In-N-Out Opens Its First Washington State Restaurant | Eater Portland

"Set to open at 10:30 a.m. sharp at 5801 N. Pioneer Canyon Drive in Ridgefield, this long‑anticipated outpost is billed as the Portland area’s first‑ever “cheeseburger” restaurant and will surely draw lines of piqued Portlanders. Hailing from Southern California, where the famed sandwich was birthed, its arrival has been hotly tracked by local press—down to permits and the so‑called “secret” menu—while ordinary citizens have been photographing the construction like a two‑headed calf. Novelty doesn’t stop at the “cheeseburger”: as a drive‑thru, customers can order, pay, and even eat without leaving their cars." - Harry Cheadle

In-N-Out’s Portland-Area Expansion Plans, Explained | Eater Portland

"I learned that In-N-Out is eyeing a Ridgefield location in Union Ridge Town Center—about 30 minutes from downtown Portland—and that this would be the company’s first store in Washington state, with the brand indicating plans for Southwestern Washington “by 2025.”" - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

In-N-Out Eyes Ridgefield for Its First Washington State Location | Eater Portland

"After filing a development application with the city of Ridgefield, In-N-Out is pursuing what would be the chain’s first Washington location near the under-construction Ridgefield Costco at Union Ridge Town Center on Pioneer Street just west of I-5. Mike Abbate, the company’s vice president of store development, confirmed the filing and wrote that “it is still very early in the development process,” noting the team is hopeful as they work with the city on permits and approvals; however, the application does not guarantee the restaurant will be built. Documents show a proposed 4,354-square-foot building with a covered patio, 76 parking stalls, and a drive-thru designed to accommodate 46 cars, and the site plan would depart from In-N-Out’s usual white/red/yellow color palette to incorporate darker colors and different building materials as desired by the city. Because construction cannot begin until permits are approved and In-N-Out locations typically take eight to nine months to open from the start of construction, any opening remains uncertain and likely not imminent." - Janey Wong

Google
My first time trying In-N-Out. Ordered the Double Double and fries, both animal style. The burger was not bad. Super messy but good. The pickles were surprisingly good too. I wouldn’t say I need to come back but definitely a good drive through burger. The wait in line was not long at all and they had lots of people helping smooth the cars through quickly and efficiently. Overall good. Was expecting more from all the hype. But not bad at all.

I drove almost 160 miles to visit In-N-Out Ridgefield, full of excitement and nostalgia. But honestly, it was just an average burger. 🍔 Maybe it’s because I hadn’t had one in a long time, but it felt a bit too greasy and heavy. I ordered the Protein-Style Double-Double and Animal-Style fries, both were flavorful but overwhelmingly rich. It was still nice to finally try it again — just not quite worth the long drive. 🚗

Wanted to see what the hype was about, so we were excited to seize the opportunity after church today! The traffic and traffic cones, I’ll admit were challenging. But honestly living in this area we all should be accustomed by now. We apologize to the car we cut off in the mid-point merger, as it was our first time, we didn’t quite understand the flow. The food; fries did have a unique taste, I imagine the sunflower oil might have something to do with that. Also, they weren’t overly greasy, salty, or sweet like other fast food fries, to us they seemed more natural. The cheese burgers were flavorful, balanced and well proportioned. I hope you really like onions if you decide to accept that option as it’s an entire slice. 😁Consider omitting on date-night. 😎 All employees were pleasant and helpful, with our food server offering us the prettiest Smile! ❤️ That alone for being car number 102, 45 minutes after opening was impressive! The surprise factor I forgot to mention, really reasonably priced especially in this economy. Thank you!!

Got here on a Monday morning for some brunch action. Parked and walked in. Waited maybe 1-2 minutes in line, ordered, then waited about 10 minutes for my #1. Excellent presentation, delicious flavor, and a little slice of SoCal now in SW WA! I typically do NOT like their fries, but they were extremely fresh and crispy! Thoroughly enjoyed my time here. The staff were extremely nice and helpful. I even saw them picking up trash on the ground whenever they popped out from behind the counter for one reason or another. Lots of synergy at this location!! I also got a shirt. They’re pre-shrunk. I’d recommend a size-up if you like it relaxed fit. They’re pretty snug. Will definitely be back!

