"Illegal Food, formerly located in Virginia-Highland, was known for the popular Hank burger. The restaurant has now closed, but the owners are considering future appearances at festivals and farmers markets around Atlanta." - Beth McKibben

"It seems Illegal Food, the purveyors of okonomiyaki fries and the coveted burger The Hank, may be reopening their restaurant in the Cabbagetown neighborhood. Chef Steven Lingenfelter and his wife and general manager Laurie Dominguez made the announcement via Facebook Tuesday. They plan to open in the old Cabbage Pie space on Carroll Street." - Beth McKibben

We came right at open on a Thursday and for the half hour or so we were there, it was empty other than us. What a shame, because everything was absolutely tasty. My alcoholic beverage was called "Hawaiian iced tea" or something similar, basically like a long island but a little more tropical. Quite strong, very good. I shared a serving of the honey sriracha fries. The fries themselves were hot and crispy. The topping, which included sesame seeds was original and the perfect amount of sweet and spicy flavor. The burger was one with pimento cheese, I forgot the name but it was large, juicy, and messy in a good way. I will be back to try more of those fry flavors.

3rd time eating here. Great service and food although not my favorite burger in the city, very respectable. 2 things I don't like: 1.everything is a la carte. I'd be cool with slightly smaller side portions to have something come with. Plus, this makes for a slightly higher than normal tab for a burger. 2. You have to pay to park. Again, adding to the cost of the overall experience.

The food was great, bigger portions than I was expecting so you're definitely getting your money's worth. Plus the service was great too! Will definitely go back.

This was easily the best and most satisfying burger that I've ever had.I ordered the "Hank". Initially I thought it looked small, but it seems that the patty was "tall" rather than wide. The fries were fried way too hard. We sent them back, and were happier with the next batch. The service was very friendly and helpful. We appreciated how nice they were about us sending the fries back... I'll note that the burgers do not come with fries, and a side of fried is rather expensive (7-10 dollars). The burgers are plenty satisfying without the fries. They aren't necessary, nor are they that great. I recommend eating the whole burger and ordering the fries afterward if you are still hungry. Better yet, visit another restaurant for dessert (they don't consistently sell dessert). A friend ordered some sort of fried chicken sandwich. I can only remember that the waiter recommended it instead of the "Le Cluck". It looked amazing. She said that it was very juicy, and that even the juice was delicious! Overall our experience was great. We were definitely happy that we came, and are likely to return.

My family and I visit often. Love the food and atmosphere each time. The food is beyond amazing. During the multiple times I've been here I've never experienced any issues which why it's hard to believe the negative reviews. It states on their menu what to expect about substitutions, so if you don't read that's on you. The meat is great quality from local farmers and always fresh. I could go on and on but there's not enough space. I'm in love with their Wedge Salad, all the hamburgers, the Brussels sprout. Also the Brunch is amazing.

Waste of time and money. It took over an hour and a half to get our food and forty minutes to get a drink. The staff was not gracious, attentive or apologetic and made our party feel like it was our fault for the long wait. People sat down after us, were fed, and left before we got our food. They claim that the ("allow 20 minutes") made to order pot pie slowed down the ticket because they wanted to serve our food at the same time. This dish arrived at least ten minutes after we finally got our burgers. Appetizers and salads arrived with or after the entrees too. We were disrespected by the manager, owner, chef, wait staff, you name it. This place cannot last at this rate--do not spend your money here! After we paid, the icing on the cake was a cook yelling at us through the restaurant that we planned this to get free sh** and then slamming the door behind us.

This place was selected by my son. I questioned the location because it seemed like it was in the middle of a residential area. However, it was beyond what I expected and more. The selection of beers and cocktails peaked my interest and the appetizers were amazing. The burger do require a healthy appetite and two hands. I will definitely go back here the next time I'm in Atlanta

Arguably one of Atlanta's tastiest and most unique restaurants. Don't expect a normal meal- expect it to be enjoyably different than what you're typically accustomed to.Best shrimp and grits I've had. The bread of the chicken and waffles tasted like funnel cake. Sizable portions and I've always had an attentive wait staff.
