The people are super, super nice! The food was excellent and clean restaurant, clean bathrooms. They are closed every Tuesday and stay open late other nights. The wooden tables and benches make the place look unique. If you have the app "chow bus" they are on that for delivery services. Go grab a warm meal. Made to order even vegetarian style.

Google
A nice place to hang out with fiends and enjoy authentic Taiwan dishes. Yummy! Their menu has such a diversity of dishes and it could be difficult to decide. Try to come with more friends so you can try a lot of dishes!

Vinh “Diesel”

Google
Nice place to come for drinks and some Taiwanese dishes that I can't find elsewhere. Food is flavorful and the servers are cute and friendly. A lot of families come in here for dinner and later in the night it becomes more of a cool place to drink with your friends while eating a wide variety of dishes. The squid lips are the best! Unfortunately, not always available.

Google
The restaurant changed its name a while ago (not sure if the owner changes), but the recipes stay! Have been here many times since I was still a student 10 years ago; the taste is still the same. I love the place even though some dishes may be too salty or too much MSG (not everyone’s favorite), but I love the place!

Google
We came with a group that regularly eats in SG Chinese restaurants. One member has experienced at least 100 of them in his blog. I wasn’t expecting much given some of the reviews, but we all were pleasantly surprised. The food was some of the best we’ve experienced and yet in such an oddly decorated room. The owner/ chef and his wife were gracious. The food took a little longer than usual to be prepared/served but the wait was ultimately worth it it. We’ll be back.

One of the best Taiwanese food I've ever had in US before. Very authentic and good service. I would definitely go there again sometime to try out different dishes.

Google
We ordered clams and the clams had gone bad with disgusting taste and we got no apologies. Poor service. They don’t even serve you water. When they serve the dish, they put it on the far end of the table and you have to move it towards the center yourself. Plus they charge 22% mandatory tips for all this unpleasantness They charge 12.5% tax which is also incorrect. In San Gabriel the tax rate is only 10.25%

Google
This place used to be so great to visit, it was lively, always full of fun employees and customers. Now it's dead, the food is overpriced and doesn't taste good at all, on top of that, they charge a 20% covercharge on your bill without letting you know ahead of time. Absolutely will not come back or recommend it to anyone.

Yelp
I haven't been here for more than 4 year since pandemic. Now it's under new owner and new management. The Taiwanese food maintain the same good quality and authentic! Beer price is very reasonable, I would say much better price than some Korean places. I love we can watch soccer and basket game, their TVs are good size and all around the restaurant. On top of that, they now also hire a Cantonese chef, that you can ask their menu for Cantonese food. More variety the better! If you are craving Taiwanese, beer and some Cantonese dish, one place kills all stones.

Elena C.

Yelp
Honestly one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Sad to say we will not return and I don't recommend any newcomers to try. My family and I used to come to this establishment every weekend because they served good Taiwanese food. After management and chef changed, everything went downhill. Let's start with service. They don't even serve you water unless you ask for it, they forgot one of our dishes (not that we wanted it anyways since the food turned out so bad), and they would crowd the dishes on the table, crushing my chopsticks and chopstick holder. Onto the most egregious part... the food. Our skewers were overcooked, so charred we couldn't even tell what meat we were eating. The texture of the chicken was noticeably grainy, like it had freezer burn. The chicken cartilage didn't smell or taste fresh, with a weird, funky taste. The fried fish came out extremely soggy as well as had an unpleasant, fishy odor. The A choy that we ordered (at an unreasonable $16) was mixed with a different, cheaper vegetable (cost cutting measures, I presume). The grilled corn also tasted not fresh, with a slightly sour taste and dry kernels. In addition to the quality of the food being poor, the quantity was also very little. Much less than they used to serve. Overall, it was an extremely disappointing experience as my family and I used to love this restaurant. Very sad that this restaurant will be taken off our weekly rotation.

Sebastien L.

