"Hospitality duo Massimo and Carolyn Papetti, the owners of Chevy Chase’s mod Italian-American favorite I’m Eddie Cano and pint-sized Italian Bar next door, broke into pizza last summer with the opening of In Bocca al Lupo in Glover Park. Set to an Italian soccer-themed backdrop, the playful neighborhood addition centers around round Roman-style pies that sport crispy, cracker-thin crusts. Massimo enlisted his cousin Fulvio de Rosa — a pizzaioli maestro from Salerno, Italy — to man the kitchen." - Eater Staff

Google
This is Roma style thin crust. Pomodoro sauce was excellent. Not fake sweet but great Italian tomato sweet. This is a gem. Reminds me of New Haven style pizza!

Google
Absolutely amazing! 10/10. If you want authentic Italian pizza that leaves you wanting MORE. please come here. I have been in DC for six years and I am so happy that this location is now opened. Customer service is phenomenal and very friendly staff. The owner and manager are sweethearts. Highly recommend coming.

Google
We participated in their Kickstarter program so we got a notice earlier today that they were offering pizza for pickup starting today. Delicious! Reminded me of traveling in Italy! Highly recommended!

Google
Incredibly delicious! We had the “in bocca Al Lupo” pizza with fresh mozzarella, sun dried tomatoes, and their “special green sauce.” We also had Aperol spitz and fried rice balls. The ingredients were fresh and super tasty. Service was great and friendly. Price was good.

Alexander O'Neill

Google
Thin chewy crust, delicious toppings. What else can you ask for in a pizza? We went to In Bocca al Lupo for a low-key date night and had a great time. Would recommend the In Bocca Al Lupo pizza!

Emma Nicoletta

Google
We got the In Bocca Al Lupo and the Quattro Formaggi and both were delicious! The thin crust makes it filling but not overly heavy. The staff were also very attentive and friendly. A great addition to Glover Park!

Sam

Google
Great pizza for a good price. The menu has many options to choose from. I really enjoyed the Diavlo pizza and the aperol spritz. The service was great! Quaint place!

Google
Excellent! This is the real deal, serving elevated Roman-style pizza in a friendly and casual spot. The special pie really was special, creative and delicious, and the other two were great. The arancini and salads were lovely. The Italian wine list was thoughtful and very affordable -- we got two bottles. And the staff were helpful and very, very Italian. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Literally the best pizza!!! My picky kids are the entire pizza. We loved it so much that we went back the same day because we were only in the city for the day. The staff was beyond sweet to my kids and were so nice to us!! Also, get the tiramisu!! Yummy

Yelp
Updated review: I'm so happy this place is open fully. The last time we came they were still take out only. Stopped by on a Thursday night. They had a lovely opera singer with a live piano player. They've also expanded the menu of appetizers. We had the in bocca lupo pizza, the Italian chicken wings, and an order of bruschetta. They did a nice job of personalizing the space and have lots of specials. Definitely a great spot for the neighborhood.

Yelp
This unique belowground brick space has changed hands quite a few times. I remember is as Faccia Luna, but that was followed by Kavanaugh's, Arcuri, and now this new outfit. They're all pizza places, but each one redesigns the space and produces different food. Frankly, this may have been the least impressive of the lot. It does seem to be legitimately Italian, with a small but energetic group of Roma fans watching Serie A at the bar while I ate. The menu is small, and I'd hoped for top notch execution, but my pizza didn't wow me. With a Neapolitan style, you certainly can get some sogginess in the middle of the pizza, but the crust is usually more robust. Here the crust was so thin the whole pie was soggy. The sauce and cheese seemed of good quality and the mushrooms plentiful, but overall, I've had a lot of better pizzas in DC. I've also had places that billed themselves as Roman style pizza before, which was a different and better experience. 2.5 stars from me, and I likely won't be back until another new restaurant takes over the space.

Jordan N.

Yelp
Authentic Neapolitan-style pizza, with authentic Neapolitan flavors. This place actually feels more like a sports bar that serves authentic pizza, and I think that was its intention - to be an Italian sports bar in DC. The bartender, server, and owner are all friendly, and be aware that the hospitality charge (aka tip) is included in the final bill. The alcohol offerings are Italian-centric, and they're good too. Same owners as the Italian Bar (great Italian morning pastries), and the Italian restaurant I'm Eddie Cano, both which gets high marks.

