Google
This is definitely my favorite place to get Chinese food, i’ve tried quite a few places but Imperial Garden is by far the best. The food is amazing every time, the staff is very friendly and attentive, and the restaurant is quiet, clean, and relaxing ! it’s become my favorite date spot

Friday between 5pm and 5:30 was perfect for us. Was not busy, which was perfect for asking questions since this was our first time. The waitress was very nice and took our order with patience. The food came out fast and it was very tasty. We decided to order from the lunch specials, which were complete dinners. They just added 2 dollars more for dinner. The bill was very reasonable. I would go back.

The staff here is very hospitable! It’s the little things that make the best impressions — like ensuring our drinks were filled at all times, serving our soup to us, and boxing our left overs to take home. I tried the pork chow mein, curry chicken, mongolian beef, pot stickers, and the hot & sour soup. Everything was fresh and delicious. The restaurant is very clean and well kept, and the interior is beautiful. Thank you for being so kind during our dine in!

Google
They do a good job. Keep in mind that Buffets are difficult to keep fresh 1hr from closing. The Mgr assured me they are at the Peek of freshness early into the evening and that's cool . And It's an awesome buffet too. Eat/ drink up !!

Google
Eat there at your own risk. My wife and I enjoyed the food and were pleased by the consistency of quality but I usually feel bad after eating there and on many of occasions need to use the restroom. I never knew why until today. While I was on my way to the washroom, I noticed the kitchen door was cracked. The pictures I’m adding to this post is what I saw… raw chicken left out and next to cooked chicken on the floor. I couldn’t stomach to see the rest of the kitchen, or take pictures.

Google
As a family we eat together and all 6 of us was not happy with the taste of the food. Most of it was thrown out. Sad.

Google
Most great Chinese joints actually have, Chinese people bring family friends and business meetings to their favorite Chinese restaurants. Not the case here in Modesto the big MO where restaurants businesses go to die in the last 20 years. The Trump economics is start a restaurant serving the community great food and after a year serving gut rot like 🐼 Panda express. And pass it off as a great dinning experience. There are better choices you just have to dig a little bit deeper. This restaurant I don't recommend

Google
I'm always looking for some really great Chinese food so I placed an order of 8 items for delivery. When I went to eat the food it was bland and tasted like it was old especially the dried out barbecue pork. One of the worst Chinese food I've had in Modesto. You're better off eating at Panda Express.

Yelp
Great Lunch Special! I like the Mongolian Beef but have enjoyed other options. (Prawns) I've been enjoying their food for about 30 years... more than half my life... you can trust this place!

Yelp
Everything and everyone is always great! Delicious food, friendly service and best of all, FAST!

Yelp
I ordered bbq pork fried rice without vegetables. My first bite was, whoa! That's a lot of MSG! The bbq pork has a very good flavor to it. I added a little salt and it was a little better. Over all, not bad. They brought this out first. I ordered the honey walnut shrimp which came about 5 minutes later. I wish they brought it out together. The shrimp had a good flavor, however it was not sweet enough for me. You could taste the honey in the sauce. Again, I like mine a little sweeter. It was made to order as the coating was crispy. After a while the batter got mushier than I would like. I also liked that they took the time to glaze their walnuts. I just came from Chinatown in San Francisco yesterday and batter on that shrimp was perfect. It should be lightly battered and should not lose its crunch. You can tell they double fried the shrimp. Overall, I liked both dishes. If you like American Chinese food. This is the place for you. I might actually eat the leftovers in the hotel!

Yelp
This is and has been my favorite Chinese food place for many, many years. I absolutely love their fried prawns. My niece just moved out of state, and she said they don't have fried prawns where she lives, and one thing she missed and wanted was Imperial Garden fried prawns. We made a double order because her me and my dad all planned to destroy them, and we did. We didn't take any home, haha. Pro tip: get the hot tea. It pares perfectly with the Chinese food. I add 2 packs of sugar to each cup of tea. I can't get enough of that tea. Pro tip: asl for extra sweet and dour sauce for each individual that likes it. So everyone had their own dipping sauce, and you don't have to worry about double dipping. The sweet and sour sauce isn't just good for dipping your fried prawns, I also like to pour it on my fried rice. My go-to order is fried prawns, a must. Chicken, beef, or shrimp fried rice, either one is great, I like to switch it up. Same with chow mein, chicken, beef, or shrimp. Then either beef and broccoli or Mongolian beef. And almost always get the cream cheese wontons. We usually have leftovers for lunch the next day. If you live close enough for delivery. I love that they deliver in-house, and you don't have to use an app and pay extra fees. In my opinion, it is still the best option for all-around Chinese food experience in the Modesto area. I do prefer orange chicken from another restaurant (Grand Asia, in Riverbank), but they are still my favorite to date. If you haven't been and you live here, shame on you. Now go and enjoy. Tell them I sent you, and they will say, who? Haha

