Where to Eat in Golden Hill

"Influx’s Broadway location set the pace for Golden Hill’s renewal in the early aughts with its design-oriented digs. Today, you can still grab your locally roasted coffee or a fresh-made pastry anytime of day." - Mario A. Cortez

Essential Restaurants for Casual and Work Lunches in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"It may be a cafe (serving Cafe Moto beans), but Influx is also a magnet for the midday lunch set, especially at its airy Little Italy and North Park locations. On the food side, they specialize in both breakfast and lunch, with simple and well-assembled sandwiches, bagels, and salads. The feta sandwich tastes like a Greek-ish salad between bread, with hummus, feta cheese, sliced red onion, cucumber, tomato, and mixed greens. A few turkey, ham, and tofu varieties means various diets and cravings can get satisfied."

Google
Best bagel sandwich I’ve had in a long time. It’s been a while since I’ve been here, now I know why I visited frequently. The bagel scramble sandwich with the veggie patty, tomato and onions is incredible. $15 for this and a coffee. 👍🏾 The coffee is amazing and the smiles is why you keep going to the same place. I had a couple hours to spare, so I broke out my laptop, ate my sandwich, and will come back

Google
My wife and I stayed at an Airbnb on Broadway on a recent vacation, and found that this was the closest place to get coffee and breakfast. We ended up eating here three consecutive days. All of the bagel sandwiches were fantastic, and that is coming from a native New Yorker - I have a high bar for a good bagel! Highly highly recommend.

Google
Nice cafe in Golden Hill with a good looking food menu. I had a chai latte which hit the spot. Seating is good. I wouldn’t mind seeing some decor, mural, or other use for the very large blank wall on the west side of the store. I’d still return if I was in the area and wanted to get a quick cup of coffee on my way out of downtown.

Google
First time at Influx and I’m impressed. The turkey melt was legit—full of flavor—and the hammerhead coffee had that strong kick I needed. They open early too, which is a win for early birds. Solid first experience, I’ll definitely be coming back.

I love this Golden Hill gem so much. Fantastic iced coffee and super fresh bagels!! Fast service and great seats in the sunshine too 🥰✨☀️ thank you!

Google
Literally my favorite spot to come for months! Till this day, LADY WITH SHORT HAIR AND GLASSES I asked her for hot sauce and ignored me and by the door said “YOU CAN COME AND GET IT” in front of everybody such a horrible experience it sucks because coffee and food is actually really good but this is my last time here. We need to be kinder

Google
Great location in Golden Hill community. Nice homey comfortable ambiance. Great espresso. Amazing, welcoming and very friendly staff (that's even an understatement). Good place to get work done. Lighting is a little dull for reading in late evenings though, but very bright and nice during day time. Good soft background music/ songs. I recommend this place.

Google
The owner must’ve been having the worst day of her life when I showed up, because she decided to unleash her inner drill sergeant on an employee in front of the whole store. The crime? Adding cheese to a bagel. Like, my gal, it’s just cheese. CALM DOWN. I paid for it, all you had to do was melt it on there, not melt down in front of us! It was super unprofessional, awkward for the customers, and straight-up cringe for the employee who, let’s be honest, could’ve been spoken to like a human being instead of being yelled at like they committed a felony. A little kindness goes a long way!

Yelp
Great coffee and amazing food Turkey Melt Bagel: The turkey melt comes with melted cheese and this delicious pesto on a bagel. It was a nice savory choice for breakfast Feta 3: The focaccia bread in this is delicious!! And the feta with olive & tapenade made every bite come together. We really enjoyed this one Sweet coffee shop overall to enjoy some delicious breakfast & coffee in Golden Hill

Yelp
Stopped by this little gem since it's on my way to work. I was pleasantly surprised with the white chocolate mocha. I am usually hard to please with that one. I had one other the cheese danishes as well and it was fresh, light, crisp and sweet. Since then I have returned 3 more times and I have not been disappointed, the staff is nice and I definitely will be a regular. The menu is very intriguing and I am definitely interested in trying one of the many sandwiches. I've always been there when it's pretty empty but it has a good amount of seating and it feels like a cute local coffee shop, it's very chill.

