A Guide To Eating On Ventura Blvd.

"Indian restaurants tend to know their way around a worthwhile lunch buffet but at Taj Mahal you might be staring at the best one in the city. At $8.95 this 15-item, all-you-can-eat buffet is an Encino legend and the perfect way to seek midweek revenge on your cubicle neighbor who you hate anyways." - brant cox

Amazing flavor! And amazing service! Everyone was so kind and was very attentive and yet not smothering. I don't usually like India food but everything about my food from the spices too the authenticity was amazing. And if you have a choice for a server. Choose Saleem! He'll take care of you 100%!

Google
Indian Masala is hands down the best Indian in LA…. my boyfriend and I have been coming here for two years and their flavorful, delightful dishes are so consistent. We highly recommend the Sag Paneer and the Vegetable Masala. And the staff and owner go above and beyond with the service. We’ll see you next time Indian Masala!

Google
Delicious and Delightful Indian Cuisine at the masala house! They offer a truly enjoyable Indian dining experience. The food was flavorful and well-prepared, from the crispy samosas to the rich and satisfying butter chicken. The spices were perfectly balanced, creating authentic and delicious dishes. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was welcoming. Overall, a great spot for a tasty Indian meal! Highly recommended.

Google
I absolutely love coming here. I would always stop in to pick up food for Uber eats and they always offer me tea or water and happy to get my order. One day I finally stopped in for my own meal to go and enjoyed it so much I ate the same meal for a week straight!! The staff is so kind and fun, even gave us free ice cream after we didn’t ask !! I love the staff mostly but the food is also great too. If I could eat here every day I probably would.

Google
Food was excellent!! I found my meal to be fresh and crafted with quality ingredients; I could taste the love in my curry. The portion size was plentiful and the ratio of protein to veggies to curry was exactly suited to my preferences.

Google
Fantastic experience all around. Great food and really friendly staff. My husband and I got the chicken vindaloo and also tried the lava sauce on the side. Both were delicious and great for anyone who enjoys some spice! Really looking forward to returning here soon.

Google
My partner and I had the pleasure of dining here for the first time tonight, and we’re beyond impressed! If we could give more than 5 stars, we absolutely would. From the moment we arrived, the service was warm and attentive—special thanks to Salim, who truly made our evening. He’s the epitome of hospitality: kind, professional, and full of great recommendations. We went with the butter chicken and tried the chicken vindaloo on his suggestion, and both were outstanding. Rich, flavorful, and clearly made with care—every bite felt like a comforting, home-cooked meal. Can’t wait to come back and try more from the menu!

Google
Terrific service -- our server was very funny and also a really good guide in terms picking the best combination of flavors from the menu. The food was delicious. Portions and prices were ideal. This is now our go-to Indian place!!!!

Yelp
Food 10/10 Service 10/10 Ambiance 10/10 Khairal is one of my favorite people here he always welcomes us with the outmost respect and at this point he knows what we like so he always puts our order in before we talk lol. This is one of the best Indian food and you can't disagree with me after you try it. Many good spots around but this is the authentic as real as is gets to home.

Yelp
We ordered this for delivery. Based on reviews thought it was going to be stellar. I'll learn to temper my expectations someday lol It wasn't a bad meal. It just wasn't really good either. Done big misses. Got the vegetarian dinner for two, plus the chicken soup. The servings were plentiful - lots of food. The samosa was decent. Was excited. But...the soup was blah. I don't do spicy. I expect food to have flavor and not too require burning your mouth to do it. It had no taste. We didn't eat it. I'll do something to perk it up and make it edible for another meal. The curries: OK the Benghan (eggplant) Bartha was actually really good. The Saag Paneer was mediocre. The Vegetable Massala...IMHO the way they made it should be a crime. It was SO sweet! NEVER had Masala like this. Hope to never have it like this ever again! Bleeeeeeeeeccccchhh! They ruined my favorite Indian dish. The rice was rice. The Naan was flavorless and not a great texture. The dessert was rice pudding. We didn't care for it. We'll finish the leftovers (minus the Masala - unless I can fix that too...) But that eggplant...why couldn't it all be like the eggplant?

