The Best Restaurants and Bars in Palo Alto | Eater SF

"After Straits Cafe closed in 2012, Bryan Lew and Tommy Charoen took over the space and added an upgraded bar program alongside the familiar Indonesian flavors that gained the original business so many fans. Black pepper jumbo prawns, nasi goreng, balado short ribs, and Thai iced tea are all smart orders." - Becky Duffett

I dined here with 2 colleagues. We are in the food and hospitality industry. This place knocked our socks off. We tried 10 plates and a few craft cocktails, and this was one of the best food experiences we have had in a quite awhile. We dine weekly at restaurants across the country. Yes I am very lucky. Melissa was our server she was great. Linda the manager spent time with us and gave us the great back story of the restaurant.

This place has been an institution for decades in Palo Alto. We went in for lunch with office colleagues. The decor is nicely kept with tasteful southeast Asian artifacts. The nice entrance leads to an indoor bar/lounge, then into tables and then into heated outdoor tent enclosure. All of it screams upscale, befitting the upscale location it’s located in. The attentive staff lays off when you want to into sone business and swoops in when you are ready to order. The all time fav’s like the roti-prata hit the spot as usual, and other specialties are tasty - but lunch-sized portions leave the stomach a bit wanting for more. The place does get more lively at night and you might have to wait to get in on some days. But of get in there. It’s an elegant place for good food, conversation with colleagues and friends.

I’ve been a regular here for many years, and the quality has remained consistently great. It’s the perfect place for a casual lunch or dinner during the week. The ambiance is enjoyable, and the food is always top-notch with a wide range of options. The drinks are also fantastic. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a reliable and delicious dining The service is great

Great spot for elevated Southeast Asian cuisine.Cocktails are creative, and the vibe is modern and relaxed. A bit pricey, but worth it for the quality and experience. Solid service too.

I recently dined at Indo Lounge in Palo Alto and had a pleasant culinary experience. The Short Ribs Balado was flavorful, although it could have used a bit more spice to match my personal preference. The Bali Short Ribs were a standout, deliciously soft and incredibly tasty. The Martabak wasn't quite to my liking; it was shaped more like a samosa, which was unexpected. I would have preferred the original street food way that you would find in Jakarta. The mie goreng had a little too much sauce, almost soupy. The waiter explained that they have a new chef cooking. However, the Chicken Sate was spot on and perfectly cooked, making it a delightful part of the meal. Overall, Indo Lounge offers a mix of highs and a few lows, but it's definitely worth a visit for its unique take on traditional dishes. Our waiter was fantastic and the service was impeccable, but I’m not sure I would come back. The price didn’t match the authenticity that I was looking for in Indonesian cooking.

Great for team lunch or dinners. Do not have a very big parking lot. But definitely recommend this place as their food was great and even the ambiance, especially for mornings. However for dinners, the lighting is too dim and could be improved. I saw few people using flash from their mobile cell to read the menu. Coming back to food, they do present beautifully some flavorful plates.

We had a great dinner - every dish was perfect. The service was prompt and friendly. Enjoyed drinks appetizer main course and dessert within 90 minutes! Quitel flavorful preparation without being overly spicy. Excellent space for larger groups too.

Yelp
This is an excellent lunch spot. We crowded in, without warning, a total of seven hungry co-workers. After a very small wait, we were in seats with menus perched. The service is quick and accurate. If nothing else, they are well organized. Our server, (Pam?) took orders and delivered drinks with great efficiency. This was more business than meal, but we moved food around the table community fashion and everything tasted fantastic. Lamb Korma, Gulai Prawns, Duck Kapitan and a braised short rib that'll knock your socks off. They have vegan and vegetarian options, appetizers and small plates. Now for the bad news. Pricey. Very pricey. We were guests so I don't truly know the damage, but, we've been in these situations before and I know costly. This is costly. The quantities were somewhat generous which helps offset the price. The restaurant is very modern and sleek.

