In-N-Out Burger in NYC Mystery Appears to Be Solved | Eater NY

"I was fascinated when a perfectly wrapped Double-Double from the extremely popular West Coast chain turned up in Jamaica, Queens; the burger looked fresh, and the story behind it—pieced together after Lincoln Boehm posted the find—was that a 16‑year‑old Flushing student flew back from San Diego with four burgers, refused sauce and packed vegetables separately to preserve freshness, ate one on the flight, and later had a greasy bag split so a Double‑Double tumbled out; Boehm found it at about 6:30 a.m., corroborated the student's account via Instagram stories and text messages, and has since started selling T‑shirts with a fake Jamaica In‑N‑Out logo with proceeds going to the NYC Food Bank." - Carla Vianna

Google
Very good fast food restaurant. It gives me 5 guys vibes which I also love. I got the double double and fries. What can I say? It's a pretty good, fast food restaurant. My first time having it here in Texas. One of the locals ordered the flying Dutchman it was interesting and awesome

Manuel L.

Google
In-N-Out never disappoints! The food is consistently fresh, delicious, and satisfying. The burgers are perfectly cooked with just the right amount of crunch from the lettuce and juiciness from the tomato and beef patty. Their secret menu is a fun bonus—try the Animal Style for a game-changing experience. The fries, made fresh from real potatoes, are simple but addictive, especially when paired with their signature spread. The staff is always friendly, efficient, and attentive, even during busy hours. The restaurant is clean, well-organized, and has a classic, nostalgic vibe that adds to the experience. Whether you're a longtime fan or a first-timer, In-N-Out is a must-stop for anyone who appreciates quality fast food done right.

Google
As you expect, all the burgers, fries, and shakes from In-N-Out taste the same whether you are in California, Arizona, Texas, or any other location that In-N-Out have locations. Kudos to the company for consistency. For everyone who grew up in California and misses In-N-Out or where In-N-Out reminds them of home, this is for you.

Google
This is the WORST double-double I’ve ever seen! I always check my order and decided to question the female staff member about my burger. With an attitude she stated, “there’s two meats on there.” I had to pry open the thinest meat patties I’ve ever received from in-n-out apart. There was barely any cheese or grilled onions. The drive-thru was clean and the line moved pretty fast. NOTE: I ordered the same double-double from the 7th St. location and the burgers look completely different in my reviews.

Google
This location I have visited at least 4xs over the past 2 years each time I'm in town, and they have quick service and are friendly. The price is good and orders are always accurate! I wish all fast food joints brought back good old-fashioned service that doesn't pull you forward to wait 4 ur order! 9/10 !

Google
Was going to torchys and then when we got off the freeway I noticed that there is an in and out. I had no idea they were in Texas! Pulled in, and I was expecting a bit different take being Texas and all. However I was blown away, service was awesome, friendly and kind staff, and very clean! The food was the same, fresh veggies were consistent if not the same as any other in and out I’ve been to all over the west coast. Thanks for keeping it classic in and out style!

Zachary W.

Google
Love In-N-Out! The food and service is just so consistent, you always know what to expect. Sometimes, there is a burger person who stacks everything so perfectly. It looks straight out of an advertisement. They are so good at their craft, the burger is beyond perfect. I usually get double double animal style or 3x2 animal style. Extra special sauce please! Pickles are my jam.

Ed S.

Google
How I love this place! The burgers are hot and fresh. The service is FAST. and the workers: so happy and friendly, wonderful to deal with. So... everything is great: the food, the prices, the staff, the atmosphere. I'm happy to stop by here as often as I can. What a nice place to grab perfect food like a burger and vanilla shake.

Yelp
I wasn't always In-n-Out Burgers biggest fan. I've since come around. This place is great. My biggest sticking point with In-N-Out has always been the fries. They're fine, but they've never been my favorite. I recently learned that if you ask, they will make them crispier. I guess they fry them longer or something? I dunno. Whatever they do, it makes them so much more appealing, at least to my palate. I've also been asking for my burgers to have grilled onions the last few times I visited. Like the fries, this small difference makes things so much better. My first couple of visits to In-N-Out weren't the best. But as I said in the opening, I've come around. My last several visits here have been wonderful. Good burgers are a joy and this place delivers. Couple all that with the fact that I hear they really treat their employees well, it makes it easy to want to visit this chain when I'm in the mood for a fast food burger. If you've never tried this spot, consider giving them a try. And if you're a regular, then you don't need me to tell you how good it can be. I just wanted to update my old review to something more in line with my current feelings for this fun burger place. Enjoy!