My friend and I stopped here yesterday on our way back from the McMinnville Airshow since we were heading back home and needed to go this direction anyway. So we heard this place opened about a month ago and we decided we wanted to give it a go. We did hear it is very popular so there is a chance we will have to wait in line which was fine for us because we weren't in a rush to get home. We were trying to decide whether it was better to dine in or go to the drive thru when we pulled in we figured it was better to go to dine in which is what we did. We probably waited in line for about 20 minutes which was not bad we were socializing with some of the people behind us and telling us about their In N Out experience which helped pass the time fast and they were very friendly. Once it was our turn we were ordering our food and I saw they had an In N Out T-shirt and we couldn't resist it did add our total bill to around $30 but I was completely fine with that because I did really want it so yeah. Food probably took around 15 minutes which wasn't bad and again my friend and I were in no rush and if we were we probably would've gone somewhere else because we knew and figured there be some waiting that we would have to do. Since we weren't in a hurry everything was all good and waiting in line and waiting for our food both didn't take very long. It was very crowded inside which explains why there was a line outside because they didn't wanna go over capacity or at capacity. Service was absolutely fantastic and friendly everyone looked liked they really enjoy their jobs vs if you go to McDonald's everyone looks like they hate their jobs. I really hope employees get paid well here they 100% deserve it considering how popular this place. I also hope they are all being treated well especially for all this hard work for all these customers. I hear customers travel a long way just to get In N Out. My friend was talking with someone who lives in Seattle and she told him she traveled all the way from Seattle to this In N Out which comes to show that people travel a long way for this which explains why the line is so long. All I will say is if you are in a hurry I would not recommend this place because you will most likely have to wait in line and if you have to be somewhere quick you cannot predict when you will be able to head out but if you aren't in a hurry then I do highly recommend this place trust me when I say it is worth the wait I know the waiting sucks but believe me it is worth it! This was a fun experience both my friend and I really enjoyed it and hope to be back again someday. I can now officially say I went to the new In N Out!

Google
In-N-Out Burger is just the best! Everything tasted like heaven! I drove all the way from Vancouver, BC, Canada for 5 hours (almost 6) just to have in n out! I miss having in n out every time I go to California and from my huge US road trip back in summer 2025 where I had in n out multiple times and now since it’s the first in n out in Washington I’m happy to have it at least a bit closer to home despite still being very far! The animal style burgers were amazing, hot and fresh, the animal style fries were fresh and crisp (fries tasted like cardboard but they’re fresh and delicious!) and the drinks are amazing! Service was fast and reliable, from ordering to getting my food it took only 10 minutes! Will be back again in the future! And welcome to Washington, In-N-Out!

Google
Was this In-N-Out busy? Yes, but it depends on what time you go. One time I went I had to wait about 30 minutes to get my food another time I went I only had to wait 5 minutes. It was worth the wait. I'm originally from California and In-N-Out with something I was able to enjoy regularly so the fact that it's in Washington now is exciting and I definitely will be going here often when I'm in the area. I have an EV so the nice thing is, is if you need to charge there's a Costco within a few minutes walking distance and they're also adding some charging stations next door to the In-N-Out. I was able to charge while I enjoyed my In-N-Out.

Google
Burgers are YUM! Fries are average nothing WOW about it. The Spreads is good too. And the service was GREAT! With all the craziness going on in the back EVERYONE kept a POSITIVE ATTITUDE and SMILED!!! I wish they made this place BIGGER. It’s too small for it to be the first In-N-Out in WA. The parking is still under construction but understandable! It was worth the 4hrs drive though❤️💛✅ We’ll be coming back for another Burger run! lol OH , and the price is PHENOMENAL!!! Super affordable!!!

Yelp
A lot of us have had In-N-Out so we all know what we should be expecting. For being open just a little over 2 weeks I was actually impressed. The whole parking lot was a cluster(at least getting to it). The drive thru line was RIDICULOUS. We opted to park and get it to go. The line was out the door and the inside was wall to wall with people. It literally took us 20 minutes from getting in line to walking out with our food. Quality was up to standards(we've had it a few times in our life). ALL of the staff were friendly and courteous. From greeting to opening doors and cleanliness everything was knocked out of the park. They are building many things around it and I am positive this will be a very busy location for quite some time.