Yelp
Friday dinner at 7 pm - fried oysters, deep-fried chicken cartilage with spiced pepper salt, deep-fried odorous bean curb, three flavored squid, deep-fried chicken skin, sauteed a choy with garlic, stir-fried odorous tofu with thousand years old egg with basil, clams, and ginger soup, tea smoke duck, Taiwan premium black beer Service: ok, attentive Ambiance: Taiwan-style izakaya, casual, relaxed, and fun Price: ok Food quality: loved all the dishes, especially the odorous tofu, and the tea smoke duck. The three-flavored squid was outstanding. Taiwan premium black beer was super flavorful and refreshing. Remarks: Front and back private parking lot Highly recommend

Yelp
We used to love this restaurant. After a few years, we finally came back this past weekend. To our surprise, the restaurant was almost empty! There were about only 4 tables occupied including us. In the past, they were always busy and full with a long waiting list! What happened? The interior is still the same but the wait staff didn't wear the Native Indian costume anymore. The service was good though and fast. Food was good, not as good as before based on what I remember but it was good. A bit pricey though. $22 for just 1 small squab? The smoked duck was our most favorite. The soup was good but not as tasty as before. The 3 flavor squid was pretty good, they used to have 3 flavor forg legs but not anymore. The restaurant just felt so sad. Not sure if we are going to come back.

Cindy S.

Yelp
Beer food! Best place to watch game with beer! I love their Stinky Tofu and fried oyster!!

Larry H.

Yelp
Service was decent , but later got weird. She kept trying to make us order more food. What really killed the night was she started taking the liberty of ordering things for us and insisting that we ordered it. We definitely didn't order it, but I said it's fine cause they already made it. However, she kept doing it after that!!!!!! We were having a good time, but had to ask for the check immediately and left.

Russell K.

Yelp
I will not be returning here again. The food used to be amazing and authentic taste, but the quality has gotten worse and worse over the years along with the service.

Tiffany C.

Yelp
Authentic! Authentic! Authentic! This place took me right back to those re chao (stir-fried) joints, the interior is similar to the old school beer taverns in Taiwan, comfy and dim, old school mandarin music playing in the background. The flavors were spot on, very close to what we get in Taiwan, a taste of nostalgia. Make sure to complete the experience by ordering some Taiwan beer that serves in small clear taiwan beer glasses! Cheers.

Taoan H.

Yelp
New ownership killed this Taiwan Restaurant! Me with my wife , my daughter and 2 grand baby (1 year old and 2 years old), Beware, this is not the same restaurant as before, no wonder on a Saturday night there's only 1 tables. First time go back to this restaurant after Pandemic, when I walked in, i realized that a lot of things have changed. It was7pm, and there was 1 tables. the new Owner is speaking Cantonese, I realize can they cook Taiwanese food, but I did order 8 dish of Bad...Bad...Bad...everything is horrible and service was very bad. Be aware this restaurant automatically charge you 20% service charge and your tax pay for service charge too, on the bill without saying it. They are doing this is just so tricky and dishonest. Ripoff your money....... Just want to have everyone posted from my last review, for people have the same bad experience As me.

Louis L.

Yelp
Completely inconsistent with the picture of the food, and even the practice is not right, the taste is extremely poor, some of the food is not even much flavor, the amount of food is very small, the amount of food is more food is either tasteless or difficult to eat, even in the case of the store basically not much guests on the speed of the food is also very slow, in the check out of the mandatory guests to pay a twenty percent gratuity, directly printed in the bill, to sum up the experience is extremely poor!!!!

Theresa L.

Yelp
I think by paying this an expensive price for such good food I am very happy! If you want to enjoy the food with an expensive price and very delicious draft beer, this is a place to choose choose ! We have order 3 cups chicken very authentic. The fish mall. Chicken supreme soup is really good. The garden soup not only delicious but also healthy and nutritious. We ordered a deep fried crispy oyster. That is also tasty soft with a crispy crumb. The Hakka stirfry is combine was the driving hurt, salary, squared, and red chili that totally express the Hakka taste. We also enjoy their salty crispy chicken cube that is mixed with the five spicy powder which make the chicken very good. Anyway, this is a nice restaurant with a good ambience atmosphere and get food as I said if you want to enjoy a good food good beer with an expensive price this is a place to come

Sunny S.

Yelp
Terrible service, automatic tip! A 22% tip was added. The portion was too small, so I don't recommend going

Bella S.

