All Texas In-N-Out Burgers Were Closed Because of Bad Buns [Updated] - Eater Austin

"All Texas locations, including Austin, of In-N-Out Burger had to close yesterday because of bad hamburger buns. The Texas In-N-Out Burgers remained closed on Tuesday, June 12, with no set reopening date initially, but later reopened the same day. The issue was not related to food safety, but rather the breads not meeting quality standards. In-N-Out’s Texas locations include restaurants in Austin, San Antonio, and the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The buns were sourced from the distribution center and meat commissary in Dallas." - Nadia Chaudhury

Google
This place is the absolute WORST...after coming here 3 times in the past month...every SINGLE time the order has come out wrong. I can ask the order takers to repeat my order back to me as many times as possible, and STILL they will give me an order with mistakes. It's absolutely pathetic...this is fast-food, not rocket science. DO NOT COME HERE

Google
I won’t be coming back. Service used to be good, not anymore. Couple weeks ago completely forgot items in my order and burnt my bun. Now my fries were made wrong two times. How hard is it to fry lightly? It’s faster than frying them completely. A waste of money.

This now iconic burger joint was hopping late Friday night. There was a continuous stream of people ordering and eating. Every seat was filled at 10:30 pm. The burger was quite good! The fries, while they looked good, were not hot and seemed a bit undercooked. The chocolate shake... Well it tastes like a creamy vanilla that had a little bit chocolate added... 👎🏼👎👎🏿 I would definitely eat the burger again. My wife would get it with no bread, lettuce instead. I would ask them to cooked the fries extra crispy. The drinks are served yourself. Overall it is very affordable.

Haven't had In-N-Out in decades. The last time was in California. I was surprised and elated to discover that they had made their way to Texas. Lucky me. As soon as I stepped inside, I thought I stepped inside of a movie scene from the 1960s. But I loved the vibe. I got their double, and at first, I was wondering why my order was taking so long. Only to realize, they ACTUALLY COOKED the food. Not microwaving the patties like most fast food restaurants. And boy was it worth the wait. That first bite. I almost gave a Texan "Yeehaw!" Delicious. And the best part, the price wasn't overinflated like most franchises. The employees were extremely friendly as well, especially the short and young woman who took my order. She was such a hard worker. As I ate my burger, I observed her cleaning all the tables very meticulously

Google
The place is great! dont get me wrong. the food is very nice and the people are clear and kind the atmosphere is simple and not a really big deal, the workers do their job very good and deliver the food in time, but the restroom sink smells like absolute dog! whats up with that? maybe its just the soap but its good

Google
there was a lady working today 9/16/25 — i didn’t get her name but she was a brunette with glasses but she was SO friendly! she accommodated everyone with what they needed & did it with the biggest smile on her face. her work ethic is above & beyond!

Google
While the food (fries in general) is not exceptional, it is always consistently decent. I've never had a bad burger here. Drive through is incredibly efficient even with a long line. Location could be better but while the area itself is sketchy I've had no issues coming here after the sun sets. Security is usually present.

The burgers actually look like the pictures... and taste even better. Place is always clean, staff is friendly and burgers more than worth the price. Would eat there again 19.5/10

Yelp
Went during the early afternoon on a weekend. I don't think it was packed as it was a cold front week in the city so there wasn't a wait for me at all. It's a pretty regular in-n-out for me- the decor was there, the place was kept clean and the service was nice. They were kind and knowledgeable. I got the protein style, and others ordered the double and animal style fries. The flavor was there and the lettuce was fresh for me, the consistency was the same as other locations which I appreciate for a franchise. It's affordable and great for a quick bite. I do think if you order the protein style burger it might not be as filling, but it's to be expected.

Yelp
We stopped by In-N-Out hoping for a quick meal before heading to an event, but the experience was disappointing. It took around 30 minutes, which made us late (kind of not great for a place that's known for fast-food), and they got our order wrong. By the time we realized it, it felt like too much of a hassle to go back and wait in line again. This was especially frustrating because it was my first time back after being out of state for a while. I had been looking forward to In-N-Out, but the slow service and mix-up really soured the experience.

