Spice It Up at These 13 Indian Restaurants Around the Metroplex

"Head to India Chaat Cafe for a good chat over Indian chaat or snacks. Taste the explosion of textures, temperatures and flavors in a plate of Dahi puri, crispy hollow puri stuffed with spiced potatoes and garbanzos, doused in yogurt and chutneys. Or try a platter of assorted pakoras, deep-fried vegetables, paneer, chicken, fish, or jalapeno covered in batter." - Courtney E. Smith, Didi Paterno

India Chaat Cafe is a gem for casual dining. The food is delicious, especially the chaat, it’s flavorful and fresh. The puris they use are super crispy and add the perfect crunch. Also don’t skip the gulab jamun, it was warm, soft and just the right amount of sweetness. The owner and staff are incredibly warm and welcoming, which adds to the whole experience. Whether you’re craving street-style snacks or a relaxed Indian meal, this place is definitely worth checking out. Highly recommend!

It was our first time here, and after today’s experience, I can say with certainty that we will return. I am already planning what to order on our next visit. My Mom and I met my BFF here because we had one heck of a hankering for chaat. Visited on a Tuesday evening around 6:30PM and there were several tables occupied. Order at the counter and the owner’s family serves you at the table of your choosing. I would imagine this place gets pretty packed and crazy on the weekends so I will try to time our next visit prior to the lunch or dinner rush. Walking in, you are immediately taken by the aromatic spices wafting through the air. There is also an electronic Menu Board with easy-to-read sections of items and their corresponding descriptions to guide you. If you are placing a to-go order, you pay at the register. If you are dining in, there are table numbers and you can choose where you want to sit and you pay after you finish your meal. Mom and I ordered a Mango Lassi each and shared the Pani Puri, Samosa Chaat, and Paneer Pakora - all excellent. Came with mint and coriander green chutney and red chili chutney. My BFF ordered the Papri Chaat and Chicken Pakora. Years ago, when I graduated from TWU in 2007, we had eaten chaat at Taj Grocers in Richardson - it was the only legit and real deal place at the time, and I have been on the hunt for something similar ever since. Most establishments, over the years, seemed to have missed the mark, but India Chaat Cafe wowed us and absolutely delivered. The service was adequate and the food was ideal in presentation, taste, and true to my culture, heritage, and roots. The ambience was traditional and inviting with a vibrant burst of energy to the space. Definitely somewhere you would want to come to relax and unwind. We will be adding this establishment to our list of restaurant rotations whenever we are in the Plano/North Dallas Area. I wish them all the success and will be returning regularly for other Menu items in the future.

Google
India Chaat Café in TX absolutely nailed it with their Golgappe! Crisp, perfectly hollow puris served with chilled, tangy, and spicy water that hits all the right notes—just like the streets of Delhi. The flavors are authentic, the presentation is clean, and every bite is an explosion of nostalgia. You can tell they put heart into the prep, and the freshness is unbeatable. If you’re craving real desi street food vibes in Texas, this is the spot. Highly recommend for all chaat lovers!

Google
I LOVE this restaurant! Total hidden gem in Dallas! Best Indian food I've ever had. The naan is perfection, too. I've been a handful of times now and it's fantastic - consistently good food (generous portions served piping hot), good service, and a welcoming atmosphere! It's the kind of place that serves up food that makes you feel good in your soul. If you haven't had the absolute pleasure of enjoying a delicious meal here, I highly recommend stopping here for lunch or dinner soon!

We come in at least once a week and have done so for 11 years. The owners Harwinder and her family are so welcoming. They are attentive. Help with describing options if I ever try something other than my all time favorite Paneer Tika Masala. I have garlic Naan and rice with it. We top it is with Ras Malai. Perfection!!

Google
My husband and I have been loyal customers of this restaurant for 10 incredible years! We always order the Jain Papri Chaat (with extra chhole). They're also happy to accommodate our requests, including making Jain sabzi on demand. Today, we tried the Kadai Paneer, and it was absolutely delicious! We can't recommend this place enough!