Yelp
Driving thru Ridgefield approx 3 weeks after this stores opening. Looked at the lines and tried to get off to catch the store right at opening. But at 10:45 already line to the freeway and lines out the door. Looked to be about an hr wait min. In the time we would wait we actually made it to the area of the Keizer location One of the reviewers mentioned that unless you were "really jonesing for an In-n-Out" it wasn't worth the wait. I say if you are really jonesing for an In-n-Out you need to drive yourself to Redding and get the real experience form folks that really understand what it means. But even then, don't expect the flavor we once knew. Because it's just not the same anymore

Yelp
2nd trip today. Went inside, arriving at 10:20 and they'd already been serving for a bit because I was #89 (official daily opening time is 10:30 am). Very organized and efficient. Was able to order by 10:30 and received order at 10:50. Very fresh and delicious. Despite how busy they are, staff members are pleasant and smile a lot! Dining room is average sized (as In-N-Outs go). It was completely full and kept very clean. Cheeseburger with a grilled whole onion slice hit the spot!

Yelp
Expertly handling massive crowd while serving famous food is why In and Out is worth the wait and money! Every single employee was smiling and all the patrons seemed equally happy, which is what I think is part of what makes WA so great! Do not miss a double double with a chocolate shake, you won't be disappointed! My daughter loves her fries animal style so of course we had those too! The parking control workers were all friendly and we waited over an hour to get food and had a great time being part of the HYPE! I confess I'm from California so having a bit of home was a wonderful treat on a Saturday

Yelp
I wish I could give it 10 stars. Always fresh, always the same great taste. Being from so cal I really missed having this place around but now we will have multiple locations in Washington. Service is always great. Greeted with a friendly hello and smile. Thank you In n Out for the great food and service.

Yelp
Great! It was about a 30 minute drive to Ridgefield from Se Vancouver, but it was worth the drive. Originally from California, it was good to have a little Pattie from home. The drive through service was good. Our order was taken by friendly staff and rechecked before we drove up to the window. Everyone gave clear and concise information and our order picked up was perfect!! Our burgers and fries were delicious. Definitely looking forward to the Mill Plain venue opening up, as the drive will only be 2 miles .

Yelp
As far as fast food places go, this place is cheap, fresh, and delicious. Unfortunately the OR/WA wait time is a whole ordeal that definitely isn't 'worth it' but if there was no wait and regular lines, it would be my go to. Specifically the milkshakes! This is the first time I had one here and it's creamy and velvety smooth. Burgers are also very good! Fun to play it up and get the additional special items on it- same with the fries. Hopefully the next one will open and the crowd can disperse a bit

Yelp
Washington finally got its first in and out burger and it opened 8/20. I'm in heaven. I hella wanted one last night. Woke up and couldn't shake the craving. So I picked some up for me and the fam. 4th day open and it was efficient!! They're currently renting out the gravel lot to manage traffic to be good business neighbors to Costco, etc. I saw (via socials) they were opened earlier than posted hours temporarily for the new hype. I got in the drive through line at 8:30am. At 9:02 order was in. 9:14 paid. 9:16 bag in hand. Other new locations have stated hours and hours of waiting. Gotta say getting there early it was less of a wait than even some established CA sites. This Cali kid is very happy and grateful. Also for the people that don't know, if you have kids, ask for stickers, (paper) hats, and the coloring pack (pix for ref). They are free. One disclaimer for new I&O folks: do not go in comparing their fries to any other fast food joints fries. They have their own category. Think of them more like chips. Kind of like kettle chips will never be a ruffles chip. It is its own lane of fries. If you ask them "extra well" they will be super crunchy and more like a potato chip. I don't love their fries but my family does. Getting my burger lettuce wrapped (protein style) and no fries makes me love a cheap, fresh low carb burger for $5. Can't beat it!! Don't eat a lettuce wrapped burger in the car it's a mess. Always bring it home and have a ton of napkins ready lol I also get it without the sauce and ask for sauce packets at the food window so I can manage the mess (and macros if I'm tracking them). Shout out to the cops and security peeps who are standing in 100F weather directing folks in traffic. Smooth as butter.

