Inn at the Gorge

I had a wonderful stay at this bed & breakfast! The house has so much charm and character, while still feeling clean and comfortable. My room was cozy and well-appointed, with thoughtful touches that made it feel like home. The staff was warm, welcoming, and went out of their way to make sure I had everything I needed throughout my stay. The grounds were beautiful and gave such a peaceful atmosphere, it really felt like a relaxing retreat. I also appreciated how conveniently located it was, just a short walk or drive to everything in town, but still quiet enough to unwind. Overall, I felt the value was excellent and the experience far more personal and memorable than staying in a chain hotel. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone visiting the area, and I look forward to staying here again!

We stayed in the Gorge Room at this boutique bed and breakfast, and it was exactly what we were looking for, laid-back, stylish, and fun. The room itself is bright and airy, with beautiful natural light throughout the day, but still has blackout curtains so you can sleep in comfortably. The Murphy bed was surprisingly comfortable and gave us plenty of space when folded up, which made the room feel bigger. Even though the bathroom is located down the hall, it’s private, and it never felt inconvenient. Overall, the Gorge Room is a fantastic option if you’re looking for an affordable but still stylish place to stay. I’d definitely book it again.

Hidden charges and a creepy owner. We stayed in the terrace room which appears to have its own private patio - so we kept the drapes open for light. At like 9AM my partner had gone out for coffee. The owner came into the private patio and knocked repeatedly on our patio door, upsetting our two dogs. I was not decent and thus was trapped in the bathroom until he went away. He later texted that he wanted to give our dogs treats?? I have a feeling he wanted to catch my partner and me having sex, just completely inappropriate behavior. Later we were charged much more than we bargained for, who charges $100 per dog? We are frequent travelers and have never been charged anything like that. Stay here at your own risk.

Supposed to be a nice getaway, bathroom was disgusting! The shower was loaded with black stuff that they insisted isn’t mold, hmmm. Not clean by any stretch. The shower head was moldy as was the sink faucet where clearly no one has cleaned. Mold on shower ceiling, baseboards were also dirty. Newspaper in bathroom was from July of 2025, really? We were in the Secret Room, should have kept it a better secret. We paid over $300/night. This was supposedly an upgraded room. That room shouldn’t be more than $100/night. The only plus was the young man who is in residence. Saw him at breakfast only. As far as self checking, it would be helpful if the number pad was lit up! Can’t add photos because I don’t have them through Google. But they are bad showing everything I’ve described.

TL;DR - great space to rent for a large party, but very old and minimal amenities/service. My friends and I recently stayed at the Inn at the Gorge, renting 4 separate rooms. Overall, we had a great stay for the following reasons, but also had some concerns with the overall management of the property. Pros: - The first night at the property only had members of our group and we took over the communal spaces for card games and late night chats. Perfect place for large groups to rent separate rooms. - My husband and I stayed in the Secret Room. The room was large, comfortable and clean. - The Inn's location is perfect! Close to downtown Hood River, but far enough away that it was quiet. - The old home has a fabulous porch with a swing and many comfortable seating areas. Cons: - Breakfast was served to us 1.5 hours after we ordered it. Unfortunately, the management only had ONE employee cooking and cleaning for a FULLY booked hotel. Not the employee's fault, this is a complaint on how the property is managed. There should have been clear communication on how long breakfast would take as we had to change plans while waiting for the breakfast we heard good things about. - The house is old. With that comes old plumbing (shower goes cold when anyone in the house flushes a toilet) and other things you can probably imagine. - There are no employees at the Inn other than during breakfast. We needed extra towels and had to wait until an employee could be deployed to the house. If you are renting this expecting normal hotel amenities and services, be warned. - The hot tub was not functioning during our stay. Most reviews say that. Do with that information as you wish.

