Delayed Pike Place Market Seafood Superstar Starts Lunch Preview - Eater Seattle

"But construction delays in the Marketfront expansion — also home to retail and production facilities for Honest Biscuits, Indi Chocolate, and Old Stove Brewing Company — have once again set back the full reveal, this time from summer to the vague “late 2018.”" - Megan Hill

Google
Bit of a maze, navigating Pike Place but we eventually found our way here. We got a lot of different drinks and pastries, of which I got the Iced Mocha. You could even see the chocolate being made in the back! Prices were very reasonable. Mocha was very rich with an interesting aftertaste. Would Recommend

Google
Every time we’re in Seattle, we have to stop by Indi’s Chocolate shop—it’s truly heaven in a cup! The chocolate is so rich and creamy, and the whipped cream? I almost skipped it the first time because I usually hate whipped cream, but I’m so glad I didn’t. Theirs is so good, I could eat it like ice cream! Isabella is always the sweetest, and this time, we finally got to meet the owner, Erin—she was so informative and kind. We can’t wait to go back!

Google
5/5 stars!!! This place was awesome - visiting from Texas & had a delicious mocha with a vanilla toasted marshmallow. One of the owners took my order and answered all the questions I had as a first time visitor & even gave a sample of their special mole caramel syrup. All of their syrups are made in house which takes this place to the next level. Definitely recommend!!

Google
The Drinking chocolate is fabulous. Better than any hot chocolate you could ever get. We ordered one to share, but they made enough for two and gave my husband and I two. Super yummy. Been here many times to window shop, but this time took the stride to make a purchase. I was not disappointed.

Discerning Customer

Google
Was told by the server that the drinking chocolate is “phenomenal”but it’s one of the worst hot chocolates I’ve ever drunk. There’s no chocolate taste at all and it’s just a foamy, milky something. I’m wondering if it’s because the chocolate in the US has its own type of taste that the rest of the world doesn’t prefer? When asked to recommend between the drinking chocolate and the mocha, the server said that I could get the mocha if I wanted a coffee drink, or to get the drinking chocolate if I just wanted a sweet drink (and that it’s “phenomenal”)…… What a waste of money and calories. ——— My rating system: 5 = It was really awesome, and I keep thinking about it 4 = It was good, and I’m happy to come back 3 = It was unmemorable, but I could come here again 2 = I would probably discourage you from coming here 1 = I wouldn’t come back unless you paid me

Google
Amazing!! Sipping chocolate and brown butter cookie are one of the best things I’ve ever tried. The owner was very welcoming. Highly recommend!

Google
I had the best iced mocha of my life at indi! The coffee tasted perfect and the chocolate was just right. Not too sweet and not bitter. I had mine with coconut milk and it didn’t taste like coconut. I wish I lived closer because this would be my regular! The staff is super friendly and answered my questions. I HIGHLY recommend indi Chocolate!

Stopped here on a food tour in Seattle, they explain all about cofre beans and they have big variety of it. Hipster place with cool vibe. They sell desserts and pastries.

Yelp
Just stopped by with my two besties and their coffee is sooooo good and the staff is super sweet and gave us waters ! The owner walked around and gave us a sample of her lotion !

Yelp
This was love at first bite! Visiting Seattle and dropped in by chance and love the vibe. On top of having their famous chocolate chip cookie the customer service was amazing.
google avatar

Mikah M.

Yelp
We got a sipping chocolate, a hot chocolate, and a chocolate chip cookie. The sipping chocolate was small but mighty. It was extremely rich and incredible. Any more and it would be too much. The hot chocolate has ruined my expectations for what hot chocolate should be like and dry mix no longer satisfies me the same. It was extremely filling without being rich enough to make me sick to my stomach. The chocolate chip cookie is amazing! We got ours fresh out of the oven and dear lord it was incredible. The cocoa nibs on top are a nice touch and very unique. It was in the top 5 cookies we've had! (It was so good we actually bought a second one to go).
google avatar

Yelp
Mochas are amazing!!! Cookies are divine Stop in and have AMAZING Chocolate! The staff & owner are so kind!

