A longtime Cantonese standby where Fresno families gather for weekend dim sum carts, whole roast duck, and banquet-style spreads. Noted by the Fresno Bee as a go-to for Chinese in town, it remains one of the city’s essential sit-down experiences.

Google
TLDR: Authentic food at very reasonable prices with large portion. This place reminds me of what southern CA used to afford 10 years ago: authentic food at affordable prices with large portion. It is as authentic as you could get for Cantonese dishes. Service was not perfect. Some waitresses were nice but others not so much, which by itself is also very authentic. Overall a very pleasant experience. We will come back!

Google
Fresh consistent and delicious food. I have preferred eating here for 20 years now! Our family favorite is Fried Squid with garlic and peppers! All the dishes are great and we still have like 80% more to try!

Google
Imperial Garden is a solid spot if you're craving Chinese food and need something quick. They’ve got a good dim sum menu and decent-sized combo plates. This visit we had the orange chicken, kung pao shrimp, and teriyaki chicken all tasty!

Google
Such friendly Service. Attentive and food was Amazing! Made it for Lunch. Tried Both Lunch specials. I got the General Tao which my brother kept eating! He got the Lunch Combo Sweet and Sour Pork. Huge portions. Had to take home, which she kindly came & boxes it up at table side.

Google
My man and I only really come here for the Dim-Sum! But I will say, based off other people's entrees, you cant go wrong. There's always tables available, service is straight forward and quick! We usually order 5 plates for dim-sum and it comes out to a little over $30. It fills us everytime and is always worth the money. Never had a bad visit at Imperial Garden.

Google
The food is absolutely delicious and served piping hot which I absolutely love. The staff are friendly and quick. The Chinese chicken salad is a must & the they offer fresh steaming BBQ pork buns at your table . Best part is the Cart with several delicacies each prepared with a lot of effort and you won't regret trying any of it.. the only thing I regret is being at at a bigger table because you will need it for the many dishes you will be enjoying.

Yelp
Been coming here for as long as I can remember. My parents know everyone here. Food is great, dimsum still has rolling carts, chicken salad is top tier. Everyone is always so nice. Lots of tables and open space.

Yelp
This is my family's go-to spot for dim sum. The dim sum dishes are solid. The Chinese Chicken Salad and Beef Chow Fun are also good here. Their portions are HUGE. I haven't had any issues with service. They usually help me look for the dish I want. I also like that it's not always busy and crowded. I'll continue to come here for dim sum and will explore the rest of the menu.

Yelp
Another long standing restaurant on blackstone and Herndon and they just open another on Herndon and cedar. Love the foods and we like the server that can speak multi language there she is very sweet. Also the only dimsum place using cart in Fresno !!

Yelp
Food is always palate pleasing. Shout out to floor crew...Mimi, two Michelle's, Fong, & Shirley. Celebrated Father's Day with my Vietnam Veteran. Always a refreshing atmosphere & experience when having an awesome fellowship with breaking bread. I highly recommend Imperial Garden Restaurant for your fine cuisine pleasures.

Yelp
There aren't many authentic Chinese food options in Fresno that are sit-down and offer all the traditional Cantonese-style popular dishes, including dim sum, pan fried noodles, and fried rice. Imperial Garden is the one constant that has somehow lasted through decades since my childhood growing up in town and through the years of ownership changes to now when I only occasionally return "home" for a family and friends visit. The menu is extensive, ambiance average, and service typical of what you get when you think of stereotypical Chinese restaurants (and that's coming from me being Chinese!). After decades of not having come here for a proper family sit-down meal, we decided to give it a go. We ordered an egg-drop soup, pan-fried noodles, lettuce wraps, sweet and sour fish, salt and pepper calamari, Peking spare ribs. Everything was okay, nothing amazing. There really aren't many terrific and better options in town, so in a pinch, Imperial Garden will have a to do.

Yelp
Food is plentiful! It was just ok. The sweet and sour pork was extremely fatty. If you are used to that then it's probably good. The noodle/chow mein was a combo of chow mein and chop suey. Just way too much food to eat. Shrimp was 90% batter and not cooked thoroughly. (To my taste). To their credit, everything was piping hot!! Service great. Just more authentic Chinese than I am used to. Husband loved the kung pao. White meat chicken and lots of it. Plus every veg in the kitchen!

Yelp
Quick service but overall just ok. Definitely have to say four seasons dim sum is the superior one around this area. Lots of food lacking the flavor and kind of had a weird texture like most of these things were cooked too long or left out for too long.