Yelp
Placed delivery order around $52.00. I thought I ordered bbq pork fried rice. My error as I recd pork fried rice. Also ordered shrimp egg foo young (ordered twice before always delicious), no shrimp within the pancake just tossed on top with peas, carrots brown gravy. Pancake was tasteless. No spices etc at all. So will need to bbq the pork strips to jazz up the rice. The pancake will give to dogs. Will give this restaurant a rest.

Yelp
All the food i ordered on doordash is super old. From like this morning old. Soggy wontons. Soggy chicken. Old chow mein. Old rice. Here are the pictures of the food i recieved

Yelp
The best in town. The food is always great the service is top notch the ambience is relaxing and beautiful. Very authentic

Yelp
Excellent food but please note on the internet that you're CLOSED ON TUESDAYS! Nothing like driving all the way here just to be disappointed.

Yelp
I hadn't been to this place in years and decided to give it another shot, but I regret wasting $60 on takeout. I ordered Orange Chicken, Beef with Broccoli, Vegetable Chow Mein, and Hot Braised Pork--and every single dish was a letdown. The Orange Chicken was soggy with a strange aftertaste. The Hot Braised Pork was the worst --ground up into something that looked more like meat noodles than actual pork. It was completely unrecognizable and unappetizing. The Vegetable Chow Mein had almost no vegetables in sight. The Beef with Broccoli....the sauce was watered down with almost no flavor. Everything tasted like it had been diluted and forgotten in the seasoning department. Won't be going back.

Jose A.

Yelp
Food was so good. Honey walnut prawns are delicious. And the wonton soup has so much flavor. Put it on your list.

Yelp
First off this is prob the best Chinese food in Modesto hands down !! I've eaten here 3 times and every time I have it's been a hit the service was also outstanding and very professional the or he chicken stays crispy the rice is amazing the peppered pork chops are just omg and wonton soup is phenomenal filled with juicy shrimp and even the veggies are amazing very good place my fav

Scott Z.

Yelp
The food and service was good, but I found the way they charged for rice to be very unreasonable. I went with my parents, so it was the three of us, but they charged rice for the equivalent of six people, so it was $15 for the three of us. Does that make any sense? They shouldn't have done this just because we wanted a refill on the rice! Their dishes also had too many garnishes.

Yelp

Yelp
We would come every once in a while, but never again. $72 and some change down the drain. We got spicy green beans, shredded ginger beef, Hong Kong pan fried noodles, and honey walnut prawns. Absolutely no flavor! I literally thought I was coming down with a cold, but my partner said it was extremely bland also. I'm not the type of person to add salt to a dish, but when a person goes back THREE times for salt... ya bland! I wasn't going to post, but after eating some leftovers and throwing out what i just heated up... I gotta speak up. What the hell guys? Who ever is in the kitchen... get ''em the heck out before you sink.
google avatar

Jacque G.

Yelp
Was in the area, Ordered the honey walnut prawns lunch combo and it was $18 for soup, fried rice and won ton strips (2). No flavor to their dishes a little salt goes a long way. Couldn't taste the flavor on the prawns. The prawns were big but I don't think I'd go back

Yelp
All the things you traditionally find on the menu of a Chinese restaurant: Beef & Broccoli, Fried Rice, Chow Mien, Potstickers, Sweet & Sour, etc. We had the Chicken Fried Rice, Beef & Broccoli & Imperial Chow Mien. YUM! The chow mien was my favorite. They use these nice thick noodles that give a little more "chew" than most chow miens. Plus, the sauce they use is lighter in flavor, making for a well-balanced taste. Definitely want to come back to try some other things on the menu. I'll let you know which one's my favorite.

Yelp
Don't risk your life. I got super sick from them like 3 days ago and I plan to call a lawyer. Apparently they store raw food and cooked food on the floor

Lynette B.