Google
Easily the worst pani puri and most mediocre chaat i’ve had. The panipuri stuffing they gave was the biggest disappointment. Maybe the other items are good but if these were any indicator….🤷‍♀️

Google
By the end of this year we will have ordered take out from India Chaat Cafe about 700 times! Its that good. We like spicy foods and I tend to lean toward cajun food but this food is good and more reasonable price. We usually go for the chicken curry dishes every week. After about 13+ years the cooks are consistent. A few times the spiciness changed and some chicken issues but nothing serious. The naan is very good as well. Try this place.

Yelp
I came here for lunch with a friend and I was very pleased with the great service and flavorful food. 1. Papri Chaat 8/10 2. Aloo Tikki 10/10 3. Cholay Bhaturr 9/10

Yelp
I was craving some samosa and chai and found out about this place. We ordered samosa, chai and papdi chat and everything was great. The service was a bit slow which was the only negative but they definitely made it up in their food.
google avatar

Yelp
They've been here going on 9 years or so and some of the best Indian food around. The people are always nice here as well. Just don't go to the Chinese place around the corner not nice there.

Yelp
This is a five star Indian restaurant in North Dallas. It's located in a strip mall in a humble setting, but the food is some of the best in DFW. This place has been a standard fixture for the last decade on desi dining scene and the taste is always the same, and the service is very friendly. Chicken /paneer tikka masala, seeks kabab garlic naan always hits the spot!!

J A.

Yelp
We come from Allen and loved this spot. Last weekend quality and portion gone down. So much disappointment. They do overall good they busy most of time we been there. So sad owner needs to step it back up.

Marjorie G.

Yelp
LOVE this place. Great Indian food for casual sit down or take out. Always greeted with a pleasant welcome and smile. Food is excellent!

Lisa T.

Yelp
I typically order the chana masala and must say this restaurant has some of the best! Very friendly staff/owners. It's my "go to" Indian food restaurant.
google avatar

May G.

Yelp
I got chicken Tikka masala and it was pretty good. It was a lot of food, so I didn't finish everything. The chicken and the sauce in the chicken tikka masala were good

Yelp
After savoring their Chaat, decided to try out their regular food items. Got a takeout of Dahi Bhalla, Bhelpuri, Lamb Seekh Kabab and Chicken Vindaloo. Requested a deconstructed Bhelpuri (chutney packed separately) and Naan's with the Kebab and Vindaloo. Got all that in about 15 to 20 minutes. Not bad considering kabab take time. The Bhelpuri was great. A good balanced sweet, spicy and tangy taste. The Dahi Bhalla was fantastic. Soft and right combination of yogurt, chutney and ground spices. The Laban's were good. Not spicy and good flavors but did not like the excessive food coloring. The flavors could have been elevated by adding some more fresh herbs and green pepper. The Chicken Vindaloo was ok. It was not an authentic Vindaloo, the flavors were fine and the chicken was cooked well. On the menu it was mentioned as a spicy dish but it was not spicy by Indian palette by a mile. Overall good food and good service. We will focus on chaat at this place more than their other lunch/dinner options!

Yelp
Wanted to go to an Indian restaurant that serves Punjabi gravies and chaat and pretty much saw that most of them were closed on a Monday. Saw great reviews for this restaurant And tried them yesterday for dinner. Decently good chaat - we tried Dahi Papdi Chaat, Paani Puri and it was ok. Chole Bhature was ok. Paneer Kabab was so badly done - with no flavor, loads of food coloring, and hardly any spices. I am surprised that restaurants pass off 4 pieces of paneer and some raw veggies as a kabab at $14.99! The Naan that came with the paneer kabab was so tough and dry. We could not bear to have even 2 bites. Never coming back.
google avatar

Priya T.

Yelp
This is a good place to come to for a quick bite. It's not the most flavorful at first, but if you add in the sweet chutney, it definitely gets better!! The cafe was clean and staff was friendly!
google avatar

Monali D.

Yelp
Terrific food! The wraps, pizzas, curry roti and rice meal, chaats, everything is so tasty! I have been going to this place since 2014, the taste and the quality is consistent! Huge portions for the daily special meals! Their saag paneer dinner meal is so delicious (try with garlic naan). Their Samosa chaat is a winner! Veggie paneer pizza is so flavorful! Veggie roll is good but heavy cos they use naan for the wrap. Service is good too! Our go to place for good Punjabi food!
google avatar

Kelly L.