Yelp
I've been ordering from this place for a solid six months and I love it. Came in here one time to just give it a try and was blow away from the flavor, service, and atmosphere! Saleem the manager and Samad were so attentive and just an overall positive vibe! They just remodeled the entire restaurant so I totally recommend you go check it out! So much love to everyone who works here and I wish them all the best in their future business endeavors. BEST INDIAN RESTAURANT/FOOD EVER!

Yelp
When you first enter the restaurant, you feel like you're transported to India. The ambiance is so nice and moody. It's an amazing date spot for the ambiance alone. The customer service was next level. The server was so patient with our order. I have never seen customer service like the service they provided. I would literally go for the customer service alone. The food was amazing. Very authentic Indian food. Pricing was fair for the area. I would highly recommend it to everyone.

Yelp
It is my favorite Indian place. The owners always really nice all staff are very well trained. The food oh my God the food is so amazing every single dish that I've ever tried in that restaurant has been jaw-dropping also de restaurant is always clean have the tables ready for us and when I ordered to go always offer me a drink while I'm waiting.

Yelp
Been craving Indian food and decided to try this place out with my friends. We started off with veg samosas and ordered the chicken tikka masala, chicken saag, and chicken korma and some garlic naan. We told them mild as we don't like too spicy. We got our food and it was great! All the food was wonderful and tasty. The garlic nan was amazing, good amount of rice, and it was all great. The only thing was I didn't taste/sense any spice at all. The owner was the sweetest, best person ever. I will def be back!!! Parking: there's meters and a small lot in the back.

Yelp
My favorite Indian food spot in the valley! Not only is the food superior but they are always SO friendly and welcoming, they remember my name and my order and always give me a free drink :-) . Love love love this spot .

Lusineh B.

Yelp
I've left a stellar review before but wanted to leave a more up to date one because I've tried every Indian restaurant around and Indian Masala House is my favorite by far. I love dining in but even when I take out like today the owner is so hospitable and the food is just as good! I really recommend everyone try this place!

Yelp
Delicious food, huge portions, lovely staff, what more do you want ! We got vegetarian for 2 and there's enough for at least a whole other meal- and we are big eaters! Support small businesses! I wish I discovered this place before I start my January diet!
google avatar

Yelp
The best Indian food in LA!!! The chicken tikka masala with rice made with coconut milk as a dairy free option is out of this world! The kindest service, they go above & beyond to make sure you feel taken care of. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Garlic naan is a must as well! The ambiance is so beautiful. Lovely experience.

Yelp
We were craving Indian food and found this place on Yelp. Street parking is easy around the restaurant. The owner was very friendly. It wasn't crowded, so it was easy to get a table. It seems like they do a lot of to-go business. We ordered the chicken tikka-masala and the chicken korma. You can choose your spice level. I mixed the korma and masala sauces together, which I know is unconventional, but the creamy nuttiness of the korma went really well with the sweet tomato tiki-masala. Yummm! They were also tasty separately, especially the tikka-masala, which I would dry OME back for. We also ordered the garlic naan which was okay. The naan was a little dry and there wasn't enough garlic incorporated in it. Although we were the only customers in the restaurant, we had to wait a lot. It took a while to get our food, but at least we knew it was freshly made. But, after we got our food, and had finished eating, it took a long time before anyone came to check on us. We finally were able to get a box for our leftovers, but then no one could be found to get the check and again to pay the bill. Even though the owner and server were very friendly and welcoming, they were socializing in the next room not realizing we were ready to box up, pay and leave. Nonetheless, get yourself a great meal whether eat in or take out as it is nice to have some good Indian food on this stretch of Ventura Blvd. to support

Yelp
Based on the reviews from this restaurant, my expectation's were high. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in the taste of this food. I ordered vegetable pakora for starters. There was no variety. It was spinach. Spinach pakora. Not enough flavor. For the price , there was only 4 pakora. If I had just ordered the pakora I would have left after that point because the food was bland. Next I ordered aloo paratha. From my experience, the aloo should be stuffed. But it was not. The aloo was placed on top. More like naan with potato pieces covering it. It was not bad, but in my whole life , I have never seen aloo paratha made this way. it was not bad, but not great either. Finally I had the mixed vegetables curry. While the vegetables were nicely prepared the curry was taste less. It tasted like oil and heat. No other spice came through. White rice was long grain and good quality. Highlight of that dish was the complimentary rice. I am from an Indian background and can say it was below average with taste , presentation , however, was good. Overall, this is a 3.0 not 4.7. Would not recommend.

