I’ve only written 3 reviews in Rapallo. For those reading this, PLEASE go to the good ones and NOT the single bad one. DON’T make the same mistake I did.
Il Salotto is the best food I’ve had on this coast. Ingredients are fresh (even presented to you prior to cooking). They show off their seafood because they can and they should. It is that fresh and well taken care of. We’ve been here twice (lunch and dinner) because the “town’s best restaurant” was closed. Both times we’ve been here have been the food to talk about for years.
Lunch - Calamari, gnocchi and Spagliato. Calamari is grilled to perfection with balance of acid, salt, heat. It literally tastes like I grabbed this out of the ocean and grilled it. Got a lime from who knows where and made this perfection. They try hard by not trying hard at all and showcasing the ingredient for what it is. Drinks are well done. I don’t think this place is overpriced at all and should in-fact charge MORE for the quality and service.
Dinner - Half cooked, half raw catch of the day with chanterelle mushrooms and their Michelin recommended dessert crumble cake with cherry. Who thinks of serving raw and grilled (over charcoal) fish in one bite? The texture, smell, and flavor sent me out of this world. Have have HAVE this dish. Dessert is also godly with textures, temperatures, and flavors that DANCE on your tongue.
I am scared because next time I visit this area, this place will be too popular to easily visit.