Yelp
The ambience sells this place more than the food. Came on valentine's day and I think they were overwhelmed with how many guests they received because our dessert never came out. :-( The mango papaya salad and vegetable satay appetizers were very underwhelming. I would not order these again nor recommend them. The noodles and sea bass were better. However, overall I was hoping to see a more fine-dining take on this cuisine for the prices.

Yelp
Indonesian fare(?). The Roti Prata was fine with 2 tasty curries, Gado Gado salad was ok, Lamb Satay was well done. The Mains were a bit disappointing - The Nasi Goreng was just an ordinary fried rice, the spicy basil curry was a basic Thai green curry. The Duck Kapitan was better of the lot, crispy fried duck with some red sauce & rice. Didn't find the food to have authentic Indonesian taste, their #1 Rendang, Bakso, Ikan Goreng were missing from the menu. Place is pretty big, good for large groups. Service is ok.

Yelp
Indo Restaurant and Lounge was very okay. The staff was friendly and efficient, smoothly clearing plates and packing food to go, but several aspects of the visit were disappointing. The atmosphere was not ideal. Construction noise made it difficult to hear the waiter while ordering and the restaurant closed for two hours to prepare for dinner, which seems enough time to repair an inside door leading to otherwise beautiful patio. The dim lighting contributed to a particular vibe, but the music--a mix of rock, hip-hop, and EDM--felt WAY out of place. For an indo restaurant, there was no Dutch, Chinese nor Indonesian beer for those either Dutch- indo or Chinese-Indo people. Traditional Indonesian music would have been more fitting. I'm not sure how the owner refers to this as an Indonesian restaurant as it performs very little indo culture besides a few Indo meals. We are Indonesian customers who were excited to dine here but were quickly dissatisfied. The food had its highlights and letdowns. The **sambal tofu** was deep fried tofu--crispy as ordered, with sambal requested on the side to prevent sogginess and a nice hint of lemon. The **nasi goreng** tasted good but it was odd that meat had to be specifically requested. While the menu offered chicken or shrimp for an additional price, it's unusual for Indonesian fried rice to come without it by default. The **lamb korma** was decent with well-cooked potatoes and a flavorful sauce, but not something worth ordering again. The restaurant also felt overly Americanized--not a single Indonesian beverage was available not even tjendol which was disappointing. The tap water had an unpleasant taste, and ice would have helped mask it. Small details like this can affect the overall experience. One of the best aspects was the decor, featuring Buddha figures but NO puppets maybe there was art? The staff was attentive and accommodating, but the food and atmosphere didn't quite capture an authentic Indonesian dining experience.

Yelp
Good food. Warm and inviting ambiance. Pretty interior. Great service. Outdoor patio that's dog friendly. Has its own parking lot. Need I say more? This restaurant is more upscale and pricier than most but the food and service is very good. Plus, keep in mind this is Palo Alto so the prices are standard for this area and acceptable for the demographics in this neighborhood. I didn't have a bad dish here. Tried the seafood green curry, pan seared Chilean sea bass, garlic noodles, and roti prata. The green curry was an interesting spin for me. It doesn't have as powerful of a punch as Thai curry, but it's surprisingly yummy even though the flavors are more subtle. I liked that they also offered a nice variety of beverages.

Yelp
Came here with the team for a company event. It's a pretty nice place in a fairly accessible neighborhood (plenty of parking). We ordered some appetizers (boat of scallops, mussels, lamb and chicken satay, papaya salad), some drinks, and some entrees (short ribs, Chilean sea bass, coconut fried rice, etc). I loved both meat entrees, especially the sea bass (no wonder it's house special). The portion is a bit little for the price. The appetizers were good but nothing particularly memorable. I'd recommend coming here in groups so you get to try more of the entrees. If value is not really a concern this place can be rated higher.