Yelp
My favorite Indian restaurant! Great food consistently. The service is prompt and friendly. Love the ambiance.

Yelp
We had a great time here. We used to come to this place when It was Carolina's and we loved it- to our happy surprise it's another delicious restaurant and we will be back. We came with our kids and had mostly no spice and one mild-medium and the level was just right. The food tasted very fresh, not greasy or oily, and that was delicious. The service was so kind and attentive, very sweet. We will be back!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I love this spot! Customer Service is top tier, atmosphere is inviting. I have food allergies and I have never had an issue eating there, as they are very careful and attentive to my needs. The food is insanely good and every recommendation they make I end up loving! They also have loads of vegan and vegetarian options which is great for my boyfriend who eats plant based. They serve beer and wine and have a great selection. Parking is easy, plenty of meters around. Pricing is fair, in fact they could charge more cause the food is so darn good and the quality is great! In my opinion, Indian food is medicine and this is the place I go to get it when I need a pick-me-up or when I just feel like supporting their wonderful business! 10/10.

Yelp
Delicious! Hands down the best ever!! It took a long time to find this gem! I love it!! So fresh and delicious! I had the paneer masala, the rest of my group had some meat stuff which they loved! Definitely worth a try, but I'm hooked!!

Yelp
We have been coming here for a few years now. It's a favorite. The food is good. We always get samosas, chicken tikka, vegetable masala, and naan. Our one-year-old finally got to taste the food, and he loved it. He kept saying , "more, more, more!" We usually have the same server, he is very friendly. He mentally takes down your order, and it always comes out correct. Very impressive. The ambiance is nice. It's a special place.

Yelp
I always order this place to-go and the service is always so friendly! I can only imagine what it be like if I actually dined in. The greeters and host always offers me a drink which I think is so cool! I don't come for the drink though. I come for the food! And Indian food is one of those foods you can grab to-go and it heats up perfectly again at home. The chef at this restaurant is a master with their blend of spices. Maybe I don't have a pallet for Indian spices but whatever they are doing is some next-level stuff. The lamb curry is sooo soft and it is the perfect consistency. Perfect for throwing on top of your rice and then using the naan bread to soak up the remaining curry. I must mention though that if you are not okay with spicy-ness to ask them to tone down their tandoori. I am pretty good with spicyness and even for me the tanodori was a little spicy. So just a warning there. Hands down the best Indian restaurant in LA in my opinion.

Yelp
Enjoyed our meal. They served delicious food. Generous portions. We will definitely return.

Mary S.

Yelp
Consistently delicious food, generous owners and management, incredible service staff. I love this place, through and through. Their samosas are beautifully spiced and flavorful. My favorite entries are the sag paneer, chicken vindaloo and lamb biryani. If you're looking for a flavor bomb comfort meal, this is your spot!
google avatar

Yelp
Outstanding food, very rich and flavorful. The lamb curry as well as the veggie curry are a must. Generous portions, great customer service skills and welcoming atmosphere. As first timers we were served a yummy complimentary dessert that was delightful overall ny husband and I had a lovely evening and look forward to our next visit. Thankyou so much

Lorenzo M.

Yelp
Chicken Tikka Masala is much too sweet. Garlic Naan is average- chewy, large portion. Take-out service is friendly. 3% surcharge on credit cards.
google avatar

Yelp
Woww! This place was SO good. We had the vegetable and meat samosas, veg pakora, chicken korma, chicken masala, shrimp coconut curry, lamb curry, eggplant bharta with garlic naan and everything was delicious. definitely our favorite Indian spot in the Valley. Equally our favorite was our server Saleem ( hopefully that's spelled correctly). He brought the 90 to 100!!Give yourself a treat and try this place!!

Yelp
Quite possibly the best Indian food I've had in LA. They take time, so don't go if you're in a rush. But, if you have some time, relax and enjoy. All of our food (vegetarian, vegan & meat-eaters) was outstanding! The starters through to the naan, entrees and desserts were mouth-watering. Even the dipping sauces were top-notch. I can't find a single complaint about the food. Not one. Everyone in my party of 4 agreed. We all can't wait to return!
google avatar

Arianna T.