Yelp
This was a last minute im-in-the-mood-for-a-burger decision. Since moving here from NE, I have made a point to not eat and the "other joints" you know the ones that have arches and kings or whatever. So This location had me in and out, and I know that it the point, but sometimes there is a wait. I don't know what fully staffed looks like, but there were a boatload of folks moving and shaking to get orders out. The kid who took my order was polite and even had the extra bit of texas charm that I am starting to notice. The food was hot and fresh and overall I had a decent experience. Did not eat in, but the dining room was clean and there was a crew member in the process of wiping down tables as I was walking out.

Yelp
Always have to stop and an In and Out when I am close. Place was crazy busy as usual with cars lined up around the building. I went inside and found a packed house and a friendly smiling face behind the counter to take my order. 1 Double Double with onions , fries and a drink as always. Food came out fairly quick and sat down to eat. Salty! I was shocked at how salty the burger was, I have had plenty of these all over the states and never had one like this. Everything else was a fresh and delicious as ever. Hope it was a fluke. Still going back when I can. I have never seen an empty restaurant, dining areas are always full and loud with chatter from customers and orders being called out it is a long way from the original double drive thru in the original ones.

Yelp
Service from BRI , around 11:48 at night the service was amazing. Coming BRI she was so sweet , fast paste and was being so kind.

Yelp
This is the WORST double-double I've ever seen! I always check my order and decided to question the female staff member about my burger. With an attitude she stated, "there's two meats on there." I had to pry open the thinnest meat patties I've ever received from in-n-out apart. There was barely any cheese or grilled onions. The drive-thru was clean and the line moved pretty fast. NOTE: I ordered the same double-double from the 7th St. location and the burgers look completely different in my reviews.

Yelp
In n out is still my favorite fast burger. Grew up with it and they never fail me! We usually get double double protein style with the works. Messy but the best !!! Animal fries when I'm being "bad". Service is always perfect and the price is right! Clean clean clean !!!
google avatar

Yelp
In-N-Out is a banging burger! Now... If you are an In-N-Out nah-sayer, no worries. I used to have one of those in my house, until I discovered he was ordering all wrong! So here's the main rules of ordering: 1. You have to get a double cheeseburger or higher. For example, I get a double but my husband who is 6'5'' with a hunger of a growing boy gets a 4x4. 2. You have to get double grilled onions. 3. You have to get your fries well done. The exact order that changed my nah-sayer husband into a believer: a 4x4 cheeseburger, extra grilled onions and everything on it. Fries extra well done. Drink of choice. My go-to order / if you're an average sized Joe: a double cheeseburger, extra grilled onions and everything on it. Fries extra well done. Diet Pink Lemonade. The service at this restaurant is great! We've always had very polite young women or men help us. Bonus, the drive thru goes very quick! Going back? Definitely, it's our go-to for a fast or late night dinner.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
Not very quick you can't go in-n-out in a timely manner but the food is delicious. Line in the drive was backed up to the street. Not too unusual for in-n-out. The girl at window one was chatting with another worker I sat there for about a minute before she turned around and took my card, again the line all the way to the street is what makes that even worse. Second window was quick and efficient my order was sitting there patiently waiting on my inpatient self. Food was delicious.

Yelp
stopped off ate inside not so busy yet no one ordered before i did and my order took a long time to be called after i ordered 2 dbl dbl monster n 2 monster fries after waiting 15 minutes i went and asked how long more employees just clowning around n giggling an act that is expected at mcdonalds but not at in n out seemed drive thru was their point of attention as they kept pumping out orders for cars finally my order was given to me sad

T S.

Yelp
Just stopped in for a quick bite and Jack was the cashier. What a lovely young man, very helpful and patient. He was polite and courteous which is rare these days in young people. We will be back!
google avatar

Scott S.

Yelp
In-N-Out is my guilty pleasure. The food is delicious and the milkshakes are fresh made. It tells you something when the restaurant is super busy every time you come to visit! That being said, they are still very friendly and quick to get orders done. If you don't know about their secret menu, google it and spice up your next order!
google avatar

Destinee R.

Yelp
I wasn't always a burger fan but oh my gosh they never fail to exceed my expectations! These are always so fresh and so delicious !! The service is always top tier! Very kind people :) this is a nice chill environment to chill with your friends after a game or something lol.
google avatar

Brittany F.

