Portland-Based Chain Little Big Burger Debuts in Austin - Eater Austin

"Little Big Burger, the Portland-based burger chain, is making its Austin debut today, Friday, July 6. The burger chain is known for its very simple but high-quality burger menu, including cheeseburgers with cheese options like chevre, cheddar, or bleu; the classic burger with lettuce, red onions, and pickles; and the vegan-friendly veggie burger. There are also skin-on truffle fries, and local beers and ciders. Little Burger’s initial day will run under limited hours from 5 p.m. to midnight today, and then expand into full hours starting tomorrow, Saturday, July 7 from 11 a.m. to midnight. The East Austin location is holding a free burger day on Friday, July 13, where the first 500 people will receive a free burger. There are plans to open two more Austin locations of Little Big Burger by 2021. Local restaurant group Big Star BG is overseeing the Texas expansion of the burger chain. Founders Micah Camden and Katie Poppe opened the first Little Big Burger in 2010 in Oregon. It was bought out by Chanticleer Holdings in 2015, which also owns other burger chains and several Hooters locations. Little Big Burger’s full hours are from 11 a.m. to midnight Friday through Saturday and then from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday." - Nadia Chaudhury

Google
Ordered the Triple Patty, Double Cheeseburger, and the simple cheeseburger with Fries. Definitely a treat for burger lovers. In n Out has to be my MOST FAVOURITE food giant for burgers. The patties were stacked high, juicy, and flavorful without being overly greasy. Love the fresh lettuce, tomato, and their signature spread tied it all together.

Came here for the first time! I had French fries 🍟, small root beer, and veggie burger! Twas very delightful and yummy! I love the sauce they use! Wish they make veggie paddies for vegetarian 🌱 one day! Cheers 🥂

Google
First timer at In 'n Out here. Great opportunity to try out the food without the long lines you find everywhere at their locations throughout California. Super friendly staff & got me hooked on their delicious burgers!

Google
Locally sourced fresh meat a few steps above usual fast food. Simple menu and has an allure because of limited locations. A very tasty burger by fast food standards. Supposedly Bourdain liked them.

Google
🍔 In-N-Out Cheeseburger Review 🍟 🍽️ Food Quality: 4.5/5 If you’re looking for a simple yet delicious cheeseburger, In-N-Out does it exceptionally well. The cheeseburger 🍔 consists of a fresh, juicy beef patty with melted American cheese 🧀, crisp lettuce 🥬, ripe tomato 🍅, and a dollop of their signature spread (a tangy, slightly sweet Thousand Island-style sauce). Everything is sandwiched between a soft, toasted bun that adds just the right amount of texture to each bite. 🔥 Highlights: ✔ Fresh Ingredients – The vegetables are crisp, and the beef patty tastes freshly grilled. ✔ Balanced Flavors – The combination of melted cheese, seasoned beef, and creamy spread creates a perfect bite. ✔ Great Portion Size – Not too big, not too small – just the right size for a fulfilling meal. 🍟 The Fries: The fries are fresh-cut and fried in sunflower oil. While they’re healthier than most fast-food fries, they can be a bit plain if eaten alone. 🥤 Drinks & Shakes: In-N-Out also offers a delicious lineup of shakes 🍦 made with real ice cream. The chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry shakes are thick and creamy, making them the perfect pairing with a cheeseburger. 🛎️ Service: 4/5 The service at In-N-Out is generally fast and friendly. The employees are polite, and they double-check orders for accuracy. However, since the restaurant is always packed, there can be a bit of a wait during peak hours. But considering that everything is made fresh to order, the short wait is worth it. 🍽️ Atmosphere: 4/5 In-N-Out has a classic diner-style atmosphere with its red-and-white color scheme. The seating is comfortable, though it can be hard to find a spot when it's crowded. The outdoor seating at some locations is a great option when the weather is nice. 💡 Tip: If you're ordering to-go, be prepared for a long drive-thru line during busy hours, especially at popular locations. 💰 Price & Value: For the quality of ingredients and freshness, In-N-Out offers amazing value. The cheeseburger is affordable compared to gourmet burger places, yet the taste and quality rival higher-end options. 🔥 Final Verdict: 4.5/5 – Highly Recommended! If you're craving a classic cheeseburger that’s fresh, flavorful, and satisfying, In-N-Out delivers every time. Their signature sauce, fresh ingredients, and high-quality beef make it one of the best fast-food burgers out there. ✅ Best for: Burger lovers, casual dining, and quick but quality fast food. Would I go back? Absolutely! Next time, I’d go for a Double-Double Animal Style with a side of Animal Fries and a Chocolate Shake for the full experience!