Yelp
My family is from Indonesia so I took my parents here for a nice dinner. We were expecting the food to not be super authentic and be a little more fusionesque, which was pretty accurate, but we still had a great meal here. Roti prata was very crunchy and flaky with a flavorful curry sauce but was not too special compared to other restaurants. We also ordered the green bean sambal, sambal tofu, and chilean seabass. The seabass was definitely the star of the meal, and lived up to the hype I'd read about in other reviews. The fish was cooked so perfectly and literally melts in your mouth. I wish that there had been more variety in flavors for vegetarian options because the green beans and tofu had essentially all the same flavors/sauce, though they had more kick than we were expecting! Finished off the meal with the black sesame creme brulee which was a nice mix of sweet and nutty flavors. Both the interior and outdoor patio were beautiful, and they do a great job of creating a peaceful vibe outdoors even though the restaurant is by a bigger street. Service was very prompt and pleasant and made sure we had an enjoyable experience here. TLDR, I wouldn't say that the food is the most authentic but there are some very good and unique dishes here I'd recommend trying, particularly the seabass! Great spot for a nice meal or date night, though a bit pricy for the portion sizes given.
google avatar

Adrienne A.

Yelp
The pan-seared Chilean sea bass was beautifully flavorful. The service was attentive, especially considering how busy the restaurant was. I asked the waitress for a tropical and fruity alcoholic beverage recommendation. She suggested the Passionfruit Caipirinha, which sounded delightful as I love passionfruit. While the drink seemed very well made, it tasted more like a margarita (don't like margaritas it tastes like drinking salt to me even without the salt on the rim) with a subtle hint of passionfruit, which isn't to my taste. I'm glad to have discovered INDO, tucked away just off El Camino. I look forward to returning for the wonderful food.

Yelp
I don't even know where to start, this place was near mind blowing. Everything from the food, to the ambiance, to the service was excellent. Our waiter absolutely crushed it. Gave us a lot of good recommendations and even managed to swap out a dessert for us when we made a mistake. MVP of the night. Food was absolutely delectable. Roti- soft, flaky, the curry sauce on the side I kind of want to take a bath in. Yes, it was THAT good. Savory and creamy at the same time paired with the flaky roti almost made it to die for. Boat scallops- soft and melts in your mouth. The pineapple chutney was sweet and very well balanced. Did not take away from the natural sweet flavor of the scallops. Mie goreng- Spicy, al dente, saucy, overall solid noodle dish! What can go wrong? I want to eat this everyday! Chicken Satay- Peanut sauce was excellent and the chicken had a nice grilled, char flavor to them. Perfect.

Yelp
I went to INDO on a Tuesday around 7pm, and it was packed! We had a reservation and got seated right away. The patio is absolutely charming with cute lights and decor, and I'm definitely sitting outside next time. I was really happy to see so many vegetarian options on the menu! We started with the mango lemonade and the green papaya mango salad--both super refreshing. The star of the night was the roti prata! We asked them to make it vegetarian (they swapped the yellow sauce it came with for a green one), and it was so good that we ordered two more! The sayur lodeh came with a similar green sauce, and we licked our plates clean. We also tried the pad thai and finished with the black sesame crème brûlée, which had some really unique flavors. I'll definitely be back--especially for that roti prata!

Yelp
Good food, service and ambience in Palo Alto. I stopped by for a small snack after spending the day at the HP customer center nearby, needing some sustenance before braving traffic on the way back home to Pleasanton. I parked in the small private parking lot (there was also some street parking available) and used the rest room (fairly clean) before seating myself at the bar. There were a few patrons (it was a bit after 5 pm on a weekday) but they were mostly seated on the outdoor patio. I ordered water and a Martabak ($15) - beef samosas with pickled onions and chicken curry. The dish arrived in about ten minutes and was steaming hot, the four samosas rolled in the same dough used to make roti prata (which I adore). I ate slowly, savoring each bite, occasionally dipping my samosas in the curry. The bar keeper was friendly, and we struck up a conversation around which soccer team we supported for the Copa America 2024 soccer tournament that is currently going on. The place started getting busy around 6, and I decided it was time to leave. Will be back next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
The food here is great and hasn't disappointed the 2 times being here. Service is great and the staff is friendly. They have inside and outdoor seating. Very nice inside. Overall a great environment and the food presentation is nice
google avatar