Yelp
Great service. However - I absolutely don't think it's necessary for someone to be in the 90+ TEXAS HEAT taking orders. I was very taken back by that. Yes the lines get long but if we're in the drive thru we saw the line & decided to sit in it. Food- Never order the fries because I know I personally don't care for them. Burgers- Cheap & Good. Haven't gone inside in quite a while. Can't speak to the cleanliness to indoor dining
google avatar

Grace H.

Yelp
I haven't had this in so long, but it's so good. I am a huge fan of the sauce, which if you ask for sauce, they'll give you more. I got the normal cheeseburger with all the fixings which includes onions, and honestly, the onions make the sandwich. Price wise, it's really reasonable. The French fries, to be honest, is NOT that good. It's a little too chewy and almost has a dense and spongy texture, not a fan. The employees were super nice and quick.

Betty P.

Yelp
Everything there is good, manners, prices and food and ambiance is nice, clean and neat., service is excellent, kids are very polite and bilingual, what is a plus.

Yelp
Usually it's better than what I got today! The service was not friendly and the guy at the pick up window in drive thru was kinda rude and didn't say anything to me he was not the one with the head set on! I asked for some spread and pepper packets and a Chilli cup? Seems simple enough right? I got salt packets and no pepper I asked the Young girl to correct it for me and she just glared at me and went and got the pepper and handed to me in a way that most of it did not make it in my hand! And no Chilli peppers in the bag I was not going to ask them for those considering the attitude of both the employees I dealt with! Let's get to the burger I asked for whole grilled onions and what I got was 1/2 way between grilled and raw onions which threw the taste of my burger off! Yes it was hot and very crunchy with the 1/2 cooked onions I'm sorry if I wanted raw onions I would of asked for them! I had to pull them off my burger and that took a lot of the cheese off of it too! I drove from weatherford just to get in and out and like I said they usually at right on point just not today with the care in the food and down to the service! No even a thank you when I left! I'll give them a shot again but today was a waste of my gas and time

Yelp
I was so excited for this burger that I didn't care about the rest of my trip to Texas haha. Originally from Georgia we don't have in-n-out burger and I have to say I was dying to see what the noise was about this place. For starters, I love the layout and the open kitchen showing the process of making the burgers and fries. The communication between the staff and customers is really good for the most part. The cashier was nice, friendly and knowledgeable. The pink lemonade was good but nothing amazing. On the bottom end of things the animal fries were pretty much a disaster. The fries tasted like they've been sitting for hours. Stale, soggy and no sort of flavor. The onions were burnt and had a greasy taste. The burger really saved the experience. It's was a really good burger with nice proportions of veggies, bun and meat.
google avatar

Yelp
Fast service. Not crowded at the drive-thru. Easy peasy!! Great stop on the way home!!

Sean C.

Yelp
Honestly, they don't know the difference between a hamburger and a cheeseburger because I ordered hamburger and then asked them for a hamburger just like it and they gave me a cheeseburger with everything wrong on it so just make sure they do right by you
google avatar

Yelp
Oh my goodness! How I have missed this incredible fast food burger paradise! We moved to a state that doesn't have In and Out. How are they different from all the other fast food burgers? Let me count the ways: 1). Quality buns. The impotence of the bread in a burger is often overlooked. Heavens knows it's overlooked by my husband who will buy quality meat and put it on a dry low quality budget bun. That's like buying top quality gin and mixing it cheap tonic. It's lie trying to mix expensive scotch with coke. Trying that got my husband and his friends carded when they were young. In and Out uses quality melt in your mouth buns to go with their quality meat. 2) Quality meat to go with the quality buns. 3) fresh onion. Other burger places offer onion whether it's sliced or chopped. In and Out gives you a nice thick slice of onion that is so fresh, it will knock your socks off...and your shoes, too. 3) The tomato. I don't know what it about the tomato, but somehow the fresh tomato and the fresh onion dance around in your mouth and do wonderful things. 4) The sauce is wonderful. I usually just like mustard, but their special sauce blends so well with the melt in your mouth soft bread , the quality beef, the heavenly fresh tomatoes and onions, and the incredibly crispy crunchy potatoes. Oh, how miss you In and Out!

Andrew D.

Yelp
Excellent service, as usual. The drive thru line was packed, but Kori helped us and was fantastic!

Christian M.

Yelp
Kori (drive thru first window) is the sweetest person ever. LOVE HER, so positive and friendly :)
google avatar

Stephanie M.