Google
This was my first In-N-Out visit ever and I'm glad it was here! The staff was wonderful and hardworking. The food was delicious, atmosphere is clean and welcoming. Definitely visit this location if you are in Austin Texas.

Google
top tier fast food. delicious and quality burgers. fast service. reasonable prices. very few places are fast, cheap and quality. you typically have to sacrifice one of those qualities for other two. clean tables and a decent sized parking lot.

Google
This is In-N-Out location that more than meets expectations. The food is very good. Staff is also on their game. This location does get flooded with late night college drinkers and it peaks about 30 minutes before closing…so don’t count on a serene late night snack,

Yelp
cheap quality burgers filled with crisp flavors. love the secret menu items, a tip is you can get free anima sauce packets instead of buying the animal style fries! service is always friendly and workers work fast. i've grown to really love coming to in n out.
google avatar

Yelp
Dry buns, super slim meat patties? Ordered the double double. - did not meet my burger craving. To each their own - plenty of other burger options where the double cheeseburger hits the spot. Fries were decent ; soda was flat / guess no one monitors their soda machine.
google avatar

Yelp
The good: service is great and the store is clean enough. Food from the several times I had was good too. The bad: There's times the food takes like 15 minutes to come out because the orders are backed up. Not really fast food.
google avatar

Mary S.

Yelp
This location near campus has excellent service and the lines are shorter than other in n out locations for dine in or drive thru. I liked the double double combo because it is a well sized meal for a quick lunch. It would be great if this place had covered outdoor seating.
google avatar

Alonzo A.

Yelp
You can never go wrong with Double Doubles, animal style. IYKYK. Always great service. Seating at this location is a bit limited but if you wait for a seat as soon as you place your order, you'll be fine. Skip the fries, stick to the burgers :) and get some chili's on the side.
google avatar

Nicholas A.

Yelp
Animal style is the only way to go here. The burgers taste incredible with it. The fries are always a little saltier when you get it animal style but that's a trade off I'm willing to make for that. Those people behind the counter are knocking out burgers constantly. It was lunch time when I showed up and it was packed, but no one seemed stressed behind the register or grill. It's amazing to see them keep their cool, always good time at this location!
google avatar

Isabella L.

Yelp
The food was fresh and the staff was quick even when there was a lot of people. The restaurant was cute and they have outdoor seating as well.
google avatar

Yelp
I don't get the hate for In-n-out, this is a classic burger which is still cheep compared to so many places. The quality is good, it's always fresh. It's always really packed but the service moves pretty fast specially the drive through. It's a fast food spot but from my experience the staff is always friendly. Whenever I want a cheep solid burger I come here. My order: Cheeseburger animal style, buns extra toasted
google avatar

Yelp
Everyone knows In-N-Out is a must if you're in Texas or LA. The UT Austin location lived up to all my expectations. The service was great. They treated each customer with respect and patience, despite having a line out the door. The quality and price of their items is unbeatable.
google avatar

Melissa I.

Yelp
Great place! The service at this location is always outstanding and quick. They handle busy crowds very efficiently and remain in such good spirits while doing so. Good seating options indoor and outdoor. The place is kept clean even though being super busy near campus. The food is always hot and tasty and I really am impressed with the experience at a fast food restaurant!
google avatar

Yelp
I got a hamburger with grilled onions (GET THE GRILLED ONIONS) and fries. The fries are good and I recommend the sauce on the hamburger. I've been to a lot In-N-Outs and this one is pretty fast and good service for being next to a university. I've gone to eat here after a late night out and it never disappoints. I love to sit and chat with my friends here at night! Sometimes it can get crowded especially on the weekends but that should be expected and some of the students don't clean up after themselves which can be annoying. This isn't because of the workers or anything just due to the customers. Overall, really good experience and I recommend to any students looking for food to eat late at night.
google avatar

Joseph S.

Yelp
When in Austin I must come and eat at In n Out since they aren't in my neck of the woods. Today we had the single patty protein style no bun. Can't go wrong with in n out
google avatar

Harley C.

Yelp
How can anyone not give this place a 5? This is the best thing the west coast has ever given the south

Loki W.

Yelp
Phenomenal! Friendly fast service and it's the best burger I've ever had. For the amount of food you're getting it's cheaper than McDonald's!

Kat C.