Yelp
When I saw they specialized in chocolate, I was worried the drinks might be overly sweet. Actually, they were perfect! I had an iced London Fog and my husband had an iced mocha, and both were just sweet enough to enhance the delicious flavors. It was so good we came back multiple times during our trip. Highly recommend! They also have a great little shop area, including with a delicious hot sauce they allow samples of (and rightly so, I doubt anyone has declined to buy the sauce after trying it).
google avatar

Erica K.

Yelp
The hot chocolate was very good, however the vanilla toasted marshmallow elevated the hot drink. Is it the BEST HOT CHOCOLATE IN THE WORLD? Nope but it ranks in my top five.
google avatar

Leilani Q.

Yelp
Get their mocha!! It's basically delicious chocolate milk with a hint of espresso. Very delicious iced, walking around the waterfront in the sun. The smells, the chocolate, everything is so good!
google avatar

Diana C.

Yelp
Some very tasty hot chocolate! They only had a few of the marshmallow flavors so I tried the chai. It was good but perhaps a bit too charred or something? There were some hard bits on it that I picked out. But honestly I'd come back for the hot chocolate for sure and would still try another marshmallow option. Friendly staff who were very helpful despite seeming understaffed.
google avatar

Mikaela M.

Yelp
Amazingly decadent mochas! You can't forget to get a chocolate chip cookie, too. They have a great location with views, and it looks like they offer tastings, too. It wasn't too busy despite being a holiday week.
google avatar

Kate M.

Yelp
This was a stop on our chef-guided tour with Eat Seattle, and it was divine! We tried a chocolate chip cookie that was perfectly crisp and chewy with tasty, complex flavors. I had to go back later for some to take home to family. The owner has a really cool story worth hearing; great stop when you're at the Market!
google avatar

Jon V.

Yelp
The best hot chocolate my family has ever had. Super nice people and a charming little spot by the market. The hot chocolate is made from actual chocolate and not some powder mix. We had it with homemade whipped cream and homemade toasted marshmallows. We visited today, February, when there were a few snow flakes in the cold air. This perfectly hit the spot for our daughters and my wife and I. Absolutely delicious. I mean, this is hot chocolate at its absolute finest. I can't drink that powder mix stuff anymore.
google avatar

Yelp
I recently visited Indi Chocolate in Seattle, and it truly lives up to the hype! Their hot chocolate is no joke--hands down the best I've ever had. Rich, velvety, and perfectly balanced, it's a must-try. I also indulged in a cookie featuring cocoa nibs, and it was absolutely delicious--crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. The combination of flavors was divine. If you're a chocolate lover, Indi Chocolate is a must-visit! Highly recommend! We went almost every day during our trip to seattle.

Yelp
Stop here to get your chocolate fix. So Good! We had a hard time deciding. I wanted everything and yet didn't "need" any of it. Still.... we got a chocolate chip cookie because I can't pass up a chocolate chip cookie. Oh! and Chocolate Mint lip balm because why not? My lips are always dry and this seemed like a good way to get my chocolate fix without the calories. hahaha! The lip balm is silky smooth and is the perfect balance of chocolate and mint without any weird waxy flavor or artificial flavors. Love it. The chocolate chip paired perfectly with Old Stove Brewing's Hell Hawk Stout. (Old Stove is the neighboring establishment.) Highly recommend this pairing ... it was like they were made for each other. I don't know? Maybe they were? Indi has quite the selection of merchandise and nibbles. Lots of great gift items too. I'm totally coming back again when I'm in the area.
google avatar

Victoria G.

Yelp
Delicious and coffee place near the market. Grab a coffee and go walk to the left to look out over the water. If you're lucky and it's a clear sky you can see all the mountains! We asked her to surprise us and the barista made a spicy Mexican Carmel latte. Delicious!
google avatar

Rachel N.