Yelp
Noodles are so good here, super flavorful and with adequate spice. Usually get the pad thai but got the mie goreng this time and it's a new fave! fast service even on the weekend. Ambiance is relaxing with dim lighting. Drink went super well with the food too

Yelp
This is my second time trying Indo. The last time I had Indo, it was before Covid. I didn't like that right as we walked in the server had mentioned a cake fee, and I wanted to take the cake back to my car but my friend insisted.. The service was okay, I didn't think it was super busy but they seemed like they just wanted us to order eat then leave. Food: My friends and I decided to do family style but just a warning the portions aren't too big so you might need to order more. Roti : 5/5, my favorite. Super flavorful Duck Kapitan : 4/5 it was soft and flavorful. Mie goreng: 5/5, great sauce and everything was good all together The papaya salad was very bland and I wouldn't get it again.. I'm not sure what caused it but my stomach definitely was hurting the entire time after I left home. So I don't think I would be back

Yelp
INDO is a pretty spacious place, both inside and outside with the patio an ideal place for lounging when it's not too hot and sunny. However, don't come looking for authentic Indonesian cuisine here. That being said, this could be just the right place for introducing your palate-timid friends to the cuisine. I am nowhere close to being knowledgeable on Indonesian cuisine but even I can tell this ain't authentic! The spicy Basil Chicken was evocative of a Thai curry; a dish I thought it would be a dry/wet stir-fry as opposed to a curry. The accompanying coconut Jasmine rice was really good though! it had a nice bite with a slightly sticky texture. I presume it was cooked in coconut milk, the toasted coconut flakes sprinkled on top worked really well. On another note, the mango papaya salad was delicious! All in all, INDO has decent food, some lovely drinks, and good service. I am quite confident you won't be disappointed if you're here to have a nice time with friends and family, as opposed to looking for authentic dishes.

Yelp
Friend suggested this place to celebrate our friend's birthday. We made reservations for 6:30. It was pretty empty by the time we arrived. Easy street parking. Love the outside lights. Great place for a romantic dinner or group celebration. We ordered: Poh pia: 3/5 similar to Vietnamese spring rolls. Martabak: 5/5 similar to samosas, nice fried outside layer, super tasty filling. Wok fried eggplant: 4/5 good Sayur lodeh: 5/5 a little kick to this curry, really tasty! Mei goreng: 3/5 a little sweet, ok Papaya beef curry: 4/5 good big chunks of beef Coconut rice: 4/5 coconut wasn't over powering Garlic noodles: 3/5 I have had a lot better Sesame crème brûlée: 4/5 interesting! Strong black sesame flavor, good consistency Ginger chocolate cake: 4/5 good moist and a hint of ginger Mung bean pudding: 4/5 tastes more like vanilla than mung bean. Friendly efficient service. They comped our deserts and brought out a candle for the bday girl.

Yelp
This place may not look like much from the outside, but once you get inside, it is gorgeous with dim lighting and beautiful decor. The best part is the beautiful patio in the back of the restaurant - it is covered with ample heat so you can enjoy it any time of the year. The service is always very efficient, they are quick to seat you, take your order, and bring out your food. They make sure to great you at the door upon arrival and when leaving. I typically only order wine from here, so I cannot speak to the bartending. The food is delicious and is the star of the experience. I always make sure to order the roti and the garlic noodles, while rotating my protein option, but have not had a bad dish yet. This restaurant is delicious and worth a special trip from the city.
google avatar

DrDuru A.

