Imbros Gorge was by far the easiest hike I’ve ever done and one of the most enjoyable. There are a couple of ways to approach it. One option is to park your car at the entrance at the top and then catch a taxi back up after finishing the hike. But since we were visiting in the off-season and weren’t sure we’d find a taxi at the end, we didn’t want to take the chance.
Instead, we chose to park at the bottom near the tavernas. We asked one of them to call a taxi, but they actually had their own driver who took us up for 25 euros (they asked for 28, but we only had 25 in cash, and they were perfectly fine with it). This way, when we finished our hike, our car was waiting for us right at the bottom, super convenient.
Starting from the top and doing only the descent was incredibly easy. The path is mostly smooth rock with a gentle slope, and we didn’t break a sweat. The scenery is absolutely stunning… narrow passages, soaring rock walls, and the sound of mountain goats with their bells echoing through the gorge. The 7 km walk took about 2 hours at a relaxed pace.
Honestly, we could have easily done the round-trip up and down. If you choose that option, start around 9:30 AM, enjoy lunch at the top, and then hike back down. The full hike takes about 4–5 hours and is still very manageable and super enjoyable.
A truly beautiful, accessible, and memorable hike. Highly recommended! 🌄🐐