Yelp
Delicious food, great service. Always have our favorites....salt and pepper chicken wings, spicy green beans, rice and sweet and sour pork. I've also tried the mango chicken , as well as the egg foo young...very good. Ambiance is nice and always clean.

Yelp
A hole in the wall? Not really, a Gem in this small busy Asian neighborhood yes! Perfect spot for some scrumptious Dim Sum made with fresh seafood and taste so authentic I m giving this place 5 stars for having their own parking lot, the food and the biggest most creative Vegan Dim Sum menu. I love meat and not a Vegan but this restaurant specializes in seafood dishes but apparently they have a good vegetarian vegan plant based Dim Sum menu for all you Vegan folks out there. I tried the impossible rice rolls and their vegan chive dumplings and it was incredible even for a meaty mouth like mine. Now the regular dim sums was fresh hot so plump and tasty this is actually my second time eating their dimsum and it still Did not disappoint. Always authentic and flavorful. They also serve a lot of fresh seafood dishes, and I saw $24 for Dungeness crab over noodles as their special this month! Wow. Go get some ASAP! The best part is they don't charge corkage fees for BYOB... so oh my lord...I am bringing a couple bottles next time!

Sam H.

Yelp
We have been eating here for years and loved the food here? However in the last 6 months the quality of food has gone down considerably? No flavor & fried rice dishes were very salty? Time to make a change?

Yelp
One of my go to places nearby service is very attentive, fast, and polite. I love their Mongolian chicken and beef definitely recommend

Yelp
We used to order from Imperial Garden all the time and it was good. We ordered on the Wednesday after Christmas, some fried rice, honey walnut shrimp, kung pao and a few other items. The chicken friend rice was not it. It was flavorless, the chicken and rice were still white-ish in color and it was just so bland. It seemed almost like there was no chicken even in the fried rice, which was a bummer as we had been craving Chinese food for the longest but seemed like Dynasty was closed. We settled. The honey walnut shrimp was good and I guess the Kung Pao wasn't terrible.. our biggest issue was the friend rice cause it was always a fan fave.. maybe don't be stingy on the amount of chicken you put in and make it more flavorful, lol.

Les J.

Yelp
This restaurant is the top five worst Chinese restaurant in Modesto. This is my second time at this particular restaurant, and I was disappointed both times, spending well over $200. Most of the food ended up in the garbage can. The chicken meat tastes old and the chicken chow mein is dry when they put it in the carton they put the vegetables on the bottom and the noodles on the top instead of mixing it all together as one dish. All of the meat tasted as though it was two or three days old, I come from a big family I know what leftovers taste like! Instead, Go to Bamboo Chinese Restaurant in Salida, it's an old school Cantonese restaurant the prices are very reasonable and the food is fresh and hot. It's a little drive out of the way but it's well worth your dollar.

Yelp
The service is always good. Pleasant atmosphere, not too bright or loud. The food is why I gave it two stars. I just feel the flavor of the food has gone downhill. I've given it multiple second chances, because this use to be my favorite Chinese food place. But as of now, I'm going to have to start looking elsewhere.

Bradley L.

Yelp
The tip was automatically added. We are a party of two, so not a large party at all. I would have left a tip and it would have been more than they automatically took. Bye bye Imperial Garden

Judith J.

Yelp
We've been to many different Chinese restaurants in Modesto and my husband is picky he actually liked the food here. I just want to compliment on the fried rice here it's delicious and just perfect. When I called to order the person working was accurate and friendly and he was the same in person.

Yelp
I was really happy to try this place as I've never been here & it's always fun discovering new eats locally. food was very fresh and delicious. service was fast and very attentive staff. Portions are big and it was so nice they made a 1/2 order of the spicy green beans. So for that.. I'm giving an extra star! Not all of us like a ton of leftovers. This restaurant is very clean and decor was very nice for the space. The only thing that I would add is to have music playing in the background to cover up how quiet it is in the open dining area. Definitely will be back. Jenny was very sweet and I wish I would have gotten the name of our server as she was very attentive and plenty of smiles:)
google avatar

Andrea F.