Yelp
It's a nice cozy coffee shop in Little Italy. They serve coffee, salad, fruits, sandwiches, pastries, organic dishes and vegeterian food. They open @7:00 AM and close by 2:00 PM. It is pet friendly. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The employees were very nice and attentive. The service was outstanding We ordered: - Toasted everything Bagel  with cream  cheese       5/5 -Caramel latte  5/5 The caramel latte was very refreshing, perfect sweetness and had adequate amount of caramel. Their bagels were soft and chewy with generous amount of delicious cream cheese. So far, it was the Best Bagel I had ever tried in San Diego. We had extra Bagels for the following day, and they were very fresh and tasted the same as the day before. I will be back for sure to have more yummy bagels and try different drinks

Yelp
Had a great lunch date here mid week. Super cute shop in Golden Hill with lots of options for vegetarians! I went with the feta sandwich that comes with the veggie patty and it was delicious! Also got a kombucha to drink. Prices were pretty reasonable for a cutesy sandwich shop. A couple of tables/chairs inside and outside out front and along the side. We chose something a little more private on the side patio. You put your order in at the front counter and then get a number and they deliver to your table. Food came out pretty fast.

Yelp
My neighborhood coffee shop that I walk by constantly, but don't go into nearly enough. Coffee is good and reasonably priced, their chai latte is also very tasty. Plenty of seating, inside and out, and always has people working on computers, reading, on a work break or coffee date.... Also lots of free street parking (two spots in front have meters, just go on the side street). Don't sleep on the sandwiches!!! The Feta 3 is my favorite, but haven't ordered one yet that I wouldn't recommend or get for myself again. Pro tip - get it to go and eat at the park or zoo.

Yelp
Love the bagels here, super fresh and tasty, and it's hard to find a decent Vietnamese coffee which this plays pulls off SO well! Great service and staff , absolutely. Roomy seating, inside and outside available.

Yelp
This place is awesome. I got the bagel scramble with veggie patty, so delicious and bomb. The iced chai is my go to. This place is literally the best and I'm not even exaggerating!

Ethan K.

Yelp
Best coffee in SD, easily. Great bagels and sandwiches, try : PBA or turkey pesto sandwich.

Yelp
Service is quick and no nonsense. The Fanta is $4.50. The coffee was okay, could have tasted better. Tried to order the most common items so my son could eat something familiar. The gluten free 1 is $6.95 and for 3 pieces of bacon it's $2.50 more. My son did not like it lol, but he tanked his soda and had some bites of the brownie which was $5.95! Almost as much as the meal itself. There are a good amount of tables inside and out. We chose to sit outside because it was getting loud and echoey inside. This place seems to be a fixture in the community because the older woman at the register who took my order spoke to another woman seated near the front entrance and told her to pull her car forward to get into an actual parking space. Clearly there are regulars who come in and spend their mornings here. If you're on the go and need something fast this is the place to be. Otherwise, I'd advise people to just make your own food at home.