Yelp
I'm an EMT currently on duty. I ordered and asked for the EMS discount and Jeff the on duty manager said it's only for police officers. I said I'm on duty and pointed to my ambulance. I've been on duty for 7 hours now and won't get off for another 5-6 hours...6th day in a row...and only now been able to grab a quick bite. Not happy at all that I work just as much if not more hours than police officers and we don't get the same respect here. I've been to other In n Outs who happily gave me the discount. It's not about the discount but the respect for what we do...EMS includes police, EMT/Paramedics and Firefighters. Won't come here again.

Yelp
At first, I thought that the burgers were missing something and that they weren't hitting like they usually do, but that was just because I forgot to ask for grilled onions on it. All the food was amazing, although I wish for the animal style fries, they'd be a bit warmer since they just felt plain cold. The wait was a bit long, but that's just because there were a lot of people at the time. Place was bustling with customers, but that's expected of a place that makes their burgers like in n out and considering the time of the day (late night dinner/snack time). Make sure to try my go to meal of 3 double doubles, animal style fries, and a chocolate milkshake. I honestly could've had another double double because it was just that good.
google avatar

Steve C.

Yelp
The double-double with Grilled onions is amazing and I love the fries. The service delivery time was quite slow compared to normal at I&O.
google avatar

Rashaka B.

Yelp
This was supposed to be quick. The person in front of me in the drive through was a complicated order and person. The staff handled her and the situation with care. The food was cold as a result of the customer holding up the line. I did not like that. The staff did all they could but the process broke down as a result. I don't like cold food.
google avatar

Lana T.

Yelp
The burgers were okay but not really worth the hype. They were really salty, I would recommend going for an option that may be less salty.
google avatar

Dante B.

Yelp
It lives up to the hype try and in and out what I was on a trip to Texas. Had a double double and animal style fries delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
Service was fast and efficient. The food was hot and fresh. One of the best locations I've ever been to!

Yelp
I stopped by for lunch; the service was prompt and staff friendly. The food was fresh and delicious as always.

Yelp
Fresh never frozen. Everything was delicious and hot. Shakes here are the best!!! Shake machine is never broken lol.
google avatar

Yelp
This in n out keeps it really clean and nice. We had dinner there a couple times and please order animal fries!!! Great experience.
google avatar

Yelp
As far as fast food burgers go, In-N-Out is a good choice. Service wasn't as fast but the employees were friendly and helpful. I enjoyed being able to see them coming in the back and the kitchen and restaurant overall was very clean. Great choice for a quick bite.
google avatar

Yelp
In n out will always get a five stars from me. When missing L.A. , this is where we go. We always get the double double - animal style. Whick inly means there's grilled onions with dressing (i think it's thousand island). The fries is always good, always freshly made.

Yelp
I don't care what anyone else says, In-N-Out Burger hits every time even if you're vegetarian. Although they don't have a veggie patty, adding on some of their other toppings creates a worthwhile experience. I ordered an animal style grilled cheese which is actually just a veggie burger without the patty. It comes with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, house spread, and onions on bun. I then made it animal style and added chopped chilies. This added pickles, grilled onions, more house spread, pickles, and the chopped chilies. I also ordered animal style which is fries topped with their house spread, grilled onions, and cheese. I thought both the burger and fries tasted amazing for fast food. It definitely hit the spot and quenched my in-n-out cravings. Can they please open some on the east coast??? THANK YOU.

Sese B.

Yelp
Soooooo delicious so fast when I ordered one minute later my food is here deserves a five star but the only downside is that they have so limited options for food yet has sooo many different options for drinksfivestar

Luis R.

Yelp
Always have a great experience in this location. Their food quality is always consistent. Their burgers are great and also their shakes. Fries a bit soggy but made fresh. Would recommend this location!
google avatar

Stefan M.

Yelp
Got a chance to mark one off the ole check list. Would have enjoyed it better about 20years ago when I could eat what I wanted when I wanted. Good burger and fries. The service was pleasant too.