Yelp
We ordered online to go yesterday and received the food just after they opened. The general chicken was dry and tough and the worst we have ever had. The other entree was not good either - so soupy with the tomato based sauce that it was leaking out of the carton. We threw them both in the garbage. We ordered there because friends had told us it was the best in Fresno. I don't like leaving this review - it was the 1st negative review I've written.

Yelp
Was in town visiting my sister and family for LNY. Decided to come here for dim sum. There's a lot of parking spots within plaza but the location is a bit run down and other businesses are closed on a Sunday. They did not have a lot of round tables for big party so we were seated in the back with two combined square tables. We had to pass food back and forth. Not our best option but it is doable. This is considered a good spots to have dim sum with family in Fresno but it is mediocre for me. The best was the soy sauce chow mein with bean sprouts! What we ordered: pork dumplings, shrimp dumplings, chicken feet, bean curd rolls, steamed pork ribs, roast duck, roast pork, sticky rice wrapped in leaves, fried duck chins, braised pork blood, chives dumpling, salt n pepper squid, soy sauce noodles, egg tarts, and steamed buns.

Yelp
One thing you should know stepping into a Chinese restaurant is that... don't expect customer service to be amazing BUT you know the food will be good and cheap! My family was craving dimsum Sunday morning and we found this place that takes reservation for 8. Everything was super delicious that we got that it's pretty comparable to the Bay Area! Definitely check out this place if you can!

Yelp
Easily the best Chinese restaurant in Fresno. The 3 stars this place has on Yelp does not do this place justice. I saw a tik tok way back in 2022 (from a user called @rocketjump) that talked about the "3.5 star Chinese restaurant rule" - basically noting that some of the BEST authentic Chinese food you can have is at Chinese restaurants with 3.5 stars - and this marks true for this spot!!! My family and I have come here for YEARS, whether it be a birthday celebration or a night where we just wanna eat out, this is our go-to spot. Whether we dine in or get take out, we are always so satisfied. Everything they have is delicious. On weekends or holidays, this place can be pretty packed but service is efficient. Do not expect boujee service, this is by no means a Michelin star restaurant, but man the food is comforting and delicious so it's all worth it. Again, don't let the 3 star average fool you - place is gas! Some of the favorites my family loves is their chicken salad, salt and pepper pork chop, salt and pepper wings, hong kong style chow mein, hot and sour soup, green beans in xo sauce, and their peking duck. I honestly love all of their food here and don't think you can go wrong with anything! *** Note for any of the recent reviews or the people that stop by and notice the exterior near the front door is covered in wooden panels. A car crashed into the building so they have wood up for the time being :( ***

Yelp
Hubby and I were out and about running errands and decided to stop for dinner before heading home. We felt like eating noodles and we hadn't been to Imperial in years, so we decided to stop in and eat. Thursday 5:30pm We were seated right away as there were only three other tables with people. We noticed there were many phone orders, so people picking up at the front counter pretty constant while we were there. We ordered right away. Food came and I reminded the waitress I ordered shu mai. She said she would bring it back. It never came. We finished our meal and when she came to bring the check I reminded her that we didn't receive the shu mai. She began talking in Chinese to another woman. Instead of taking the item off the bill, someone brought out the shu mai in a TO GO box. That's fine. We took it home. I never ate it. Oh well. We won't go back any time soon.

Yelp
My family has been patrons of Imperial Garden for the last 15 years! When I tell you my dad is obsesssssed- I mean it. We get Imperial Garden a few times a month and it'll last us a couple days lol. This is a zero ambiance type of establishment, but they serve authentic chinese. Our favorite time to dine in is early on the weekends when they have fresh dim sum on the carts to pick from! We're excited to check out Imperial Garden #2 when they open next to RN market!! Our regulars are: Chinese chicken salad- dressing on side (yummyyyy) Chicken feet (so yummmyyy if you're down) Eggplant with pork Garlic string beans or garlic Chinese broccoli (yummy) BBQ pork buns (love) Ginger beef Steamed pork buns Whole fried flounder (yummy) Har kaw (shrimp dumpling) & shiu mai

Yelp
Last week my family and I stopped by this Imperial Garden location it is not easy to find good affordable Chinese food located in the Central Valley. We went inside order our food for take out the staff was very accommodating and efficient. The restaurant was clean on the inside and the outside. Their menu offers a large variety of food options. As a New Yorker Definitely recommend you check out their restaurant so delicious cuisine.