Yelp
For first week of opening, they were knocking it out of the park. We went and stood in the dine in line a few days after opening and it took us about 45 min total from getting in line to getting our food. Restaurant was super clean, they had it running so well organized, and all of the employees were so helpful and friendly. They were packed in that kitchen but it was working like a well oiled machine! No one was stumbling over each other and they worked together so well. Parking and drive through was well organized. I appreciated the coverings for the dine in line, as it was HOT outside. But not hot enough to keep people coming in droves for some delicious burgers. Food was great. Just as amazing as I remembered from years ago. We were so stoked to get an In n Out here and can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Came here 3 times before leaving a review. So far ive been happy with the service and no problem but the long line of demand sucks but hopefully it will go away. Jacob who helped me and my friend went through his way to make sure our order went smoothly and was super friendly that you dont get service like that these days. I love having the double double burger, quality, plus the price. The place was clean and looks acceptable.
google avatar

Yelp
Finally went and tried this out! The wait in the drive thru is much longer than dining in/carry out so we waited in line for carry out. We were done with the whole process within 30 minutes! The burger is definitely good!! The fries are NOT GOOD! They have the texture of kinetic sand!! A lot of people have said their fries aren't good so it's a common complaint. Glad I tried it and I don't have to go back. It's good but there are way better burger places around! But the service is above and beyond and everyone working there were good choices for employees. Smiling, friendly and helpful throughout all the stress!

Yelp
Well, after all the months of anticipation and hype, In-N-Out is finally here. We have been to their locations a number of times in California. When they opened in our home town, we had to welcome them to the neighborhood. At lunchtime on the second day open, we were in & out in about an hour. Their staff behind the counter were a veritable bee hive, working at breakneck speed to crank out everyone's food. They had awning tents so we didn't have to stand in the hot sun, which was nice. We waited for 25 minutes before we were ushered inside, where we went directly to the counter to place our order. We saw lots of staff wiping down tables and making sure everything was neat & tidy. They are trying really hard and deserve accolades or that. On to the food. Somehow I remember the food being a little better in California. I ordered my cheese burger "animal style", off their not-so-secret menu, for those in the know (genius marketing). I was disappointed I could barely detect those famous grilled onions and the rest of the goo that is known as "animal style". It wasn't even messy to eat. Did they forget to train their staff it's supposed to be loaded with all the goodness? I should've known, when the guy who took our order thought you only get cheese if you order a cheeseburger animal style. But it's supposed to come with extra cheese. So next time I'll have to ask about that. My husband got a couple of normal hamburgers. He was underwhelmed. He also got animal style fries but the fries are pretty bad. I know they say all their food is fresh & all but they really need to work on their fries. They reminded me of fries left in the freezer too long in a bag left open. Dry, flavorless...They could be so much better. My husband's shake was strawberry and mine chocolate, but if I didn't know what kind mine was supposed to be I wouldn't be able to guess. I had to use my imagination to detect chocolate. My husband said his strawberry shake was lacking in flavor as well. Maybe they need some quality control because I've never had a complaint about In-N-Out's shakes. I'm disappointed by the food in Ridgefield's In-N-Out. Are they overwhelmed by the shear numbers? I hope they improve because now I know they aren't all created equal. Go ahead and stand in the line (I hear it's shorter than the drive up) so you can see for yourself. You have to experience it at least once. But I do feel sorry for you if you are driving down from Seattle just for this.
google avatar

Kirby P.

Yelp
Passing through Ridgefield & my group & I saw this from the highway. We could see the crowd & the line before getting off the exit but we had to try In-N-Out for the first time. While the line appeared to be overwhelming, they had people directing traffic to both the drive thru & the parking lot for dining. Since we were traveling we parked & waited in line. There was seating both inside & outside. We started out waiting under tents outside but we still got through the line & had our order in hand within 25 minutes. All of our meals were correct, as ordered. Staff were prepared & kept the line moving without feeling rushed & the bathrooms were clean. My group agreed that the burgers were delicious & the fries were okay. We all had plain fries & would like to try them different ways in the future. For this location to have only been open a couple of weeks, they are doing really well staying efficient. I plan to return if I ever find myself in the area!

Yelp
Worth every bit of the wait. In-N-Out has the best burgers out there, and it's not even close.

Yelp
Best burgers in the world! Here opening day in Ridgefield, WA! Going to stand in line now
google avatar

Percy C.

Yelp
Had to make the drive for opening! Very organized! Used the drive-thru, which was well-staffed. Advise you pull up the app to review menu, since orders are taken way before the menu board, for now. Ordered combos. Burgers looked picture-perfect! Buns nicely toasted, toppings were fresh and patties just right. Fries just like we've had them at established sites. Hope it stays this way after the hype.
google avatar

Marlowe C.

