"Perfect for a meal right before showtime in the West End, the Indigo restaurant at the One Aldwych Hotel comes with the added bonus that its entire menu is gluten- and dairy-free. Head upstairs to airy, modern mezzanine overlooking the beautifully appointed hotel lobby and enjoy a guilt-free meal that's also pretty affordable. "

A coeliac's dream! Amazing to be able to eat completely gluten free and not have to worry, and the food was incredible too. I could not recommend the fish and chips enough - so crispy! I barely noticed everything was also dairy free it was that good.

I was gifted a champagne breakfast experience which I was so excited for. Unfortunately we didn't get any juice or pastries as promised, but we did get hot breakfast with toast and jams as well as a coffee. We opted for cocktails instead of champagne which we were happy about. The food wasn't worth the price (if I was paying) and didn't look like a lot of the images online, but it was still a good start to the day and the service was perfect.

Loved this restaurant , yes it’s dairy and gluten free (all dishes) but it even impressed my normal partner. The service was attentive but personable , we were never rushed or sat waiting for wine! Will be going back to try their Yorkshire puddings !

Google
Wonderful service, small portions. Way too expensive. £36 for mediocre, fatty fish and chips. Catch of the day fish was excellent. We filled up on the excellent bread. Lamb loin was okay, a bit chewy. £254 for 4 people with no wine, no pudding, 4 beers. They gave us surprise slices of birthday GF chocolate cake. Very nice.

The service was first class. The chef even substituted vegan options for the 3 course lunch set. Food was amazing and the atmosphere was just so christmasy! I enjoyed dining here.

Google
For sure, this place is certainly allergen friendly. However, with this high of a price point, I would expect the food to be more substantial and contain some semblance of flavor. I would not willingly return. I don't recommend this to travelers it is not worth the time or money.

I dined here with my partner for our anniversary. We had a wonderful meal in a wonderful setting with a wonderful ambience after watching the Lion King. The staff at this establishment are all impeccable and very welcoming. Service was excellent from start to finish, and I would be delighted to dine here again. I would like to give a special shout out to 🌟LEROY 🌟 for making our anniversary so special with his attentive and caring service. He also went above and beyond in making that moment memorable for me. I will cherish that forever 🌟. The food was amazing with so much flavour in each bite. Thank you to the chefs who prepared it. 💛💛 Best customer service, I've had this year. Thank you INDIGO!

Google
One of the best birthday lunches I’ve had! The food is delicious and beautifully presented! The menu is reassuringly small, but there is something for everyone! As a coeliac it was great to know everything on the menu is gluten free so no concerns about mistakes or cross contamination! The team in both the restaurant and the bar, where they serve the best cocktails, are welcoming and friendly and the atmosphere is delightfully informal, but at the same time feels very special. We will definitely be returning and I look forward to trying the treacle tart which was sadly not available this time.