Yelp
SPQR stood for Senatus Populusque Romanus (the Senate and the Roman people) Once again, our dear friends Massimo, Papetti and his manager, Vito enveloped us in the world of Rome. We sat by the blazing fire with SPQR lovingly placed over the opening in green red and white tile. If you have ever been to Rome and you no doubt had the dish amatricana; it was one of the favorites of ancient Rome and eaten by gladiators. It features, guanciale and sautéed onions. All the years we lived in Italy. I would eat this once a week, now they make it literally in our own backyard in Georgetown and Glover park, Boca's amatricana pizza is pure heaven, or as Dante would say Finalamente Incielo! Thank you Caroline and Massimo and Vito for being in the neighborhood. I know the food is a little more expensive because they kindly pay fair wages to their workers. Please consider this when paying the bill. If you've ever read Anthony doer's four seasons in Rome, about his life, while he lived in the geniculum writing his famous book, all the light, we cannot see, you will experience the kindness and fascination of two millennia of the Roman people. Or you can just walk down the street listen, smell taste all that is Italy, right in your backyard. Even the pepperocini. Picannte, flavored oil and the the bomb Billina encrusted with sugar and cinnamon, the fresh salad, and olives, are Michelin curated. Vito's Pulia inspired rotating fresh whitefish as well as wine paired From the Earth and volcanic soil of Pompeii will also give you Stanley tucci OMG moments. Without the airfare. Please pay them a visit. Please practice your Italian and long live Bocca Lupo.

Yelp
Roma style pizza. Excellent pomodoro sauce thin crispy crust. Great service My wife had a sausage and mushroom she loved but no pomodoro on that one. Toppings are generous.

Dennis T.

Yelp
We came in right before noon and we were the only people in the restaurant. The owner was very attentive but the food was pretty lackluster. We wanted to like it more considering the glowing reviews but the food was just fine and the least bang for your buck within this area.

Erika T.

Yelp
Was in the area looking for a pizza spot for dinner and so glad I came across In Bocca Al Lupo. This was truly a Roma pizza experience. We started with a salad and ordered a pizza with mushroom. The greens and vegetables on the salad were fresh and we were amazed by the amount of mushroom they added to the pizza lol. The pizza was so tasty and light that we ended up ordering another- the In Bocca Al Lupo. Loved the complexity in flavors and still light but filling. We ordered an old fashioned and there a tequila+limoncello drink that was super refreshing. Service was top notch and truly enjoyed the experience and will be back!

Chris A.

Yelp
Cannot say enough about my first experience here. I'm 250#'s and though I'm not proud of that it does lend to my love of pizza. At the owners suggestion I got the sausage and mushroom with red sauce and of course mozzarella cheese. In my 60 years of pizza experience this is one of the top pies I've ever had! The other 2 were in NY. This week I'm planning on going back but this time with my daughter. (She's only 115#)

Mary D.

Yelp
Fabulous! Best Pizza around. Good atmosphere and excellent staff You won't be sorry. Every dish is delicious!

Katherine K.

Yelp
I had the Carbona pizza and it was very tasty! But it was pretty slow. After we were seated, we waited about half an hour before our order was taken.

Monica L.

Yelp
This is a lovely place. Great authentic pizza. If you like the thin crust this is the place to go. The chef and the owner are friendly and made me feel like home. Really enjoy it. Thank you Massimo

Christa H.

Yelp
Exceptional food from people who clearly love food! We ordered the Bolognese and the gnocchi were impossibly light and tender. The carbonara was also delicious. Clean lines, refined decor, and music that was not too loud rounded out a wonderful Saturday lunch. We'll definitely be back!

Lilia S.

Yelp
CREPI EL LUPO! Came in for an early dinner. We were the only customers, nevertheless manager/waiter was so rude we decided to leave after my glass of house wine. After we left I saw the outrageous receipt for $18.0. I called them. A glass of wine was $13, the other $5 - FEES and taxes. Once in a lifetime culinary experience!

Paul C.

Yelp
We came here for drinks after dinner on a Saturday night. It has thr like great feel of a classy neighborhood kind of place. There was able jazz pianist playing music. The whole place was just enchanting. The cocktails were great. I cant wait to come back for what they are famous for...the pizza!!!! Went back a second time last Saturday and the experience was as fantastic as the first time. The pizza has a air, thin crispy crust. Cant wait to try all the different pizza options. The toppings were very fresh. The bruschetta ricotta e pomodoro was wonderful. Also the arancini cacio e pepe was great. It's a real neighborhood restaurant and very lively on Saturday nights!! Very glad this restaurant is in my neighborhood.

Shabnam K.

Yelp
Wonderful live band, great drink and staff. Strongly recommend this place for weekend hangouts.

Joshua K.