Yelp
I will start by saying INDO has the best sea bass I have ever had. Hands down. Absolutely delicious. Sweet. Tender. Clearly cooked with care and love. The roti was excellent. I haven't had it in a very long time so it's hard to compare, but I wished at the time we had ordered an entire basket of roti! The dipping sauce was a fantastic complement. The chicken pad thai was high quality and delicious. Scallops were delightfully presented, including a tasty mango compote. We would have ordered one more serving but we got the last one of the evening (apparently there was another scallop happy party in the house). Everyone enjoyed every food item. Food they loved but I didn't tasted myself: lamb korma and Bali ribs. Desserts were reportedly good as well. They were out of the chocolate cake I would have tried! Service was too notch as well. This is the former location of Straits Cafe and it has a lot of the same look and feel. I even had flashbacks. I didn't realize another place had opened up here. While Straits was and is one of my all-time favorite restaurants, INDO is an exciting upgrade. I can't wait to go back to try other (familiar) regional dishes!

Yelp
Went here to celebrate a friend's graduation with a larger group of 12 people on a Wednesday night! I tried the mie goreng (first time having this dish) and thought it was quite good and not too spicy. The drinks were also wonderful, both alcoholic and non alcoholic. The thing that really stood out was our waiter - I didn't catch his name but he went above and beyond for us and was super accommodating even though larger groups are tougher to deal with. Always was checking in and answered all our questions! Will be back if I'm in the area
google avatar

Yelp
Indo is cool! the drinks were cool. the green curry was cool. and the noodles were cool. and I learned Rama's wife in Javanese is Shinta not Sita!
google avatar

Yelp
Had an amazing meal at Indo. They have a parking lot but it was full when we arrived. Service was excellent and food was delicious. The drinks were so tasty, especially the pomegranate peartini. I recommend the roti, chicken satay, short rib, and noodles with shrimp. I wasn't crazy about the scallops and didn't particularly care for the mango tapioca dessert which was super sweet. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly.

Yelp
Was in Palo Alto for the weekend for an event and a friend made our large party (12) a reservation here. The space was really cute, long and narrow with a sheltered patio at the end. The service was...wonky. On the first pass, they didn't get everyone's drink order, so it took a while until we all had beverages and turned our attention to the food menu. But, my gin sour was sweet and sour perfection. In fact, I would have had a second one of the server had come around again. We ordered a number of appetizers for the table and everyone raved. A rolled stuffed bread was declared the overall favorite. Then it was on to dinner. This also went a little weird- I ordered a sambal tofu from the veggie menu and literally got a bowl of tofu. No veggies, no sides, no rice. When I ordered the server didn't say anything about it not being a meal, nor was the menu clear. I asked for some rice to go with, but it never materialized. This happened to several of us, so I wasn't the only one confused by the menu. But, it was very tasty. Since my meal was small I did end up getting dessert. The black sesame crème brûlée wasn't crème brûlée- wrong texture, with the barest suggestion of a sugar crust on top. But still quite yummy, so other than suggesting it be renamed, I can't complain too much. So I'd say it was good, but attention to detail with service could easily make it great.

Yelp
Having bookmarked this place ages ago and having heard nothing but good things, I finally made the trip and the reservation to try it out. Hello there deliciousness. Ordered: - The Roti Prata: I don't know what they put inside of the batter but it's amazing. - Nasi Goreng (veggie): It seems so simple but the flavors are so wholesome. Absolutely recommend! - Sayur Lodeh: So satisfying and not too heavy. - Chardonnay, good amount and not insanely priced. Service was fast and friendly. We sat outside on the patio and while really relaxing it did get very warm. Might opt for air conditioning next time. The only thing I'm sad about is that I did not go here sooner. The missed opportunities! Oh well, guess I'll have to make up for it ;)
google avatar

Alpana A.

