Yelp
Their almond coffee cake is the bomb! Not too sweet but great taste & fresh! Love this local bakery. Support it!

Yelp
Haven't been in the neighborhood in years and based on the reviews I thought I would stop in and buy stuff the bring home. I bought some pumpkin slices and apple slices among other items. The pumpkin slices were overcooked as they were dry and had no flavor. While the apple slices tasted somewhat better the icing overwhelmed the flavor of the apples. We ended up pitching the rest of the slices in the garbage. The place was clean and there was a large selection of cookies which looked good but did not try. Needless to say I will not be returning.

Yelp
Local neighborhood bakery , I just got here on a bad day I guess . Bought 6 almond biscotti and 6 anise. Way over baked , hard as rocks even soaking in coffee for a bit. Also bought an Atomic cake which the cake was good but that was not whipped cream , some fake stuff. Will give the place 1 more try before I write them off

Yelp
I have been in this bakery many times throughout the years for their delish variety of bakery and specialty holiday treats but have never ordered a cake from them. Shame on me for waiting so damn long. I decided to use them to order a 10" birthday cake with 2 fillings, one banana and one strawberry with the whipped cream frosting. Omgoodness it was super delicious! The cake was moist, the filling was fresh and the whipped cream frosting was perfect. Plus they only need a day or 2 notice and are open Sat & Sun. until noon or 1 pm. I will be using this bakery for all my special occasions from now on.

Yelp
Soo many options, it's overwhelming. The case was stocked to the brim. The donuts were okay. I asked for a chocolate icing donut and she gave me vanilla, so double check your bag before you leave.

Yelp
I saw one of the workers dip her finger into somebody's coffee before serving it to them. Ordered an Italian sub that had mold on the bread. Never coming back.

Yelp
Visiting from San Francisco with my 11 y/o son and staying in the neighborhood for the week. Stumbled upon this bakery while out getting coffee our second morning here. Delicious cannoli, cinnamon roll, cookies, and chocolate donuts. No surprise that it's been around as long as it has!

Jose Z.

Yelp
Always a great place to get a snack! Love the cannolis! And the pizza bread is awesome as well!

Yelp
Wow, what an awesome bakery! Awesome donuts, sweetrolls, and eclairs. Super clean and bright! Ordering and pickup were a breeze. I was a baker for ten years so you can trust me on this!

Marco K.

Yelp
Owner very rude and flippant with customers . Like he's doing you a favor and you're patronizing his business . He probably should be behind the scenes. Bakery goods just ok

Yelp
Best chocolate donuts in Chicago and the sausage bread is excellent !! Don't forget the coffee cakes

Yelp
Impallaria is a treat for me. I try to stop by here every time I'm in the neighborhood. Hours are limited, so plan the rest of your schedule in Bridgeport slightly around Impallaria Bakery! It's a small bakery with some of the most delicious cookies and freshest bread you'll find. On this particular visit, I had for the very first time their focaccia, and it was super-fresh, warm, hefty and doughy, soft and satisfying. They don't make anything exotic but what they do is delicious. The biggest treat of all is ordering myself a made-to-order cannoli! The young ladies behind the counter grab a tray, a pastry shell, a tub of chocolate chip sweet cream ricotta cheese, ground pistachios, and a sifter of powdered sugar... and then make it right in front of your eyes. It's a sight to be seen and for the 2 minutes it takes to prepare you've already begun to salivate and get excited. You'll be able to sit at one of the two tables in the bakery with a cup of coffee and your cannoli and let everything in the outside world just pass by. Customer service is always fast and with a smile. The bakery is spotless clean and well organized. Get there in the morning if you want to get bread. In the back room...(this probably scares you starting a sentence off this way when talking about in Italian bakery! LOL)... is the sandwich counter! They make a delicious sandwich and have a somewhat limited menu so you know what they do, they do right. Meats and cheeses and dressings are always fresh, the sandwiches are absolutely filling and delicious. You won't want to go back to a chain restaurant sandwich shop for a long time. More often than not, there is a parking spot across the street or in front of the building. If not, double Park in the bus stop with your blinkers on and get in and get out!

Yelp
The chocolate donuts are to die for & the other pastries are delicious! If you don't see what you want, ask & more than likely, they'll make it.