Yelp
I wanted somewhere special to celebrate my birthday on a recent trip to London, and after extensive research, I settled on Indigo, it's located inside the luxury hotel, One Aldwych, just off the Strand. The menu was extensive and entirely gluten and dairy-free, I had so much to choose from. This restaurant offers fine dining without pretentiousness. It allows the quality of the food and service to shine without relying on a pompous atmosphere or subpar elements like other restaurants in the city. I managed to make a reservation easily on the same day as my reservation on OpenTable and sat at a table by the window, which had nice Instagrammable views of the city. Shortly after my entire party was seated, we had some bread brought to our table, which was served with a butter alternative, which I recall may have been a pistachio cream. I wasn't a fan of the bread, although it was served hot, which was a nice touch. My party did not eat this. It was not charged onto the bill; I am not sure if it would have been if we had eaten it fully. I decided to go for the Peterhead Cod In Beer Batter, which came with triple-cooked chips, crushed peas and tartare sauce. The hand-rolled potato gnocchi, venison, halibut and 28-day-aged Irish rib-eye dishes also sounded tasty, but I felt like a proper fish and chips. My entire party of three ended up opting for the same dish. The fish was stunning, considering this is a fine-dining restaurant, I was surprised at the generous portion of the fish, the cod was a fantastic quality, far superior to what you'd find in an average fish and chip shop, it just came apart with my fork so easily, the batter was crispy, and the seasoning was on point. I particularly liked the sides, too, including a special vinegar, which was very strong but certainly packed a punch and enhanced the dish even further - even for someone who usually detests vinegar. The tartar sauce was also made with great quality ingredients; I would have liked it a little more wet as it didn't feel like a sauce, the peas again were fresh and tasty, and the generous chunk of lemon to squeeze on the fish again proved all components of the dish were well thought out. I knew I'd made the right choice. The chips were tasty, too, I would have perhaps liked a few more, though, even if the portion of fish was slightly less to give the dish even more balance. I did have to ask for a separate drinks menu, as it only included beer and spirits, they don't have a restaurant menu for cocktails, however, my waiter handed me a menu from the Lobby Bar downstairs, and I was able to order from that. The cocktails again seemed unique; I hadn't heard of anything on the menu - my usual favourite, a Long Island, wasn't on there. Instead, I went for an Arizona Bloom. The Arizona Bloom was listed on the menu as containing - Coconut and saffron-infused Havana Club 3 rum, 21 citrus, Franklin & Sons pineapple and almond soda, and Henner's sparkling wine. It was excellent, the presentation with the work along the glass and leaf inside the drink made it feel like it was served in a fancy cocktail bar rather than a fine-dining restaurant, they had been generous with the alcohol as it was strong and delicious. There is a service charge added onto the bill, but again this is pretty much the standard everywhere in London, not a practice I agree with, but our waiter performed exceptionally, placing napkins on our laps, and came over regularly to make sure our drinks were never empty and we had everything we needed. The food and drinks were exceptional, and while it wasn't cheap to dine here, it certainly is a place you want to go to mark a special occasion such as a birthday or wedding anniversary as a treat, with excellent food and service, and the fact the entire menu is gluten and dairy free, yet still anyone dining here who doesn't seek allergen information wouldn't realise, the food is that good and that for me warrants a full five-star rating.

Yelp
Kudos to a great concept of a completely gluten free menu. It's been a blessing to find a menu that's completely gluten free as a family that has several allergies. The atmosphere is very upscale and it's and has very professional and prompt service. Everything is tip top. My only issue is the portion of the mains leaves a lot to be desired. Entree price for an appetizer size plate and that was really my only gripe. It was like 4 bites of food...so just bc it's gluten free doesn't mean we don't like a decent portion !! We had the potato galette which was delicious but skimpy. Dessert was decadent and very well done. Chocolate cake and satisfying. I still liked the place and recommend!!

Yelp
We accidentally happened on this place when we were in London in June, and then happily chose it again last week when we were back, not realizing that it was the same place we loved before. Food was great. Service was so-so. But, in London, we've come to expect the so-so in many places when it comes to service. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Absolute hidden gem for GLUTEN FREE folks. Tuesday breakfast: Menu was partially gluten free. I ordered the GF buttermilk waffles which they prepare in a dedicated setting(they don't have regular waffles). Extreeemely good, medium thickness, with a crunch when you bite in. My side of scrambled eggs and tomato was also excellent; I think they maybe snuck some cheese into the eggs as they were a bit creamy? Wednesday dinner: Menu was completely gluten free including the complimentary sourdough rolls served with housemade butter-- best GF bread EVER! We even requested a second round. The quail appetizer was perfect. The steak was fancy and cut like butter, and the potato side dish also just tasted like delicious butter. My BF liked the beer battered fish, which was the cheapest entree but probably a rare find for any celiac. To get to the restaurant, you go into the hotel and up one level. The vibe is very quiet and proper.

Yelp
We are staying at the hotel where Indigo is located and came here for breakfast. My husband ordered the full English breakfast, and I got waffles, crispy streaky bacon, sausage, eggs, and hash browns to share with my two-year-old toddler. The staff was accommodating and kind. My son is going through his terribly twos and I tend to avoid eating out because I HATE when he acts out in public. Anyway, the staff engaged him and my son enjoyed this. I thought my bacon, hash brown, and eggs were great. My son LOVED the scrambled eggs and kept asking for more. I was fond of the sausage, creamy buttery eggs, bacon, and hash browns. The waffles were okay, but they were as good as the other items I ordered. I'll be ordering room service tomorrow morning from the restaurant because of today's great experience.