Yelp
We came for lunch and the daily lunch specials have a little of everything type of entree for only $11.99! It comes with rice, naan, and a cucumber salad. Everything has its own unique taste. Just delicious. Of course we sit along the back wall facing the Indian Bollywood musicals. We don't know what they are saying but their acting tells the story.

Chris S.

Yelp
I have been coming here for years. It changed hands but remained true to the flavor. Sometimes, it takes a while to get your food, but that shows it is freshly made. It is a plain restaurant, but it is a "chaat" restaurant.
google avatar

Liza R.

Yelp
We would have given 4/5 star for the food but the service is terrible. We have gone a couple of times now and the wait has been over 20-30 min each time. This last time we saw people who ordered well after us get their food first. All 3 times we have gone, patrons of their own culture got their food first and bigger parties too. Will not go back.
google avatar

Glen K.

Yelp
This place came highly recommended but their order process must be off. It took an exceptionally long time to get our food--over 1.5hrs! We ordered through grub hub for pickup. We even called ahead to confirm they received the order and when it would be ready. Haven't even tried the food but will not be coming back here, the wait was ridiculous and there was no service compensation or apology or explanation. Thumbs down.
google avatar

Venky I.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Ordered dahi puri, aloo chaat, samosas and chai with lassi. The uber driver who dropped us off complimented this restaurant. Its well deserving.

Jaina S.

Yelp
This is consistently the BEST North Indian food in Dallas. Everything is fresh and tasty. My friends and I go every week and we're never disappointed.
google avatar

Melissa S.

Yelp
This was one of the worst takeout experiences I've encountered. I tried them twice. The first time they gave me someone else's order - I ordered Tilka Masala and Samosas but instead ended up with Butter Chicken and Papri Chaat. They were decent but I was obviously annoyed they gave me the wrong order. I tried them again and what I got was awful (see photos). I ordered the Papri Chaat and Dahi Puri - they were literally containers of cold mush (90% sauce). See photos. Both were some of the worst Indian food I have ever ordered and the Roti was tasteless. Definitely do not recommend.
google avatar

Shashank M.

Yelp
The Dahi Puri was delicious - 10/10. The chutneys they add are fantastic! In general the chaat was amazing. But the kebabs were nothing special. The chaat came out very fast but kebabs took a while. Service wasn't great , there were no forks nor water available at ease.
google avatar

Gill S.

Yelp
I flip flop on my opinion on this place, but its so hit and miss that it needs to be lowered to a 3. The Kathi Roll is awful. Overly seasoned, overcooked meat, and the breading was hard. Don't bother getting this. The lamb Korma is quite creamy, with basmati rice with no additional seasoning . Can't say it had that much flavor to the curry, nor meat, but the pieces of lamb were decent.
google avatar

Maureen T.

Yelp
The absolute best Tikka Masala I have ever eaten. My husband loves the Butter Chicken. Both of these dishes have such rich and delicious sauce, but the star of the show is their Naan. It is so fresh, and has a little bit of a crunh in small areas from the grill...it's superb. Every time I am asked what I want to eat, Chaat is my first choice. We don't come often enough though. OH AND ALMOST FORGOT TO MENTION THE BASMATI. It's amazing!
google avatar

Kimber M.

Yelp
Reliably delicious. Occasionally gets orders wrong when we pick up or use delivery. Never happens when we eat there. I suggest they pay more attention to to-go orders. Leaving out meat in a non-vegetarian dish is disappointing.
google avatar

Derrick B.

Yelp
Great authentic Indian food. Butter chicken is outstanding. Vindaloo is spectacular especially if you like HOT!
google avatar

Blake M.

Yelp
First off, the whole place is a vibe. I am always on the look out for good food, because my tastebuds guide me. This place was found by a happy accident, and I could not be happier. The service was great, and the food was fantastic! I'll definitely be going back.
google avatar

Sonya L.

Yelp
This review is only for the paneer wrap - everything else is good .. when I think of paneer wrap I except it to have more than 1 tiny piece of paneer and not aloo with it - like tanu sharm nai aundi eh wrap pesh karte? Please fix your quantity of paneer .. ridiculous
google avatar

Sarrang P.

Yelp
Its still good but they raised the prices with same to maybe a little less in portion.. kinda disappointed. :( Will probably need to find another Indian food place that's cheaper..
google avatar

Himanshu G.

