18 Best Pancakes in Boston | Eater Boston

"This Waltham breakfast-and-lunch joint is known for its extreme pancake stacks. The regular menu is packed with options, such as chocolate chip cookie dough pancakes (filled with cookie dough) and candy-filled varieties (Snickers, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and more), but there are also rotating specials, such as the Bam Bam Fruity Pebbles Extreme Cakes (a triple stack of Fruity Pebbles pancakes stuffed with Fruity Pebbles sweet cream cheese and topped with cereal milk buttercream icing, Fruity Pebbles garnish, and powdered sugar)." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

First time, won’t be the last. Cool atmosphere. Fun menu. Flynn was great- attentive and pleasant. Though he seemed a bit shocked by how quickly I put away the Toro Loco Burger! We’ll definitely be back

While the service was good and the staff were helpful and friendly, the food itself was okay, not the best in my opinion. Inside the restaurant had this not-so-pleasant smell and we decided to sit outside (which is nice that they have that option.) We ordered French toast and The Ringer. The portions were good, but the French toasts had no crispy edge at all, and no texture contrast. It might be that it was my first time and this dish is just not their specialty. But I had higher expectations given how popular they are.

Google
Such a fun place! Great for singles, family's and kids! The breakfast menu is extensive with some of the coolest options you will ever find. I started off my meal with a bloody Mary, and then chased it with the hot honey chicken and waffles. The best surprise was finding the real chunks of bacon cooked into the waffle. We also ordered a panini with fries and the pumpkin bread French toast- yum yummy YUM! I wish I had more room in my stomach to try the other sandwiches and breakfast dishes, but since I didn't, I'll be back!!

Julia Donahue

Google
Everything was fantastic! We had a hard time deciding what to order due to the menu being so extensive but decided sweet and savory was the way to go. Our sever Jenna was very attentive. Overall a great experience!

Google
We came here on accident as the other place we were trying to go was closed. We were beyond thrilled. Food and service were beyond amazing. Will definitely be back. Some of the items are a little adventurous but there is something for everyone. Prices were fair as well. Go there you won't be disappointed.

Google
I thought the restaurant was great and the servers were friendly but the host not so much. This was my first time there and I had no idea you had to scan to join a wait-list. They just stood there and expected us to know what to do. Then we asked if we could be seated they said you need to scan the QR code before we could be seated. The food was good but nothing amazing. I think the over the top items on the menu are a big draw but the taste is average. I would recommend everyone give it a try and see what they think for themselves. If you like crunchy waffles, this is not the place for you. The waffles are very light and airy.

Donna Finn

Google
Service was fast and extremely friendly and attentive thanks to da-Sean?. We got Chicken and waffles and a turkey panini. It was on expensive side but nice to have something creative where they didn’t stick to the normal boring pallet but placed sauce on the side of the waffles which was interesting and delicious. Thank you

Google
The food was fantastic and so was the service. Flynn was our server, he had a great personality, professional, and very hospitable. Congrats on becoming a father Flynn! Thanks for making my husband’s birthday breakfast extra special with the birthday pickle! Great food, HUGE portions, very fresh. You’ll definitely leave full for the day!

Yelp
i came up last weekend to watch a game at fenway. it was my first time at the park and it was a great game. we capped off the great weekend with some great breakfast. i'm pretty easy when it comes to food the rest of the day but a good breakfast is non-negotiable. In A Pickle had that. the food was delicious with so many option. i love a place that lets you have some savory food with a side of a pancake or french toast. not only was the food good, but the service was top tier as well. if im back in boston again id come back PS i left my wallet by accident and the great management staff went out of their way to help me get it back. they're incredible all around

Yelp
3 stars might be a little too generous but the food was ok just not amazing. Both of us were underwhelmed with our orders. If you do decide to go here, you can add your name in advance to a waitlist. They will only seat complete parties, though.

Yelp
we were in town to tour bentley. needed breakfast on a saturday. we were told a 15 min wait. we didn't get any fancy french toast which was $20 a plate. we just all wanted eggs, bacon, toast home fries. it was OK. actually the home fries were very bland. no salt and pepper on them. coffee was not horrible but not good.

Yelp
In A Pickle does know how to make someone's day, even when it's hot! We walked past the place and they were handing out free chocolate and vanilla ice cream for both their customers and those just passing through. Very friendly staff & made our day :) Been here before, but definitely make us want to go back for more.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent service and charming staff. Food was way too salty tho! Cut down on that salt chefs!

