Indies Coffee Bar and Speakeasy

I stumbled into Indie’s Coffee Bar & Speakeasy and immediately loved the vibe. It is cozy and inviting, with a creative and slightly vintage feel that makes you want to stay a while. The smell of fresh espresso and pastries hits you as soon as you walk in, and everything feels thoughtfully put together. The treats were great, fresh, soft, and clearly made with care. There are not a lot of hot food options yet, but what they do offer is done really well. I had a coffee that was perfectly made, strong but smooth, with great flavor. You can tell they take pride in what they serve. What really stood out to me was how friendly everyone was. The owner or GM came over to chat, and you could tell he genuinely cares about his guests, his team, and his shop. It felt more like visiting a friend’s place than a typical coffee stop. I have not been in the evening yet, but the speakeasy side sounds like such a fun idea. I will definitely be back to check it out. Whether you are grabbing coffee, a treat, or just need a quiet spot to unwind, Indie’s is the kind of place that makes you glad you found it.

So close to perfect, but… We walked into Indies Café and Speakeasy ready to love it—the vibe is cool, the menu looked amazing, and we were excited for our praline latte and blueberry muffin. Unfortunately the second we opened the door we were hit with a very strong cigarette smell that made it impossible to stay and enjoy anything inside. The coffee itself was also quite bitter, which was disappointing after the long drive. We truly wanted to give this place five stars, but between the smoke and the coffee we just couldn’t. Hoping they improve ventilation and coffee quality—we’d happily come back if they do.

Today I find myself at Indies coffee in Galveston Texas. The proprietor, Brandon, created a venue for those who enjoy high quality coffee and live music. Today I opted for my usual, cappuccino, a bit dry, in a mug. We also sampled several lattes such as the Lavender and Lone Star. To be fair, Indie also roasts their own beans, which gives them an advantage over other coffee shops. Which is fortunate for coffee lovers Iike us. My cappuccino was well crafted, flavor forward, and perfectly dry. The latte’s were equally delicious. Should you find your yourself visiting Galveston, look for Brandon at Indie coffee. Better yet, stop by in the evening for some live music and a cappuccino. You won’t go wrong. Enjoy

Visiting Galveston for the first time and found this unique coffee shop on Google. Always looking for a cool unique place to give my business to and this gem was exactly as expected from the other posts. When we arrived, I noticed the river across the way and wanted maybe some seating to stroll along but as we left, we noticed there is a space for that down the street. The owners are very kind. The pastries looked amazing but we had just had breakfast so I didn’t have one. Our coffees were perfect. I had the protein peanut butter and it was strong how I like it. Mild and sweetness. My son had the Matcha iced with coconut cold foam which was very sweet as he likes it. Thinking about heading back tomorrow night at 7 PM for live music.

The barista was incredibly personable and knowledgeable. Talking to him was like catching up with an old friend. There were so many options it was hard to choose, but I went with the barista’s recommendation to get the coffee (deciding between the matcha and chai) and I’m so glad I did. We even got to see the in house roaster which was so cool. The pastry case was also stocked and hard to choose, but the mushroom flatbread and banana muffin were perfect. Definitely found our new spot, try it for yourself!

We stopped for a coffee while visiting the Island and were amazed at the quality and service. The choice to stop here was based on a quick google search and recent high reviews from other patrons. The owner was friendly and the comedic banter was refreshing. Then we got our coffee… without question, it was the BEST coffee we’ve had in a long time. The owner roasts his own beans and the flavor is unparalleled. We wholeheartedly recommend stopping by if you’re visiting Galveston. We will definitely be stopping on our next trip.

We were in town for our niece's wedding and saw great reviews. Some of the best coffee we've ever had. My husband's Americano smelled amazing! My latte was delicious and one pump of flavor was just enough added sweetness. Muffins were good too. I thought to get a photo after I started drinking my latte. Owner was very knowledgeable and friendly. I should have bought beans there, as he was actively roasting while we were there, but I've already placed an online order.

Wow... Probably the best coffee around. Atmosphere was on point and so was the vibe, from the decor to the seating. Owner is a solid guy, super nice, and definitely makes his customers feel welcomed. He took time out of his busy day to introduce himself and the beautiful shop. This place is Vet friendly, owned and operated by a vet. Coffee is beyond good, it's absolutely great. Desserts and baked goods were amazing. Live performances Thurs-Sunday during the summer. I highly recommend giving Indie a try. Once you do you will become a regular there. I feel like I definitely got more than my money worth here. Great coffee, great entertainment, and great atmosphere. Can't wait to return. Got a jalapeño cheddar boudin pastry, date goat cheese almond honey pastry, and a cheddar boudin pastry. Got 2 espresso shots, 1 with oat milk and 1 black. Decent value, fast and friendly service, spacious seating. A good stop if you're driving southbound!

Such a vibe! The shop is super unique and amble seating for morning or evening. Owner is super friendly! Great morning options from coffee to pastries. Definitely worth a stop in & enjoy!

Brandon serves up the best coffee and food paired to match your taste. He is a very hard working owner and employee. This is a great place to catch a show on the stage or just grab a cup and relax. Whatever you do, dont miss this spot!