Where to begin? We paid $350 per night for three nights for a very shabby experience. As we left, we made acquaintance with another couple who related an equally bad experience, maybe made worse by them spotting mice in their room. ||For reference, we had the Terrace Room, a room at the back of the house that looked like a porch that had been converted into a room. ||GOOD||It is a lovely, large historic house in a nice neighborhood location.||Our room was clean.||There is ample parking on the property.||The bed was large and very good.||NOT GOOD ||No one to greet us – all “self check-in.” The place is apparently run remotely and we were on our own for three days. We did find some sort of maintenance person named Michael who helped us get into our room when we first got there because the keypad lock was mightily confusing and the remote innkeeper had given us the wrong combination. ||When we finally got in the room, we learned from a printed piece of paper left under the TV remote that there would be no breakfast served even though we paid for it. We ate downtown at Betty’s Place (a very good, 50-year old breakfast restaurant) but a simple adult breakfast cost us $36. We lodged a complaint and our remote innkeeper (never knew its/their name) reimbursed us $25 per day.||The room is at the back of the house and opens up onto the garden which is not private. For privacy, the room essentially has no windows, and what windows it has have floor to ceiling dark curtains which even cover the entrance door (you have to pull the heavy curtains aside to get out the door – never seen anything like this before). When closed up for privacy, the room has something of a cave-like feel to it. ||Very oddly, there was no handle, latch or lock on the bathroom door – an 100-year old farmhouse door with its hardware removed. It would not close all the way. ||There was no hand soap in the room. We asked for some and received a couple of tiny bars.||Its coffee maker was the old style, difficult to use and was set up to brew a whole pot of coffee, not individual cups. ||Using the shower handle was a bizarre experience. It had no rhyme or reason and twisting it around to find a good temperature was a fickle game of chance that took a couple of minutes of fiddling with it. The realm of comfort – not too hot or too cold – was about 1/8 of an inch difference on the handle to find “just right.”||We would describe the décor of this room in this lovely, historic house as having all sorts of styles from colonial revival to Moderne to farmhouse to neo-industrial, all lacking any sense of warmth or charm. As to furnishings, it was also an eclectic mix of styles and vintages with a definite sense of “yard sale” about it. ||There was really no place to put our luggage so it ended up on the floor.||Someone had adjusted the little refrigerator to max cold and a glass of water froze solid in it overnight.||Don’t know what standard practice is these days, but there was no turndown service like we would hope for in a room costing us $350 night. We were definitely on our own. ||There was no bedside lamp on one side of the bed, so it was either dark or it was necessary to leave the lights on in the entire room to read by. ||There were few electric plugs and the ones available were not always in handy locations. ||We did not use the advertised hot tub, but it had a ragged, worn paper sign on it that it was undergoing cleaning and maintenance. It was covered in dead leaves and looks like it had not been touched in months. ||The landscaping is becoming threadbare with several dead shrubs and little sign of careful maintenance. ||In sum, it appears that the business may be the just the embers of an old-time classy bed and breakfast that has hit the skids and is run remotely by an investor (or other distant entity). From our point of view, it was nothing at all like the experience depicted on their alluring website, and is such a shoddy experience that it kind of spoiled our opinion of Hood River.||On this Tripadvisor site, you will note many negative comments about the Inn at the Gorge from other folks who stayed there, especially within the past couple of years. Based on our experience, believe them all.

My husband and I stayed at the Inn on our wedding night last weekend and were quite unimpressed with our room and lack of service. The room was dirty, bathtub tiny and the plastic shower curtains were hanging way down into the tub floor making it extremely dangerous to get in and out (not to mention unsanitary). The “warm breakfast” that was advertised on the website was a tray of store bought muffins and bananas left out in the lobby. We saw no staff on location the entire time we were there, and there was junk left out in the middle of the hallway on our floor. Definitely not accurately advertised on their website.

Like previous review I just read, this Inn is not at all as advertised. A bed and breakfast without breakfast is, well, just a bed. breakfast service is currently cancelled. And they don’t tell you about it in advance. They certainly could have. We got $100 credit for the 2 of us for that would have been 4 breakfasts. Not enough compensation, albeit they didn’t even give us a choice. Somehow pastries and fruit put out at 8 or after was supposed to make up for it. And while it’s a historic house, it’s a bit grungy around the edges. Every morning in the shower I looked up rinsing my hair to a bathroom fan filled with dust - lint. Couch sank down when we sat on it and was uncomfortable. The fully stocked kitchen had no pots and pans, 1 plate, 3 bowls etc. my whole reason for getting a kitchen is to take simple meals in, and it was exceedingly hard to do that here. Outdoor furniture is getting worn, grounds upkeep needs work - dead plants right at the entry. Hot yup is out of service. There were no staff to be seen the whole time we were there. This place doesn’t deserve the 4.5 star reviews it has on google and doesn’t align with their website at all. You can find better options I’m sure