Yelp
Been going here for years and I still love the food and service so much. Some of my favorite dishes are the Hong Kong style pan fried noodle. The sauce is delicious and the noodles are cooked perfectly. The house chicken is an elevated orange chicken and it the perfect combination of sweet and tangy. The Mongolian beef is a bit spicy but really tasty. Everything is really good so definitely recommend going!
google avatar

Darlene G.

Yelp
I give it one star, because it had a door to the restaurant. To serve customers leftover foods again as fresh is so wrong.
google avatar

Eric M.

Yelp
This may be the only authentic Chinese restaurant in the entire valley. I knew it was going to be great as soon as I saw they had roast duck on the menu. And to think, I was about to wait 45 minutes at Olive Garden for fake Italian food. Choose the better garden.
google avatar

Krizia S.

Yelp
Best family owed Chinese in town, been going since 07' and they continue keeping up with their amazing food and prices, i love the atmosphere and vibe

Yelp
So I normally love this place. I really love their west lake soup. However today's visit wasn't so good. I think I know why. The wife ordered the normal plates to include sweet and sour pork and orange chicken. Well the pork and chicken to me had a funny taste. A very noticeable funny taste. Well a bathroom trip and an open door to the kitchen might have explained why the pork and the chicken tasted funny. These items must be pre-made left in a tub and then flashed fried when served. To me it did tasted like it was reheated. Take a look at the picture. A container full of these fried foods. Now to me that is not good. That to me is pure laziness. Made sense why these items tasted off. Like I said this is not the norm for this place. Please get back to making delicious food. As for the fried rice, chow mien and the west lake soup, delicious.

Bobo Z.

Yelp
We came into town to visit a relative and wanted something relatively light and healthy. Despite the menu and seeing most customers ordering fried rice and pan fried noodles, everyone working there seemed to understand what we wanted when we ordered steamed fish and Chinese greens with mushrooms. The fish turned out perfectly cooked and the veggies were light and tasty.
google avatar

Anthony B.

Yelp
I don't normally leave bad reviews but I went a few nights ago to celebrate my sisters birthday, there wasn't too many Chinese food options in Modesto, I normally go out of town for good Chinese food but it was a Sunday last minute and this was open so decided to give it a try...let me just say we were pretty disgusted by the food and we stopped eating we ordered a lot of different plates and the food didn't smell so great...the sweet and sour pork didn't taste like it should it was a bit odd..I love beef and broccoli but this beef did not taste good either it was something else or it was spoiled because it left a nasty taste in my mouth and I kept burping it all night and felt like vomiting each time because I would taste it lol there was kung pao chicken and chicken and vegetables and the chicken didn't taste like chicken lol The tab was $200 and I still left a $20 tip just because it's how I usually am, anyways id avoid this place I will never go again hope I can save somebody some money
google avatar

Yelp
The food is excellent super friendly staff a large area to dine in extra nice menu with lots to choose from I recommend Dinner Combinations all so delicious

Yelp
The best Chinese food around. Family from all over the west coast want imperial garden when they come to visit. Best Honey Walnut Prawns you'll have

Yelp
Ok...so new to town and you know how it is...gotta look for good Chinese, like...you like it - so, off to Imperial Gardens we go. Wife's birthday and we're desperately hoping for a great experience with 12 year old grandson in tow who is anxious to get a dig on the sweet n sour chicken. Decided to try a couple of our favorites and see where we were at with "The Gardens" - hope this helps - on a 1-10 scale to how we like it Sweet n Sour chicken delicious on the first glance - nice plate full for us 3 - perfectly lathered with sweet sauce - nice amount of vegetables - onions and carrots and bell pepper ... carrots were in longer 3"strips and coulda been cooked a little more.....but dood...where's the pineapple chunks for that sweet n savory bite? A lot of the pieces were fried batter with no chicken - dang it!! Tasty but no awesome bite ! 5.5 out of 10 Vegetable chow Mein - we'll done here, noodles were awesome, firm to the bite, not starchy and nice flavor - perfect amount of veggies (coulda been cut smaller) yet cooked perfectly - not mushy/soggy - found myself going for that infamous 3 rd helping 8.5 outta 10 here Egg foo yung - ok.. everyone has their own interpretation on a recipe, we've had our share of Chinese around the country and....this is the furthest from vegetable egg foo yung we've ever seen or tasted. First glance - a soup gravy with peas on top.....hmmm... was looking for that well-textured patty with the overlay of sauce/gravy ...mmmm. This was soup- like gravy smathered with peas, mushy eggs (not patty) with no texture - good flavor but nowhere near any egg foo yung we'e ever tasted - in our opinion this gets a 3 outta 10....the flavor saved it from being below a 3 for us. Fried rice (veggie) - lacked that fried rice (fried texture and flavor) - was flat and we just considered it brown rice which required the "double take on the soy sausage to get through it and needed to mix it with the other dishes for taste - 4.5 outta 10 Each dish around $13.50 each on the average - out the door for about $70 after tip Service very good - 8 outta 10 For us - probably not a second trip back but we gave it a shot overall for us? 5.5 outta 10 Our search continues