Yelp
Had a pleasant experience. Nice ambiance and servers. Was a bit disappointed by the food choices (a few things I wanted were "sold out" and the other dish I wanted was not amendable). Finally settled on a fish which was fine. The other two members in my party enjoyed their food

Yelp
Gluten free restaurant in a gorgeous hotel in the heart of London. I surprised my GF hubby with this spot during our stop in the UK. We had a funny and cool waiter that answered all our questions. Hubby enjoyed his sweet meat dish. It looked really good and he said it was delicious. He is also a picky old-fashioned bourbon drink fan and he LOVED their old-fashions. I loved my Fish and Chips...I mean I was in London after all. The final topper was a nice cup of Darjeeling tea. Great night. Dress cute, the crowd is hip and sexy.

Yelp
They had me at passion fruit vanilla martini (with a side of sparkling wine)... Food/drinks: The concept of a fine dining spot being entirely gluten free and dairy free blew my mind. I had to try it for myself! Beer bettered fish and chips made me feel like I was getting a proper (yet elegant) English meal; fish was excellent, crispy and juicy while chips were just okay. Cornish monkfish was also tasty and expertly cooked. Bread was hearty (and still gluten free!). I was uncomfortably full after splitting those dishes with a friend. Also, did I mention that delicious Maverick Martini?! Service: Hostess was awesome; she was flexible when my dinner date was running very late and let me reseat myself. Waiter was friendly. Unfortunately, he often showed up when we didn't need him and was no where to be found when we did; he was the only one for all the tables. Ambiance: The bar below is beautiful and can be seen from the Indigo dining area, which sits on a balcony. The food presentation is beautiful. The aesthetic is beautiful. It's unstuffy luxury for all. Tip: Pre-fixe menu seems like a great value; we spent more on 2 entrees, with no starter or dessert. High on my list for my next visit to London! The plentiful options, delicious cocktail, allergen friendliness, and flexibility with my late date bump this up to a high 4.5.

Yelp
The locally sourced food here is reasonably priced yet mediocre. But worse was the rude (and probably racist) hostess in the front. A sad and stark contrast to the hotel in which the restaurant sits where the wonderful staff staff a wonderful hotel. Skip the restaurant however much better choices to be had nearby.

Yelp
Arrived this week to attend Wimbledon to finish our tour of the Grand Slams of tennis. Forecast rain today so bought Debenture Centre Court tickets for Thursday, July 6th. Staying at The Waldorf Hilton London and Indigo was half a bock distance away. It was raining hard and this restaurant fit the bill for wife's culinary requirement of gluten and dairy-free, seasonal and sustainable cooking. Upscale restaurant located on the mezzanine of the Indigo Hotel. Since we came in from the rain, the hostess immediately ask for the wife's wet coat and check it to the clock room. We were then sited by a window table observing the rain soaked people standing in the queue for the Lion King Musical across the street. Wine list and the daily menu was brought to us for viewing. Ordered the Seared Orkney Scallop with Confit chicken thigh with lemon and sea aster for starter. Slow Cooked Cornish Lamb Breast and Grilled Polenta for main. Sides are Mixed Leaf Salad and Triple-Cooked Hand-Cut Chips. Presentation was excellent and tasted right on target. Turns out to be quite a bit of food so we skip desserts as we still have Diet Coke and short bread from our British Away flight. An excellent dinner to close out our first full day in London. PS. The restaurant automatically added 1 € for the cancer society as a donation without my permission. The server then notified me that I can have it removed after presenting me with the dinner bill. Would be more appropriate to ask the customer first before adding the "donation".