Yelp
I love this spot so much. The owner always makes people feel so welcome & remembers his customers. They make the dishes I love dairy free, which is so nice to have the option! 10/10

Yelp
It's always these random places that's been in plain sight but always passed by. I can't even begin to tell you the many of times I've driven by but never tried. Well, finally we did. We stopped off on a Friday but still pretty early. Just towards the end of lunch before the dinner rush. It was pretty quiet, another family dining and one one family coming in during our meal. First off, the staff was very friendly which is a plus. The waiter that took care of us, very sweet and attentive. Menu did have quite a lot of selections which is amazing. And of course, everything is made to your spice level. Food when brought out was great. Even tried the cheese Nan which is new to us. It was good, more resembles of a quesadilla but good. The curry was great, both out masala and sagg was great. Rice was plentiful. Overall, food was good. Service was great. We did notice that loads of take out order la we're being picked up which is good as well.

Yelp
The best Indian food I've ever had. The quality, taste, and service is always A+ Been coming here for years and will continue coming here to Masala House. Thank you guys!

Paulina P.

Yelp
Greatest place ever. The owner is the nicest man ever, the food is absolutely delicious. The owner helped us host a family dinner there and god did everyone love it. The place is so nice it's has a nice moody almost romantic setting.

Yours T.

Yelp
We love the chicken tikka masala and garlic cheese naan here. The service is impeccable. The ambiance is mid. We hate that they open in the late afternoon. Sometimes you wake up craving this dish and wanna have it for lunch. They also charge a credit card fee of 3%, which in my option should be covered by the restaurant since it's a business.

Yelp
I've been going to this amazing restaurant for a while now, I don't know why it took so long to review. There are so many reasons to visit Masala House of course the exception food is the main reason. My favorite thing to order is the vegetable tikka masala this is a dish I have every time I have dinner here. My mouth is watering just writing about it. The flavors are so rich but not heavy they make me feel warm and honestly happy. The nan... wow it so airy fluffy and delicious you forget how many pieces you have eaten. There are so many different dishes to try. I come here with my family and I've brought friends here as well. They all love the food. The owner is so welcoming on my first visit he went over the menu with me explaining the dish and making recommendations accordingly. He's also good for a laugh. He comes to the table asks about my family and friends I've brought over, it feels like having dinner at a friends house. Oh the place gets busy and everyone there is always having a great time so I know it's not just me he's kind to. He knows his guests by name that's rare and a great quality. Please don't miss out. You won't regret it .
google avatar

Joshua P.

Yelp
This place was absolutely amazing. Garlic cheese nan + Chicken tiki masala was a great combination. 10/10 for me. The Tamarind sauce is also a winner. Overall a great experience. Will definitely crave this again.
google avatar

Lisa H.

Yelp
I gave it another chance and have to say they improved a little and our food wasn't as watered down like last time. The sauces were still a little thin but nothing like how they were previously. There was more flavor too. That being said, it was ok this time around. Cheese Naan - 9/10 my favorite of the meal. Garlic Naan - 9/10 very good Garlic Basil Naan - 8/10 just ok Chicken Korma - 7/10 needed more salt and was light on the seasoning spices. Chicken itself was very tender and they used all white meat. Lamb Vindaloo - 8/10 was more tender and the sauce had a good taste and spice level. Raita - 6/10 wasn't sweet at all this time but was way over peppered. I sneezed after two bites . Otherwise, had it not been peppered too much, it had a nice savory, tanginess to it. Mint chutney sauce - 5/10 watered down like crazy and didn't taste like much
google avatar

Damian O.

Yelp
Best Indian food in the valley. The main dishes are loaded with different, flavorful vegetables and not just a sauce as in other curry houses here. I've tried them all! Great service and good people
google avatar

Meredith S.

