Il Sereno Al Lago Restaurant

Had a half day tour around Lake Como and our hotel concierge had us booked at Il Sereno's restaurant to end the night. What an impeccable experience! I think the biggest standout was the service at the bar and the restaurant. I wish I had gotten the person's name but there was one server who was beyond friendly naturally, like a friend hosting dinner at their home. He had the biggest smile during our service and helped recommend the peach tarte for dessert.

Every visit to Il Sereno Al Lago feels like coming home to a very special place. The view over Lake Como is pure magic, but what truly makes it unforgettable is the atmosphere — elegant yet relaxed, where you can feel the passion behind every detail. The team greets you with genuine warmth, the service is flawless without ever feeling formal, and the food… simply outstanding. Each dish is a work of art, both in flavor and presentation. A place I will always return to, with a full heart and a happy palate.

we came for both lunch and dinner and fabulous meals both times, with excellent service. strongly reccomend the scallop appetizer at lunch and the traditional tasting menu for dinner.

The atmosphere, cuisine and especially the service were all magnificent! The staff are trained well and very kind. We had drinks also at the bar before and from beginning with the valet parking to the end was a wonderful experience.

I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant. From the food to the service, the entire experience was impeccable. The property is also stunning. We came for dinner and then lunch the next day. Already dreaming of coming back next year. I scrolled down to read some of the bad reviews and many of them seem to be out of pure snobbery. While I think there are tiny hints of truth to some of them, this place does not deserve a bad review by any means.

The ambiance and service is absolutely excellent. The employees were definitely very caring and kind. However, the taste of the food was pretty standard. Even our plates were not served very hot. However, the plate presentations were quite elegant. It was a pleasant experience by the lake, but not a restaurant we would choose to eat again. Again, we would like to thank everyone🙏🏾

The service was impeccable. Our waiter Christian wasn’t only very professional but also very personable. The wine menu was amazing and the cocktails I had were also great. We did the first tasting menu and everything was good but not great. Very interesting dishes that just didn’t deliver. Overall we had a fabulous night because of the service and atmosphere.

We were staying at the hotel (which we can’t recommend enough btw, truly incredible) and decided to eat at the restaurant one evening. The position of the restaurant is under the hotel with lovely arches which give great views of the lake. Unfortunately that’s the best thing about the experience. We sat and waited, then given some water and waited. We asked for a drinks menu but it took ages to come (we had a glass of wine 35 minutes after sitting down), they tried taking our food order before we had even ordered a drink, which we found a bit odd. We ordered the vegetarian tasting menu which sounded good. The courses came out and we were given a nice explanation about what each dish was. Unfortunately the food was just very average, with the exception of the tomato desert (which would have been a great starter) and the selection of deserts. We found the spaghetti too salty, and then shocked that the dish after was just a spoon of the same salty sauce. In total we had bread at 3 different points of the night throughout the menu. The staff, while polite, did not make anything particularly special about the evening, no real engagement. The tables looked the same as what you have during breakfast, perhaps it would be nicer to add a table cloth over them for the evening. Would not recommend and have no idea how this got a Michelin star.

Michelin star meal. Delicious and creative. The bread was amazing and the risotto was so good. Service is amazing and scallops was cooked so well.

Amazing creative delicious dishes among mid century modern vibes. Service is best in class. Expensive, but the value is there.

The restaurant is a real treat to have right downstairs for those staying in-house at Il Sereno -- but is a very worthwhile destination for not only the dining experience but to see the amazing property, magnificent location, and the beautiful restaurant space overlooking Lake Como. Dinner is the main attraction, the menu is modern and fitting of the rest of the property's atmosphere -- definitely leaning more towards the degustation/gastronomy type of fine dining, so diners should come expecting that. Although, I was just as much (if not most) delighted by the bread service which were noticeably out of the oven just before arriving at the table every time. The menu has 3 formats -- split by 2 that are different tasting formats, followed by 1 page that is a la-carte for however many courses you would like. Having tried all 3 menus in as many evenings, there was a good amount of variety, with a high degree of creativity and innovation throughout -- and very filling. The beverage program is impressive as well, with a beautiful cellar on full display -- although I took the recommendations for a glass of wine to pair with dinner, which was terrific each time. The staff + service was a clear standout, consistent and wonderful. The staff is noticeably young, very warm and upbeat and inviting. While I wish I got everyone's names, ALESSANDRO, MARY, and ROBERTO were always amazing and wonderful, they truly knew how to provide for a great experience and always went above and beyond.

Our final meal of our vacation was at Berton al Lago, which is within the Il Sereno hotel. Although there were a few narrow roads to get to the hotel entrance, the car parking is handled by the valet, and you enjoy a wonderfully expansive view of Lake Como as you walk towards the restaurant. Once inside, we were given the option of enjoying a drink at the bar upstairs or have a beverage out on the terrace, but we opted to head downstairs and start our meal. The space is very modern yet homey, with a modernized wine cellar fitting in with the stone arches that provide you with partial views of the lake from the outer portions of the dining room. With a clientele that skewed towards English/American diners, it was no surprise that the staff was quite competent in speaking English, and we had no issues with our food or drink. There's a very extensive wine list, as well as a cocktail/mocktail selection as well. The latter were quite nice to start off the meal with, and I ended up going with a 3-course wine pairing that was well-selected. One can dine a la carte or off a tasting menu here, depending on how hungry / adventurous you are; we ended up going with the tasting menu and did not regret it a bit. While the Italian influences are certainly present in the food - whether it be from the absolutely perfectly-cooked dollop of spaghetti topped with roe, or the excellently-cooked ravioli that was encased in a rich tomato sauce and topped with a couple leaves of basil - the food tends more towards modern European tendencies and sometimes verges on the experimental. This is the first dessert in a long time where the palate cleanser was a vegetable (a sprig of lettuce), followed by a dessert where the 'sweet' (a parfait) was served with a dill-infused broth and and surrounded by cucumbers and carrots. Those pushed the boundaries a bit, but more traditional items, such as a slice of duck breast that had perfectly-crisped skin on top, were excellent as well. It's easy to fill up on bread as well; the freshly-baked loaves of sourdough are delicious, as is the brioche/croissant hybrid that is very flaky and is a sponge for the olive oil. The fish is locally-sourced - after all, the restaurant is right by a lake - and that was excellent as well. I really enjoyed the first course, which blended the sweet (peach) with a plainer bite that provided texture (asparagus) to go with some silky-smooth slices of char sashimi. The whitefish was well-prepared, but what I really enjoyed the most was the generous helping of seaweed, which gave a bit more saltiness and accentuated the fish's flavors. The setting for the restaurant is fabulous, and the ambiance is cosmopolitan yet traditional. The drinks were great, and the food is refined and an excellent take on European food with Italian influences. If you're in the Como area, I'd definitely recommend paying a visit here for a meal, even though it's about a 20-minute drive from the city center...you won't regret it!