Yelp
Burgers always fast and good! Great for being on campus or close by. Service is great and all the workers are super nice.
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
We went to the drive thru after spending some time at a Taylor Swift themed drag show (literally the best ever!). I was shocked at how kind everyone was, from the speaker ordering to paying and getting our food. The service was amazing! The food tasted delicious, and we wish we had an In-N-Out in Virginia where we live!
google avatar

Ashley D.

Yelp
While in Austin TX we had to test out the hype of the notorious In N Out. Overall it's a basic burger place with old fashioned diner decor. Pros: super cheap and a hefty amount of food. Fast service. Nifty uniforms really drive home the diner feel. The secret sauce is delish. Cons: fries are shoestring fries so they suck unless you eat twenty of them at one time. Overall I'd only try again if I was drunk or broke; not something I'd crave or go out of my way for specifically.
google avatar

Amber L.

Yelp
Have been to this location several times. Overall, i feel like In-N-Out is overrated, overpriced, and consistently takes too long in the drive-thru. took my brother here recently for his first time to the franchise, & i couldn't help but agree with his assessment that the burger patty is too dry, and the fries a major, dry disappointment as well. I've learned my lesson & wont be back unless there's no other open options available
google avatar

Fran Q.

Yelp
Good place to go if you are in college or just in need of a good cheap burger. Love it here. Usually clean. The staff is nice and quick. Had a regular hamburger with grilled onions. Can't go wrong with that
google avatar

Andrew N.

Yelp
Anytime I visit an area with an In-N-Out I commit to at least one visit. My SO had never been so obviously we had to. We ordered the usual crop of burgers and an assortment of fries (one regular, one well-done, one animal style). A vanilla shake was also ordered but not pictured. It's a step above nationwide fast food burgers and maybe a slight notch below its competitors, but the value is simply unmatched.
google avatar

Darren C.

Yelp
The animal fries do indeed make me feel animalistic! My stomach is growling for more! Such a great blend. Cheers!
google avatar

Hector B.

Yelp
What can I say? I gave up and ate fast food! But they're consistent. Always tasty! And they're open...
google avatar

Tony J.

Yelp
This was the best tasting In N Out I've ever had... and I've lived in LA for 10 years! Needed something to eat and found this (didn't know they were in Texas now lol). I don't know what staff was there Monday night/ Tuesday morning 2/20/23 around 12:30a/1a but wow. Every bite, the flavor and even the fries (which I'm usually not a fan of). Super friendly staff. They might have to go train other locations on how to get every spot tasting like this. Thanks!
google avatar

Yelp
Disclosure: This was my very first time trying In-N-Out. With that being said, they have made me a fan. I actually received a coupon for a free burger at a street festival downtown and took the time to drive over late one night while visiting Austin. I had tons of other food options, but I decided to trust that my free coupon was a sign that I should try this mysterious cult classic fast food joint. Everything happens for a reason. Super clean restaurant with no line inside. I didn't realize how small the menu is, but that just makes my life easier. I got a cheeseburger and an order of fries. I love how they take their time preparing your food. It's not fast, but it's not slow. It's juuuuuuuust right! Piping hot and wrapped up with care. Most other fast food restaurants slap food together and sloppily wrap it. In-N-Out does not. I am soooooo sad I didn't know about animal style because the fries were a little meh plain. But that burger????? OMG. So friggin good!!! Staff was friendly and I couldn't have asked for anything more - except animal style. I gotta remember that next time!
google avatar

Elenora B.

Yelp
This was my first time ever trying In-N-Out and I was so excited because I love a good fast food burger but I was a tad bit disappointed. The burger itself was super dry and wasn't that hot. It also didn't really have a flavor. The animal style fries were definitely to die for but they weren't enough to save the whole meal. The restaurant itself was pretty dirty and greasy feeling. I will definitely be back to try In-N-Out to give it another shot but probably at a different location.
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
Not crowd and great food. Next time I'll try Animal style burger! Also student discount is really nice!!

Brittany D.

Yelp
I was so excited to try this place since they're not located on the east coast. I wasn't disappointed, but I wasn't overly impressed. I ordered a cheeseburger add pickles, animal fries and a Neapolitan milkshake. The fries were average; soggy, not well seasoned and honestly nothing to write home about. The burger was the star of the show! I loved the toasted bun, the burger itself was flavored well and the spread was tasty! Milkshake was very runny and the strawberry overpowered the other flavors. Again, it was good but I think I've had my fix.

Jill M.