Yelp
We went for a quick bite but eventually we had our dinner here. Their menu is kind of really broad and portions are also amazing. We had tried multiple items from chole bhature to chilli chicken and every single dish was good enough except chilli chicken. But overall it was nice experience there especially I love their chole bhature. If I ever crave for the same in future definitely indian Chaat cafe is my option. Service was little late even there was not much people during that time, this is one pointer on which they can work upon.
google avatar

Tonya M.

Yelp
We love this place! We've been coming here regularly since 2013 and the food and service has been consistently good. We always get the Chicken Wrap Desi style with potato salad. Excellent!!!
google avatar

Junaid K.

Yelp
I love this place. I saw it open over a decade ago and still come to eats it's famous butter chicken.
google avatar

Prajakta M.

Yelp
Ordered a takeout on our way to airport. One of the good places in Dallas for chaats! Kheer, dahi bhalle, chicken biryani and rasmalai were delicious!
google avatar

Melissa O.

Yelp
Still a favorite. Great food, great customer service, great prices. Last time I came for lunch I got the vindaloo (all vegetable, have to ask for it) with double rice (instead of rice and naan). Sides for the dinner portion were dal and korma. Everything as delicious as ever. I will continue to give this place my business as long as they are around!

Eesha R.

Yelp
Great tasting food for reasonable prices. No nonsense place ..go there for more than chaat. Kababs are excellent.

James H.

Yelp
Best butter chicken I've ever had. I love that they use dark meat chicken. Only complaint is they don't have a buffet.

Kenneth J.

Yelp
I love this place. I've been coming here for years. The food is a mix of traditional and non-traditiinal fair. The papri chaat is wonderful and I have a deep love for the tandoori chicken wrap. Everything I've had here is awesome.
google avatar

Israel A.

Yelp
Excelent delicious food, awful service. I don't complain about the food, which is pretty decent. However the service is not the best. When arrived and sat I was ignored the whole time until I noticed I had to make my order at the counter. When I got my food brought to the table the waitress (who never smiles) didn't bring me a fork nor cutlery. I had to stand up and ask for one and all she did was point her finger all the way down a hallway to where I had to go and grab it myself. They need to work more on attentiveness towards the customers, who always deserve the best service
google avatar

Manish J.

Yelp
Nice north indian food with lots of option. You can order lunch or Dinner (with add ons) portions. Some desi pizza options as well and they have daily specials too.
google avatar

Ken H.

Yelp
Kebabs were good. samosa was good. I think the Butter Chicken is average. The service took a long time though i'm okay with this if theyre going for quality.
google avatar

Mikki N.

Yelp
Nasty!! The naan is cold and hard!! Ask the guy what good here anything he recommend he say i don't know lol. My husband just walk off when he say I don't know . I just order one plate to try. We sat down for a good 10min I heard the bell I saw the kitchen people put a plate up at the window And I'm not sure if that suppose to be for me lol. 15min pass the guy who took our order finally turn his back to the window and bring the food to me. At this point I don't even want it because the foods been sit there at the window for a good mins lol. I ask him for a new one because the foods is cold, he bring the foods back to the window then this lady (guess she the owner) bring the dish right back to me with her thumb all over the naan, that's is nasty how she touch the foods in the plate. That's gross she was on the phone too when she bring me that food, I told her it cold can I get a new one, she give me the look grab the plate then go to the back. They did give me a new one and it's hot but the food wasn't all that, won't be back!
google avatar

Pooja S.

Yelp
This was the best place so far in Dallas for chaat and pani puri. Very good service and great food. Paneer pakoras we're outstanding.
google avatar

Shal A.

Yelp
We went there today 1st time after covid.. and the food was not like we expected. Really disappointed.
google avatar

Kate M.

Yelp
We ordered chicken tikka masala, chili fries, tandoori chicken, lamb curry, and paneer pakora for delivery. Everything was fresh and delicious. Very good portions, we ate for 2 days and everything was great. The naan alone is always worth the order.
google avatar

Rani P.

