feel like these people were trying to extort me. In just the first 10 mins there I had been approached 5 times by 3 different waiters asking me if I was ready. I could not get a moment to myself to actually get through this menu. I felt so uncomfortable that I had to get up and leave. This place was empty on a Saturday evening, I should have took that as a sign. I will not bother coming here again. NYC has way too many options.

Yelp
I remember from 49th street, there was always a problem with the bill and instead of adjusting it, they said "we will take care of you next time"! I figured to try again on 61st. Firstly, we ordered a bottle of wine, they neglected to tell us the year we picked, wasn't the one we received! Secondly, the pasta and veal dish were not on par with a typical bistro! sauces were heavy and thick and pasta was small and mediocre to be nice. They we asked for the bill took more than 25minutes to arrive! Told the waiter I was a regular at 49 th st for a while and would like to speak to the owner. Luigi was too busy! he will always be second rate, perfect for the client that lacks sophistication! Nothing has changed, shame on me for going back, however I was a guest!

Leon H.

Yelp
I'm a regular at scalinatella. So i was excited to try il Postino in their new location. I couldn't have been more disappointed. We ordered a few drinks. A few salads, mushroom special, a crudo and a white truffle pasta and a dessert. When the salads came. I tilt the bowl and use my knife and scoop it into my plate. I cut a piece of cheese. And i realize It's a paper towel not cheese!!!! So i call the waiter over. And i say. Listen. I never ever ever complain But look. He's like oh my. I say. Am i wrong for saying something? He's like no. Oh my. So he comes back. And he's like. Oh. We made you a new one (like he did me a favor) and he's like what happened was, There was a napkin between the plate and the bowl. And you lifted it and it fell in your plate. I said. Ummmm NOOOO. That's not what happened. There was a paper towel in my salad and all you had to say was I'm sorry. Not blame it on me. So i get the "the customer is always right" response. Which i take as "go F yourself." So the mediocre meal continues. And when the check comes. They come back and say. Oh. What did you drink again? We forgot to add it to the check. So they had an opportunity to comp me one drink each . But no. The check comes again and every single cent is accounted for on it. Not one thing comped. Not an apology. Basically it was my fault it happened and i should be grateful they remade the salad that i didn't even want to touch. I am absolutely mortified. I will never go back

Yelp
Eight of us decided to go to II Postino for Restaurant Week for lunch and treat my Intern who was on her last day. We picked from their Prix Fixe menu, and I had; Salmone Marinato, with orange sauce Veal Scaloppine, eggplant, zucchini, and onions in a light tomato sauce Semifreddo It's a medium size restaurant with separated sections at different elevations from each other which with the decor did bring some classy elegance to the place. The sound travels here, so it's was hard to hear your own conversation because the ones at the next table interfere and I recommend not to speak of anything personal because they will know two tables down. The service was slow and not attentive, we didn't get checked on or get our water refilled for a long period of time but were charge for sparkling water when they gave us tap on refills. The Salmone Marinato was above average with the nice touch of the lemons that had little netted covers so the seeds don't come out. The Veal Scaloppine was average. And the Semifreddo was average in taste but below average on presentation because it was just a piece cut from a slab with some drizzle on top. The food did arrive in full groups so the kitchen must have a good staff. The Tiramisu Il Postino that the others had did get a lot of mmms, and yums from the table. Also the others had the Fettuccini, veal ragu pizzaiola which had too many olives but was above average still in taste when you removed them. They auto added a 21% gratuity to the bill at the end. Most likely I will not be back since I have already I been to one where the food was better 2 blocks away and I still have a half dozen other Italian restaurants within walking distances I need to try out.

Yelp
We came for restaurant week: Appetizers: - Veal : my friend who texted it jut kept saying,"this is really good" over and over. - Eggplant parm: also well portioned with eggplant to cheese ratio! Solidly flavorful - Lentil soup: we found plastic in the soup. The waiter was very nice and replaced it quickly but still... you lose a star on yelp for that Mains - Pappardelle: this was good, and I'm not usually a big fan of mushroom but it was in good portions and not overwhelming. The pasta itself was perfect!!!! Seriously!! All the main courses were fantastic! Desserts: - everything is great... EXCEPT the ice cream, which was weirdly grainy and disappointing.