Yelp
I love this place! They have everything from donuts to pastries to bread to subs. The store was very inviting with all the pastries and donuts on display. The staff was really friendly and welcoming. I love how quick and patient they were. The woman that made my sandwich did it so quickly. It's a really good neighborhood bakery and deli. I got the coconut donut, chocolate, pretzel-chocolate, and custard filled donut for $1.22 each. The price is amazing for the size of the donuts. The coconut was really good. It was a bit crunchy which I enjoyed and it was a cake donut which I really liked. I wouldn't recommend the pretzel-chocolate. It's a regular donut shaped liked a pretzel--nothing special to it. I like how fluffy and moist their donuts are. I also got their spicy Italian sub. It's 9 inches for $7.34. It has hot capicola, pepperoni, spicy sopressata, salami, mortadella, provolone, lettuce, and tomato. For the price, you get more than what it's worth. Half a sub fills you up right away. It is sooooo good. Literally a must try!! The Meat and cheese blended well together. The spices were there but not overpowering. I asked for giardinera--they make their own--which is 50 cent extra. I was so disappointed because it seemed like my sub didn't have giardinera at all in it. For something that you pay extra for, I would've liked to have it present. The part of the sub that did have the giardinera, it was phenomenal! It was soo good. The giardinera would have really brought up the sub into a different level if only there were more of it. I recommend this place. You must try it even if it's just a donut or pastry but try the Spicy Italian sub! Definitely coming back when I'm back in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Great Neighborhood Bakery with Epic Donuts and really good strip danish. Their focaccia is light as air and the service is very friendly.

Yelp
Impallaria is in an accessible location in Bridgeport, making it our preferred trek for a bakery. You can depend on them for fresh loaves of bread and baked goods filled with cream. They also have their own branded gardinera which has evolved into a new food group for me during the pandemic. They prefer cash; wear masks; allow limited number of patrons each time; protect their register and food area with various glass/plastic that functions as a sneeze guard.

Yelp
Just love their pecan coffee cake! Haven't tried their deli yet but it's on my list of things to do.

Yelp
Amazing sandwiches, donuts, pastries, and pizza bread. Very friendly service and classic vibe

Yelp
Impallaria Bakery & Deli KNOWS what they are doing in the kitchen. Came here for National Donut Day 2019 and was AMAZED at the variety! Seriously, you name any sort of baked good and they have it in a variety of forms and flavors Everything looked baked to perfection and extremely fresh. They had everything from jumbo cookies to tomato rolls to pizza to rum balls. Since it was national donut day, we got 4 donuts (total price ~$6). Again, everything was baked to perfection and wasn't overpoweringly sweet. The jumbo pretzel donut is essentially a large glazed donut in a pretzel shape, but it was one of the best glazed donuts I've had in a long time! The toasted coconut had a perfect balance of sweet and salty with a crunchy texture. We loved the donuts so much we actually stopped by the deli and ordered a spicy Italian sub! It was a bit oily for my liking but overall very tasty. If you're looking for a baked good (savory or sweet), Impallaria is the place to go!!

Mikki O.

Yelp
What a hidden gem! The cookies were delicious and those donuts....I had to return a week later. Not quite a fan of the cannoli. It's definitely fresh, but I've had better.

Ashley A.

Yelp
OMG!! I am so mad I just discovered this place! It has been around the Bridgeport neighborhood for a while and for good reason! Their bread, donuts and quite frankly everything is absolutely delicious. The owner is the only one working their each time I've been there and is extremely friendly. The prices are extremely reasonable as well a definite must!

John J.

Yelp
I've never had anything bad here I moved out to Mt.Greenwood and still come down to the neighborhood to get my kids donuts they get a kick outta how big they are

Kristal E.

Yelp
Love this place! Doughnuts are nice and big! Love the buttery almond coffee cakes. Sooo good!

Yelp
Need fresh bread? Looking for a whole-grain snack to go? Maybe a bite-size pastry for an office department birthday? Impallaria is your place to visit. There are concerns to living within close proximity to a 60 year old, local bakery. Their sweet aroma is alluring and seductive. After multiple visits, my olfactory receptors have grown to like it more and more. My belly have also become incredibly possessive of their pastry goodies and it has been more difficult to work off the calories. So far my favorites would be their Napoleon, pecan coffeecake, and chocolate chip coffeecake. Their other items such as the donuts, cheesecake, and cream puffs seem enticing. Don't be surprised to find me there on your next visit.

Yelp
Best donuts in all of Chicagoland. My wife's boss lives in the neighborhood and has treated her staff to chocolate donuts from Impallaria and lunches from Gio's for years. I live in the suburbs about 40 minutes away from this bakery. For me, it's worth the drive down for the best chocolate cake donut. The taste and texture is perfect with a little bit of crispness and delicious chocolate.

Michael H.

