We are long-term B & B travelers and understand that location can be key to a good experience. This B & B is located right in the middle of the Church Hill neighborhood just east of downtown Richmond. It's part of a series of row houses, and the only parking is on the street. However, we had no trouble finding a spot right near the B & B. There is a small pub right next door, but we had no noise from it in our room. This is a neighborhood of historic homes and churches. Grace Street which runs parallel to Church Street makes for a lovely walk. There are several good restaurants within walking distance----we went to Roosevelt, a farm-to-table bistro about five blocks away, and it was excellent.||||The innkeeper gave us a good orientation to the inn and our room. The inn itself shows some age inside, but our William Byrd's Nest was reasonably comfortable. Note that this is a loft style room on the third floor and the steps up to it are steep. Our room had a comfortable bed and small flat screen TV, but was lacking in some comforts----there was no closet to hang your clothes and no chair except for a small desk chair. The lack of a closet was puzzling, as the room was pretty large and it would not seem difficult to build in a closet. The small bathroom had one major issue----the shower is built into an angular space, and the curtain does not fully cover it, so water ran out on the floor. Also, the tile work was chipped and marred. Some of these issues are just part of staying in an historic property, but we would suggest a different room. ||||Breakfast was served buffet style, and was fine, albeit more like a continental breakfast with one hot item. I believe the breakfast on weekend mornings might be more substantive. We understand that some sacrifices have to be made when staying in such an historic inn, so these issues weren't that significant for us. The price was reasonable and being in the neighborhood is a real plus.