Yelp
Ok! We got the "drinking chocolate" which had a robust, bitter coffee-esque flavor. I think they used too much milk & not enough chocolate; it wasn't rich at all and sort of tasted "dusty" if anything. Definitely not the best hot chocolate I've had, which they claimed it would be. For $8 for a 12oz, I would not come again and would actually prefer instant hot chocolate. Two stars because this is the only thing I tried here.

Ian Y.

Yelp
Chocolate chip cookie and sipping chocolate have never failed to make me feel better except for that time I had both on an empty stomach with some milk as a lactose intolerant individual (says more about me than the food). Seriously though, the sipping chocolate is fragrant, nicely spiced, and decadent and rich. Don't be fooled by the small size, the real treat is swirling it around in your mouth and enjoying it in sips like you are supposed to. The cookie is unique, at least as far as I've tried. The cacao nibs add a lovely crunch and slightly bitter edge to a not-too-sweet cookie and the size and price correlate nicely.

Yelp
stopped by for a warm drink and was so happy I came across Indi! My hot chocolate was perfect and the staff were amazing. I will definitely be coming back soon.

Yelp
Another occasional treat in my former walks from my old downtown office. Tucked behind the restaurant and cafe lies a really neat artisanal and quality chocolate boutique shop. They have all sorts of products, snacks, treats, coffee and non-coffee drinks. They have just a cute small selection of vegan options - I think dipped chocolate dried fruit, truffles and chai-spice biscotti - plus coffee & chai. I've typically just gotten the awesome chai, decaf oat latee and/or the biscotti. You won't find vegan biscotti for miles around so if you missed biscotti like I do, it's a nice lil treat (a hint of spice, pleasant chewy/crunchy texture and 2 pieces per order). Staff are wonderful and happy any time whipping out the ingredients binder for any questions/comments.

Yelp
This place has been on my list for a while now. I finally got an opportunity to try it out. First of all, the location of this shop is amazing, you get a great view of the water from here. I got the sipping chocolate. The staff is very nice and friendly here. There is a good amount of seating as well. Although the sipping chocolate was great, it's not the best I have tried and that's why I took a star off. But I am excited to try their hot chocolate next time I go. My friend got a mocha and she loved it. Would highly recommend this place.

Yelp
indi Chocolate is absolutely amazing. The chocolate chip cookie is the absolute best cookie I have ever had in my life, like ever!!!! The owner Erin and her daughter Indi were very sweet and helpful. The mole caramel latte is so rich and wonderful, add the toasted marshmallow on top, you will not regret that at all. The marshmallows are made fresh there as well and sunlight and toasty. We also bought the orange cocoa butter lotion and lip balm and they are very moistening and have a nice fresh chocolate orange smell. We are now planning our Christmas cookie orders because they are so, so yummy!!!!
google avatar

Amber H.

Yelp
We went to get a few drinks and my son a special hot drinking chocolate for his birthday. Isabella was so kind to my quirky 12 year old and really engaged with him and made him feel special on his day! Thank you Isabella from the bottom of my heart and thank you indi chocolate for making some damn good drinks!
google avatar

Laurel H.

Yelp
The sign was right! It really was the best mocha I've ever had! Perfect blend of dark chocolate and espresso. Rich and lightly sweet. I don't usually get mochas because they're usually too sugary. It's good I'm just visiting Seattle because I'd drink this all the time.
google avatar

Chrissy R.

Yelp
That coffee was on another level! My sister and I felt inebriated after a cup lol. Definitely enough caffeine and a dash of happy juice to top it off! Best coffee we've had! Cracking up while walking Pike's market! It's delish! Will definitely go back when we come visit Seattle. Cheesecake was good too my daughter finished it!
google avatar

Dan M.

Yelp
I went to this location on a food tour I was on. They served lots of different sweets and coffees along with various lotions. They had a great story where the chocolate beans come directly from the farmers. This essentially helps the farmers earn a higher income because of that so cool to see. I sampled a chocolate chip cookie. It was topped with a sprinkle of sea salt. This was a solid tasting cookie. There was a lot of chips present, so it made the cookie very chocolatey. It also helped that it came out warm which added to the overall flavor. Will I go back? Definitely.
google avatar

Roshni N.