Yelp
Overall, In Bocca al Lupo was a great experience. My friend and I ordered a Quattro Formaggi pizza for delivery. The order via the app came on time with no issues. The pizza itself was delicious, with the pizza still hot, the cheese as well melted as possible for delivery, and the four cheese complementing each other nicely with the right balance of salt, umami, and creaminess. I also appreciated the Roman-style pizza, different from most DC pizza places, which serve Neapolitan-style. I would recommend In Bocca al Lupo and look forward to going again.

Taylor B.

Yelp
My friends and I tried this restaurant for the first time and had a great experience from the time we walked in! We were greeted by a sweet young man who was hosting. One of my friends has a severe peanut allergy and she had her questions answered about the use of peanut oil very quickly. We tried the Suppli Al Telefona for an appetizer and each had a different pizza. Mine had arugula, Parmesan and breasola, it was fantastic. Our service was great and we will happily return to support this family owned restaurant!

Debra C.

Yelp
Visited about 5pm Thursday. I was the only customer so service was very good. Another customer came in who clearly spoke Italian. I ordered the Aperol Spritz and I got the happy hour price for it. I asked which pizza is low in salt, and In Bocca Al Lupo was recommended. I thought that pizza was very good and it was lower in salt than previous ones I tried. I do recommend the Aperol Spritz that tastes very good. The ambiance is great inside. The interior is light and airy even at night and the exterior has been painted white to lighten up the atmosphere. I think this was the best visit I have had there.

Christian M.

Yelp
The pizza is fantastic though and almost redeeming for the fact that we massively overpaid for what amounts to a side salad.

Ryah M.

Yelp
Great and friendly service. I had some of the best Tiramisu in DC here. The ambiance is great and friendly owner.

Lisa M.

Yelp
Came here with my girlfriends for the Italian language dinner ("Language and Linguine"), led by owner Massimo on a recent Wednesday night. The atmosphere surprised us (lights could be a little dimmer, music could perhaps be a little lower), but the food and service quickly wow'ed us! Every single bite was delicious, thoughtful and well-made. We started with salad served in a cracker-thin pizza crust bowl! A fun touch! Bruschetta and assorted arancini were delicious too. Then came the pizzas--I was blown away by how thin and crispy the crust was, and all the toppings were delicious. The star of the show for me was a gluten free eggplant parmesan dish. This is not your traditional eggplant parm--thin slices of roasted eggplant alternate with a fantastic housemade marinara sauce and fresh mozzarella. I would come back to the restaurant for this dish alone. Apparently it is the recipe from I'm Eddie Cano, the owners' other restaurant on Connecticut Ave. We were stuffed but could not turn down dessert--Massimo brought out their bomboloni, which are these amazing, warm cinnamon sugar donuts filled with a spot of custard. I left with some knowledge of Italian, full of great food, and wanting to come back to the restaurant with my family and my husband. In Bocca Al Lupo is a great spot for a date, family meal, or dinner with friends! The owners could not be nicer and they are doing something pretty special with the food that feels authentic and Italian. Wow!

Gladstone P.

Yelp
Another homerun from the Eddie Cano group! Roman pizza is more my style than Neapolitan even with a lot of overlapping attributes. Thinner crust, more pizza (cheese, sauce and toppings) than end crust - to each their own. The pizzaiola's have been trained by the best and the cozy, very futbol Italiana atmosphere with modern bar is a great use of space. While my pizza was made-to-order, it mimicked the anchovy pizza feature on the menu. Do not sleep on the arancini! Sauce was perfect and the cheese is to die for. High quality ingredients from order to table. Excellent service from drink order to eating. I look for this place to be named "DC best..." list in the very near future. The staff love pizza and people! We'll be back - probably waiting in line.

Gigi M.

Yelp
Authentic! The owners are from Rome. The pizza is great. We tried three: margarita, white, and sausage. Also liked the bruschetta. Only one beer, but it is Italian and better than Peronni which I really like. Italian soccer hang out with ample seating inside and outside. Will go again soon.

Jackie G.

Yelp
Best pizza ever Mama shark was ox friend of three quality meat and cheese All of the bruschetta are a good choice

Faith C.

Yelp
As a Glover Park resident currently serving overseas, I was so impressed and excited to eat here! It is very high quality, authentic Italian food that is delicious and very reasonably priced. More people should check it out and support the restaurant! Very family friendly also, kind owners who were attentive and care deeply about the quality of their food. (On yelp, why does this gem not appear when I search Italian restaurants in Glover Park?).

Lanning M.