Yelp
This restaurant had a change in ownership. Previously, the waitresses would wear Indian-style outfits, which complemented the Indian theme really well. Now, it appears to be owned by a different family and they run the restaurant themselves. Service is a lot slower than it was under previous ownership. I guess for most people, this is ok since it's a place you go to to hangout with friends, relax -have some beer, go out to smoke. For those who just want a quick meal, keep the slow service in mind. I wish they kept the doors closed so that the smoke from smokers outside wouldn't waft in. In terms of food, some dishes were absolutely delicious, while others were meh. The milk fish, stir fried rice cakes were not that great. The fish was dry and did not seem fresh at all. The rice cake dish lacked flavor and the beef in the dish was hard to chew. Their Mandarin-style beef on the other hand, was very tender and had good flavor. It's not spicy. Would get again. The minced beef fried rice was seasoned nicely. Would get this again too. The basil fish fillet stir fry was noms. Strong basil flavor and the fish did not have any seafood taste to it. Lastly, this place has some of the best skewers around. Get the lamb skewer and the chicken skin skewers. Each order comes with 2 skewers.

Teresa K.

Yelp
This restaurant is not the same as before. This restaurant used to be one of our favorite Taiwanese restaurants, with the authentic beer house style. The original owner, the "Uncle Yu", sold this restaurant to a Cantonese owner a few years ago and the taste just gradually change to the worse. Today, I feel so sad to report that the quality is getting so bad and I'm sure that this will be our last trip here. The chicken did not taste fresh. In fact other food like corn and the fish taste like they have been stale for a while. One more thing, the "A" vegetable we ordered came with two different types of vegetables in the dish, mixed with one cheaper kind. We are baffled with the reason for their practice. Not honest. I would have given it a one star, but a few dishes were decent: the three cup tofu, the eggplant with basil leaves and corn chicken soup.

Critic's Choice L.

Yelp
We were there for a birthday party. Service was horrible. Plates and glasses were not clean. Food was stale. This place is a shadow of its former self. Very sad.

Candice C.

Yelp
Be aware this restaurant automatically charge you 20% service charge on the bill without saying it. And on the receipt it has a place for you to fill out the tips. They are doing this is just so tricky and dishonest. The food portion is so small and pricey. Not worth it.

Jocelyn S.

Yelp
Food is so delicious but other than that everything else is horrible. Do not. Come here the place is so understaffed it only has one waiter. The service is horrible you have to ask for everything or else they ignore you. Also the place is way to dark. Don't dine in just order the food to go

Arcadia D.

Yelp
Just want to have everyone posted from my last review, for people have the same bad experience As me, you can call your credit card company to dispute the tips. I paid foe the food and add-on fees, but I do took my rips back. Other reminder, they use fried pork skin As fish maw, they think people wouldn't taste it?

Taylor Z.

Yelp
They added 25% tips to our bill without noticed me. We are just party of 4. They didn't show the tips they add when they show us the bill, but the card receipt is after tips. We almost didn't realized it. They play very dirty.

Mico L.

Yelp
I went here maybe a year ago now. Great food. Great ambience. Definitely will come back again. Service was great too. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately I don't have any photos from last time. I'll update this post when I visit that location again.

Stephany C.

Yelp
The owner changed and now everything sucks, service lousy, food doesn't taste the same, not good. No more of the Taiwanese flavor. Service sucks, they drop off the food and doesn't come back to check up on you and charge the table for more than 18% tips for only 3 people. Ridiculous. And expects us to give more on top of their TCC charge .

Hsin-Yi K.

Yelp
You can barely find any chinese/taiwanese food in 626 night market this year, YUP! NO STICKY TOFU...and most chinese/taiwanese restaurants closed early due to COVID. Luckily Indian still open at 9PM and they have lots of traditional Taiwanese side dishes! We started with an order of the sticky tofu, feeling so thankful to have Indian still open during this time. Love the taste of the cucumber (a little spicy with garlic) and the chilled squid. However the Taiwanese sausage is not that good, personally I think it doesn't taste like the regular Taiwanese sausage. Deep Fried Aji is definitely the MVP tonight, a huge portion with 6 fishes and it's super good! - Pitcher of Beer - Deep Fried Aji - Grilled Taiwanese Sausage - Tossed Cucumber - Chilled Squid with Sauce - Stinky Tofu