Yelp
Vanessa, our barista, made us the best hot chocolates. It was so good that I'm going back again today (less than 18 hours later) to buy some again. If you've tried hot chocolate in parts of Europe and are flabbergasted by the inferiority of American hot chocolate then have no fear, come here! My dogs agree too!
google avatar

Joyce D.

Yelp
Located near Pike's Place market. They're on the lower level near Honey Biscuits. With the bean to bar concept they have all things chocolate. For about $5 I got the hot chocolate drink. It was rich and what you would expect for good quality chocolate I drink form. I also tried their indi chocolate chip cookie. Since I came in the morning the cookie was still warm. It had a little bit of everything from the sweet chocolate chunks to sea salt to cacao nibs for bitterness. Overall it was a good cookie. I also got their truffles. At the time there was cacao nib truffles or port truffles that were different than a plain truffle. I got both. I wish they had more chocolate bars to choose from that they were selling or give more explanation of its background/flavor notes/origins things like that.

Yelp
That moment you realized you found a gem! The owner was so sweet and passionate about the quality of her product and it lived up to expectation. The cookie and hot chocolate were next level!
google avatar

Christina G.

Yelp
Make sure to stop by here if you're a chocolate lover. They have a variety of different chocolate types to enjoy and it smells heavenly from the chocolate. The Indi Chip Cookie (chocolate chip cacao nib cookie) was amazing. The salt on top was a perfect counterbalance to the sweetness of the cookie, the nibs added a great flavor and texture, and the chocolate was still gooey despite sitting in the display case. The cashier was nice and informative when we asked questions about the different products.

Yelp
So fun, to sit at the counter today with our grandson ! We loved the feeling and the food - excellent cookie, hot chocolate, and mole roasted marshmallow, friendly and yum !

Yelp
Absolutely delighted by a most excellent @indichocolate creation! The unique blend of flavors truly sets it apart - a must-try for chocolate aficionados. Also, stumbled upon this fascinating post about their Philippine cacao adventures: https://indichocolate.com/blogs/blog/philippine-adventures-in-cacao-and-chocolate. It's an eye-opener to the world of chocolate making - particularly loved the part about how the islands got a head start on savoring "the joys of chocolate" in 1651. Check it out!

Yelp
It was an amazing afternoon to visit Indi Chocolate today located along western terrace of Pike Market with amazing views of Elliott Bay, seattle waterfront, sports stadiums and mt rainier tucked away behind the clouds. I felt privileged that I had an opportunity to meet and talk to founder Erin. She is an entrepreneur and it becomes real looking at the ensemble of products besides chocolates in her store. To be continued.....

Yelp
Was really curious about the drinking chocolate here as well as the indi chip cookie so decided to make a visit. Also wanted to get some souvenirs before flying back to Cali. Maybe I visited at the wrong time (11 am on a Friday) but the place looked a bit tired. Display food cases had only a couple of items. Not many chocolate bars at the counter. Didn't see any chocolate lotions or chocolate lip balm for sale. Perhaps there's currently a chocolate/chocolate product shortage? Not much customer traffic and the cashier gentleman was pretty aloof when I was ordering the drinking chocolate and indi chip cookie. The chocolate taste of the drinking chocolate was nice though the drink itself was a little too watered down even for a drinking chocolate. The cacao nibs on top of the indi chip cookie had a satisfying snappy crunch (crunch similar to that of roasted peanuts), but the cookie base was overly crumbly in some parts (cookie overall was kinda on the stale side). Hmm I dunno. If you're already in this section of Pike Place (it's connected to Old Stove Brewery) I'd say that this place is still worth a quick peek.

Yelp
I have searched long and hard for the best mocha in Seattle and I now firmly believe that indi chocolate has it. The spicy mocha will make you forget all of life's problems and woes as you enter a transcendental plane of deliciousness. also has good lattes, friendly staff, cool vibes

Yelp
if you get one thing from pike place let it be something from here, my favorite being the sipping chocolate. incredibly delicious, and the people there are as sweet as the chocolate. Madison was a delight to talk to and the owners are such nice people, 10/10 I love going here
google avatar

Yelp
A must-stop when visiting the market. One of the best chocolate chip cookies I've ever had! The cacao is sourced directly from farmers, and everything is made from scratch in house. The owner was there as well as her daughter, Indi! They also have teas and coffees, which I wish I would have tried as well. If you have a sweet tooth, definitely stop here!