Yelp
From two New Yorkers, this is GOOD pizza, thin crust, Roman style, as good as any we had two months ago when in Rome. Lanny and Barbara Moldauer

Karl R.

Yelp
This is great addition to Glover Park. Impressive, high quality Italian food in a part of Glover Park that desperately needs better restaurants. We enjoyed several pizzas, salad and spaghetti and meatballs. My kids loved it and I appreciated the high quality ingredients and attention to detail. Service was prompt and the ambiance was top notch. I'm amazed it is not attracting more attention since this is a top tier restaurant that's accessible to everyone at reasonable prices. 5 stars!

Greg A.

Yelp
This place gives family-owned business vibes and you get very authentic Italian pizza. The pictures speak for themselves.

Edie Q.

Yelp
Amazing pizza!! The best I've had in DC. Very authentic Roman style, plus they have lots of other options on the menu including great salads, fish and pasta. Great beer and wine list as well. It's a warm and friendly family owned business in Glover Park. Highly recommend!

Riley C.

Yelp
Amazing food and atmosphere! Walked down after wanting to try since their opening and wish I stopped in sooner! The Margherita Pizza and Bruschetta is splendid, rivaling if not beating out "il Canale" in Georgetown. The QR Code is incredibly easy to use and even with the automatic hospitality fee, the final price is still very affordable for a budget friendly date night. Staff is very helpful and everyone is so pleasant! If you are within walking distance, or even driving distance, you should put this place at the top of your list!

ed m.

Yelp
Wooooah! $12.50 for a 12 ounce draft beer at the bar at 6:55pm at a local pizza joint. What! So much for a happy hour for a local GP resident.

P Z.

Yelp
Unbelievable pizza. The owners are delightful and very welcoming. Very fair pricing.

Joseph G.

Yelp
Absolute best pizza in DC. Delicious selection of pizzas with fresh ingredients and thin, crispy crusts. I would also recommend ordering supplì, which are the absolute best I have ever had in the United States and are on par with what you would find in Rome. An amazing pizzeria with a great atmosphere.

Sasa S.

Yelp
10/10 Best Pizza in DC by far. Their signature pizza, which is named after the place, is arguably the best one with some fresh sun-dried tomatoes. Not to mention that their white and red pizzas have such variety that anyone can find something they like, and their appetizers are very delicious. Lovely employees/management/ownership as well. Everyone should try it at least once.

Tiger M.

Yelp
We stopped in for dinner last evening to try out the Roman thin crust pizza. Other than Tomato Flyer Pizza Co. out of Maryland, I don't know of anyone else in the area doing this wonderful style of pizza. The pizza was excellent and the service friendly. Enjoyed a nice Amarone wine with our delicious dinner. It was not very crowded while we were there so people are definitely missing out on this great pizza which I believe is the best in DC!

D S.

Yelp
The pizza was soggy, like a wet paper towel. That is never good, but is particularly bad for this style of pizza. Sat on the patio and there were a lot of roaches scurrying under the table and around my feet. Maybe not their fault but still kind of gross. The rather generic Puglian wine by the carafe was much better than I expected.

Andrew M.

Yelp
Delicious pizza, top quality. The ingredients are excellent and execution is great. Wish we were able to eat it immediately (we ordered delivery) so the dough was crispy, but even still it was excellent.

Hsiao-Lei L.

Yelp
Food is nice and portion wice is definitely bigger than we expected. They have live music every Saturday, good chance to go.

Diana M.

Yelp
By far, today I have the best risotto ever. I'm gluten intolerant, and since I made that clear, the staff made it very clear which of the appetizers I should not even look at. My friends had pizzas, all different ones, and they all said that it was the best Italian pizza they had in the United States. The two of them have been to Italy and few other countries in Europe, and they said it was truly European style pizza. The drinks, appetizer, main course meals, friendly staff and pleasant ambient, all deserve 10 stars!!! We will be making regular trips to this place and highly recommend it to everyone we know!

Grace H.

Yelp
Pizza was authentic and delicious. Servers were friendly. Ambiance is homey with a nice bar. Great neighborhood joint

Amy L.

