"Thanks to its location inside Bollate prison, InGalera offers a unique dining experience. Here, guests eat in a room within the prison itself, while dishes – of equal quality to other restaurants in the area – are prepared with the contribution of prison inmates. In this subdued ambience, choose from meat and fish dishes, with a restricted choice at lunchtime and the option of ordering a single dish." - Michelin Inspector

We had a great experience. Lovely place with friendly staff. Our food was very good, my only critique would be that it could use a little more seasoning, but this is a personal taste. We would love to come back.

Very cool concept - pretty wild place to have a dinner. It’s in an actual functioning prison. Unfortunately the actual food is not particularly great, but it’s still a cool spot to visit.

Great food and a fantastic initiative to have convicts working in preparing food and serving clients inside the penitentiary. Service was great, with a sincere smile and very professional. The food amazing with a light combo of pasta and second course in the same plate, elegantly done and very tasty. Ample choices for the deserts. An additional star for the tongue in cheek decoration, with all the famous jail break movies.

Unconventional experience inside the prison of Bollate. Carte with interesting choices, and seasonal off-menu. We tried some of the starters: red salmon tartare (delicate but little tasty and missing -to my taste- a bit of dressing), “carne nuda d’inverno” (raw Fassona meat tartare) prepared at the table with raw egg, Dijon mustard and anchovies (super tasty and delicate) and cannellini beans soup with crème brûlée with food gras (the best of the 3 starters to me, tasty and very creative). We then moved to the main course. We took „Risotto alla crema di peperoni, zeste di limone e crostacei“ and stuffed pig cheek with polenta. Rice was delicate with a great mix between orange taste and row shrimps. Pig cheek was not enough cooked and a bit chewy, and polenta very liquid. A bit disappointing. Desserts were a comeback to higher standards, with a matcha ice cream in baked apples, a 3 layers chocolate cake (Il cioccolato nel cioccolato, tre colori e tre consistente ) and La Financier al Giandiua. All were very particular and tasty. Location: We have been welcomed at the entrance of the prison (many parking places) and accompanied in the restaurant, inside the prison area. The inside furniture Is basic, but the posters in the walls (referring to films in famous escapes from jails) and the simple objects furnishing the rooms make the atmosphere nice and welcoming. Recommended to book in advance.

Most tasting menus show case their culinary skills. In my opinion it was more like a fixed price tourist menu. I'd order a la carte next time. Better selection. It was very good though. Found the cost to be reasonable and quality good.

15 euro lunch for an appetizer and main, aka a huge plate of food! Cafe/espresso included. You park outside in visitors area and go through the sign in entrance as other visitors do. After saying the name of the reservation, the jail guide will take you into the restaurant. You never enter the jail or see the inside but you dine in a space attached to it. Such a great concept! You never feel terrified or endangered. There’s one armed security guard at the front cashier and barred windows - small reminders that the staff are convinced prisoners. But other than that, you forget that you’re dining in a jail! Everyday the lunch special is the different so you never know what you are getting. The food was so fresh. The homemade bread they serve was also so scrumptious. I also met the woman who created this restaurant concept and manages the place. She is so lovely and took her time to discuss with me not only about the restaurant but also incarceration situations in US vs Italy. This places deserves even more than 5 stars for the work they are doing with these prisoners. I went by car so I’m not sure how tourists can visit but I heard there’s a metro stop nearby.

I've never visited this restaurant, but I like giving people second chances in life. I appreciate what they stand for and am leaving the positive review to boost their popularity.

Google
- Great prices for a high quality ingredients - Hard to get in as it is located in an active jail yard 😳

Yelp
Unfortunately, I can no longer recommend this restaurant. Our meal was rushed (4 courses in an hour), food quality was sub-par, and the bill was astronomically high. While the mission is noble, the execution is seriously missing.

Yelp
We had a great time InGalera! This restaurant is in a prison. They offer a work week lunch menu and on weekends a Prix Fix and a la Carte menu. Dining room service is provided by inmates who have been accepted into the prison fine dining work/study program. Waitstaff/students are learning valuable skills to take with them to compete in the job market. Reservations are required. A group of us carpooled over to the prison on a Saturday afternoon. After parking, we let the guard know we had reservations and were directed to a small waiting room where a guard quickly came to escort us to the dining room. Staff took our coats to hang in a closet before showing us to our table. Decorated in a relaxed, comfortable manner, the walls contain a variety of framed prison movie posters as well as framed photos taken by other residents in a photography program, which are quite interesting. The tables are covered in white linen, silverware and wine glasses. A very nice presentation. Bottles of wine, available to compliment your meal, are on display around the room. Ask for the wine list for details. Between us all, we tried most everything on the menu, and the staff were exceptionally helpful making sure those in our group with food allergies knew which menu items were safe for them. If a Prix fix menu is desired, everyone in the party must order Prix fix. Ask about this when making reservations. The food was prepared well and presented beautifully. Desserts were ordered by a few, along with a good number of coffees. Two plates of chocolate covered gooseberries and chocolate nut bark came with the coffees and they were SO good we asked for another plate. Which they graciously provided. Everyone here from waiters, to managers and Chef are delightful. They seem to genuinely enjoy their work, which is infectious and created an experience we will remember for a very long time.

Yelp
I liked the idea of a restaurant in the prison, to allow inmates to learn a valuable skill. The setup of the restaurant is nice and service is good. Unfortunately, the food (while good) is absolutely not up to my expectations (in particular when compared with prices and with how it was presented). A pity, I would have loved to give this place four stars. But it really does not live to expectations. A tip: you must park in the lot outside the jail and then a person will meet you at the door to bring you in.