Yelp
We parked a bit far away to venture into Pike's Place market, and accidentally entered the lower part of the market where we discovered Indi Chocolate. We are chocolate lovers, so when we saw the sign we both entered the the space without a thought! It's an spacious open area, but it felt cozy. Two businesses shared the area, one serves chocolate and the other served biscuits. The staff was really friendly and took time to introduce us to their products and history. Their story began with the owner developing skin care products for her kids, to making their chocolates. As result, you'll find both skin products and yummy munchies within the shop. We ordered a single origin drinking chocolate with a homemade vanilla flavored marshmallow. The presentation was beautiful, you cannot beat a freshly roasted marshmallow on top of a hot cup of drinking chocolate. Upon the first sip, we tasted the mild bitterness of chocolate, the sea salt, and a buttery caramel-like flavor of the drink. It is sweet, but not too sweet, so you can drink it without getting over sugared. Overall, we are impressed with Indi and am happy we discovered this little gem. We will definitely return when we are in town again!

Miles K.

Yelp
Had a great cup of cold brew with a view! Very welcoming environment, great service, and I was very impressed with the quality of the coffee.

Yelp
Loved this little nook of life on a Sunday strolling through Pike's Place. We were headed for breakfast and this is one of my girlies favorite spots. The line was long, but the staff was efficient and we were able to get through quickly but also enjoy the ambiance in line. The people watching is always my fave. Us PNW friends are a different breed and we all just want that cozy cup, whether that be hot or iced. I got a dirty chai with the vanilla bean and it was incredible. Creamy, smooth, perfection for a Sunday morning.

Kimberly W.

Yelp
The sipping chocolate was soooooo thickkkk. My daughter and I could not finish it. Super dark and almost fudge-like a melted chocolate bar. It was an experience. But if I went back I would just get the hot chocolate - that was perfect. Definitely also super dark almost bitter so don't expect traditional sweet hot chocolate. I loved it, my teen did not. The location was cool but a little confusing to find, it's downstairs from the rest of Pike Place. Wasn't hard to find just had to look for it.

Yelp
Great little chocolate shop at Pike Place Market! It was my first time at the market. After wandering around, the cold Seattle weather (plus wind and rain) had us in the mood for something warm. Like a sign, I happened upon this place. The staff was super nice. I got the 8 oz sipping chocolate with marshmallow and whipped cream (+ $1 each). The marshmallow is fresh and toasted - it added a great taste and texture to the chocolate! The whipped cream was fresh and house made, too. I'll say the logistics weren't very clear. You have to go all the way to the back end of the counter to order (the register is by the chalkboard menu). Then, after ordering, you have to backtrack through others waiting in line and circle around all the way to the front part of the counter to an unmarked (quite confusing) part of the counter to get your drink. Basically, go near the place where the staff eventually stands to actually pour your drink into a cup (after they've walked around the kitchen gathering ingredients to make your drink) and that's where they'll eventually leave your drink sitting on the (somewhat cluttered) counter. Like I said, not exactly intuitive. It's no problem when the store isn't busy, but when it does get busy it's confusing. I'll be back, especially since this place is a little more quiet (at least when I was there) than the rest of the market and offers a moment of peace from the hustle and bustle of hungry tourists.

Yelp
Hidden gem! Do yourself a favor and come grab a nut free cookie sweetened with cacao. Uh-maze-ing. You have to add on some custom chocolate drinks and homemade marshmallows also. So good. Don't forget to check out the gift shop! Pair with honest biscuits for a delicious breakfast.
google avatar

Yelp
Very friendly owners and a variety of products. The indi chocolate chip cookie is delicious: not too sweet, salty and sweet, with great texture from the cacao nibs. I bought several to bring home to enjoy.

