On my way out of a quick visit to Columbia back in February, I stopped by here in search of caffeine for the drive (to Charleston). Little did I know I had stumbled upon so much more than a cup of coffee. In this small town, you find a true gem tucked away. I pulled up and questioned, "is this going to be good?"
But then I walked through the front door. If you ever want a true gauge of the quality of a coffee shop, it is not in decor or music playing or even if the barista's look "hipster enough". It is about aroma and equipment. If you are smelling anything resembling a burnt scent and/or overwhelming sweet smells (i.e. brown sugar, chocolate) you need to walk away. Also, if there are not at least three visible options for how to order your coffee (i.e. pour over, aeropress, french press, drip), again walk away. This place though, it checked off all the boxes.
The aroma was a mix of freshly brewed coffee and a recently pulled espresso shot. I went with my standard for first visits, an Americano, and a honeysuckle latte for my wife. Both of these were 100% on point. The Americano had a smooth yet bold flavor. The latte was sweet, but floral (akin to a gin and latte mix). I wanted to order more, but I was traveling through.
The seating appears to be around 30-40 and the demographic that day was young (for me, that means 20-30 years old). It had a relaxing vibe and will definitely be in my must-visit list anytime I am in the area.