Yelp
Had lunch at Indo with some friends. The place was a bit hard to find due to the subtle signage--I had to circle twice to find it! On the plus side, it's in a quieter area with plenty of parking. The standout dishes were the chicken satay and salmon panang, both of which I'd order again. The veggie dishes, like sambal tofu, wok eggplant, and papaya salad, were underwhelming and a bit too sweet for my taste. But the desserts were great, especially the chocolate cake and a coconut-based special.
google avatar

Yelp
4 stars for the foods. 2 for the services. I dislike how the restaurant charge us for 18% of gratitude and there was only 2 of us and our server was barely there. Food taste okay, reminds me of farmhouse
google avatar

Amy M.

Yelp
Favorite restaurant in the Bay Area. Delicious food all around. Flavors are perfection and food is very elaborately made. The place has an upscale feel too which makes it perfect for date night or a business dinner but is also equally family friendly. Staff is always friendly. We have been eating here over the past 6 years (even through the pandemic where they did take out and the quality didn't suffer) and we plan on continuing to come back :)
google avatar

Yelp
Oh em gee! I was able to try two appetizers and two entrees. Everything was just so delicious and elegant. They take cooking seriously here. Chilean Sea Bass Papaya Mango Salad Roti Salmon Both fish were incredible. I can't believe how many ways they can do curry here but still have it be refreshing and not overpowering.
google avatar

Henry L.

Yelp
We came here for a work party and were not disappointed. The interior is warm, calming, with some SE Asian / Buddhist art for display. The bar in the front is an amazing place to lounge and hang out. Although we were served the food buffet style, I can pinpoint a few items that might interest you. the Poh Pia is amazing, and a great appetizer for your party. You get all the flavor and textures. For protein definitely go for the Bali Rib, beef curry, gulai prawns, and the yellow chicken curry. This should be a good variety that will give you a sense of what INDO has to offer. They also have drinks such as Thai Iced Tea which are quite good as well.
google avatar

Melinda K.

Yelp
Went there on a Saturday night with a reservation. We were seated right away and there were more tables available for a fancy Indonesian restaurant. It was lightly dim for a romantic vibe, but you can have an office or family party in there. They even have a nice patio where you can book a large party for special events or just reserve it regularly for two people. We ordered the Mie Goreng, Bali Ribs, Roti Prata, and Spicy Basil Chicken. The food presentation was nice with a contemporary flair. The Bali Ribs and the Roti Prata are the best ones- the Bali ribs had good flavor and the roti was flaky, not soggy when dipped with the sauce. Mie Goreng reminds me of Chow Mien with Pad Thai flavor, which was alright. What I didn't like was the spicy basil chicken- it tasted like KFC chicken with less spice and flavor. The service needs improvement in attentiveness. It took over 30 minutes to have one waiter come to our table to get a check, while other waiters were chit-chatting with the bartender or ignoring their jobs. There's no public parking garage near the restaurant, so had to park on the street or surrounding neighborhood.
google avatar

Yelp
The service was very professional and attentive. Great place to come for a date or cocktail
google avatar

Yelp
I only got one item from this place and it's the roti prata with green sauce. It tastes so so good. I highly recommend. Although the price is very high given the quantity, they should at least give you an extra serving of green sauce.
google avatar

Kenneth L.

Yelp
Indoor/ outdoor seating available, I made a reservation through OpenTable and was seated immediately. Food was pretty good, 8/10.
google avatar

Julie P.

Yelp
From my last great experience at this restaurant I decided to come back hoping to get the same items. They ran out of scallop. The ribs were very yummy and the fried rice was very good. The ribs were marinated just right and the rice smelled very good. They both were very tasty but a bit on the salty side. The pad Thai however was very dry and tasteless. After add some chili pepper sauce to it, it tasted a bit better. The roti was crispy and the sauce was yummy. This time was sat indoor. The decor is very nice but it's a bit loud. I think it is due to such a big open room without dividers.