Yelp
Kept hearing about this place but didn't have one in our area! Finally got to it and was incredibly disappointed!!! Unbelievably mid and not scrumptious at all. Can't believe people love this place :(. Also the menu is so small and I know they have more options that they don't put out. Not a great idea for new timers
google avatar

Christina G.

Yelp
in-n-out never disappoints. However, this one did. The place was filthy and trash was overflowing. The food was still good, but had nowhere to place anything when we were done. It seems like the need to hire more staff. There was one person cleaning the inside and outside and couldn't keep up.
google avatar

Gabriel G.

Yelp
It's a chain. But then again, it's In-N-Out. Lol Ok, for chains I look for location, consistency and service. This place is a little difficult to get into but then again this site is in Austin and an easy place to get into in Austin, is somewhere outside of the city limits. Lol But the service was spot-on. We drove through, because we were pressed for time but the car service was quick and efficient. The window attendant was kind and patient as we asked for more fries after we got our order. I'll go back. But maybe next time I'll Uber. :)

Josh W.

Yelp
I'm the only one in this line and can't get my food in under 30 mins. (Had time to write this review while waiting) Definitely wasn't In and Out of there if you know what I mean.
google avatar

Adam R.

Yelp
I don't think I've ever reviewed in-n-out, but, it's best I do. We went to this location twice during our week in the area, and the quality was as expected- perfect. I've never walked into an in-n-out that I was disappointed eating in, and the quality.. (yes mentioning that twice). I always get items off the "secret" menu, meaning I get animal style for everything, but.. Im ok with this, and I will continue to order animal style burgers and fries. The one complaint I would have is they did not add enough chocolate in my shake one of the times, and I thought it was vanilla. The staff said- this is chocolate, even when I opened it up to show it was white (not enough syrup added?). The second time made up for it, so Im just calling it an accidental mishap. I think anyone who walks in and wonders, why should I have in-n-out outside of California? Simply its the best fast food you're going to get regardless of where you're located currently.
google avatar

Kiyomi C.

Yelp
Terrence is good! Tasty as always. Quick! Do it. Just do it. INO is always a food idea!
google avatar

Tiger B.

Yelp
Consistent great service and good burgers. There's many burger options in Austin but you can't beat the convenience and speed of the drive through on the weekends. Yes I know about whattaburger but is it really a Texas joint now.
google avatar

Yelp
Five EFFEN stars So immma expert as per my California In And Out experiences. The Guadalupe location is better Lupe and his night shift team is actually even better than In and Out Mountain View (same street as Google). That staff was good. But Lupe and team execute better Obviously from my physique, I do not double double animal style / animal FRY fries first please. But I recommend that Lupe eventually be a GM at a Fortune 500. Lupe, manage the drive thru next. Lupe, take #ENGR145 yourself on YouTube via my vids. #YoureWelcome And thank you for running my fries out to me and my 3 compadres. Also, a lot of Austin PD eats here so bachelorette parties..., Eat it up with me / on me. P.S. Google people could eat on campus free but would rather eat here - Larry Chiang
google avatar

Greg D.

Yelp
Ended up here in a Saturday night after trying to eat in a few more upscale restaurants that were either closed for New Year's Day or were so crowded it was hopeless. We're not from Austin so we weren't familiar with this location but the other locations we visit in San Antonio have been consistently good quality. While this location was clean, we noticed people waiting a good while for food and it seemed understaffed. After ordering and waiting quite a while, our two burgers were served with one order of fries. The fries were the usual good taste but not very hot. The burgers, while properly prepared were cold.. the meat was barely warm. Not real appealing. My wife had also ordered a chocolate shake which was very watery and low on flavor. We didn't complain but I suspect that our order sat a while waiting to be served which allowed the food to cool off and the shake to melt down some. Hopefully they can improve on this.

Yelp
On a recent trip to Austin, there was only one thing my son wanted as far as food goes. He wanted In-N-Out. I too wanted to see what the hype is and settle the on going battle of who reigns supreme in Texas. In-N-Out vs.Whataburger. This location was close to where we were sight seeing and was easy to find. Parking was tight, but we found a spot. The restaurant was packed so we had the kids tell us what they wanted and find a table as soon as someone got up. We ended up sitting outside in the patio area since it was the only table we could find. Now, to settle the debate. First off, I wasn't impressed with the lack of variety on the menu. Do you want a burger or a uh...burger. I need variety in my life. Yes I'm going to order a burger, but I like to know I had more choices. So we all just decided on a regular cheeseburger the way it comes, with fries and a drink. The food came out quick and looked nice and fresh. I like onions, but they put a whole thick slice that is the size of the meat patty. That first bite kinda messed up my palette for the rest of the meal. I removed some of the onion and it was a little more pleasant after. The flavor was good, but it did not wow me like my other Texas fast food favorite. The fries were plentiful and could have easily been shared with another person. Next time we will order half the fries. All in all, it was a good meal. I won't be all dramatic and say I hate it because I like the other place better. When in Austin, I would probably stop back in.