Yelp
New ownership killed this place! Yesterday I was suuuper excited to see that "Indian" was open! This was our go to spot for taiwanese drinking place! Once I walked in, i realized that a lot of things have changed. It was 7pm, and there was 2 tables. This place used to be packed at 7pm where u had to wait! First of all, they were playing super slow jams by Whitney houston, adele, and some other old school jams. It used to be upbeat music. Second of all, there was only 1 server and she was not dressed in the indian uniform like before. And the new owner was also serving. Third of all, I find it really awkward that the owner blocked off half the restaurant and looks like he lives at the restaurant. Check out the pictures i post. And worst of all is that he put his work desk in the middle of the restaurant and pretty much staring at my girl and i.....and he also had his shorts hanging on the bench to dry(check out pics). I really hope he reads this review and change up the place, otherwise it will def just be his resident w out the restaurant soon. We only ordered the popcorn chicken and sake and beer....cuz they didnt have skewers ne more. We didnt even finish our drinks cuz its jus so depressing w slow slow music n the owner staring at his desk in the middle of the restaurant lmao. Wat is he thinking?

SALLY C.

Yelp
Enjoy some Live Seafood Very Fresh!. They require pre-order for live seafood dishes. If your friends doesn't drink but they start to have 0% alcohol items but taste like beer!!!!

Chevy K.

Yelp
Very fun and energetic atmosphere. The food is delicious with so many options. The place was packed with private rooms and large tables.

Judy U.

Yelp
the restaurant stole money !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the bill didn't show the service charge at the beginning, but when they charged the credit card automatically add 20% without notice, and the most disgusting is the bill receipt also shows tips start from 18%~25% I recommend to pay cash if you really want to go. btw, the food is not worth to try

Jasmine Z.

Yelp
We came and stoped by the restaurant. And we found out they reopen. Even though they have change ownership. But the dishes are still yummy and good. Definitely would come back again with other friends. We have the three cup combinations too. It was sooooo good. I forgot to take a photo of it.

Alan N.

Yelp
New ownership blows! The fried pork intestines suck now. It no longer has the green onion inside and doesn't have that signature outer crisp anymore. It's old presentation is gone. They just dump it on a plate and let you deal with it. Some of the older favorites like the squab are no longer on the menu. Cute indian uniforms gone! Decorations gone! What made this place charming is gone! service is horrible too! They won't ackowledge the customer, it's tough to get their attention just to get a few drinks. The best days of this restaurant are behind them. I don't see this business surviving the next 2 years.

Alex C.

Yelp
Visited Indian, the Tavern last night with a few colleagues for happy hour/dinner. We were skeptical about how the food would actually be, especially since after ownership changes food quality and taste usually take the biggest hit. The most recent review also slammed the place, but we decided to give it a shot. We ordered quite a bit of food; from a skewer combo to salted egg shrimp with sweet corn to chicken soup to stir fried stinky tofu (just to name a few). The food was actually very tasty. It wasn't over seasoned (heavy msg) like before where every bite of food requires a a sip of beer. The menu has been slightly reworked, but most of the classics are still there. We had the chance to chit chat with the owner. He mentioned that Indian, The Tavern hasn't had it's Grand Re-Opening since he's taken over (start of COVID), so seating is slightly limited. He also mentioned that many of the waitresses do not want to work as they're collecting unemployment. So, the new owner is out there serving dishes and taking orders. All in all, a positive experience and we will definitely be back for more. This is one of the last Taiwanese beer houses in LA. Let's so them some love and support.

Eddie L.

Yelp
This used to be my drinking spot for many many years, the new owner killed it, food is nothing like how it used to be! They try to hard sell the drink, but it doesn't match their food at all! Pissed off weekend dinner!

vivian h.

Yelp
Despite all the negative reviews the food was good and customer service was good. I really hope their business pick up. I really love their chicken skin. So crispy and crunchy

Wendy Y.

Yelp
When arrived, the place was crowded and we had to wait for the seats. The food portion is very small and it is kind of overprice. The service is very slow. There is a long wait in between each dish. I will never be coming here again.

Ryan F.

Yelp
Tried this old restaurant under new ownership and the sad truth is that Uncle Yu's is no more. This replacement isn't serving legit Taiwanese food like Uncle Yu's did; the food is mediocre and disappointing. Won't be going back unless we hear that somehow the original food quality returns. The stinky tofu had no flavor or texture. A lot of the original dishes (tendon) are gone. The Taiwanese dishes still on the menu are poor attempts. Just wrong. Can you all find the original cooks? Maybe pay Uncle Yu to consult? lol All good things come to an end...

Daniel C.