Yelp
Service was a bit slow for a Tuesday morning and the drinks/food were alright. I was really excited for this place because of its bagel/sandwich options. They have a lot of vegan/vegetarian options in addition to the classics. I got the tuna melt bagel which was an open-faced sandwich. It was piping hot and the bagel itself was really nicely toasted. There was not a lot of tuna on the bagel and the flavor was a little bland. Also, I'm not sure why but the bagel was really greasy and the bottom of my plate was drenched with grease. The drink I got was a vanilla latte and I don't have much to say about it other than when I had initially gotten it it was lukewarm. For the amount of time it took to get our food (maybe 15 minutes when it was not too busy. Could have been an issue of staffing though because I only saw maybe 2 workers) and not many good things to say about it, I do not think it was worth it. Again, it was not horrible, but not impressive either.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try Influx for years, ever since I was a student at City College. I was always running late, so I never had the chance to stop in. But finally, today I made it! I ordered a Dirty Chai and Oatmeal, and I was not disappointed. The chai was flavorful and oatmeal was perfectly cooked. The dining room is spacious and the music is calm, making it a great place to study or work. I can see why this place is always busy. The only downside is the parking. It can be a bit of a hassle, but it's not the worst I've seen in downtown San Diego. Overall, I had a great experience at Influx and I would definitely recommend it to others. Here are some pros and cons of Influx Coffee House: Pros: * Delicious coffee and food * Spacious and comfortable dining room * Calm and relaxing atmosphere * Perfect for studying or working Cons: * Parking can be a hassle Overall, I would give Influx Coffee House a 4 out of 5 stars. It's a great place to get some work done or enjoy a cup of coffee with friends.

Yelp
This place was good but really packed for a Friday morning! Food was good. Everything bagel is very good. Cute little spot!

Yelp
This is a neighborhood joint I always pass so wanted to check it out. I unfortunately have to mimic all the other reviews: the customer service here really sucked. Like no energy, annoyed we were there, inconvenienced. Not at all what you want for your morning coffee place. With that said, the drinks and the food were good. We had an everything bagel with cream cheese. The bagel felt a bit small but it was still yummy. Dirty chai: leaned more on the tea side. Not my favorite but still good. Blended 3 (Madagascar vanilla and caramel): this was the yummier of the two. Frothy and sweet. For those worried about covid they still social distance when you order with a table between you and the cashier. Seating wise they have options inside but we opted for the outside. Parking wise: street parking and a few metered in front. A lot of people put their hazards on parked illegally and jumped out to grab a quick coffee which was amusing. All in all I'm not going out of my way to go here but if I'm in the neighborhood I'd swing by. I just won't expect a friendly face when I go.

Yelp
Long overdue review. It's a super chill shop right by Golden Hill. The staff is also friendly during service, and there's space inside or outside to relax on. My go to is turkey number 2 (with focaccia) and a chai latte. Sandwich is just perfection, it's a simple and self explanatory sandwich but the way they put it together using their ingredients just brings something magical to it. Very sad they no longer have their chocolate croissant it was my favorite of all times.
google avatar

Kenia S.

Yelp
The coffee and bagels were delicious. Highly recommend! It's a dog friendly coffee spot and I loved seeing everyone's dogs! They give the dogs treats too! It's so cute inside and clean! The staff was nice!

Arianna K.

Yelp
This place was so good. The focaccia bread was very tasty and went really well with all the sandwiches!
google avatar

Erin B.

Yelp
Influx has the ABSOLUTE BEST scones I have ever tasted. And they have unique flavors every day - which is perfection. The banana nut is my favorite but they are all delicious. Highly recommend visiting this adorable shop when you're in San Diego. Plus! Their coffee and other food options are also .

Paul C.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I stopped by on a Tuesday afternoon, this instantly became one of our new favorite spots in SD. I can't wait to come back, their coffee and sandwiches are incredible.
google avatar

Jade D.

Yelp
The tofu 1 sandwich with focaccia bread was amazing and the service was fast. There was also plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating. Would come here again!
google avatar

Joel S.

Yelp
First of all, the service was quite friendly. Lots of positive energy coming from the girl at the counter. Lots of open room and seating. I was here around 7:45am and there were no lines and the place was pretty empty and yet parking was still a challenge. I am a coffee purist, so I ordered a cappuccino with whole milk. They only serve in paper cups, which means you just can't get the true espresso/cappuccino experience. The espresso was mediocre and the coffee foaming was a travesty. Looked like it came out of a vending machine. Here's the thing. If you do not mind paper cups and you just want a sugary coffee drink and some snacks, this may be your place. Seriously. Im not judging that market. And it is obviously the market they are trying to capture here. As baristas go, it cannot compete with many much better places in the immediate area. Blue Bottle, Lofty, Darkhorse, and Achilles, just to name a few....soooo much better for the same price.