Yelp
First off I have to admit that I'm a little biased when it comes to imperial Garden restaurant. Meaning it hasn't changed since it originally opened that being said, there's something about familiarity that brings a level of comfort and enjoyment in a meal. It's kinda hard for me to even give an impartial review of the food since it it did taste exactly like how I would make it at home except I don't have to do any of the work. So when it comes to value compared to the prices these days I have to say that the value is definitely there , there's huge portions and when I go hungry, I always have enough leftovers to last me a couple days. Their sticky rice has always been one of my most favorite and still taste exactly the same as I remember. The beef stew, chow fun, used to be my all-time favorite. And in all my experiences imperial garden has been my benchmark to compare if it's really good or really bad chow fun. Another dish that is hard for me to pass up but I always regret are the clams with black bean sauce. Hard for me to pass up because I really love the black bean sauce, am I regrets is because I always eat too much and it's always too salty But that's what makes it taste so good. I'm also really happy with the menu where it's not overwhelming, but always seems to have everything that I want to eat.

Mollie T.

Yelp
The woman with spectacles there has a lot of attitudes. She is not courteous and kind of rude to the customers. I didn't leave a tip on the credit card slip, and I am glad I didn't leave a tip. It is a togo anyway, and she didn't deserve any tip, based on her overall behavior.

Nancy W.

Yelp
Have they cleaned this place up at all? We quit going because the floors were filthy. They looked like they hadn't been cleaned in months. All along the plastic baseboards they were black. The bathroom was nasty. We had numerous visits where the plates were not clean. The staff was not helpful or friendly. We moved on to a different restaurant.

Yelp
I'm not sure why the low ratings, my family and I really enjoyed this place and have gone plenty of times for both dine in and pick up orders! Dining in on the weekend gives you the full "dim sum" experience where they push the carts around for you and you just pick and choose what you'd like! The servers also place orders for you if they're not on the cart and they're decently quick with getting it to you! My favorite dishes are definitely the fried rice (any kind) and their garlic green beans. I can literally take those 2 items and just be done. I also end with a good sesame ball or two. But other items I really enjoy are the shumai, these steamed pork ribs?, the fried chicken wings, chow fun, and really just almost anything on the menu. Give it a try!

Yelp
The food is always amazing here, love their old Chinese dim sum ambiance. Service here is always quick and friendly staff. I usually stop at this place when I'm in town, it's my go to for dim sum. To me it's the only legit dim sum place in town that align with my taste bud. I gave it a four stars only because the food was great but not phenomenal enough to earn a five star! Love this place, go go go if you haven't gone! So sorry I have no photos, we went during my father's funeral and wasn't in the mood to take any photos. Please forgive me, when I'm back in town I'll update my review with photos!

Yelp
Food is good but they are up charging the bill this is against the law they did it a few time and when you confronted them they play dum and act like they don't no and still make you pay beware ..
google avatar

Estevan G.

Yelp
Food was quick, service was as usual, just get you in and out but the food had been on a decline ever since new management stepped in. Poor taste, no enjoyable texture. I would not return. RIP to the imperial garden I once knew.

E M.

Yelp
A favorite for many years! Great food! The honey walnut shine is one of my favorites. The dim sum is always a hit!

Marcos R.

Yelp
really kind waiters, fast. Tons of options, very reasonably priced. Went on mothers day and the ambiance was inviting and casual
google avatar

Yelp
I like the authentic Cantonese atmosphere of the restaurant and the crowds of people that come. Food, however, is ok/average. The Siu Mao has a good amount of pork fat. The noodles are salty. The pan fried seafood is oily and salty. It is an option in central valley but alright.

Lo M.

Yelp
Great food! Love the lazy Susan for family style food. Place is clean. They get the food to you in a timely manner. Staff is on top of drinks and napkins. Definitely has became our newest family dinner spot!!

Ivory V.

Yelp
Foods not that great, customers service not so well, no greets welcoming. Seating and table clean but the floor is not clean. I wouldn't recommend anyone to this place.

Kirsten C.

Yelp
I've been coming here for over 20 years and their food is delicious. But what I just saw disgusts me. I ordered to-go and went to use the restroom while I was waiting. In the restroom, a kitchen employee came out of the stall with one hand wearing a blue glove. She washed her hands with the glove on and went back to the kitchen. This makes me never want to come here again. Please correct this unsanitary practice or I will report the food safety violation.
google avatar

Lauren C.

Yelp
My family and I have been going to this place for years!!!! Like when I say years I mean that these servers have seen me grow up and know my parents names lol! If your looking for authentic dim sum (which is really hard to find in fresno and even surrounding areas) then this is the place to go. If you are looking for somewhere that will have amazing service, this is not for you. Authentic asian/chinese restaurants are all about being straightforward so even if the service is not the nicest, the food definitely makes up for it. I highly recommend!
google avatar

Cindy S.