Yelp
In-N-Out is a good place to go eat late night in West Campus (next to Halal Bros., Don and Whataburger. This place exploded (not literally) and college students just love this place since it's on the edge of West Campus! I appreciate their staff going to on-campus events and giving away free food cards (whether it's a free meal, hamburger, fries, drink, etc.), that's the reason why I went the last time I went! Now, I know what you are probably going to say. In Austin, there is a huge food debate between In-N-Out and P.Terry's. For me, myself personally, I actually had an In-N-Our burger a long time ago when I went to California for a family vacation many years ago. I thought it was probably the best hamburger I had for the price I paid. Now, ever since coming to Austin and trying P.Terry's for the first time, I enjoy the way they cook their food. P.Terry's has always been my go-to, but now we have some issues with an In-N-Out opening just right off of campus (a walking distance) and a P.Terry's (in close distance is to drive or bike if you're up to it). If you want a real answer now, I say that P.Terry's is great. In-N-Out is up there, but P.Terry's has a better edge. (Sorry for those who are reading this now), I hope to update my review soon and give a new answer to In-N-Out. (It's a debate when you see my laptop have both In-N-Out and P.Terry's stickers on it).
google avatar

Christine H.

Yelp
This location is smaller and has less people than other locations. It is clean and efficient. The prices are extremely reasonable and affordable. You can also get the cheeseburger in the protein style (lettuce wrap) if you don't want the bread. I would suggest ordering in person rather than in drive thru because they tend to only get my order right in person.
google avatar

Anthony M.

Yelp
When it comes to fast food hamburgers, I personally think In-N-Out as one of the better ones, even better than Whataburger. It costs less, has more of a balanced well-rounded flavor, the buns are softer, and the burger sauce you can add is a no brainer. Simple, yet delicious, just how I like it.
google avatar

Bobby W.

Yelp
Love the fries and double-double here. Staff are consistent and hard working. Only thing missing is a friendly greeting! They deserve some tips as well. Get these ladies a tip jar and a gym pass!
google avatar

Lidge P.

Yelp
Awesome customer service... good burgers! Friendly staff and clean restrooms. I would definitely recommend
google avatar

Vince O.

Yelp
This place never disappoints. You want a burger, fast? Here ya go! Tastes good too! Fries are hand made.
google avatar

Shirley L.

Yelp
Wow, the animal style fries are gross. Worst fries I have ever had by a long shot. I heard great things about them, but in reality, they are stale styrofoam textured fries covered with dried up cheese, thousand island dressing, and burnt onion particles. It's like they threw together every scrap that has been sitting in the kitchen too long, and tried to rebrand it. This will forever live in my memory as one of the worst things I have put in my mouth. I couldn't imagine this tasting good even if it was fresh. On the other hand, the burgers are fine. Fat burger buns, skinny burger patties. I guess that's why the move here is to get the double double to make up for the small patties.
google avatar

Kyle A.

Yelp
Being from CA, I'm used to seeing these all over. So glad to find one on my way out of Austin. Food was just as good as I remembered and service was great as always. Thanks for the memories

Yelp
I came late night for the first time ever and the customer service was amazing! My service person named Tough was very patient with my order changes! She was knowledgeable of the menu and extremely professional! The foot was hot and fresh! Great experience!

Yelp
Great burger and fantastic customer service. Thank you to Alexis for taking care of my order when my husband kept trying to change it.

Yelp
5 star in it's class. One of the best burgers anywhere and the burger I measure all other burgers against. Delicious and genius in it's simplicity. Double double animal style is the only way to go. My wife and I are serious food nerds and we took a break from local delicacies to enjoy a rare chance(sadly we live on the east coast, if you call not being near an In-N-Out living?)to have one. We live in Miami and our seven year old son, who had never had an In-N-Out burger, had always referred to In-N-Out as the best burger because mommy and daddy always said it was. After finally getting one, he agrees. For me the fries are just ok but they have their fans as well. They always play second fiddle to burgers. Service is always very friendly. Hint: burgers here take a bit longer, so exercise some patience, you will be rewarded.