Yelp
Located in Palo Alto, only two miles away from Stanford Campus. Highly recommend by friends. We were very happy we tried because the food was unique, innovative and delicious! The prices were a bit higher, the service was great and the atmosphere was pleasant. 3*Mango Lemonade: good, a bit sweet for me. 4*Black Pepper Mussels-salt-spring mussels with black pepper glaze: different than any mussels I have ever had. The black pepper sauce was too much at first, but quickly became addictive. Excellent if you like spicy food. 5*Roti Prata: crispy flatbread with yellow curry dip, a perfect combination. Must order bread for anyone. Soft and delicious! 3*Green Bean Sambal: Al dente blue lake beans with spicy sambal sauce, not that spicy. 4*Shrimp Pad Thai: traditional Thai noodle dish, big portions and good. 4.5*Pan Seared Sea-bass: Served with sautéed mushrooms, ginger, sweet onions bell peppers, longan, in rice wine sauce. Tender and crispy sea bass. Excellent! 5*Kueh Nagasari: like coconut rice pudding, we loved it. 3*Ginger Cake: per normal 5: Sesame Creme Brûlée: different and delicious!

Yelp
I came to check out this restaurant with a few friend on a Friday night. We made a reservation day of and saw the restaurant was only half full when we arrived for dinner around 7:30pm. The vibe is a bit more romantic and formal than I expected but we were happy to try a Southeast Asian restaurant in the Bay. We ordered a bunch of dishes to share family style. Some of the highlights were the Roti Prata (definitely get 1 to share between every 2 people), Bali Pork Ribs (delicious and super tender), and the Garlic Noodles / Mie Goreng (both noodles were great - we got the garlic noodles w/o protein). A couple of the other dishes were just ok including the Duck Kapitan, Seafood Green Curry, and Green Bean Sambal. The flavors were ok but some were too sour and for the price, the portions are pretty small. Overall, it's pretty pricey for what you get and rice is not included with the entrees and we added on a large rice which was close to $10 in of itself. This spot seems popular with larger groups but I'd say it's better to get your own dish rather than sharing since the portions are not easy to split.

Yelp
INDO Restaurant & Lounge is a delightful experience. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable, providing exceptional service. The ambiance is relaxed and comfortable, making it a perfect place for both casual and special occasions. The fusion southeastern Asian food is the star of the show, with authentic flavors that are both rich and balanced. Each dish is prepared with the utmost attention to detail, resulting in a culinary experience that's truly memorable. Whether you're a fan of Indonesian cuisine or looking to try something new, INDO Restaurant & Lounge comes highly recommended.

Yelp
Let's talk food: never a great sign when your food comes to the table not more than five minutes after you order (four dishes). Always a sign that most of the food is premade. Roti did not seem like it was made fresh, and neither did the papaya salad. Green curry and ribs had good flavor, but also had the feeling that they were reheated. Ribs shouldn't be cooked for so long that they have no bite to them. I also don't appreciate being charged 35 dollars for a curry that does not include a side of rice. We did let the manager know, and she was very kind to remove the salad from our bill, and gave us a dessert on the house! We are grateful to the restaurant for treating us well, but it's honestly unlikely we will return. For the price, we can find better and fresher food. P.S. Beautiful restaurant with outdoor seating.

Yelp
Lamb Satay and Chicken Satay were so yum!!! All the other food was also delicious, the staff were friendly, and the terrace seating was nice too.

Yelp
Came here on a Thursday night around 6:30 PM. My party of 3 walked in (no reservation) and we were seated immediately, so weekday nights might be good times to visit (not sure how crowded it is during the weekend). We saw online that there was a happy hour from 5-7 PM but upon looking at the menu, we didn't see this option. However, we asked a server and he told us that we had to sit at the bar/couch area, and he helped us move over so that we could enjoy it before it ended. During the happy hour, we ordered: Roti Prata (5/5): So so so good, especially for the $7 happy hour price! The roti is so easy to eat with some crisp to it, and the yellow curry it comes with is such a great dip. Tofu Goreng (3.5/5): The tofu is a little crispy, which adds a nice texture. There wasn't really anything wrong with this but it just didn't wow me. It was also $7. Pear and Ginger Mule (4.5/5): A solid classic mule with a lil twist to it with the pear. Always a safe choice to get a mule, and this did not disappoint. Passionfruit Caipirinha (5/5): Great cocktail with a spicy rim. It was my first time having a cocktail with cachaca (made from sugarcane juice), and I really enjoyed this one. For the main meal, I got the Mie Goreng (4/5). This was delicious! I wouldn't say it was spicy (it says it in the description) but it was tasty nonetheless. My one complaint is that I wish the shrimp didn't come with the tails on. Overall, I was very satisfied with my visit here! I think their happy hour is very well worth it, with the drinks and appetizers being $7.