Yelp
Dine in only will never get takeout again. Second time ordered takeout and was given what seemed like yesterday's leftovers. Dry meat, what was suppose to be chicken chow mean had 3 different meats in it. It was awful.
google avatar

Camille C.

Yelp
I've been going to Imperial Garden since I was little (over 15 years). The food is good, service is 8/10, and the ambience is how I always remembered it. Love that they speak Chinese. The only reason for 3 stars is that sometimes the food and service is a hit or miss. In my opinion that just makes it a little more authentic but for the price, I'd appreciate more consistency

Zidders R.

Yelp
I haven't lived in Modesto since 2003 but when i lived there Imperial Garden was THE best place to go for Chinese food. Their crab rangoons were to DIE for. Just keep in mind my review is based on the food they served 21 years ago and might not reflect its current quality. I would say it's worth checking out, though.
google avatar

Dina R.

Yelp
Food is amazing, we had delivered. It was perfect and fast. So you could basically say that the service is very good.

Susan K.

Yelp
Had dinner here with a group of friends. Very good service and delicious food with large portions. Friendly atmosphere!! Good price!! Will be our "Go To" Chinese Restaurant.
google avatar

Refugio R.

Yelp
It was good, not great. We dined in last night and ordered won ton soup, sesame chicken, chicken chowmein, and honey shrimp. The chowmein was, in my opinion, wack wasn't fresh at all. The wonton soup was wack as well, with no flavor at all. Giving this place 3 stars only because of the sesame chicken and walnut shrimp we're very, very tasty and fresh. Service was great waitress we're very attentive. I wasn't cool with the xtra service fee they charged but not the end of the world.

John J R.

Yelp
Food was bland meaning it had no taste at all. Service? We waited and waited and waited. Tabel of 8 of us. Take out food was never put into a carry out bag untill the lady noticed it was leaking all over my new shirt and slacks ( washed and cam out) your lucky. It used to be very good, New chef? Step it up or close
google avatar

Ricardo S.

Yelp
The food is good and plenty, they have an issue with charging a "service charge of 15%" it doesn't say TIP included so people not being aware will double tip. I'm not a fan of "Nickel n Dime"
google avatar

Z G.

Yelp
We visited and decided to dine in for dinner. The service was excellent, the two servers managed full dining area. The dining area was clean and the tables were cleared immediately after each use. Our main entre was the beef chow fun. This traditional noodle plate did not disappoint. In fact, most restaurants have have difficulty maintaining the right texture without compromising the overall flavor. Long story short this restaurant "got it right". The second plate was the house garlic chicken with veggies. Good but we asked for spicy and it was mild. For a two people our dinner was $40 which included gratuities. Overall impression: go for your favorite entre and if inclined try the chow fun noodles
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Ordered our dinner for pickup and it was ready in about 10-15 minutes. Really savory food with good flavor. Loved the prawns! They put a good amount of walnuts as well. One of our favorite Chinese food restaurants in Modesto. Ordered about 5 dishes for $75. Not sure if that's too pricey or a fair amount but it was tasty.
google avatar

Ben L.

Yelp
they used to be really good and it seems like something change on chef side if things. this was bland and check the onions on this dish
google avatar

Brenda M.

Yelp
So disappointed! Food and service are great but I just found out they charge a 15% service fee (aka tip) that they do not tell you about. They then charge tax on the food and the service fee. Which I believe is illegal. Then most customers add an additional tip not knowing they have already been charged the service fee! So the restaurant gets tips between 30-35% because the customer will is unaware of the service fee!! Oh and you do not get the soup or appetizers if you order it to be delivered by an outside source but you pay the same amount! Be AWARE CUSTOMERS!
