Montreal’s Best Portuguese Chicken Spots | Eater Montreal

"Diners looking for an easygoing, crowd-pleasing place to grab a meal with family and friends should consider heading to Imperio on Jarry East. The Portuguese grill prepares a variety of staples, including bitoque (a steak topped with a fried egg), garlicky shrimp, and, of course, some mouth-watering piri-piri chicken. Though an excellent bet for sit-down meets, takeout and delivery (via Uber Eats) are also options." - Valerie Silva

The Best Portuguese Restaurants in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Mountainous chicken and seafood platters come highly recommended at this small Villeray spot, but if you really want to order up something classic, try Imperio’s carne de porco à alentejana: A mound of pork marinated in white wine and garlic, served up with salty clams." - JP Karwacki

Sure! Here's a 5-star review you can use for Imperial Grill Restaurant in Montreal: --- ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Hidden Gem in Montreal! Imperio Grill absolutely exceeded my expectations! From the moment I walked in, the warm ambiance and friendly staff made me feel right at home. The food was phenomenal — perfectly grilled meats, rich flavors, and beautifully presented dishes. I especially recommend the grilled octopus— it was cooked to perfection! Service was attentive without being intrusive, and the whole experience felt both upscale and relaxed. Whether you're going for a date night or a gathering with friends, this place hits the mark. Can’t wait to go back!

The sardines, octopus, and calamari were tender and nicely grilled. The plates had the best quality vegetables, and the potatoes were perfectly done. From appetizers to dessert it was such a pleasure to dine here, and I would happily recommend this restaurant.

We got the seafood platter for two for around 80$. The platter was very generous and everything was very well cooked and seasoned except for the salmon that was a bit on the drier side. The rice that came with it was a bit bland but with the salty seafood it came out balanced. We also got a few cocktails and drinks which were good. It took quite a bit for the platter to come out, but other than that the service was good, our waitress was very friendly and helpful. Will definitely get back! Good quality price for the food with generous portions.

My husband and I ordered the grilled squid platter and grilled cod. Both dishes were delicious; tasty and grilled to perfection. Also, portions are generous. Service warm and friendly. I will definitely return.

Imperio Portuguese Grill in Montreal is a cozy and authentic restaurant that's a must-visit for anyone seeking traditional Portuguese cuisine. One standout dish is the Portuguese chicken, made with tender, juicy chicken marinated in special spices and grilled to perfection. Served with crispy fries and a fresh salad, it's a flavorful and satisfying meal. The restaurant also offers other exceptional dishes, like succulent grilled octopus and mouthwatering seafood rice. With friendly service and rustic decor, Imperio Portuguese Grill is the perfect spot for a romantic dinner or night out with friends

An excellent experience! The restaurant has a great vibe to it. The food is authentic and delicious. There are many choices on the menu from appetizers to seafood to meats and chicken. Mike was an amazing host, who was friendly, professional and knew his stuff. I’m looking forward to returning as soon as I can!

Great Portuguese chicken. The whole menu is delicious. Our place of choice for lunch meetings. One of the rare places with parking in Montreal. Service is also great and friendly.

Yelp
Delicious! as other reviewers said the food does take a long time to come out, but its piping hot and super fresh so you decide if the wait is worth it. We got the half grilled chicken with that amazing sauce, and salad & fries, grilled seafood platter for one (fish, calamari, octopus, shrimps, mussels, clams, salmon (this could feed 2). We didnt realize how big the portion and ordered the grilled octopus as well, the waitress did stop us from ordering more. Very nice, friendly ppl. The location is a little out of the way but it's a nice, large restaurant. Overall, worth it for a lazy weekend when not in a rush.

Yelp
Really flavourful and juicy meats. The sauce to dip wings in was delicious. Ribs were juicy and seemed a little bone-y but had a good amount of meat on them. Pastel de nata were very liquid, underwhelming.

Yelp
We've been coming here for a few years now, it's among the better Portuguese chicken joints around. The menu offers other, traditional choices but the treat here is the grilled chicken. You can spice to taste - we get extra hot and love it. The mild, regular serving seems very bland, at least to my palette. They offer delivery - but only sporadically. If you do manage to get it, you're going to wait an hour+ even if you're in the neighborhood. The interior is cozy enough with ample seating on large tables. Even though it's a big space, I've only ever seen one server to run all the tables. Service can be slow. All in all a very good meal of you're not rushed. The big downside is that prices have nearly doubled in the last 3-4 years. As an example, their popular family special (1.5 chicken, salad and fries) used to run roughly $35, it's now pushing $60. Dining in is always pricier for larger groups, they gouge you with drinks. Still, it's worth the wait but the prices are getting tough to justify. There seems to be a lot of turnover so maybe it's mismanaged. A shame because the food has been consistently good. Still, if you're looking for very good Portuguese chicken, don't mind the wait and higher prices, this is your spot. There are other options in the city but for the area, it's as good as it gets.

Yelp
After I finished dinner with my girlfriend I accidentally omitted to leave a tip so the waiter ( or owner not sure) come to me with a thug attitude and told me in front of my girlfriend and other clients and I should leave a tip and kept rudely and aggressively interrupting me when I was trying to explain it was an accident. It ruined the whole experience! Hospitality is the first product of a restaurant and they failed with the basics, this I why I don't recommend anyone to go there

Yelp
Absolutely an amazing place to eat. The food is the delicious, the staff is awesome. Chicken and Bifanas are the bomb. Try the Octupus also, grilled to perfection. Don't miss out on this place. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
It's a staple in the neighbourhood and has continued to be through covid19. The piri piri chicken is grilled to perfection and the fries are absolutely delicious. My only complaint would be they're not very generous with the piri piri sauce. I need my extra dose of piri piri for Portuguese chicken and that's where it loses the last star. We ordered calamari from here as well and it was pretty good. Overall if you're in the mood for Portuguese Chicken, you can't go wrong.

Yelp
Fav sit down Portuguese chicken grill. They have generous portions of meat which is cooked over a charcoal grill. The meat or seafood platters are a great way to try what they have to offer. They have 5-7 specials on beers and only offer paella on Saturdays so get there early before they run out.

Yelp
Fantastic food with fantastic customer service. I recommend the pork with clams and the portugese tiramisù.

Yelp
Great food at a reasonable cost. Our group of four people made a second visit the other day and were impressed as in the first time. It was agreed that the chicken brochette was the star dish on the menu. We'll be sure to be back again when this present health crisis passes.

Yelp
Didn't know about this neighborhood Portugese restaurant until I got too lazy to drive more than 5 minutes from home. Good food and warm ambiance. People serving and dining are relaxed and festive. Grill could get smoky so dress relax too so you don't stress on smelling like BBQ. Overall experience would keep me coming back!