Yelp
Best Burger Ever! If you want your veggies fresh not soggy or lettuce that's not brown this is the place to go! Don't be discouraged if the drive through is long or the parking lot is full. They are fast and food's always fresh! Best thing that came from California to Texas, well except my my husband that is!!!
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
This place never disappoints. My wife goes with the traditional single cheeseburger and I always get the double-double protein-style. Always consistent, always hot, the cheese is always, melty, and the taste is fantastic. I recommend ordering the fries well done, and they come extra crispy and golden brown.
google avatar

Eva P.

Yelp
I thought I'd give it another shot and nope, still not feeling these burgers. Under seasoned tiny meat patty, cold buns and uneventful fries. The fries taste almost stale which they are not. Just not my thing. But the service was excellent and it was super clean.

Desere S.

Yelp
The food, service, and ambiance are great. The reason I'm writing this review is because I accidentally gave sass to the employee in the drive -through when I asked for extra chillies. Seriously though, putting 2 chillies in the container is a joke and a waste of plastic, you can definitely fit at least 2 more chillies in there. However, my anger was misplaced, dear In-N-Out employee, as I am sure you did not create this policy... please have a great rest of your shift.
google avatar

Kelly S.

Yelp
I am such a fan of In and out Burger that I will always fine time to grab a bite whenever I am near one! So visiting Fort Worth was no different, I made my coworker go with be to grab dinner here one night. (we even took an uber here lol) Only a few people in line when I arrived, but it moves pretty fast. Service is friendly, fast and accurate. I ordered a cheeseburger, extra onions, spread, no tomatoes and an order of animal fries (extra onions!) As always everything was amazing, cooked to perfections and boy do I love that spread on everything. Went with a soda, free refills... made sure to take one to go. In and out is fast food but it's so delicious.. don't change!

Emily M.

Yelp
It was our first time ever at In and Out, and Kori was amazing! Burgers were delish, too!
google avatar

Dawn E.

Yelp
RAW burger purchased today. Cold in the middle! First and last time we eat here. Took forever as well.
google avatar

Demitri M.

Yelp
Get the 4x4! Add chiles on the side, a strawberry shake and let the drive thru take care of you
google avatar

Justin E.

Yelp
Never had a problem with this location, the food is always on point, and the people that work here are always nice, much better than the Jack In The Box next door and you can tell by how busy it usually is that the food is good

Alfonso G.

Yelp
The hamburgers are good, not quite as I rem mejor in Los Ángeles when they first opened, they keep the menu original. The buildings are hollow, try to hard to recapture the vintage restaurant
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
I love In-N-Out, but I guess I'll start ordering my party well done. I'm all for a medium rib eye, but when it comes to my hamburger I prefer the temp a little more well done. The service & ingredients are always the best of quality, and eating low carb I like my "Protien Style" Double Double...add pickle. Tip: order well done next time
google avatar

John A.

Yelp
This restaurant was built right next to my office a few years ago but I never had an inclination to come because I'm not big on burgers. Recently someone gave me a card for a free lunch so here I am having a "free lunch ". I had a Double Double with Cheese and Fries, the burger was good, better than those of the two largest chains but the fries were quite average. It was raining when I came and they give free hot chocolate on rainy days, a nice touch, so I had one with marshmallows, if I had to pay for it I would.

Lupe H.

Yelp
Burger is great but everytime I bite , I almos eat the inner layer which is brown like the burger. Bet kids eat that all the time.
google avatar

Theresa H.

Yelp
I saw the sign off the Highway I got off the next exit, I was so excited they had one in Texas, being though I only saw them on the West Coast.I had my first burger in San Francisco,CA and fell in love at first bite, flavorful and juicy, don't care for the shoe string fries I like my fries bigger. I wish they would come to the East Coast!

Yelp
I'm from New Jersey about 25 minutes outside of Philadelphia and I've never had an In-N-Out Burger prior to today. I've listen to Howard Stern since the late 1980's and I've always heard people and celebrities on his show rave about how great, not good, but great In-N-Out Burgers are. The menu is very small and simple which I think is a good thing, keep it simple, make it fresh and make it great! In my opinion 2 out of 3 ain't bad. The Burger was simple and fresh but far from great. A McDonald's Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese and a Double Whopper with Cheese from Burger King whoops the ass of the In-N-Out Double Cheese Burger. McDonald's fries are also better. And forget about 5 Guys, In-N-Out isn't even in their league. Price was fair, Burger and Toppings fresh but the fries I had were dry, almost like a potato stick. Went inside to order and the staff was friendly and the place was spotless! Glad I tried it but it for me, as far as Burgers go, it was underwhelming and I don't plan on eating another In-N-Out Burger. If ya haven't tried them before, your a big fan of a great Burger and you've heard the hype, I highly suggest you give it a try and see how it holds up to your current favorite Fast Food Burger.