Yelp
The staff absolutely accommodating so nice. We went thru the drive we were expecting to spend Sunday morning there it was just 20 minutes. Our order was taken and we were guided thru the two lanes of traffic. It was several years since I had a burger from In-N-out let me say it was glorious. I think the volume of orders kinda but everyone wants this. There are just 4 or 5 hamburger joints I recommend Braums in the Midwest, In-N Out West coast, Dick's Washington and Fat Burger. There are gourmet burgers shops you pay an arm and a leg. In-N-Out takes you back the price I spent on an order was $8.00 and chg for burger fries and coke. Love you can't. Wait for a store in Seattle.
google avatar

Benjamin W.

Yelp
This place is insanely busy. Too busy to be exact. Trust me, I am a die hard In N Out fan but when I heard it would take 2 hours to order I left.
google avatar

Malika U.

Yelp
Exciting that WA finally has their first In-N-Out locations. We came on a week day, early morning/afternoon hoping it wouldn't be crazy busy since we thought most people would be at work. Boy, were we wrong. We chose to do drive-thru since it was hot and we didn't wanna wait outside in the hot sun just to dine-in. The line for drive-thru was very organized and moved faster than we thought. I assume we'd be waiting at least 2 hours but we waited for 57 minutes until we placed our order and maybe 10 mins or so after that is when we received our food. Of course our order was wrong. We ordered animal style and did not receive animal style. The young man who took our order was so nice and all smiles. He was very polite and did not rush us at all, despite how busy it was. Although our order was wrong, the food was so good. The burgers were fresh and juicy, but we will wait for the hype to go down before we stop in again.
google avatar

Gina H.

Yelp
The traffic flow into the restaurant is well managed. There are plenty of crew working inside and constantly cleaning and restocking to keep up with high demand. The server even offered to refill our drinks while dinning in. We had in-n-out before but it tasted extra good to have it in the state of WA! Hope they open more locations soon.

Yelp
All New In & Out Burger Wa State! First of It's Kind In Washington! Grand Opening 8/20/25 Great service considering 1st day open! Amazing look! Wonderful Ambiance.

Yelp
Wow, my wife went down that way and figured it probably be about two hours in the drive up 45 minutes. Walk into the In-N-Out had a double double so delicious.
google avatar

Kenneth R.

Yelp
Incredibly organized. Wonderfully friendly and unfrazzled staff. For the level of chaos and crowd the employees did amazing. Kept things moving, clean, and friendly.

Russ R.

Yelp
Forty-one minutes to drive thru at 10:30am on a Friday. No idea how long it would have taken to get in the other line to eat in. Hundreds of cars in two lanes. Well managed and they kept it moving right along. They obviously opened much earlier than the 10:30am posted. Somehow it seems they've managed to do it without affecting Costco traffic in any way.
google avatar

Kayla W.

Yelp
At long last! One of the best fast food burgers ever and the sense of community is what our area needs more of. What a lovely add to the area :)

Roy S.

Yelp
Great burgers like always! Great to see one finally in the state of Washington. Even with all the people they were fast and friendly. Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Yelp
Strictly for the traffic control for the drive thru on opening day. Got here at 10 pm, definitely not the last row that got here but over 3 hours later our row is the last one they're letting through. Its now 1:30 am.
google avatar

Taro B.

Yelp
I went on opening week, so the "experience" is probably one star, due to the extremely long wait time. I love In N Out, but it is definitely not worth a two hour wait time. ***Update: Wait times are down to 15-30min! The place was staffed more than adequately. The kitchen area was so filled with staff that they could barely walk. Staff still managed to keep the place clean and stocked amid the chaos. The food is of course excellent as always. They really need to do something about their numbering system for orders. Each register had its own order number sequence, so when they announced orders that were ready, the numbering system was all over the place. Order numbers could be duplicated if they came from different registers, so it was really confusing and it would be really easy for customers to pick up the wrong order by mistake.

Trevor S.

Yelp
Went grand opening day and with all the people there excited for Washingtons first in n out, the employees did an absolute fantastic job. Super kind and efficient. Not only was the service incredible, the food was perfect! My wife and myself order two different custom meals and they made them exactly the way we ordered them. I have a hard enough time going to any other fast food place without them messing something up. Kudos to the employees at this location! Incredible job!