Ercan D.

Yelp
They should learn to smile. This is not a customer service . Good luck with their business
google avatar

Brenda V.

Yelp
There's a table between the cashier and where you order so when they speak really low and there's music and people talking you have no idea what they're say. The food is good and the drinks are good as well. The parking is also decent!
google avatar

Joseph W.

Yelp
I've been coming to this coffee shop for years and it continues to deliver a consistently great product. The staff who work here are genuinely kind and a sense of excitement to be there. You'll frequently be greeted by the neighborhood dogs of all shapes, sizes and personalities - which merely adds to the wholesome experience. All in all, the coffee is great. The staff is friendly. Seating is abundant. Parking is easy & simple.

Yelp
craving a bagel & coffee which influx had good reviews for! Spicy vegan bagel was good, on an everything bagel. We also ordered coffee, I had the iced vanilla latte however they seemed to forget the vanilla syrup. It was busy so I just added stevia and the latte itself was still good. It's a spacious coffee shop with large tables, great setting to come work or get some studying done.
google avatar

Lydia G.

Yelp
Just tried for the first time today and I'm obsessed. There are so many food options and it's definitely worth the price that they list. Super friendly workers and it's a great place to sit down and relax or do some work!
google avatar

Yelp
I used to frequent Influx when I used to live in Golden Hill around 2015-2016. I hadn't been back until today and while a couple menu items and prices have changed the same vibe of this place remains! Great service and kind baristas, tasty sandwiches and pastries. I will have to visit more often and bring some homies too!
google avatar

Kristin Leigh M.

Yelp
What a fantastic tea latte! I found Influx on Yelp when I was in search of a morning tea. Upon looking at their website and their reviews, I realized they had loose leaf tea. Score! Just the right amount of steamed milk, and a very delicious tea. I appreciate, too, that they are still taking COVID-19 seriously. The table where you pay is separated back from the counter, and the staff are still wearing masks. When I have more time, I would definitely like to try some of their food. 2021: 8/100
google avatar

Roberto S.

Yelp
That influx currently has a 4.0 average on yelp is a travesty-- this is a 5-star cafe with 5-star service. Dog friendly and tucked into a nice neighborhood right across the 5 from downtown, I think it's more than competitive with other DT coffee shops, with generally lower prices. I love the bagel breakfast sandwich which is customizable (tomato, onion, and bacon options), the dog-loving staff who have taught my corgi how to catch treats, and the phenomenal coffee (lavender lattes year 'round!). Highly recommend.

Yelp
Visiting my daughter her in San Diego and this is one of her fav spots for coffee, and she was excited to share the place with me. Not a terribly friendly vibe upon ordering, not rude, just sort of neutral, but compared to other spots I've been too since, just not feeling it. I ordered up my now standard iced oat milk latte with a raw sugar, and then selected one of the muffins in the case, pumpkin something or other. Drinks took a bit of time considering there was no one else in line, but they did arrive and the flavor was fine. Oat milk was creamy and good amount of ice, the espresso flavor not overpowering. The muffin was pretty nondescript, but tasty. There was a generous amount of seating inside, however we chose to sit outside with my daughter and son and enjoyed a bright sunny day in San Diego.
google avatar

Raven S.

Yelp
Phenomenal! New to the Golden Hill area and this place has not only amazing coffee, but DELICIOUS FOOD!! You on your way downtown or to balboa park? Make a stop here, you won't regret it! Service is great, wait time is short and the area is beautiful. Outdoor seating and a designated pick area too for online orders. I ordered their turkey melt on an everything bagel and OH MY GOODNESS!! heaven.... Iced white mocha to pair it and my heart was sold.
google avatar

Auday S.