Yelp
This place was so cool! We made a reservation after hearing that they offered a fully gluten and dairy free menu. We enjoyed multiple courses for our anniversary, and even tried dairy-free ice cream, which was surprisingly delicious. The bread was baked fresh, with a seaweed spread. Great starter. My gnocchi was the only real underwhelming course. Just kinda blah. The pork belly was excellent. All food tasted fresh, and the atmosphere was cool -- the mezzanine level of the hotel with a slightly lounge-y vibe. Would definitely definitely recommend for gluten free/dairy free people. This was upscale presentation and high quality food. Nice night out in London!

Yelp
I was very excited to try this place after reading all of the reviews. My partner is gluten-free and we love doing tastings with pairings so this seemed like a great fit. My first issue was the pricing to portion ratio. I have never left a tasting before without feeling like I could barely finish the last course. Here, I could still eat another meal. Also, not every course has a wine pairing. When our last course came, they never gave us another glass of wine and we were confused. We waited a bit, but since it was a frozen dessert we went ahead and ate it. When I asked if there was supposed to be a pairing with it, the waiter, almost condescendingly, said "You've already had them all." Overall, the food was good but the tasting is nowhere near worth the price compared to any other tasting I've been to.

Yelp
Great quality food and professional staff. The gluten-free and vegan bread was a winner, especially with the vegan nori butter spread. Our starters and mains all tasted great. I had the celeriac soup and potato gnocchi. The only improvements would be the sides. The potatoes and broccoli were boring and bland. Our dessert took almost 40 mins after our meal to come but it was worth wait.

Yelp
Excellent gluten and dairy free fish and chips. Beautiful, romantic, and cozy restaurant with great service. The food is so good and the menu clearly labels allergens. So glad we found this place. There is only one thing that was disappointing. This restaurant serves breakfast for the hotel in the morning and only offers one GF toast option which has nuts, a common allergen. Also notable for celiacs is that this kitchen serves wheat for breakfast.

Yelp
I went here today for a friend's birthday brunch and we had a fantastic time. Indigo's brunch menu is packed full of hangover-friendly treats, with a great selection of soups, salads, things on toasts, brunchy main courses such as bubble and squeak and fish pie and a great selection of stodgy puds. I selected a delicious creamed sweetcorn and crab soup followed by a beautifully-presented kedgeree. You can choose any comibination of two courses which comes to £24. However, the best thing about this offer is that it includes UNLIMITED PROSECCO. And I mean unlimited - they are continuously topping up your glass. Until the brunch ends at 3pm, that is. Highly recommended for a lazy yet classy catch-up with good friends.

Yelp
We had "Charlie and the Chocolate factory" afternoon tea. It was a very fun and unique experience that the whole family will never forget. Outstanding service from the staff when dealing with a family that doesn't have afternoon-tea experience! There was a variety of finger foods and biscuits which were delicious. The dessert - A lot! Delicious and also a great variety. Oh ya - the Tea. I had the Mango tea, my wife had the chocolate (yes chocolate tea) and my son enjoyed the black tea. Perfect blends, very tasty! Also, my daughters had the best cup of hot chocolate I've ever tasted.

Yelp
This is a nice relaxed informal restaurant that serves delicious fresh top quality food and all food that is served here is entirely gluten and dairy free. The restaurant also overlooks the lobby bar where it is dawned with a large flower display. The food is so tasty and the portions are a decent size I would definitely dine here again. Only one thing I don't like about this restaurant is the armchair type chairs I could not get comfy in them and sit up straight and I felt low down that is my only quibble and why I only am giving this restaurant 4 stars. They also do afternoon teas here at present there afternoon tea is based on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory which looks interesting.

Yelp
Wow I have never actually gaged from food untill I ate here. I went in, not realising its completely gluten and dairy free. I bit in to the "bread" and it was like biting into polystyrene. Then then the main came, absolutely awful. I do not recommend this restaurant. Everything tasted stale and had a vile chewy taste.

