Indira Gandhi International Airport is, without doubt, one of the finest airports in India and easily among the most impressive I’ve experienced over the last 10+ years of active and frequent travel.
The scale of the airport immediately stands out. It’s massive, modern, and well-planned, with world-class terminals, clean washrooms, good signage, and a wide range of food, shopping, and lounge options. Everything—from security flow to boarding areas—generally reflects international standards, making it a solid gateway to the country.
That said, one thing travelers must be mindful of is inter-terminal movement. The airport is huge, and walking between terminals can genuinely take 10–15 minutes, sometimes more depending on crowd and distance. If you have a tight connecting flight, this is where you need to be sharp. Keep an eye on your gate information, move quickly, and don’t assume transfers will be effortless just because it’s the same airport.
For first-time visitors, the size can feel overwhelming, but frequent travelers will appreciate how structured and systematic it is. Signage is clear, staff is generally helpful, and once you understand the layout, navigating becomes smoother.
Overall, IGI Airport is not just a transit point—it’s an experience in itself. As long as you plan your connections wisely and allow buffer time, it’s one of the best airports to travel through in India.