Yelp
Great taste, and very good menu selection, I came for breakfast and it was delicious. If you come near-by you have to try it. Timings 6AM - 2PM

Yelp
When visiting San Diego we stayed down the street from this cute little cafe for a couple nights of our trip. The first morning Influx seemed like a quick, close, and easy option with a tasty menu so we popped in for coffee and a breakfast sandwich. The bagels were sold out that day so we got croissant sandwiches instead. They were so tasty but left us wondering how good the bagels must be to be sold out so early in the morning! Long story short we came here every morning for breakfast. The entire menu is delicious and you won't be disappointed no matter what you order! The staff is super friendly and delivers your order to your table. Service is quick and even though there is a steady flow of traffic in and our you should have trouble finding a seat. Some tables are large and the other guests all seemed happy to welcome others to join their table. If you're in the area Influx is a must!
google avatar

Veronica F.

Yelp
This was my neighborhood coffee spot for 12 years when I lived across the street. Fast forward a year and a half and boy it's changed. First off the two girls working A were not friendly and B didn't get my order right. The girl with thick eyeliner was extremely rude and acted entitled. It wasn't busy. They were chit chatting about boys and not minding the customer. I repeated several times "lite half and half." Does this look like lite??!! Waste of time and money and I came a long way for it. Influx you need to retrain your employees.
google avatar

Matt M.

Yelp
I used to really like this place, but service here is consistently unfriendly and priced way higher than better coffee shops in the area. Today put me over the top when I was charged .75 for a splash of oat milk in my 16 oz cold brew -- for a total of $6.25! Figuring it must be a mistake (upcharges are standard in milk based drinks, but not as creamer), I asked about it - the young woman scowled at me, clearly annoyed, and told me she had "put a good amount in there." Yikes.
google avatar

Jaclyn M.

Yelp
This place is so cute and has so many vegan options!! I got the spicy vegan bagel which had spicy hummus, cucumbers, onions: and tomatoes, I added capers which was the right choice!!! I got it on a roasted very thing bagel - their bagels are so fresh !! I loved this place for a weekend breakfast :)
google avatar

Catherine S.

Yelp
I never knew there was also an Influx location in Golden Hills until last week. The interior is sort of similar to the one in North Park however it is a bit older and mustier but more open. Parking here is super simple during the weekday since all the residents of this area have driven there cars away to work and there's barely any time restraints on the parking here - perfect for studying the whole day! In addition to having coffee and tea, they also have snacks which make it an even better study spot. They have bagels and sandwiches. I got an everything bagel with cream cheese and I like how they toasted it and spread the cream cheese for me instead of making me spread it myself. They also have accessible outlets for your laptop which is great.

Natalie S.

Yelp
I love this spot so much! Quirky menu items and the best sandwiches!! They make orders quickly and have such a great neighborhood vibe. The friendliest staff and such amazing service. They always make me feel welcomed and never rushed :}
google avatar

Chrissy C.

Yelp
Influx makes a great iced caramel latte. Their apple bagel is delicious. Cute dogs are always on the patio. Five stars for me.

Chelsea P.

Yelp
I'm here a few times a week with my dog and we love it. The staff is always so friendly and the drinks are made to perfection every time! My pup also loves the treats they give her.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
This was my first time in & we were welcomed by their friendly staff. We ordered blended drinks 2&3 and they were both delicious! The whipped cream they make to top off the blended drinks with is super creamy. We will definitely come back to try their breakfast and get more coffee!
google avatar

Yelp
My friend recently moved to Golden Hill and while scoping out some new places, we found this on Yelp. Thankfully it was open on Labor Day. I love the layout of this restaurant/cafe. Row of tables on one side, a big retro couch on the other to give it a spacious, home-y feel and look. My friend and I both got The Traditional which is smoked salmon on a bagel with cream cheese, red onion, tomatoes, and capers. We both thought it could use some more red onion but we were both surprised by how we liked the tomatoes even though we generally don't like tomatoes. It also comes with a slice of orange which was a nice, sweet way to end the meal. We also got sandwiches to-go for dinner since we were on tight schedule. I got the Mozz 2 which had olives, mozzarella cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, and balsamic vinaigrette on focaccia bread. I'm not a big fan of olives or focaccia bread so I was not a fan of the sandwich (completely my fault for choosing this sandwich over everything else, I was blind-sided by the cheese). We also got iced coffee and iced vietnamese coffee which were both solid. Woke us right up! I would definitely come back next time I visit. There's also a small outdoor seating area- perfect for bringing puppies/furry friends!