Yelp
Wonderful Neighborhood Bakery that's been in biz for over 50 years, they said. Walking in the aroma of a REAL Bakery takes you back to a simpler time. Smallish shop with pastry cases packing awesome cookies, cakes, donuts, coffee cakes, etc. They also make Submarine Sandwiches in the back that are very good & fresh! I would try the Italian with Homemade Hot Giardiniera/ really fresh & great bread. The donuts are great as are the Italian Cookies! Just get a half pound variety bag and see what I mean/ they are perfect. Prices seem really cheap to me and service is great! Must stop in Bridgeport/ talk later

Yelp
We found this place almost by accident, as it just happened to be nearby to the White Sox stadium when we were headed there for a tour. I'm not sure we'd have ever just happened into this neighborhood otherwise, and the business itself is pretty small and non-descript from the outside, but I was so glad that we did stop here. The apple and cherry slices we got were like having the best part of a slice of pie, but over the course of an entire square "bar" like treat, and with frosting on top (or dutch apple/cherry crumble!) My wife got a gigantic apple fritter (like "size of your head" gigantic) that was very good, as was the very unique (but self-explanatory) bacon biscuit that I got. Wish we'd had time to go back again, as everything was excellent.

Yelp
Amazing local bakery in the Bridgeport neighborhood! The staff there are all very friendly and patient as you take forever deciding how to not buy up the whole store! This place is such a gem. All of their danishes are fantastic! The portion is huge, but none of it is hard or dry. The sweetness is to perfection, where you won't feel overstuffed after stuffing your face. The donuts are also very moist and not overly sweet! The chocolate and strawberry cake donuts are a favorite. The cake donuts have such a lighter texture than the usually dense and oily ones found elsewhere. The cookie and little cake square varieties all look fantastic as well, can't wait to try those hopefully soon!

Lucy K.

Yelp
Great hidden gem. Love gluten free cookies. I have bought pastries for other family and friends and it never disappoints.

Nama L.

Yelp
Looked everywhere for plain empty cannoli shells and found them here!!! Yay!! Very nice staff and the place smells wonderful.

Gail A.

Yelp
This bakery is right down the street from where my Mother-in-law lives. Throughout our family's recent visit to Chicago, I often stopped here for coffee and pastries. Our family especially liked the glazed donuts; they are huge and delicious. I plan on stopping here whenever I'm in Chicago from now on.

Jonna N.

Yelp
Good bakery with a CTA stop nearby. I usually get a hot chocolate if it's cold outside to drink during the wait. It always smells of awesome baked goods. It's super warm inside too. So warmth and baked goods is a great welcoming entrance to this bakery. I like getting the almond horn or eclair. There's also a little seating area if you want to enjoy coffee and baked goods.

Randy C.

Yelp
They don't make them like this place anymore. A true bakery in an authentic chicago neighborhood that makes everything just like they did back in the day. Also hit them up for lunch which is just as good and authentic.

David R.

Yelp
I trekked down to Impallaria on a Sunday morning to try their apple fritter. It was a long trip, but I do what it takes to serve my obsession. Turns out that it was a pretty good doughnut, but only a mediocre apple fritter. It just didn't have any apples, and hardly any cinnamon to boot. But it did boast that perfect fritter texture, soft on the inside and really firm on the outside. Plus the sugar content was pitch perfect. If they would only add some apples and spices, this would be a prince among fritters. Obviously I had to get more than one doughnut since I went all the way down there. The coconut cake doughnut was very, very good. Most places can't do a cake doughnut to save themselves, but Impallaria's was perfect AND did not leave that unpleasant film on my teeth like most do. I also got a boston creme which wasn't very special but tasted good anyway. Prices are good here: I didn't notice the exact breakdown, but my entire bill was $3.11. Nice.

Justina M.

Yelp
I literally get a coffee cake every two days! I've tried all the flavors and all are delicious!

Diana G.

Yelp
Like a few people stated, I don't think this is a deli. Just a bakery. I came in to inquire about cakes and decided to get two cannolis to try. They were fine, but I'll like to come back and try the donuts next time.

Michael F.

Yelp
What used to be a nice neighborhood bakery has quickly taken a down hill turn. They never had a very good selection of donuts anyway, it has become greasy and musty smelling and they definitely have cockroaches. It is probably for the best because the owner James is rude and discourteous to the same people in the neighborhood that patronize his business.

Todd O.

Yelp
Great old neighborhood bakery. Very good prices and an old school feel.

Vonda B.

Yelp
I dropped a couple of passengers off and decided to drop in since i find it almost impossible for me to resist bakeries. It looked outside to be cute and inviting. When i walked in, there was no greeting and the girls behind the counter gave off a very distant and cold appeal as if i was not expected to be walking in. I didnt know what to buy, and when i asked qiestions, they seemed unenthusiastic to answer or help. I also asked if i could use the bathroom that was,in the sitting area and they said that they didn't have public bathrooms. How could a cafe/bakery that has public seating/dining inside not offer a public bathroom....hummmmm?? Despite all, i did buy few pastries and a cup of coffee which were just shy of being "okay" however, i will not be bacl!