Yelp
In A Pickle is a bit tourist trappy, but still a must visit if you're visiting Waltham. We ended up getting their hot chicken & waffles which were okay. I wish it was a fried chicken thigh instead of some dry chicken tenders. I enjoyed their strawberry pancakes more - they were fluffy and served with plenty of fresh strawberries & cream. Service is rather slow, but the waitress was very nice. Overall, a fun experience but definitely a bit overhyped. It's probably because most of their featured dishes are loaded with tons of things and their portions are massive. If you're looking for instagrammable brunch dishes, this is the place to be.

Yelp
First time here and we are really amazed at the menu.....Absolutely fantastic Pumpkin bread French toast!!!
google avatar

Mike L.

Yelp
Good breakfast spot with a large menu. The specialty pancakes and French toast appear to be what they are most known for. I got the ringer with caramel crunch French toast. It came with 2 eggs, meat, homefries, and a full order of French toast. It costed extra to upgrade to a specialty so it ended up being over $25 which I thought was expensive but it was a lot of food and everything tasted good so it was worth it. I was especially impressed by how fast the kitchen was. The restaurant was filled with a 30 min wait and the food came out in probably under 5 minutes. I think this was the fastest breakfast service I've ever had.

Yelp
TLDR: was featured on diners drive ins and dives That's all you need to know. Food is hearty. Staff is friendly. Yes there are gimmicks, but some days you want some god damn Oreos in your waffles with special syrup drizzled on top and 5 chicken tenders with honey mustard sauce.

Yelp
" A rainbow of joy " The food is so good at this location. We had the waffles , pancakes and chicken fingers . On the menu it has items that will satisfy any craving or comfort food heaven, as I call it . The service is amazing . It's a whole vibe . I would say it's like walking into a " rainbow " of joy . I love the atmosphere. So take a break from the world and come to this little center of joy . I will definitely be back many times over . Parking is street and metered for the most part . Please read the signs before parking .

Yelp
I often eat lunch here during the week. But this was my first breakfast experience. The Burro Burrito was definitely a delight. Highly recommended, as long as you love onions! The other delightful part of the experience was the server Susan O, who managed to keep all her customers happy, and even to engage in conversations, on a busy Saturday morning. Kudus to management for attracting and keeping great service staff.

Yelp
Serving size was good but I think it's a little tourist trappy. Good to go once in a while. The hot honey chicken and waffles were ok (their hot honey is Tabasco based). I would go to Friendly Toast over this. The home fries from the omelet dish were very very salty.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this place for brunch. I got a burrito and a Bloody Mary which were both really good. I came during a non busy day so we were able to be seated right away. They do not take reservations but you can be put on a waitlist and see how many parties are infront of you. The place was small and very clean. There were many booths so a small group can be accommodated.

Yelp
We visited In a Pickle earlier today. I liked the experience overall. We started with two decaf coffees and had a waffle with whipped cream and a classic burger. The waffle was not crisp but like a Belgian waffle that was made with pancake batter. Overall it was an unexpected texture, light but soft, but quite tasty. The burger was served with cheddar, lettuce and tomato, and had fries on the side. The burger was pleasant, and the fries were great, very crispy and right out of the fryer. Overall we both enjoyed the meal and will return.

Yelp
My favorite thing about In A Pickle is how eclectic their menu is! Some of the prices are a little high but the portions are generally pretty big so its worth it! The service is great and the ambiance is just that of your typical breakfast place. I had the ringer with poached eggs, bacon, and nutella french toast. I was imagining something different as stuffed french toast but it was basically just french toast with some nutella smeared between. Still tasty though! The bacon was perfectly crispy and I do wish the potatoes were crisper. My poached eggs were served in a small bowl and were cooked great, but were swimming in water which I didnt love. I overall enjoyed my brunch and I ordered the cinnamon toast crunch chicken and waffles home for my fiance and that was absolutely delicious.

Bruce H.

Yelp
I can't believe ordered a basic two eggs over easy. with bacon and home fries and 2 silver dollar pancakes- coffee and maple syrup (an extra $3!) and it cost $30!! And the pancakes were cold, the home fries were burnt and cold and I wont go back. a real disappointment!
google avatar

Mel G.

Yelp
I recently checked this place out for brunch takeout, and thought the eggs benedict were on point. The hollandaise sauce was delicious, as was all else on the actual eggs benedict--and the homefries were also tasty. Yum! As to be expected, on a Sunday, it was totally packed and quite hectic, but for takeout I thought the servers were friendly, accommodating, and efficient. Glad it was my first stop on my Moody St. exploring. :)

Yelp
Such a cute spot! I love how In A Pickle came about with the owner being in a pickle to find a spot to open up his restaurant! The food here is amazing! The portions are big and very shareable. I really like the mixed berry French toast! It had the right amount of sweetness and tartness from the fruits. I went right before Christmas and they were playing the Grinch movie and there was a grinch walking around and taking photos with customers! I love how attentive they are to their customers!

