The Best Travel Insurance for Digital Nomads (Updated 2025)

"I view IMG's Global Medical Insurance as a flexible option for long-term travelers and expats, with maximum limit choices from $1,000,000 to $8,000,000 USD, deductible options ranging from $100 to $25,000 USD, and tiered Bronze/Silver/Gold/Platinum plans; it includes prescription drugs, some mental health care, some coverage for preexisting conditions, optional vision in the Platinum plan, nonemergency dental in Platinum, maternity only in Platinum, and add-ons for sports activities in higher tiers and terrorism coverage for Platinum, and it requires US citizens to be outside the US at least six months per year and covers up to age 74." - Matthew Kepnes

It has now been three months and the status of Marina’s claim has never changed once. On the other side, the second claim has been “under review” for over a month, even though we already sent every single document they requested — twice. No one replies to emails. The chat never works. Phone support hangs up. Every update feels like a copy-paste with no real action behind it. The experience makes it hard to believe these delays are accidental. It looks like a strategy to exhaust customers so they give up on legitimate claims.

SCAM ALERT!!! I purchased insurance in April for my August trip. I had a medical emergency during my trip and submitted it to the insurance. It has been 4 months since and it is still not processed. I have never seen something like this. I sent multiple emails and called many times. They kept escalating and saying "it will be solved in the next few days". This is the worst insurance i have ever seen. DO NOT PURCHASE EVER!!!

I’m extremely disappointed with IMG Travel Insurance. Their handling of my claim has been slow, disorganized, and unnecessarily stressful. Despite providing complete documentation, I’ve repeatedly been asked for the same materials, and communication has been inconsistent and unhelpful. It feels like they are hoping delays and frustration will make customers give up. I purchased travel insurance for peace of mind, but this experience has been the opposite. I would strongly caution others to think twice before choosing IMG. I wish I had read more reviews about their business practices before purchading a policy with them.

I strongly recommend avoiding IMG Travel Insurance. It may look cheap upfront, but you quickly realize why: when you actually need support, it feels like you don’t have insurance at all. Their policies are full of fine print, and when you try to make a legitimate claim, they rely on those little “asterisks” to deny or delay everything. In my experience, the moment you need real assistance, you’re left completely on your own. It’s advertised as affordable, but the truth is that it’s “cheap” because it won’t be there when it matters. Save yourself the stress and frustration. Spend a little more and choose a company that actually protects you when you’re in trouble.

Stay away, worst insurance. Soon after purchasing, I had to make a date change, sent repeated emails, no one responds, called and spoke to agent twice, was told that it will be done, no one did it. Interestingly, whenever you call, there is a default message that there are 3 clients ahead of you! This is the level of service without filing any claim! What will happen if I needed to file a claim. Won't be using them again.

I strongly advise against buying insurance from IMG. My father visited me from India and had to go to the emergency room. His claim of around $7,000 has been pending since June 27, 2025. Initially, IMG told us that claims are processed within 30 days after all documents are submitted (we resubmitted everything on August 28, 2025). Later, they changed their timeline to 45 days. After that, they said the claim was “escalated” and would be resolved within 14 days. However, when we followed up after those 14 days, they claimed that “escalation” doesn’t actually mean it will be expedited — and that the claim is still “under review.” This constant shifting of timelines and lack of accountability feels deeply untrustworthy. I would not recommend IMG to anyone based on this experience.

I purchased a travel insurance policy that included Teladoc telemedicine service, but setting it up was a nightmare. The website repeatedly rejected my application. I called IMG, who directed me to Teladoc, who sent me back to IMG, and so on. No one cared. No one could help. After bouncing between call centers and speaking to multiple representatives, one promised to resolve the issue and call me back. Spoiler: they didn’t. The policy only allows setup on the departure day, so I left without access to the service. If I needed a doctor during my trip, I had no idea who to contact. Avoid this company at all costs!

THE worst insurance company in the whole world. I've never in my whole life, dealt with such a pathetic insurance company. They are the worst of the worst. They've got zero customer support. You can call them, email them, fax them, mail them. THEY will not reply. It's utterly pathetic. I even have no words. The short story. I have a claim with them. It took them 3 months to review it and come to a conclusion. Then they issued a settlement letter and supposedly issued a payment which never arrived. So for the past 2 months I've been constantly emailing them for them to issue the money. 2 months later, they haven't issued a settlement, and every time someone replies via email they say. " WE HAVE ESCALATED THE MATTER TO OUR BOSS" Well... they have been escalating the issue for 2 months to their boss and I still have no settlement in my bank account. This whole situation with them makes them look absolutely pathetic. It's been total 5 months. This company is absolutely unreliable and untrustworthy, stay away from them. HORRIBLEEEEEEEEE.