Yelp
I had the best cashier experience with Doris MC at a busy lunch hour on Thursday. I ordered a double double burger with spread, lettuce, tomatoes, and onion with fries and a drink because I had received a free meal card a while back for volunteering. Once I handed it over, she kindly said that she wished I would've shown that to her at the beginning because she wanted to make sure I got the most of the card. I ended up ordering a strawberry milkshake instead of a fountain drink. Talking to her made me feel comfortable and happy. Seriously, it was the best interaction I've ever had with a fast food cashier/employee. The double double was delicious. I like that they toast the buns, so it has a little crispiness. The fries were so-so. They were hot and crispy, but they were severely lacking salt. The strawberry milkshake was oh so satisfying and a nice treat. This meal would've cost $8.20, which is not too bad for a lunch near downtown. Plus it was enough food to share with another person. Overall, this was a great experience. The employees were friendly and prompt. In case you want to work here, they are hiring! I posted a picture of the details.

Yelp
I know, this might be "anti-Texas" since it's a burger joint that doesn't start with a W, but I don't care! I love In-N-Out, because, as a gluten sensitive person, I can eat "protein style" burgers and cheeseburgers, which means no bun but instead wrapped in fresh iceberg lettuce. I'm told the shakes are delish - not too sweet or thick and very cool and creamy. Hear mixed things about the fries, but I'm a no fries girl ;-) NOTE: Reaching this location is quirky from Hulen Street or I-30, so be patient as you follow your map app for your first time. Once you learn where to enter/turn, you'll be like "Oh, that's not easy but totally doable."
google avatar

Akava K.

Yelp
Well when I had my 1st in-N-out burger was in San Diego. It was good so I was surprise when I got to texas there was one. As u know all there fries are Frish if not now u do they cut them from real potato's and there meat never frozen. If u want to get tricky u can use the hidden menu. That is always fun and yes in Dallas they have one to.
google avatar

Amy J.

Yelp
This was my mom's very first experience at In-N-Out & it was GOOD! She was impressed by the secret sauce & tasty fries!

Kimberly V.

Yelp
Just went and they gave me the wrong order of fries in and box which I touched. I told her I'll give them back but she shouldn't serve them since I already touched them and she packaged them for the car behind us. Honestly just makes me wonder if I've gotten food someone else has touched..........

Lance M.

Yelp
The only saving grace for the burger is the sauce. The fries although fresh lacked flavor.

Caprece H.

Yelp
The best in n out fries I have had quick service and the ambience of the brand a familiar lunch/dinner

Lily B.

Yelp
First time going there and they were rude. Food was not good and was very salty. Do not recommend.

Charles L.

Yelp
In and Out's burgers are usually good but the quality of the buns over the last two plus years has not been good. The buns crumble in your hands. In addition the whole grilled onions are sometimes difficult to eat because sometimes they don't peel off the outer layer underneath the papery skin.
google avatar

Tatyana B.

Yelp
When I moved to Texas I was SOOOO glad to learn that they had In&Out Burger's around. I used to live in California for some time and went once a week. At this location I've been to both the drive-thru and inside. There's plenty of parking. Lot's of space inside to eat as well, but I usually go through the drive-thru. Takes less than 10 min for what I order even 5pm on a Friday. The wait inside is a bit longer then the drive through (at least if you go during lunch when it's super busy). Service is always friendly. I usually order the cheese burger with everything and a side of fries. I give it 4 stars only because the fries are sometimes soggy and a few times have been too salty. When I ordered animal style it was also EXTREMELY salty. I've tried the fries in Cali and they were not like that. Other than that the burger is usually very delicious, the bun slightly toasted but soft. The meat is always flavorful and the sauce is usually on point. Only thing that needs work are the fries they are inconsistent but other than that amazing :)
google avatar

Jinn C.

Yelp
Always happy visiting the west coast to have some in n out :) flavor is always on point with fast service!
google avatar

Nancy Ann M.

Yelp
As always In and Out does not disappoint. Wonderful chain with consistently good service. Food is always good. Today I learned about "animal style" which is mustard fried with thousand island dressing and crispy onions. Definitely with the wait!