Yelp
Best place in Fresno for Dim Sum. I love that it is served in the traditional way....They have a wide variety of options that are wheeled around on little carts and you just point at what you'd like. There is a piece of paper on the table that the server will use to keep track of everything ordered. Reliable choices are the potstickers (flavorful filling with a slightly too thick wrapper which makes for a chewier yet delicious option). The Ha gow is full of plump shrimp. Try the slurpy rice noodles, fresh hot sesame balls, Shu Mai and if they have them, the baked pork buns. There are lots of other things to choose from but these are our favorites. The Chinese chicken salad is also highly recommended--makes for a perfect light and easy dinner. Call it in and it usually takes no more than 10-15 minutes to be ready for pick up. The half size is more than large enough for one dinner sized serving. Service can be a little sassy....but that's just part of the charm.

Valerie C.

Yelp
I recommend coming with a large party as they have Lazy Susan's for meal sharing! Inside is pretty spacious and bright. Th vibrancy welcomes conversations with your party and wait staff. My table had a funny waitress that got us to try more foods! Great place to receive a bang for your buck as the portions are huge! I took my lunch special home for dinner and could not complain!
google avatar

Keith S.

Yelp
Some of the worst food my wife and I have ever had at a restaurant. The place is dingy and depressing. A lot of food for the money but none worth wasting your calories for.
google avatar

Yelp
I called in and ordered take out. I ordered orange chicken and chow mein. The woman taking my order on the phone was quick and said 15-20 minutes. Great. Then I asked her the total which was around $31. Got there after 20 minutes and the food was ready. The orange chicken was good and had bits of orange peel in it. The chow mein however was not good. The noodles were undercooked, still hard, and had lots of clumped noodles. There were a lot of veggies in the chow mein but it had a really heavy taste of canned, unwashed mushroom. It was off putting. Overall I was disappointed since I often come and sit down inside for their dim sum which is usually really good.

Hector M.

Yelp
Service was terrible I couldn't get a refill on my water until I asked for one. Waitress passed out food multiple times without asking me for more water while my cup was empty for awhile. Yes we did have 12 people in our group but if ur going to tip yourself $200 can u at least give out good service. She hardly checked on us we had to waive our hand to get her attention everytime. The only reason I come here for the portion of food but I can find somewhere else with better service.

Yelp
Over all great food, service, and ambiance. Food is flavorful. Great dim sum. I love their "ma po tofu" Shushan style.

Yelp
I'm from Los Angeles and didn't think there was not good Chinese food in Fresno..Very tasty food and great service
google avatar

Greg S.

Yelp
Although my lunch was good, it wasn't great and suffered from a dumbing down of the classic cashew chicken I'd ordered. 1) the cashews were not roast having that classic snap/crunch adding to the texture/flavor. They were raw, soft and thrown on not as the 'special ingredient' they should be. Yawn. 2) the chicken was larger thicker slices of tasteless, rubbery, chicken. Yet another ingredient not respected and lacking and preparation. Yawn, chew, YAWN. 3) the plate came with a mountain of white rice. 75% of which was thrown off the pate to be wasted. Ain't eating that! 4) The delightful ethic family letting their children run, crawl, bang into your chair and table repeatedly were anything but. Talking on speaker phones, playing games at the eating table, etc. Come on, I'm trying to eat here... 5) the chicken noodle soup was mush noodles with NO texture and way over cooked. And while I ate everything and didn't think it was the worse meal I'd had, it was sad to notice and miss the classic elements of this dish which should have been a simple classic dish representing some of the best of the culture. Big, thick, tough cuts of bland chicken were not welcomed. What happened to the care once taken to 'Velvet' the chicken making them tasty, soft and delicious? It was like a short cut version. The value was good but the quality lacked. Service was quick and efficient, friendly enough but something was missing from the past here... IF that's true of a simple dish like this, it's likely the same with everything up menu. Good, but not great and nothing you'd get excited about having again soon... -G

Yelp
A lot of history with this restaurant. One of the first authentic Chinese restaurants in Fresno and the surrounding areas, in my opinion. Still has delicious food and good service. Today I wanted to celebrate an early New Year's Day meal with my mom and Lana. We won't see each other for New Year's Day. We enjoyed a late lunch with some dim sum and some chow fun. The dim sum we ate was shu mai, sticky rice and pork, fried delicious, fried shrimp balls and some black bean spareribs. The shu mai was moist and flavorful with shrimp and pork in a thin wonton wrapper always a winner. The sticky rice and pork was tasty and moist with pieces of pork, shrimp and egg. The fried delicious its texture is crispy with a gumminess inner rice wrap with delicious pieces of pork and shrimp. The fried shrimp balls is crispy and moist within the shrimp balls and flaky pieces of won. The black bean spareribs is good with anything a rice killer. These are my picks for dim sum they're my must get when I'm in the mood for dim sum. The beef chow fun was delicious with stir fried bean sprouts and onions. Tender beef was very tender with the unique textures of rice noodles and crispy bean sprouts is a delicious treat to the dim sum we picked. A delicious early New Year's Day meal!!