Yelp
Went to this restaurant over the weekend and there were lots of people! Which is always a good sign. Nice clean place. You order at the counter and they bring the food out. The service was good. For food: we ordered Pani puri, veggie wrap, mango lassi and chili paneer pizza. The mango lassi was bitter so that was a little disappointing. Everything else was good. Pani puri had good flavor and the water was spicy. The pizza was very good. I do plan to go back and try the chicken tikka pizza. I didn't care much for the veggie wrap. It was a little dry and the aloo patty inside was too small for the wrap. I would go back to explore other things on the menu.
google avatar

Kevin K.

Yelp
I struggle with this one. Good food and value but their customer service is almost naan existent. In person, no problem. But try calling in an order and it rings forever or you get a busy signal. Busy signal? Is this 1980? Finally got through after several attempts got put on hold, and never came back. Ugh. I don't get it. I am trying to give you my money and no one wants to take it. Hate to see small businesses fail for the wrong reason. Good food. 1980s service. Hope they read this...

Rishikesh P.

Yelp
They add chole is almost all chaat dishes. In Samosa chat, samosa chat is 20%, chole is 80%. Whatever chaat dish you order, you will be eating chole. Also, the fountain drinks are nothing but water.
google avatar

Julie J.

Yelp
Don't go here unless you clear your afternoon. I waited 45 minutes for Samosas then the rest of my order was wrong...20 minutes later. Never, ever, ever again. It's overpriced and not worth it plus there are way better places to eat at. The worst part of this visit was the woman at the counter. I pointed out our order was forgotten & she never really apologized. Instead the cooks threw some random food in a to go bag. $28.65 completely wasted! I'm not sUre whose food I got but it went in the trash. Before I left I told her how disappointed I was that I sat so long watching others get their food (those who came in after me) and she just said, "I guess they made mistake". Sadly no apology, no let me fix this, nothing. Don't eat here.
google avatar

Kyle A.

Yelp
Favorite Indian restaurant in DFW. Can't go wrong with the Chicken Tandoori Wrap, Butter Chicken, or Tikka Masala.
google avatar

Hamsa P.

Yelp
I visited this place with high hopes for chats. We ordered samosa chat, Papdi chat, bhel Puri. Papdi chat has crispy papdi and samosa chat had a small smosa but was tasty. Bhel Puri was just okay. later we ordered paneer wrap and chicken wrap(desi style) both of if was just awful they wrapped the chicken in a naan and gave it as a chicken wrap. I mean I have no words here. Don't waste money on their wraps you would rather order naan and gravy that would be way better. I can only recommend their chats everything else is not worth it.
google avatar

Benjamin C.

Yelp
If you're looking for a quick indian fix that is easy on the non-initiated pallet, this is your place. Their naan is always fresh made and has the perfect balance of slight crispy char and tender chewy inside. For a quick or on the go option, their fish wrap (using their awesome naan) is a great choice. For something more substantial, their goat korma and chicken tikka masala are always a safe bet. The gravies are flavorful, but not highly spiced nor have a heated punch, so if you're looking for something more authentic, this may not be your place, but would be a great option for someone's first foray into Indian food. Oh and if you're looking for an interesting appetizer that most places don't have, give their dahi puri or pani puri a try. Pretty fun and yum to eat! If they used dark meat chicken or more juicy pieces of lamb/goat, they'd get another star.
google avatar

Tina C.

Yelp
Since moving from Houston, I sadly haven't found a go-to Indian restaurant in Dallas. However, I would come to India Chaat Cafe every week if it were closer to me. Simply DELICIOUS. I came with friends and we shared a Saag Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken, and Chicken Biryani. Four dishes for 3 hungry people was perfect. After ordering, we got our waters and silverware off to the side and sat ourselves down. The food came relatively quickly (we came around 6pm on a Tuesday night). The food was amazing. The flavors were just right and the sauces creamy. The naan wasn't as fluffy or crispy as I would've liked but overall that didn't take away from my experience. My personal favorites were the Butter Chicken and Saag Paneer with naan. I felt like these two dishes complemented each other well (providing meat and veggies) since the Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala were a bit more similar in taste. The Chicken Biryani was spicy for me but the yogurt it comes with helps. I noticed on their menu that they also have "Desi style pizza" which I haven't seen outside of Bombay Pizza in Houston. Definitely coming back here for my Indian cravings and to check out their pizzas!! Summary: ambiance 3/5, food 5/5, service 4/5.