Yelp
Perfect in every way. Perfect for every customer. Regardless of allergens, lifestyles, financial class. If you pay money, you get plenty of food. If you tell them medium plus, it's as perfect as you can imagine. And every sauce is as I imagine it's meant to taste. Owner/manager is one person. He waited on us tonight. He's cool and funny and classy. There is a separate fryer for gluten free and vegan / vegetarian items. Wow. What a bonus. Atmosphere! It's dark and the music is good. We'll be back
google avatar

Yelp
Went to Indian Masala House for my daughter's birthday. The service was great! Everyone enjoyed their food. Chicken and paneer tika masala was tasty albeit a bit too sweet. Lamb vindaloo was excellent. All in all, a gem for Indian food in the SFV.
google avatar

Mel V.

Yelp
Was craving saag paneer and this restaurant definitely hit the spot! I also tried their chicken tikka and tasty garlic naan, and it was a really delicious combo. The staff are all very welcoming, and they offer fast, friendly customer service. Looking forward to dining in and trying more of the menu

Stephanie G.

Yelp
OMG, Indian Masala House is my new favorite Indian restaurant! I ordered a tofu masala entrée (surprisingly, they are generous enough to include a side of rice with it) with aloo parata (potato bread) and was delighted by their food! The tofu masala was delicious, seriously the best I've tasted along with the aloo parata. Apart from the fact that their food tastes incredible, it is actually affordable. I love Indian food, but I don't order it too often because it can get pricey, since they usually sell every item separately. Well, this is the first place I find that includes rice with their main entrée, which makes it more affordable. I usually spend around $28 for a dish with a side of rice and naan, but my total this time was only around $22 (tax included). I don't know about you, but $6 less for better food can't get any better for me. BIG HAPPY FACE! I love it.

Sequoia W.

Yelp
The chicken tikki masala is amazing! This place is pretty out of the way for us and it's the only Indian place we will go to! 10/10

Julie B.

Yelp
This is hands down the best Indian food in the valley -and believe me, I have tried so many. Add into that the warm and efficient staff - the owner, Salim was so patient with my guests, who had allergies and kept asking questions. The Tikka Masala was fantastic, as was the Sag Paneer. The samosas have just the right amount of spice - not too much even for me who is a wuss when it comes to spicy food - adding flavor without too much heat. Also, my son loves the mango lassi. Again, I highly suggest this restaurant for the staff and for the food.
google avatar

Shay K.

Yelp
This place is incredible!!!! Some of the best Indian food! We ordered the tika masala, chicken vindaloo, alo paratha, and veg. Samosa and all were delicious! The chicken tika masala was the best I have ever had. I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves Indian food and if you don't this place will change ur mind!
google avatar

Garrett N.

Yelp
Just ordered through Uber Eats and was pleased with the offering from this establishment. I have traditionally returned to my known Indian restaurants and thought it would be good time to venture out a bit. My Saag Paneer was fresh, flavorful and well balanced with a good sized entree portion. It arrived with small tub of fresh and flavorful rice - enough for 1.5 portions I'd say. I also ordered a side of Cheese Naan. Everything was tasty and well prepared. Although I'd prefer if they sealed the bag and placed any of the non vegetarian items in a separate bag, however those instructions were not followed. Nonetheless I'd return and order again.
google avatar

Yelp
My friend and I went in yesterday to give it a try. Definitely a hidden gem! I recommend the Chicken Tikka Jalfrezi it was really tasty and the potions are nice sizes!
google avatar

Dani S.

Yelp
Man this place is a gem for sure. From the moment you open the door to go in you are immediately welcomed by the owner. He is sooo nice and has a great sense of humor to make you enjoy your meal as well. My girlfriend and I found this place randomly but do not regret the experience at all. The food was great. We had a chicken soup to start but not your typical chicken soup. This soup had flavorrrrr. We also had the vegetable samosa and garlic naan which did not disappoint at all. Our main courses were Lamb Vindaloo and the infamous Chicken Tikka Masala. Both were excellent and packed with delicious flavor. The heat level was spot on too. Not too spicy and not too mild. For dessert we were kindly gifted some pistachio ice cream by the owner and we ordered a delightful mango lassi which is a drink similar to a mango yogurt Overall the experience was great and we will definitely come back to try new dishes. Thank you for a great dinner!

Yelp
I have ordered from here twice and both times it was amazing! Very authentic Indian food and delicious. I had the samosas and garlic naan and chicken tikka masala, all great. Highly recommend