Yelp
Foods pretty good, wait times Can range from 30 minutes to an hour, and staff was friendly! Parking is pretty tough, everything is street parking so be prepared to parallel park! If there's a decent parking spot I have found it yet. Customer service is friendly & brief! Understandably so they're extremely busy every time I've come to visit. I've tried 3 times to eat here with wait times extending 30+ minutes; it was definitely worth the wait for the quality of food, you may not have time to actually wait tho. I'd go on a day when you have no deadlines and errands to truly enjoy the experience. The Food is really good! I've only tried food from the breakfast menu because the lunch menus (burgers, fries, etc.) if you go to their website the have a menu you can see, it's extremely blurry so you'll have to download the PDF which is easier; I recommend looking at the menu before you arrive. I ordered the Steak & Egg breakfast platter, homemade fries, and toast. Along with their pumpkin spice waffles. Truly a home run with the steak and eggs. A big miss with the pumpkin spice; it's gorgeous to look at but it's really spongy, and mine was burnt pretty bad. As far as the restaurant it's crowded and cramped unless you're in a booth. As I've shared before the restaurant has long wait times so you'd be waiting for an incredibly long time if you wait in doors. They have a great informing system where it will let you know how long your wait is and how many parties are ahead of you. The challenge is that since there a bunch of people waiting you can feel the impatience of people around you. People were pretty rude when walking through the crowds of people. I wish I had a recommendation to the restaurant, but you can tell the staff is trying their best to navigate. I think your restaurant may need to expand their space or create a better space for people to wait.

Yelp
Not even worth a star. Dunkin' Donuts and McDonald's care more about customer satisfaction than this restaurant. Today I ordered the hot honey chicken and waffle and I took a small bite of the waffle and it didn't taste good so I told the waitress and asked if I can get something else instead. She said ok but she can't take the meal off the bill unless there was something wrong with it. I wasn't asking for a refund! I asked if I could order something else so it made no sense to me. My meal was only 19.99- I never heard such foolishness from a restaurant before. So I asked for the manager and the OWNER came and had the same response and wanted to know what's wrong with it. Not everyone in this world has the same tastebuds and I didn't like how it tasted. So I didn't eat the food and still paid for it. I won't recommend this place to anyone and I won't return. They don't care about customer satisfaction at all. He could have offered me a scrambled egg and slice of toast and I would've been ok lol Maybe put a disclaimer on the menu that "if you end up not liking the taste of the food you order, please know you'll still have to pay for it and pay for a new meal or go home hungry" WTF AND I really really hope they weren't treating me this way because we are black people. We were definitely a minority there.

Yelp
My friend and I came to In A Pickle after hitting the gym this weekend - they had quite an extensive menu that seemed to really lean into indulgent sweet breakfast items. That said, I wasn't in the mood for decadent pancakes/waffles, etc so I ended up just getting a breakfast burrito and we shared a simple French toast. It was all pretty average. They also brought our check pretty much right after we received our food, which made the meal feel rushed.

Jan S.

Yelp
'Twas pretty good, good size brunch food for 3 served four of us. Manger even lowered volume of music (was way too loud) so we could hear each other across the table. Thank you!!
google avatar

Dianne A.

Yelp
The food was amazing. My first time here was very pleasant. The staff was friendly and very accommodating, the menu has a lot of choices. Parking can be a bother, but it's worth it. I got the Wasabi Grilled Cheese. If you like spicy it's a great choice. French fries were perfect. My son got the Fruity Pebbles Chicken and Waffle. It was amazing, with a lot of flavors!! There was a lot to this dish, so he brought some home for a second meal. There's a lot of choices in the menu, we'll be back to try something new!!!
google avatar

Yelp
We went here after a college visit! The food is good but just like classic dinner food. They service was very very quick but we went a weird time so not sure how it is when it's busy! The restaurant is decorated nicely! Be warned they have very strict parking. I parked across the street and was ticked in about 15 minutes! Apparently the other side of the street is a lane! There is no signage but they have ticket cops all around! Be ware!!!!!!