It was a marathon day in Galveston for the family. We had two more things to accomplish before sleep and needed a little pick me up. Found Indies online and decided to swing in for a cuppa. What a beautiful space. The artwork, all by a local artist Gene Barron (we were told they're looking at featuring a single artist every month or so) set the vibe nicely. We were greeted by Brandon Jones, the owner, who was both extremely friendly and informative. He let us know the space had just opened at the beginning of the month, they host live music (bluegrass!) and that they roast the coffee daily. There are several varieties and you can also take a bag with you if you like. He's also a former Marine and was a Hollywood mover and shaker for a few years before entering into the coffee game. He brings both of those things together in the shop... having blends both named after famous movies and selling some to benefit military charities. I ordered a straight up cup of coffee. Told him I wanted the coffee... house blend... his recommendation... and he poured me a cup of "The Breakfast Club" and it was delicious. In fact, while he was making the coffee drinks (a latte and a decaf mocha) for my kiddos, I finished my coffee and got a refill. I also got a pack of coffee beans to take home. He said they're working on making a deck happen, which would be great because outside the back door is water. Delicious coffee. Great conversation. Wonderful artwork. A mind to help promote and host indie music and indie art. I will be making this a definite stop when I visit Galveston. .

This place is awesome! Killer empanadas, to die for coffee blends, and super hospitable service. Absolutely recommend this place for breakfast or anytime really. Can't say enough good things.

We were in Galveston to get out of the house on a Sunday afternoon, and we went to get lunch at another restaurant. On the way out, heading back home, we decided to visit Indie's Coffee Bar & Speakeasy. We were impressed. Everyone was happy with their drinks, and the place had a good, cozy atmosphere with plenty of space. We came when it was slow so we had more than enough space to sit. Based on the person behind the counter, the place was packed the night before with the live music. It's good to see a place that stays open late with live music, unlike other indie coffee shops that close early with nothing else. It was reminiscent of some coffee shops I used to visit when I was younger. The guy behind the counter was kind and courteous, answering the questions I had about the place. If you are in the area I would recommend checking it out.

Great caramel latte and very nice service! I was in Galveston for a study retreat and stopped by originally to study here but unfortunately it smelled strongly of someone having just smoked a cigarette so I didn't stay to study. But I truly enjoyed the coffee and the barista/owner was very nice.

We are having a nice evening in Galveston at Indies Coffee Bar and Speakeasy. The savory and sweet pastries were very light and quite tasty. We came to listen to songwriter/guitar player Jay Williams. He had a smooth, jazzy set (I may be corrected, but the songs were very good. Coffee and wine selections were nice.

Great place to study! Loved the carrot cake and little house on the praline latte. They also do a discount for UTMB students. The atmosphere is cozy, chairs are really comfortable and they are open pretty late which is nice.

Geeat place. The interior is fantastic, nice, cozy, great stage area for bands or other entertainment. The owners are great. Brandon knows what a good cup of coffee is and he is passionate about people being able to enjoy coffee. I've had the Americano and the cold brew from here and both were very good...no additives, just the coffee. If you're a coffee fan, I would give this place a try.

Really good coffee; you can taste the quality difference. I stopped by on a Sunday morning and grabbed a basic cappuccino. Owner is very friendly and welcoming. Would visit again next time I'm on the island.

This is my first review, but I have to say that this is a very great place to go. I highly recommend it to all the locals and those that are traveling from other locations.

Went in for an espresso martini and found out there is no liquor license yet so had to settle for a regular coffee drink. Coffee was good for being on the island but not exactly what I was looking for. Services was okay.

Best coffee I've ever had! Great ambience, friendly service and really an amazing cup of coffee. If you're looking for a place to chill, have a few beers, a snack and great coffee, stop by! Dropped by on a night with live entertainment and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

The atmosphere of the coffee shop is smooth like their coffee! I got a Coconut Mocha & my husband got a Dulce de Latte, both were rich in flavor & the coffee beans have little to no acidic taste which is just a win! This is how one knows their coffee is fresh & grounded daily. We also got the beef empanadas which we also really enjoyed; their carrot cake is delicious too! This is a small business owned by a hard working family; the owner Brandon is intentional not only about serving the best quality coffee & being knowledgeable on the matter but also making connections with the people who walk through the doors.

Awesome ambiance and the people working definitely know their coffee, they even roast their own beans in house! Super friendly and you can actually taste the coffee here unlike most other places. Also nicely priced, no overpriced drinks either. Definitely gotta come and visit if you're ever in the area, i know i'll be back.

I was recently in Galveston for business. I needed my morning coffee fix and boo-yaaa, ended up at Indies. Good lawd, what a place. The coffee was delightful and the service (The owners, Brandon and Carla, were brewing their masterpiece) was outstanding. We got to talking and I could not have been more impressed by the coffee but Brandon/Carla as well. The place is absolutely beautiful, and you can tell that there was a lot of thought and love put into this place. I'm from Southern Cali and coffee shops are a dime a dozen out here. It blew my mind, how in this tiny little town, I found a coffee shop that, not only rivals, but surpasses the stuff out here in Cali. Indies is the Real Deal. Brandon even invited me back for the Grand Opening. Wifey and I have to be in the Fort Worth area visiting our son at TCU later this month. I know it's a drive up to you guys but Brandon and Carla, we'll be at your Grand Opening. I love supporting new businesses and wish you both the very best in the future.