CK M.

Yelp
Stopped for cappuccino and a sweet after lunch. Bakery items were good, but the cappuccino was a sweetened mix of some kind, not the real thing.

Chris R.

Yelp
Delicious donuts at a good price. Favorites are the sugar twist and the cinnamon roll donuts. Everybody at my work uses this as our go-to when grabbing donuts.

Luke D.

Yelp
The donuts at Impallaria and Bridgeport Bakery are the gold standard for classic donuts in Chicago. Impallaria's chocolate cake and glazed yeast donuts are as legit as any donuts I've had anywhere. These new jack trendy donut places need to fall back and bow down to the OG. Great donuts at a great price. Go here now.

Aaron S.

Yelp
I can't vouch for the fact that this place is supposedly a deli, but I can vouch for the baked goods section. I wandered in to this place on a lonely Saturday afternoon during a random walk around Bridgeport. The shelves were rather empty when it came to the donuts and some of their pastries. Other pastries were readily available at one of the MANY counters/displays going on here. If this place has a fault, it's that it's trying to have so wide an array of baked goods. But then again, this is a bakery - so is that really a fault? I suppose it could be if the baked goods suffered, but what I purchased that afternoon (the last two apple fritters that were begging to be taken to a good home/belly) I can say that's not really the case. My one qualm is the entire giant display of Italian cookies. There's just rows and rows of the little buggers, all the same except for differently-colored sprinkle toppings. Does a variety of sprinkles really warrant an entire display case? Do people really come in and say "Gimme half a pound of the red ones, and half a pound of the green ones, and a full pound of the rainbow assortment"? Well, I guess the next time I need a cheap cookie arrangement to go with a color-based party theme, I know where to turn.

Yelp
Went for the first time last week. Phenomenal!! Going to make this the bakery to stop at once a week. I ordered the Napoleon and an apple slice to take home but ate their bacon biscuit on the ride home. A must go to!!

Maria D.

Yelp
I grew up on wallace i remember my grandmother always getting sweets from there...OMG the smell would fill the house awesome this bakery brings back alot of memories. Walking in today was flashback to the nieghborhood have to go more often!! So good it hasnt changed!!!

Susan C.

Yelp
Impalleria is my favorite bakery and deli anywhere! Each time I come in from Michigan City, indiana I have to stop at Impalleria's for either donuts, cookies or one of their delicious sub sandwiches! I have been patronizing Impalleria's for over 50 years and I will continue for many many more! Go to Impalleria's for a little taste of heaven....everything they sell you can't go wrong!

Cara K.

Yelp
Stopped in here the other day mainly because I have been using my LevelUp app and I noticed this Bakery on the list of businesses with LevelUp in Bridgeport. The reviews here are spot on. I had a surprisingly delicious machine-dispensed latte and a scrumptious chocolate frosted cake donut. I think it ended up costing my boyfriend and I like a dollar each, which is right on target for my broke college student budget. My only negative comment is that there is no seating in the small shop, but I will be returning for Valentine's cookies very soon.

Christian R.

Yelp
Good sandwiches and baked goods. Friendly staff and clean surroundings. I recommend this spot to anyone!

Charlotte O.

Yelp
So today was Fat Tuesday/Packzi Day/Pancake day. Even though I am not Catholic enough to fast for or even give up anything for lent, I always partake in a Packzi or two. I am Polish after all, so when every bakery in Chicago is selling these, how can I pass em up? A couple of weeks ago Aaron S. found out that this bakery, just a couple of blocks away from home were making them, I figured what do I have to loose in trying them out? I had a different but further away bakery in mind to try out, but once my work schedual came out for the week, I realized that making it out there during non peak hours wouldn't quite work out. I went in to pick up my order about twenty minutes before the time I gave them and I didn't have to wait at all. No lines. Awesome. The Packzi themselves? Really good. They have the right texture. Are the right size (BIG) and just almost perfect flavor. I was confused by a couple of things though. They were more like a Packzi sandwich. I guess they filled them that way to save time? It just confuses me when places do it this way because none of the Packzi's from my childhood were ever made this way. Also custard Packzi's traditionally have a chocolate icing/glaze on them, these did not. Very minor things really in the big picture. All in all I was/am a happy camper.

Calvin W.

Yelp
Bought some cake slices there. Stale and all dried up. Wouldn't return. Also bought pecan tart which is decent but nothing special.