Yelp
Stopped by during our stay on Little Italy. The staff was kind and I really liked their coffee. The veggie bagel hit the spot as well. Thank you!
google avatar

Angelina M.

Yelp
Delicious! Almost everything here is great! The blended 3 is my jam!!! I come here for that drink no matter how many times I have ordered it, will keep on ordering it because it's just THAT GOOD! Great service, amazingly delicious focaccia bread! This is a gem .
google avatar

Lori W.

Yelp
Ice tea is amazing. So fresh. Coffee is Cafe Motto (local roaster) and is FANTASTIC! I always get the goat cheese salad. Perfect light lunch with slices of their homemade focaccia bread. I look forward to it. So good.

Yelp
This was an unplanned stop; we were in the neighborhood on a Saturday morning, and finding we had about 30 minutes till our appointment, we wandered into Influx. They were busy, and most of the tables were taken. We walked in thinking we'd just get a couple coffees, but decided at the register that we wanted to split a bagel with peanut butter, too. The guy working the register was kind of distracted - he kept turning around to talk to the girl behind him, and chatting with a customer waiting off to the side. We had to repeat our order a few times in order for it to stick. The drinks we ordered - their take on a Vietnamese Coffee - were just okay. I got mine iced, the hubs got the hot version. My drink was way too sweet to drink right away; I had to let the ice melt a bit to mellow it out a bit. My husband liked his version a bit better, but he wasn't able to drink it right away either - because it was too hot to consume right away. The bagel was fine - I mean, you can't really mess up a plain bagel, toasted, with peanut butter. We were able to squeeze into a table near the window, between a guy working on a laptop and a large group of people with a dog. (The dog was super sweet, which we quickly found out due to the distracted human attached to the other end of the leash.) It was a meh experience, but it did help us while away the half hour before heading out to our first appointment. I just know we wouldn't go out of our way to go back in the future.

Yelp
We were concerned about this place with covid. But I am so happy the place continue operating and loyal customers like us continue comming. I am a Mexican and I can tell you, for me Influx Mexican Moka is the best from all San Diego and Tijuana region. And as always, all coffee and food it is just awesome all times served by gentil, friendly and kind personnel.
google avatar

Jin P.

Yelp
Went there around 0700, not too busy. Very relaxed atmosphere with good background music that wasn't too loud. Service was great and the food and coffee was decent. Parking isn't too bad early in the morning but it is street parking so I imagine it will get full during the day. If you're in the area looking for a quick bite or a good cup of joe, would recommend.
google avatar

Marco A.

Yelp
First time stopping in and I may add to the review when I order some food and stay a bit longer. But popped in just to check it out as another coffee shop to hang out in. Came by because I usually go to Dark Horse up the street and saw this place. It has a very open layout, pretty relaxed setting, comfortable seating, and a very quiet street and neighborhood. Not a lot of foot traffic. I count about 12 spots to sit and work - about 30 seats altogether if the place was full (not counting a few more outside) Normal pricing for a more "hipster" coffee place in SD. Looks like it has a good selection of sandwiches and pastries too. Will try next time!
google avatar

Sierra A.

Yelp
Absolutely in love with this place! Have been to the Golden Hill and now the Little Italy locations! The Chai Tea latte is unbeatable and better than the chain cafes! TRUST ME! Real CHAI!
google avatar

Mike L.

Yelp
Great tasting coffee and drinks, wonderful food and always pleasant folks to deal with. The Traditional, lox and bagels, is my favorite.