Yelp
I think what confuses me is reading the other reviews on here and trying to decide if we just had an off night experience or if those few people got lucky. Btw I've really been looking forward to this place opening because all the other pizza places nearby have a lot of crust which I'm not a fan of. Took my dad last night, his last night in town, and went in at 5:10pm because I had a work call at 7, thinking 1.5 hours for a quick pizza was sufficient. Our experience was bizarre at best but mostly just disappointing. We walked in and were nicely greeted by one of the owners (or what looks to be one of the owners from the website pic). The man assigned to take care of our table was just ODD energetically form the start which continued through "service." It felt a little bit like asking for what you wanted was an imposition, not because he said so, but because of the odd look you'd receive when you'd said something like...is there a make your own pizza option...to which he replied, I guess we could use this one and add mushrooms...or asking for vinegar because the "salad" was a large family style plate of nicely quartered romaine hearts, upon which a heap of red onion, 4 halved tomato, a few pieces of cucumber, a handful of tiny olives were placed then drowned in flavorless oil(not even sure it was olive when I'm honest) and zero acid as far as I could tell. It tasted like store bought "Italian" dressing but without even the flavorful part. Maybe they just mixed a bad batch-dunno. In the meanwhile, our waters were obsessively filled, like take one sip and they're there filing it back up-waaaay too much. The pizza arrived almost 40 minutes after it was ordered. We both ordered diavolos which I lived on in Italy but it just tasted like SALT. On top of that, the weird guy asked me if I wanted him to but my pizza (we'd already asked for it to be cut) and started going to do it without my answer which was of course, no(weird) The crust was floppy and undercooked and the pizza was inedible. Literally. Like just gross. We got them to go because I didn't want to get into why don't you like it etc. They went straight in the bin at home after a 60+$ tab and we actually ordered two dependably ok delivery pizzas which we devoured while I did the call (that I was then late for). Speaking of the tab, I was treating my dad, so I handed aforementioned man my card to pay, but when he brought it back, he looked at me and said, you don't need to sign, and handed my card and the receipt to my dad instead of to me. Like, in the 1 minute he was gone he forgot that I paid-just gonna say there was this SERIOUSLY odd/ misogynistic tone over the course of the visit and this just took the cake. What's bizarre is these people are clearly authentic Italian folks who have made, what looked to be, a super cute place. I mean the owner was yammering away to someone either on the phone or in person most of the time we were there, in Italian, so definite legit...but man, I just don't know what else to say. Hope others have a better experience.

Agnes M.

Yelp
New favorite pizza in DC. Thin crust, super flavorful, and great neighborhood ambiance. The owners are from Rome -- Italian yelling in the kitchen adds to the experience. Definitely get the namesake In Boca al Lupo pizza, with sun dried tomatoes and a bright green sauce. The caccio e peppe arancini were also a stand-out. Yum.

Susie O.

Yelp
This pizza is absolutely delicious. We love the In Bocca Al Lupo (red pizza with basil, mozzarella, sun dried tomatoes, and some super tasty oil drizzle), the mozzarella, mushroom and sausage, and the red pizza with the grilled vegetables. Salad for 2 (really for 3) comes in a pizza bowl which is warm and thin and crispy. The people who work there are super friendly and the service is great. Welcome to Glover Park, please stay forever!!

Tyler M.

Yelp
Gem of Glover Park! We stopped in for dinner and tried the weekly special pizza which consisted of pistachio, mortadella and buffalo mozzarella on an excellent house made crust. The service was excellent from every employee that stopped by our booth and we even met the owner, which explained the Roman Pizza concept to us. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Minchia T.

Yelp
As an Italian I have to say this is the best pizza in town, the suppli appetizers reminded me of Rome. There is an army of Italians working the place that actually knows how to work the brick wood fired oven. Unlike most area pizzerias, it comes out a bit crispy and cooked correctly. The sauce, crust and cheese is like back home. Finally a pizza place like Italy is in town, and super service as well.

Helene M.

Yelp
WOW!!! Best pizza I have had here in DC. Ingredients were fresh and top notch quality. The crust was thin and definitely out of a wood burning oven. Can not wait to order from here again. Sooo excited to have found this spot so close to our home

Me M.

Yelp
Awesome pizzas. Great wines by the bottle. Lovely owner. Definitely will return!

Matt G.

Yelp
Great addition to Glover Park. Crust is super thin, sauce is very fresh, toppings were all great. Makes for a delicious carry out meal but would be even better hot and fresh at the table. Ordered the Napoli, In Bocca Al Luppo and the Diavola pizzas. Highly recommend. It's the same owners as I'm Eddie Cano up Connecticut Ave by Politics and Prose which does great Italian food in a casual setting.

Willie C.

Yelp
Pizza is fantastic. I recommend dinning in to get the crispiest pizza possible. I think this may be top 3 pizzas in DC with a unique thin light dough and great flavor. Although you currently don't really have a waiter when you dine in (you order via QR code) the service was fantastic and we were checked on a few times. If you live in Glover park or Georgetown, this is a must try spot.