Lila G.

Yelp
Customer service lacked, not friendly and didn't check up on us or refill our waters. Food was not good at all. The pot stickers were very greasy, no flavor and tasted liked they were microwaved. Chinese chicken salad was not fresh- the chicken was cold and rubbery. Tasted old. My water with lemon and fortune cookie were the only things that I actually enjoyed lol
google avatar

Yelp
I was looking for a place that serves good Chinese food and some co workers suggested this place. We came on a Saturday afternoon which wasn't too crowded. We were greeted and seated pretty quick. The waitresses weren't assigned one table they kind of all would take turns coming to your table. All were nice except one . She was pretty rude but I took it with a smile and was overly kind to her. I tried a couple things that I've never had before which were pork buns and sesame balls. I wasn't a fan of either. The porks buns had too much bread for me and the sesame balls were not tasty enough. I stuck to Orange chicken and fried rice which was pretty good. The fried rice was a bit bland but still edible. My friend got the Chow Mein dinner and she loved it. I gave this place 3 stars because yes it was good but not amazing and the rude waitress was not 4 star worthy.
google avatar

Sophie A.

Yelp
I can see why this place received three stars. The food is pretty standard and good. The service is quick but not as nice or friendly as you'd expect. If you can get past that, you should be fine. There are a few things we enjoyed here but we like other places as well. Their hot and sour soup is milder than most places. They also recommended the baked bao instead of the traditional steamed bao. The baked is much sweeter and has a honey glaze on top. The pork filling is also sweet and jellylike. Their chicken chow fun was very good with a nice smoky flavor.
google avatar

Peggy C.

Yelp
Sea bass is so good. You have to order the sea bass in advance BUT it is totally worth it. If you are looking for a vegetable dish consider the green bean with xo sauce.
google avatar

Jackson A.

Yelp
Good place to stop for dim sum on a Sunday morning right after church service. Opens at 1100am and the restaurant is nice quiet. With carts of dim sum on the carts, you just pick and choose what you want. Their menu is both visual and descriptive as to your food liking and preferences. Service is good and efficient. Your are charge per dish of dim sum and each plate has three of the items. There are other options as well for dim sum depending on your appetite ranging in prices from $3.59 to $7.69. The vegan chow fun was excellent in taste and flavor. Our friends order the duck soup with egg noodles. My dim sum selection was real tasty as well.
google avatar

Linda M.

Yelp
Awesome food and large portions. Love the har kow and sesame balls for dim sum. The honey walnut shrimp, Mongolian beef and all of the noodles are very good!

Blanca R.

Yelp
very rude staff !! they are extremely rude and condescending when speaking to customers
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
Food tasted OK, but not special. The fried food was overdone, too crunchy, some like rock. The broccoli was still raw in the cashew chicken. The fried rice dry with rubbery shrimp. The service was not deserving of a tip, nothing special, hard to communicate, hurried us out. Ambiance drab, nothing special

Yelp
Fresno has a secret! And you should know about it. The Imperial Garden is located in a little "strip mall" off of Blackstone. The ambiance may not be much to brag about, but oh, the food! There's a big menu of dim sum, which is fresh and yummy, and then a full menu of all your Chinese favorites. We LOVE this place for lunch. There's a very large selection on the "lunch special" menu, and your meal comes with a choice of soups and either fried rice, steamed rice or noodles. The sauces are rich and flavorful, and the vegetables are fresh and crisp. Last time there, (half hour ago!) we had Shrimp and Snow Pea and Kung Pao Chicken. Oh, my goodness was it good! The shrimp were large, fresh and well cooked, served with crisp snow peas, and the Kung Pao was delicious, with a ton of delectable chicken, mushrooms and vegetables, and a spicy thick sauce! And the portions are very large. We always end up taking half home for tomorrow. The service is quick and accurate, and the servers are very friendly. If you find yourself in the vicinity of Blackstone and Hearndon at meal time, do yourself a favor: stop in here.
