The 12 Best Restaurants In Tulum - Tulum - The Infatuation

"There’s a stretch of the Tulum coastline where it feels like the restaurants are competing for a noise complaint—you might think you took a wrong turn and ended up at a techno festival. Once you’re in at Ilios, it feels like the club it sounds like: people stand on tables and chairs, waving their napkins in the air. Food comes secondary here, and it’s easy to be so caught up in the chaos that you might forget to order any. You could have a full dinner, but we’d recommend ordering a few nibbly bits to snack on instead. The impromptu conga lines and staff wearing gimmicky, toga-style dresses are why you came." - barbara gutierrez, rianne shlebak

Came for my birthday, and it was an amazing experience. I was a bit afraid it was going to be a tourist trap but I’m so glad we came! The food was DELICIOUS. Most dishes were unknown to us but there wasn’t anything we didn’t like. They brought out a cake for me which was ok but the baklava was of course the star. We were lucky we got a table right in front of all the action. Service was of course top notch. All the different shows were amazing, I loved how the staff encourages you to participate when able to. We got there at 7, and were about to leave at 9:30 when I asked the waiter about the breaking dishes part, he said they do it at 10 if we wanted to wait around so we ordered drinks and stayed. It was fun but we were pretty much the last ones to do it and they were like hurry! Hurry! So didn’t get to enjoy it that much. Other than that, no complaints, it was really a great experience and I would 100% go back for another special occasion.

When we can to Ilios, we knew there was going to be some kind of show, we didn’t know it was going to be so much fun! Starting around 9:15pm and going till we left about 2 hours later, there were belly dances, dire googling, crowd participation and more. The atmosphere was electric and infused with happiness and fun. Our servers Abram and Caleb were friendly and very accommodating. The food, all of it, was absolutely delicious with the fish, that was cooked with salt and then stripped, set on fire table side and then served, being the highlight of the meal. It was a great evening all together except for one thing that actually made us leave before we could finish our dessert: SMOKING. The seating area is not outside. It does have open windows around and fans Inside, but those fans are turned off every time there is a show, which is a lot. There shouldn’t be smoking allowed inside. It’s 2025 and we all know that second hand smoke kills. And it smells bad and for some, makes us sick. Please, please, please follow the trend all around the world and ban smoking inside. So, highly recommended, just watch out for the smoking….

Had an absolutely amazing time!!! They took care of everything we needed and made sure that everything we ordered was to our liking. The place is very animated and full of life and great music. They were very accommodating and kind to me and my boyfriend for our first night in Mexico. 10/10 recommend if you want amazing food and you dont mind the music being a bit loud but fun. Recommend the lamb shank and baklava!!

This place is a MUST!!!!! A Magical Greek Dining Experience in the Heart of Playa! Ilios Playa del Carmen is hands down one of the most spectacular dining experiences I've had in Mexico. From the moment we walked in, we were transported to a Mediterranean paradise. The décor is breathtaking—elegant, warm, and authentically Greek with a modern twist. The food was absolutely phenomenal. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The ambiance is lively and unforgettable, with music, dancing, and even the iconic plate-breaking tradition that adds so much fun to the night. The staff was incredibly warm and professional, making sure we felt like VIPs the entire time. If you're in Playa del Carmen and want a mix of amazing food, incredible service, and an unforgettable atmosphere—Ilios is a must-visit. Bravo!

Amazing service and ambiance! The food, drinks and vibes were immaculate. The music was amazing. Hugo took such great care of me and my friends, and made sure our bride felt so special. The live dancing and plate smashing were the highlight of our night. Wonderful experience, 10/10!

Ilios lives up to its name!! Full of light and love 💕 What an environment!! We had over 3 shows within 30 minutes of being here! The food is to die for… flavorful, made with attention to detail, and excellent service!! Our servers were Facundo and Enrique and wow couldn’t have been attended to better! To summarize, all I can say is what an experience, from belly dancers to fire shows and even plate breaking!! It’s a party at Ilios, are you ready?

Very good foods. Normal portion. Very good service, our service was really particularly amazing, so many small attentions make it the best I ever see in Mexico for the moment. Vibe is great, music is really good. They do a good show. The shisha / hookah is really expensive but good. The foods price is normal for that kind of place around 600-1500 pesos each. I recommend it at least one time or with a group many time.

My group and I choose this place as our last meal of the trip. We were extremely excited to try this place out and had reservations ahead of time but ended up being free earlier in the day and the restaurant was able to push our reservation earlier which kind of them. Loved the atmosphere and how the hosts were all dressed to match the aesthetic of Greek restaurant. The belly dancer performance was pretty cool. I love how they let you choose what to add to the water such as cucumber, lemon, or lime which made your water experience feel luxurious. Overall this restaurant had a lot of promise but the server really was a make or break it for me. One of the first red flags was that our server Adi when we were seated actually asked us for a review before our food even came or we finished ordering. The reason he asked for a review is because he actually was looking at my phone screen and saw that I was looking at Tripadvisor since I wanted to see some pictures of the food. I was a little unsettled that not only was he looking at me on my phone and what I was doing but he also tried getting a review before food was out. I told him I would since I felt a little awkward about interaction and he stood behind me as if waiting for me to write it right then and there and I told him I would do it after we were done eating since I didn't even get to experience whole meal yet. The next encounter that was unsettling was when we were ordering I specifically told him I would be sharing with my husband and pointed to my husband. He then proceeded to go to my husband and ask what he wanted and I repeated to Adi that he was the one I was sharing with, after that he kept asking my husband what he wanted and my husband was confused since we were telling him we were sharing and he then proceeded to rudely say I know I understand English, and then proceeded to ask my husband what he wanted again although we repeated that we were sharing and didn't need anything else to order. It felt like he was pressuring us to order more and what was crazy is that we ordered two entrees that we both were sharing so it was plenty of food for two people. The food was presented nicely especially with the plates, but then there was more drama at our table again because Adi put plates on our table since some of us were sharing but then realized there wasn't enough space so they took all extra plates out. Then our other server Roberto puts all our plates back, then Adi sees Roberto putting the plates back down and then proceeds to yell at him which was extremely uncomfortable and then angrily pick up all the plates again. Honestly up until this point we weren't enjoying the atmosphere at the place since we had a horrible time with the server. Manager did come by right when food came out to see how was everything but, we felt so uncomfortable that we didn't want to say anything since Adi was right there so we just wanted to hurry up and eat and leave. Food came out with nice presentation, and overall wasn't too bad only the lobster was a little overcooked and chewy and the fish fillet was small serving. We had a birthday celebration but honestly at that point we wanted to leave since we felt pretty uncomfortable with server and asked for check but then he threw some free stuff at us like free birthday cake, cookies, and bracelet which he said everyone gets. Although they were nice gestures we had such an uncomfortable time up until the point of asking for check that we didn't even enjoy them at the end because of overall experience. The final issue we had is that he first insisted on a 20% or 18% tip. After all the craziness you really want to insist on 18-20% tip? That was an instant turn off and we wanted to give him a lower tip because of uncomfortable experience. He then proceeded to argue with us back and forth about what he deserves and wouldn't let us pay unless we added more tip which was crazy. Overall server made experience horrible and worst part was that it was last meal of trip so it left bad taste to end trip.