Yelp
What you need to do with your weekend is go to a free pour Prosecco brunch at Indigo and not worry about the fact that Monday is just around the corner. Tucked away inside a hotel, Indigo is home to a £35 free pour brunch. I keep saying free pour so you understand how amazing it really is. Let it sink in. Free pour. Bottomless. All you can drink. Can you drink a lot? Good! Come here! For £35 you will get two courses, choose between starter/main or main/dessert and 2 hours worth of free pour prosecco. Coffee is not included but who needs that? The staff are lovely and polite and will not rush you. They will come by and refill your glasses before you've even had a chance to get to the bottom of it. They're lovely and friendly and will be more than willing to indulge you in a little cheeky 'you've got a drinking problem' humour. In the battle to bring brunch to London (why isn't it catching on?) Indigo has got it down! Excellent full English, massive burger and fries, pancakes, mouth watering French toast and bacon (do you know how hard it is to find that in London?) You can even have a salad as your starter so you don't feel too guilty :P They let us stay past the time limit which I was grateful for after showing up embarrassingly late halfway through my party's meal. Great experience with a bunch of under-watered American pals who said they weren't going to go for the free pour menu but were ultimately converted. Be a convert, don't be a downer. Free pour!

Yelp
A very good restaurant, set on a mezzanine overlooking the bar in the lobby of this very smart and very modern hotel. Quiet (except when the bar below is full), fairly laid-back, individual, elegant and a bit corporate (in a good way) - don't bring a date here but for a business lunch or dinner it will be ideal. Less 'power lunch' than the Axis restaurant in the basement below.

Yelp
Came here for the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory afternoon tea. It was awesome. I can fully understand why it's booked up until Xmas. The food is excellent and the ideas genuinely made me feel like Willy Wonka had made it (though without the weird punishments which in reality are truly terrifying when you think about it...) The good thing about reviewing afternoon tea is that it's already broken down into components for you! The sandwiches: Good not great. The beef sandwich on rye bread was dryer than a {insert whichever metaphor you prefer}. There were also non sandwiches which was actually quite nice. A quiche, a brioche bun and a tomato salad on what I can only call a cracker? It was nice though. The sweets: Obviously the star of the show. When they came out you were a little bit wowed. It was all really fun looking and tasted awesome. Absolutely no complaints about this in any way. This was ace. The tea: ACTUALLY TASTED OF CHOCOLATE. Now please don't withdraw my British credentials but I'm not a big tea drinker. However this was really good and tasted of chocolate and tea. The cocktail: I saw it had whiskey in it and as a manly mans man I ordered the cocktail. It came in a tiny cocktail glass and a tea pot (steaming with dry ice) and was bright pink. It was awesome. Tasted great (and of whiskey which was nice) and you got a decent quantity! The service: Meh, it was ok. This is why it's 4 and not 5 stars. I had to wait for about 20 minutes to pay and I know I only had an hour to get home before my sugar rush faded... I would fully recommend coming here but I wouldn't go back again. If that makes sense...

Yelp
Unlimited free Prosecco!! Do I have your attention? Good, then I'll continue... I have only been here once on a Sunday for a friend's birthday brunch but we had a great time and the food was lovely. We opted for the set menu which included unlimited free Prosecco...and we made the most of it! I ordered the creamed sweetcorn and crab soup followed by the fish pie - all in all a fish-tastic meal - and both were very tasty. The waiters were very attentive and friendly, although perhaps might have had a word in their ear by the manager to slow down on serving us too much Prosecco...when they say unlimited I'm not 100% this is so. I have taken them down a star merely for the reason that they did slow down on our drinks service after only a couple of glasses each and we had to ask for more. Although we certainly couldn't be described as 'rowdy' we were having a giggle and this is a fairly quiet restaurant so we did actively have to try and keep it down. Other than that the food was great and the brunch deal was good value for money. I'd definitely recommend if you fancy a slightly upmarket Sunday brunching experience (and a few glasses of Prosecco!)
google avatar

Christie K.

Yelp
I suppose the more I rate restaurants the pickier I get with giving out my stars. Let's break it down. Service - Was very attentive throughout the meal. Food - Overall was a little on the salty side. Both the seared tuna salad and the beef short ribs would've been slightly better if I had a bowl of plain rice on the side! (you asians know what I mean). It was well presented and all and think it has a lot of potential because the short ribs were cooked to perfection because it literally melted in your mouth. The 50% toptable deal was good but not sure if I'd return without it.
google avatar

Leanne F.