Yelp
Located on Moody Street in downtown Waltham, In A Pickle offers plenty of tasty and innovative breakfast and lunch options served by friendly, energetic staff in a casual, open ambiance. The breakfast menu includes plenty of options that will accommodate any dietary preferences or restrictions.. with very filling portions of both key breakfast staples like omelettes, pancakes, waffles, or breakfast sandwiches alongside very innovative iterations of all of the above that you might not expect like their renowned specialty stuffed pancakes and waffles that resemble enormous slices of cake covered with sugary, gooey goodness. The breakfast menu also offers plenty of options like paninis, burgers, wraps, and salads which are available all day for those heathens who don't crave breakfast foods at every opportunity. I had the Basic 2-Egg platter ($10), served with two eggs (over medium at my request), breakfast meat (3 pieces of bacon, 3 sausage links, or 1 slab of honey roasted ham), homefries, and two slices of toast. Yum! Eggs were cooked exactly as expected and the dish was tasty and very filling. My dining companion preferred something lighter and opted for breakfast sandwiches on our two visits, which she really enjoyed. In a Pickle doesn't have a private, off-street parking lot, but there is plenty of on-street parking on Moody Street. We will definitely be back next time we're in the area! Pro Tip : Add yourself to the wait list on the Toast app before you head out, so your table will be ready for you when you arrive.
google avatar

Monica L.

Yelp
In a Pickle really embraced the Halloween spirit with festive decorations that added a fun, seasonal touch to the ambiance. The Eggs Benedict I ordered was perfectly executed, with runny yolks and a rich hollandaise sauce that elevated the dish. My spiked mocha latte was delicious! Overall, the combination of great food and a festive setting made for a memorable dining experience.

Yelp
We were a group of six and were treated to an awesome first time experience at In A Pickle by Liss! We were made to feel by Liss and her amazing table side manner as if we were family coming over brunch. The menu here is robust and full of so many great options that we had to even get a dish "for the table" ! Everything was delicious and we can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent omelets... I mean really excellent (The "Matterhorn" was delicious). Didn't try anything else. Cool vibe. Service was very good.
google avatar

Yelp
Not sure if Waltham hits the list but In A Pickle Restaurant is really good! My son highly recommends the Oreo pancake. I had the left overs for a midnight snack and my body hates me but my tastebuds were on cloud nine!
google avatar

Yelp
Very fun breakfast and lunch spot in Waltham,MA. This is the place to visit if your looking for a homely breakfast but they specialize in their crazy flavors of specialty treats. We got the butter finger pancakes and Nutella French toast. It can get busy here but it is worth the wait. I will say the flavors can be really sweet and indulgent so you way want to split them!
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
Flinn did so well as our server and made sure we were well taken care of during our stay. Thank you Flinn and congrats on the baby!!
google avatar

Yelp
Overall rating: 4.5 stars SUGAR HEAVEN Food: Breakfast and lunch classics such as pancakes, waffles, eggs and bacon, etc. EXCEPT, they bring it a notch up and create art with their breakfast/brunch items Fruity pebble chicken and waffles, oreo pancakes, they even have unique seasonal items too! We got the fall pumpkin bread. Texture: gooey soft Pricing: extremely affordable, plates like this would cost $20-30 in NYC or LA but here in Waltham they range from $12-18 Ambiance: The ambiance very green (probably because they're called In A Pickle HAHA) with tall ceilings and both a dining room in front and a few in the back as well Seating & Parking: street side parking with plenty of seats, keep in mind they can get packed and wait time can even be an hour long Service: quick and nice! Music: pop and sometimes a little classic rock Bathrooms: male and female bathrooms Final comments: A SWEET TOOTH'S HEAVEN! Go if you love sweet things.
google avatar

Carol L.

Yelp
Well it's the best breakfast place around. I'm writing this review to praise the management and staff. My friend and I were to meet at In A Pickle separately. I arrived early and the hostess sat me in a booth. Unfortunately my friend was delayed but the server made me feel comfortable by offering to refill my coffee and graciously accepting my apologies for tying up the table. "No problem, enjoy yourself. More coffee?"

Kathy C.

Yelp
My husband and I had brunch here, I ordered the "kikin panini" and the waitress brought me the "Rachel" When I let her know, she took care of it right away, apologized and next thing we knew the owner Tim came to our table to comp my sandwich, we ended up having a very nice conversation with him and when our waitress brought the bill Tim grabbed it and said it's on me! He absolutely did not need to do that but he was happy to! My "kikin panini" was delicious and my husband enjoyed his breakfast as well. So our experience was delightful, sometimes just a little mistake can be a good thing. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Yu Ya H.

Yelp
Been to this place a couple times and I keep getting either the french toast or chicken and waffles every time! It's never a miss. It can get very crowded during weekend brunch hours but you can get on a waitlist online which is convenient. A big diner type brunch restaurant with a lot of seatings and great soul food.