Yelp
Came to this place in search for some homey Taiwanese food during Covid times. The restaurant is located inside the middle corner of this small strip mall (hard to see until you pull into the parking lot). This place looks nice and new inside but, it has the feel of a mom and pop shop. We were greeted by a nice elderly man who helped us find the dish we were looking for on their extensive menu. They have a website that you can order pickup from. As we were waiting for our food I heard a Chinese radio in the background. The food came out quickly and I could smell the delicious authentic flavors. The price is a fair and the portions are large! One dish was enough to feed the two of us. I can't wait to try out the other dishes this place has to offer!

Ceci L.

Yelp
This place is definitely not the same and.... Not great! They had a few tables but not a lot when we arrived. It took 20 mins to have server to come give us the menu and plates. Good that we already knew what we wanted, so we ordered right away. Then it's a loooooong wait for the food the come out. We saw food came out for other tables that ordered later than us, so we followed up. After we followed up, still we saw food for other tables coming out before us. Finally we got our food, we were disappointed. We ordered stirred fried beef but they gave us a full plate of stirred fried green onion with like three pieces of beef. We also ordered some vegetables but the taste is wayyyyy toooo salty/heavy. Overall, the taste is not the same as before and not good. With the service quality and bad food taste, we don't think we'll come back anytime soon.

Irene M.

Yelp
This place isn't the same with the new ownership. Food isn't the same as well. Service is REALLY slow. Total time from ordering to have all our food delivered 1hr 30min. We ordered 4 items. Will not come here again.

Elle D.

Yelp
We gave it a try even after learning about the new branding and ownership hoping that the food and experience would be the same. Sadly, the new menu doesn't have our favorite dishes from before and the prices were higher. Overall our experience was okay but we'd think twice before returning again.

Michelle T.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I found this place on yelp and decided to order a small meal. It's in the corner of a small plaza, and I never would have noticed it on my own! (I found the restaurant through a google search) I was on the hunt for a good Taiwanese-style bamboo shoots and shredded pork dish! I've been looking around for a LONG time, ever since the other place I used to get it from closed down!! It's so good here and was made super quick- only a five minute wait. The owner (I think?) was friendly, spoke English and was helpful in helping us order :) The portion size was really good! We already ate about half before I thought about taking a picture of it, so the portion is much larger than shown!! The prices are reasonable too. Currently, they have a 20% offer for orders places between 11am-3pm! We got there later so weren't able to take advantage of that, but we'll definitely keep that in mind next time :) I'm so excited to have found a place that makes this dish exactly how I remember! Will definitely be back to try more!

Christopher W.

Yelp
New ownership means smaller portions, increased prices and staff that's really really short. The food isn't what it used to be. The 5 star reviews seem fake to me, like someone's baiting fake reviews. This place will run 6 months max

Cindy T.

Yelp
Indian was a restaurant I pretty much grew up with. A local hangout where we used to go watch the game. Covid changed a lot of things. When I called last time to go. I asked the girl, is this restaurant the same taiwanese beer place. The girl who answered didn't know what I was talking about. How can you not know when you working at one. So apparently, they sold it restaurant and is no longer owned by uncle yu, which is fine. But going today was the worst experience. We sat down askin the owner to turn down the volume because he sat us right in front of the tv. The owner said no I can't. You guys didn't make a reservation, that's all you get. Ok fine! I'll deal with that. Then we waited 1.5 hours with only 2 dishes served. No cups, no waters, no service. Then we asked, pls check what's made, we like to cancel all that's not made. The only waitress in the restaurant said ok just cancel. No sorry, no apologizes. Ive never went to a place with such bad service. Sadly was my favorite restaurant before. Never going back again

Lily H.

Yelp
I ordered via app to pick up food, ordered at 6:17, was told to pick up at 6:47. And waited more than two hours at the door till 9 o'clock to finally get the food! Very disappointed! Way too slow! Poor management!

Anna C.

Yelp
I came here on a week night, after work, because I was craving Taiwanese food. I ordered three cup with tofu and chicken, deep fried oyster and five flavor with intestines inteston/pork blood/tofu. All I can say is I was not disappointed. The food was delicious and authentic. I just wish I had ordered more! This is a definitely a restaurant that I would come back to.

Yelp
good taiwanese food. everything on the menu is pretty good. glad its still open. great for beer and hanging out.