Yelp
All of the comparisons to Whataburger are unfair. They are two completely different animals. In-N-Out has a small menu focused on freshness and value, while Whataburger is more frozen and processed and at higher prices. The Double Double is a wonderful hamburger! Just the right size and proportions of soft, simple bun, seared beef, fresh veggies and gooey American cheese. And you can customize it in different ways. Find a list of secret customizations online and try a few. Plus the shakes are yummy. Fries are below average but better with "spread" (ask for it). What I don't get..Why is this In-N-Out location so light on customers? We stayed at a nearby hotel and every day it was nearly empty. It's so sad. Is it a Don't Californicate Texas play?? In-N-Out is owned by a lovely family that pays living wages and donates a lot to charity. Plus they hide Bible verses on packaging which should go over well in these parts.

Yelp
In Dallas for the weekend so thought I'd put forth an effort to see what all the hype was about. Few things to mention... 1. The staff was extremely welcoming and efficient 2. They gave me a box and paper to protect my seats from crumbs and possible grease spill 3. The meal was the perfect size for a single person 4. The fries were nothing special, unseasoned and dry #texaseats #foodiesofinstagram #flavorfaves #burgerjoint #inandoutburger #2 Single cheeseburger without onions I'd give it a 4.3 but not an option. All in all, not too shabby.

Yelp
It looks good and it also tasted good this was my first time eating at this place everything was great , but don't get me started on the burger why do y'all put a whole onion in the burger that's my only complain , breath finna be irking for a week .
google avatar

Yelp
I don't love fast food, but had to see what all the hype about In-N-Out Burger is.... I determined the Midwest is missing out. The fresh veggies, pillowy buns. Burger was the perfect greasy mix. I was less impressed with the fries. But hey, I slather in ketchup anyway. My favorites part was the shake-- which you can get a mix. I got vanilla and strawberry and it was perfect. Also, they ask you if you are eating in your car... if so they give you a lap matt and put everything in a box for easy eating. Luv it!
google avatar

Yelp
We were staying in Dallas and this awesome West Coast staple happened to be near the hotel we were staying! If you haven't had In-N-Out you've been missing out. Great burgers and simple menu. But you gotta know the tricks to ordering. Order your burgers animal style - comes with grilled onions and russian dressing and cheese Order your fries well done - it's fried twice and extra crispy. You can make that animal style also :) Order your meal to eat in the car so they serve it in a box tray instead of putting it in the bag. Allows for your fries to stay crispy and doesn't steam up your food so it's not soggy when you get home or to your hotel. This location is kinda round about to get to cause it's so close to the highway exit. But it was exactly what we needed after a night by Deep Ellum! Yelp 100 Challenge 86/100
google avatar

Annie M.

Yelp
This is based solely on the drive thru experience. I waited 12-13 minutes from when I ordered until I got my food. That's just way too long for a "fast food" restaurant.
google avatar

Juliet H.

Yelp
Ok! So, as a native Floridian I swore for the longest that the In-N-Out Burger fandom was a completely overhyped California/West Coast deal. (The West coast is good for overhyping things!-- don't attack me West coast friends! BWAHA!) Side bar: I still kinda' do share the same sentiments, but I will say that I understand it a bit more now. I'll sum it up in two words... ANIMAL STYLE. Wait, also SECRET SAUCE. And also, NON GREASY FRIES. And finally, also NOT GROSS. Sorry, that was 9 words! But, that's why! Yes, the hats on the staff are nice and the burgers have great toppings and trimming options, but other than that it's really just fast food. Despite the very loyal following, the actual burgers at In-N-Out very basic patties in buns that are nearly identical to any other fast food chain, right? But, the fact that I DO NOT eat at fast food burger joints-- ever, and I'll stop for In-N-Out (and Whataburger) says an awful lot. I also never feel sick or gross after consumption so, ... I've gotta' give it to 'em, I guess!

Yelp
So obviously the in-n-out burger speaks for itself but this location has the most friendly and attentive employees. Logan walked by our table multiple times and asked how we were doing. It was fast and friendly service. Would come back to this location just for that.

Yelp
Good fuud:) I like the food. It is rlly good. Especially the hamburgus. They are guyd. Very crispy and tasty! "Yum" - Pete Davidson

Yelp
Well I didn't expect to be far enough West for an In and Out...but my lucky day! Saw on a billboard and never would have crossed my mind. Same delicious burgers and fries with great prices as the west coast locations. Hot and fresh, smiling faces, fast service, everything to love. Wife from California was not travelling with me and she was jealous #sorrynotsorry.