Yelp
What a fun experience in Pike's Public Market. I wandered in on a weekday afternoon and was looking for a little pick-me-up. I opted for the sipping chocolate, which was served in a shot glass-sized cup. It was thick and so so decadent. I could barely finish it, because it was so thick. The service was absolutely fantastic as well; they explained the difference between sipping and drinking chocolate, brought me a glass of water since they knew it was so decadent, and even let me sample a small pastry.
google avatar

Jason G.

Yelp
This is the best hot chocolate, sipping chocolate, coffee, and lotion in the city. The service and owner are very happy, friendly, informative and cheerful. They give great classes as well.
google avatar

Yasuyo T.

Yelp
We came here while we were waiting for a table at Old stone brewing. I had a hot chocolate. It wasn't the best hot chocolate that I tried. But I drank it up because I was super exhausted after I walked around for a long time. When I walked around Pike park, there was a huge line on most of well known shops. It worked out so well for us we got what we wanted without any waiting time. I would recommend this place to take a quick break from walking.

Yelp
Indi Chocolate is a beautiful little shop behind Pike Place Market. There is not a lot of variety to choose from, but there are different items like lotions, seasonings and chocolate bars. You can also order drinks which they have a lot of options. There was one guy running the whole place and he was very calm, cool and collected. There were certain questions that we asked that he didn't know the answers to, but he was still nice and knowledgeable about certain things. Everything is super expensive. I get it, it's the real stuff, but I just don't get the hype. I got some truffles which were $4 a piece and the cacao was very bitter and I couldn't even swallow it. I also got the last chocolate spoon where you heat some milk drop it in and make hot chocolate. I thought that because I was adding it to milk that it would be less bitter, but nope. Sadly, I'm just not into the no frills, real cacao. If you like the real stuff with no artificial sweeteners this is the place for you, but if you like Hershey's or the sweet stuff I would steer clear.
google avatar

LeeLee C.

Yelp
Covid Overrated. They made heir ownership chocolates I get that. They are also friendly in service but I'm not impressed with the chocolate. Tried their dipping chocolate which is melted chocolate bar from Venezuela and a drinking hot chocolate which has more milk and lighter in flavor. The dipping chocolate is a bit thin and sour while the drinking chocolate is too milky. Two items costed close to $14, a bit overpriced for the quality.

Yelp
Indi Chocolate is located in the new Pike Place Market extension, lower level, just off Western Avenue. Entrance can be via Western Ave or from the main Pike Place Market. This area is fairly new, built before the pandemic shut down, and everything looks sparkling clean. If the historically charming Pike Place Market is too "historic" for your taste, this extension area is a good place to hang out, especially with a place like Indi Chocolate calling you. We went later in the afternoon on a Saturday. The market stalls are starting to pack up, but Indi was still open and ready for customers. There was even a new batch of cookies that just came out of the oven! They have a small case for refrigerated items, things like chocolate covered strawberries and decadent pastries. A big jar of chocolate covered biscotti made with chai was inviting. A small case of dainty pieces of high end chocolates reminded me of pieces I buy during trips in Europe. Also check out the bags of chocolate themed teas - chocolate rose tea, chocolate lavender tea, chocolate chai tea, etc. They also have lotions and other gift items. Of course, they have beverages too. The items I chose are: - The hot out of oven chocolate cookie. It's huge and decadent! (Sorry no photo) - 7 dainty chocolates in a gift box with different flavors that we chose. They have boxes for different quantities. Definitely try at least a piece or two. Very happy with the selections. - Chocolate orange tea. (I have opened it yet) - Chocolate covered chai biscotti - The quality of the chocolate is definitely high end. If you like that cinnamon-y chai tea, this is a treat for you. Next time, I'm having a drinking chocolate!

Yelp
Destination Hot Chocolate. This is the best hot chocolate in Seattle. They make their chocolate from bean to bar and it's fantastic. You can also get a toasted marshmallow on your hot chocolate today we got vanilla (they also had mole and chai).