E M.

Yelp
So good! A must stop breakfast/brunch spot. There is something for everyone on the menu, the service was great and the prices are reasonable

D P.

Yelp
The service was great and all the staff was very friendly. The food was not great though. The waffle was soggy and cold, the omelette was overcooked and bland, and the toast was also cold and mushy.
google avatar

Julie M.

Yelp
I have been talking about this place to everyone I know since having breakfast a few weeks back. The taste of the pumpkin bread French toast has not left my memory. One of the most delicious things I've ever consumed. Thick slices of pumpkin bread, warm and moist paired with the cream cheese frosting topping...HEAVEN. I also got to try the cheddar, bacon, green apple panini which I added Turkey to. What a beautiful sandwich full of flavor and the bread was pressed just right.

Yelp
Really like this place the breakfast was amazing and have been back many times would definitely recommend
google avatar

Neeka P.

Yelp
The m&m pancakes were so amazing and so were the homefries!!! We also loved the eggs but wish they had given us a bit more :( but we shared a meal for $16 and both left stuffed and satisfied so can't complain much! Would definitely return, in a pickle is such a fun breakfast spot

Carla L.

Yelp
Service is great, staff are friendly. Food is amazing, I recommend the Oreo Pancakes!! My boyfriend had the Reaces Pieces Pancakes and he said they were really good! So I highly recommend going!!!
google avatar

Irene P.

Yelp
The Cookies N' Cream Oreo Extreme Pancakes are hands down the best thing I've ever eaten. They also have mind-blowing weekly specials, such as the Extreme Birthday Cake Pancakes they had for their 20th birthday, so make sure to come by while they're in rotation. No matter what you order, the portions are huge and well worth the price. I bring as many people as I can here so they can also experience the closest thing to heaven on earth.
google avatar

Kyle C.

Yelp
This place is terrible. Their omlettes are eggs made on a sheet pan and cut into squares. They always come out cold and tasteless. Their pancakes are of but crazy overpriced. The staff is always rude and the seating situation is awful. Very dissapointing.

David G.

Yelp
Great fare, lively crowd, excellent service. Accommodated allergies and dietary preferences.

Yelp
Heather was great! The food and service were perfect. We love visiting IAP! Our favorite brunch spot

Yelp
So this place was almost a very cool find. Located on awesome Moody Street in Waltham MA, the place looks small but don't be fooled, plenty of places to sit. Great atmosphere and really cool menu. I had a Roast Beef like Reuben and my daughter had Fruity Pebbles Waffles and Fried Chicken tenders (chicken & waffles obviously). Both were delicious. Unfortunately though, there were some downsides...1) I got chips with my meal and it was a $0.25 bag of ruffles 2) I had thought we got charged for EVERY single soda, with no refills but that was not the case, it was the $4 for a Coke that threw me 3) They need more servers as ours was certainly overwhelmed ..... those 3 aforementioned points all spell "penny pinching" to me and dropped them to 3.5-4 stars for me. Good food and almost great, but being cheap/chintzy leaves a sour taste in your mouth. No pun intended

Sandy C.

Yelp
Food and service were amazing! Ambiance was so-so...a little loud but everyone was very nice!
google avatar

Patrick B.

Yelp
Well...... travel to breakfast was a bit different. Heavy traffic to get there, street parking was plentiful. TVs above, not too many people at 930, greeted and sat down. Coffee ordered. Menu was full of many choices, but the standby favorite (they called it the "stacked ") was my call. Dining companion had the supreme omelet. New England coffee was good and hot in a great mug. Food could have been a touch hotter, but came out quickly. Little to no noise and a very clean decor. Would be willing to give another chance, more to see on the menu that does beg to try. Which makes one wonder why breakfast restaurants don't offer a sample taster to try their menu choices? Alas, will give a try soon enough! Super friendly waitstaff!

Yelp
Came here as I had seen this place on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Stopped by for lunch on our road trip and was in and out in about an hour (we were there at noon on a Thursday). Indoor and outdoor seating available. The four of us split 2 entrees and were fully satisfied. The toro loco was huge and came with not one, but two patties, while the chicken and waffle came with 3 pieces of chicken, a generous amount of ranch (you could also opt for buttermilk sauce for sweet tooth's out there) and bacon embedded into the waffle. The food is very hearty and the portions are huge. Two dishes were enough to feed four people. Credit cards are accepted. Gendered restrooms are available. Indoor and outdoor dining. They have cocktails, but weren't serving beer (as of May 2022). Limited 1 hour street parking available around the block. Overall, a solid spot for a big breakfast/brunch.