Yelp
Visiting In-N-Out when available is a must for this ex-Californian. I was happy to find this one just down the road from the hotel I was staying at for the Winter Classic. It's odd to me to find In-N-Out without a crazy line. That's how it's been in Dallas though. So ordering was crazy fast and so was getting our food. The cashier was great, as expected. When I donated some cash to the charity on the counter (anti trafficking) they thanked me. I appreciate the courtesy. The food was excellent! Fries overflowing, burgers generous. My family loved it. I am meat free at places like this (no local, responsibly raised sources) so my grilled cheese and animal style fries were delicious! They also had black In-N-Out logo shirts that said Texas so I got some for the kids. $13 is pretty cheap, IMO. Overall this was a great example of why I miss In-N-Out in Nashville.

Gracie L.

Yelp
22 stars! This place is great. Food tastes like yum, service is incredible, and great price in this economy. Shout out to Colin that boy's a beast!
google avatar

Grace W.

Yelp
Fresh and delicious. I love their animal style fries and protein style cheeseburger. The only thing is it is usually a 10-15 minute wait since each order is cooked fresh. We go knowing this though and enjoy talking while waiting.
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
Pretty normal burger, nothing out of the ordinary but still fine. Animal Style fries are good and are worth the additional cost.
google avatar

Damon B.

Yelp
So... I'm a California native, and when I lived in Cali, I never went to In-N-Out. My parents didn't care for it, as they preferred Burger King. Well, I have not had Burger King in a while, but I have had a Double Double, not Animal Style (Why would you get it Animal Style, except to try and be cool) as I want to taste, you know the beef. The burgers are fantastic, and the fries are pretty good too. I get my fries crispy, and I have to admit, I like In-N-Out better than Whataburger. Stay hungry my friends...
google avatar

Marci D.

Yelp
We've always had good customer service at this location, but felt compelled to log on and highlight Logan, who helped us today. He was friendly, kind, efficient and joyful. He asked after us several times and was just such a wonderful presence in the restaurant. He was a real standout and we just wanted to let management know! Thanks, Logan!

Yelp
I've been wanting a burger and decided to come to in and out. I didn't want to spend too much on a burger nor felt like dining in. Placed my order for a regular cheeseburger and well done fries with no salt. I was surprised they gave me lots of onions, tomatoes and lettuce which was good, but then I felt like it was a vegetarian burger. I barely tasted the beef patty- it seem thinner than the last time I had a burger here. Overall service was quick and good.
google avatar

Daniel K.

Yelp
Jenny Rosas, you are amazing!! I came to this burger place because wingstop and subway didn't have a drive thru. As luck would have it, as soon as I pulled up, Jenny told me that their card machine was down and that the drive thru is closed. Mind you, the only reason why I couldn't go inside is because I was injured from a soccer game in Dallas, hence why I am even in this state to begin with. I was so sad that I told her about how I couldn't walk inside and how unlucky I was..so she said I can help take your order from the parking lot. She had memorized all the menu down to the onions, and went back and forth to take my order and explain the whole process. This is the core of customer service and when put in difficult situations, she was able to find a solution right away, she is brilliant, witty and clearly amazing, thank you Jenny!

Yelp
Huge fan of In N Lit. Always my go to. But this one was a bit lacking. Location was convenient. Right off a main intersection and right by the freeway. There's plenty of parking in the parking lot. And ample space for the drive thru. I was the only one in line at the drive thru at 10 on a Thursday night. Ordered a hamburger combo and a double double combo. Took about 20 minutes from the time I ordered my food until I got it. The excuse was I ordered fries well done. I get that but never in the history of going to INO have I ever waited that long. It was obvious that the extremely long line I side made up for the time lapse. It was pretty packed inside and I could see the employees seemed a bit frantic. Not like other locations where everything seems to be to retry smooth. Finally got my food and when I got to finally eat it it was cold. Reason being the ketchup and spread packets they put in the bag were practically frozen. So those were laying on our burgers and fries and completely cooled them down. All and all disappointed but still a huge fan of the brand. We all have our bad days.
google avatar

Victoria E.