Yelp
Food here is absolutely delicious. The Bali ribs are to die for, and the fried eggplant a perfect pairing. We order other items too and I don't think anything has disappointed us. The ambiance is really nice and staff extremely friendly and attentive. Come here for dates, group hangout, team dinners!!!!

Yelp
Omg this was so good. Everything I tried I love. I had the pad Thai and pork ribs and roti pratta appetizer and chicken satay. It was so good! All of it was so well seasoned. I hate eating pork but the pork ribs were delicious. The chicken satay was also very good. I definitely want to come back and try more items.

Yelp
Paid by card. INDO is located on the street and offers parking lot and after parking. I went here for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon and it wasn't that busy so we were able to be seated right away. They have indoor and outdoor seating and both offered a nice atmosphere. The host and servers were nice and checked on us often. We ordered the roti, eggplant, and black pepper prawns with garlic noodles. Everything was amazing! The portions looked small but they were filling. It was $7 for the roti, $16 for the eggplant, and $37 for the black pepper prawns with garlic noodles. I had a great experience and would go back again. I would definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
My sister and I go to this restaurant often for lunch. The food is really good, with good portions. It comes out quickly and the price is reasonable. The parking is easy because it has a good size parking in the back.

Yelp
Food: 3.5/5 Roti pratha - very good, would order again. Nice and buttery roti with yummy curry dip. Chicken satay - nice and moist chicken with yummy peanut sauce. Only complaint is that portion size is small for the price. Papaya beef curry - this was good. I've had better. This wasn't great (since I've had beef rendang that is much more flavorful and bigger portions for the same price) but it wasn't bad either. Again, portion size was small for the price. Beef could have been more tender and the curry more flavorful. Yellow chicken curry - this was eh. There was nothing inherently bad about this, but the flavor was kind of bland. Service: 3.5/5 Again, nothing inherently bad about the service. It's just that when there is a certain price point of restaurants I've been to, I do expect a certain level of attention from the service staff at a higher end place like this. Ambiance: 4/5 Overall very nice atmosphere. Overall: 3.5/5 It was a good place to have a date night. I've had better Indonesian food at cheaper prices, and I've had more attentive service at similar price points. It wasn't bad and I didn't have a bad experience, it's just that I think it's overpriced and there are better Indonesian food options out there.

Yelp
Stopped by on Thursday for a simple lunch. I was the only customer so needless to say - VIP treatment! I got to enjoy the beautiful patio all by myself and received all of the attention from the servers. There's a parking lot at the front of the restaurant which is a huge plus for the area. I ordered papaya salad which was refreshing but not too sweet. Tried their roti stuffed with minced beef which was crispy and filling. Also received a roti on the house. It was fluffy and crispy. Service was very quick and attentive. In addition, the restaurant seems to have won many rewards based on what's showing behind the window case. Definitely check out this place if you are in the Palo Alto area.

Yelp
My party of 3 came by on a Sunday evening and there were plenty available tables right away. We ordered the Bali ribs, roti prata, chicken satay, mie goreng, and pad Thai. Overall, everything was pretty good but I've had better at other spots. The Bali ribs were pretty great though, the meat slid right off the bone. The mie goreng tasted pretty basic and something you could quickly stir fry at home. Nothing in particular really wowed us. In my opinion, I think most mom and pop shops are able to do these dishes better with that extra flavor and love. Service was good though!