Yelp
The restaurant is on a mezzanine floor looking out over the bar and despite clearly being a more upmarket venue still felt very relaxed and laid back with the comfiest chairs I think I have ever eaten in. Our waiter was incredibly helpful and very knowledgable despite only having worked at the restaurant for four weeks. (Although he did top up my still water with sparkling mid-way through the meal, yeuch!) At lunchtime you have the choice of either the a la carte or fixed price menu both of which change frequently. Every dish was beautifully presented but I found my own dish a bit bland and was left with food envy of those around me.

Yelp
I came here for a Sunday boozy brunch with two of my guy friends visiting from America. There aren't many unlimited drink/prosecco brunch places in London and I did my research before choosing this one. We opted for the two courses and unlimited prosecco deal for £35 each. Among our plates were: the burger trio, English breakfast, eggs benedict, truffled egg brioche with mushrooms, and blueberry pancakes. Every single thing was delicious. The food was mouth-watering. I was happy even without the alcohol. But the prosecco made everything that much better! Although some of the reviews say they kind of slow down service with the refills, i didn't find that. I was with two guys who can really put it back, one of whom is 6'7" and and has a high tolerance. And they refilled our drinks every 5 or 10 minutes. It was fantastic. I was so loopy I lost total track of time. I do wish they had given us a one refill warning. They told us while refilling our last refill (at the 2 hour mark) that our time was up. The service was otherwise excellent and for the money, it was a nearly perfect sunday brunch. If you want a classy boozy brunch, this is the place to go. Definitely book ahead. A couple girls tried to walk in for a table before us and got denied, the waitress said they were totally booked up. Anyone up for a Yelp boozy brunch? Yes? Yes!

Yelp
Wow. What a gem of a restaurant in the heart of London - and I could eat virtually everything on the menu, as it is all GF and DF!! My parents and I did our best to try everything on the menu that night (picture attached) and it was all fantastic. They started by bringing out little bread loaves that were SO delicious, they brought us a second helping and wrapped them for us to take! I asked for the recipe and they emailed it to me the next week. The appetizers, mains, and desserts (again, we each had one so we sampled the whole menu - see pics) were all delicious. In addition to the desserts we ordered, they also brought us complimentary petis fours. We were so happy-full, I'm surprised they didn't roll us out of there! The servers were all extremely attentive and welcoming. The manager, Jacopo, checked on us several times and even answered our many questions about the restaurant and the food. Overall, a fantastic experience. Thank you, Indigo!

Yelp
I can't believe it took me so long to visit Indigo. It's a fantastic little restaurant in the heart of the city. Everything on the menu is gluten and dairy free, and when I booked I advised them I had an onion allergy. This meant when they brought out the warm gluten and dairy free bread and announced it had onion in, I was disappointed until they set down a plain onion free version in front of me. I was so happy - It was the most delicious, soft gluten free bread i've ever had. 4 out of 5 of us had the beer battered fish and chips which was absolutely delicious though I was tempted by the potato gnocchi. Will have to have that next time. The desserts were delicious as well. We all got different desserts and tried the others, the best I think was the chocolate mousse followed by the caramelised banana and then the lemon cake. The service was impeccable - the wait staff were very attentive and polite. I was extremely impressed and can't wait to go back!

Tony J.

Yelp
A bit of a disappointment really. We know One Aldwych well and returned for dinner at Indigo. Somehow it didn't all hang together as well as it should (or used to). Greeted very warmly by the head waitress, we got the table we wanted with a view over the lobby. But our food was really not good enough. Our starters (supposedly crispy duck) were unidentifiable and didn't taste of anything. And they were served on a piece of slate which made the accompanying salad impossible to keep off the table. Dish or plate please. Then our mains: they do fantastic salads - you can build your own - and I would return for one of them. But my halibut was the smallest piece I have ever seen and the other mains were average only. Desserts not bad but almost overkill after the modest portions which preceded them. All in all I wanted to like this experience more than I did - they need to sort their menu out and at those prices the portions should not be so miniscule.