Yelp
Good food at a great price how can you resist? Some friends and I stopped in after a party, since it was late our options were limited. I was pleased with the fact that there was no line so we were able to place our order right away. The guy at the register, Cody, was very polite and got our food to us pretty quickly. It's been a while since I've visited on of these restaurant chains and I've forgotten I'm not a fan of the fries but none the less the burger was delicious and the meal satisfied my late night hunger. Update: I may have spoken to soon. The day after consuming my meal my stomach was bubbling and I felt horrible. Definitely will never consume anything from this chain again. I will pay the extra money and go somewhere I know will not make me sick.

Yelp
Always a delight! So simple to order, burgers, fries, drinks and shakes. Sweet, simple and to the point! The burgers have always been fresh, and delicious. The shakes are so good. They are the perfect consistency. The staff is always helpful, and cleaning up when necessary. It's like a mild chick fil a bit for burgers. I will need IN-N-OUT to make their way to the OKC area.

Mike C.

Yelp
I was wrong- They are still here and going strong! You know what- The burgers seem pretty good now. Could be that Mel Sharples', owner of Mel's Diner had it right when he said "If you keep serving up crap, long enough, people will develop a taste for it." The fries still suck - hard! Bonus points if you know who Mel was without looking it up!
google avatar

Howard L.

Yelp
In-N-Out still makes a great double-double burger for only $3.80. But, compared to the flagship product in southern California, I found it to not be quite as tip-top stellar. I had the double-double "with the spread" which is what they call animal-style down here. Wife had a single burger with the spread. I think the thousand-island-like spread tasted slightly tangier than what I recall in SoCal and it also might have been slightly over-powering on the amount, but this is all just quibbling. Still a great stop and treat for us. McDonald's still rules on the fries, as it has for eons.
google avatar

Juan O.

Yelp
Great service! Trudy is a very nice lady, got my order right and gave me a ton of chili peppers (love them) and awesome customer service I ate in and she went above and beyond for EVERY customer. From getting them condiments, taking order out to our tables and keeping front end spot clean . Food was great fries were crispy sweet tea is always on point. Place was very clean will definitely be back. Did I mentioned Trudy was amazing! Made the meal that much better!!
google avatar

Victoria P.

Yelp
Very overrated! The burger was good but I was not impressed with the fries in the slightest. Just had to try it to get the picture honestly. Kind of reminds me of shake shack
google avatar

Jonathan M.

Yelp
I have good memories of this place because this is where my buddies and I would go before church service every Tuesday I always got a double burger with some fries and it hit the spot every time, but it didn't make a huge dent in my wallet I was satisfied without losing much money

David B C.

Yelp
Fast service at cashiers station. Friendly Helen epeated my order back correctly. I feel this light skinned black lady should be general manager. Food today was perfectly hot and delicious I've been overly upset at this place in the past But today was greatness. Clean table too. The fountain drink machine never disappoints me. Never on empty. Never out of drinks. Thank you.
google avatar

Michael K.

Yelp
I've never been to an In-N-Out not deserving of five stars. Come here, get the double double animal style, and marvel at what $4 can get you at America's finest fast food chain. Easily blows the greasy, expensive burgers they serve at that disgustingly orange striped chain everywhere in Texas out of the water. 5 stars.
google avatar

Felix J.

Yelp
What else can be said besides, "It's In-n-Out!" The food is spot in and consistent with all other locations I've visited. It was also just as clean and staff was just as friendly and efficient! Glad it was so close to my hotel.
google avatar

Alan G.

Yelp
You've got to try In-N-Out if you haven't. Great burgers and I love that they have Bible verses on their packaging. I ordered the single animal style which is a different way to order their food. Trust me - just try it if you get a chance. Not a big fan of their fries but their burgers are great. Location was good. Staff was super friendly as well.

Yelp
Excellent service. The table I selected was dirty. My mom was about to clean it but an employee came out immediately and wiped down the table and swept under the table. Can't get that at McDonald's or Wendy's