This Inn is really not a "Bed & Breakfast" and it is in need of repair and maintenance. The website talks about a breakfast, but it's really just some danish and "whole fruit" like apples. Etc. Fortunately they provided an in room coffee maker and coffee with filters. The room (The Gorge Room) was ok, and had a Murphy bed (as advertised), but it sure felt like a full not a queen size. Very small. Also, again as advertised, the bathroom for this room is down the hall. This wasn't a problem and we expected it (again, as advertised). However, upon getting into the shower, both the diverter handle and water pressure/temp handle came right off! Fortunately, I was able to get both back into the slots internally and take showers, but that should definitely be fixed/replaced. Overall this is a very old property with lots of charming design and decor. Just be aware that this may come with challenges, and older reviews make it sound better than it is. It certainly isn't living up to its older reputation. It is also largely an unstaffed property. I did see a lady working in back and spoke to her briefly, but other than that, no one.

This was a cute enough spot, a little bit of a walk from downtown. I booked this room without the breakfast option, as I have dietary restrictions I didn't want to worry about accommodating. I overheard other guests saying that breakfast was no longer provided, even though it is advertised as a b&b. This didn't affect me personally, but I did find that to be misleading. There were signs saying that beer and wine were available if the innkeeper was in, but we were around most of the evening and didn't see any offerings. Additionally, the hot tub was closed. Check-in was relatively easy, the room was as presented. The porch was nice to relax on. Not a bad stay, just feel that it could have been more personalized and up to the description.

WARNING: This is no longer a true bed and breakfast. The property has changed ownership, but none of that was made clear when we booked. We chose this place specifically for the B&B experience and all the great reviews about breakfast. On the morning of our arrival, we got a message telling us what time breakfast would be served. Later, after check-in a second message arrived explaining that under the new ownership, breakfast was no longer offered--but there would be "fresh pastries in the lobby." What we actually found? A single danish cut into tiny pieces, a pot of coffee, and a bowl of apples. That's it. Calling that "breakfast" feels like a joke. The hot tub is also closed, even though older reviews still mention it. Again, not disclosed anywhere on the listing. I emailed after our stay--politely--requesting a partial refund since we didn't get what we paid for. No one responded. Not even an acknowledgment. The only good thing I can say is that it's in a quiet neighborhood and within walking distance to some good restaurants. But I absolutely would not stay here again, and I feel misled and ignored. This is not the experience we were promised.

We chose this B&B based on the reviews and the photos. We were traveling to Hood River for our 20th anniversary and wanted a memorable, personalized experience. PROS: Cute house, nice room, easy/free parking, not too far from downtown, easy check-in and access to the house. CONS: Service and staffing. Spouse had paid for a special package - flowers delivered to room with his message on a card, champagne, and a massage. He really wanted to have a lovely surprise waiting for us. He emailed the owner in advance to confirm the order (payment already made) never heard back. After a long day of travel, he expected that we would walk into the room and be greeted with the flowers, card, champagne.... nothing was there. At breakfast the next morning, the owner was there and asked us where we were staying. We asked about the package that was supposed to be a surprise and got "sorry that happened." And then we were told "as much as I'd love to sell you some flowers, that's not going to happen." That was of course very weird because 1) he should've tried to make it right and 2) there's a flower shop within walking distance of the Inn and 3) also we had already paid for the flowers! There was no sense of making things right or caring about us celebrating a special occasion or having ruined a special surprise. That is ultimately what disappointed us about our stay there. We could've stayed at any of the local hotels if we just wanted a cute room. Don't expect the owner to remember a single thing about you - he asked us at every meal what room we were staying in (it's only a few rooms!). He won't know your names or ask if you are celebrating something. Fine - It's not that kind of personalized experience that we *thought* we'd get at a very small B&B. The website shows a lot of food options. We were promptly told "we're not doing the full menu thing" and it's a you-get-what-you-get breakfast and if you don't want that, they will give you a parfait. The food was fine for me, but not for my spouse who ended up just with the parfait every day. They are understaffed and I'm sure that makes everything a challenge. I can sympathize, it just would've been nice to know what that the image on the website is not what you're getting. For this special of an occasion, we would've stayed somewhere else had we known (it was still pretty expensive the weekend we stayed). I know it was hugely disappointing to not have the romantic surprise remembered - I can only imagine how much worse that would have been if it had been someone planning a wedding proposal or something. We lived, but it was a major bummer for my spouse who really wanted to do something thoughtful. There is no housekeeping or turn-down service. We stayed 4 days. Hood River is lovely and charming. We've been here 4 different times. We love the town and we will be back. We are unlikely to stay here again, but hopefully will more staffing, it can return to the level it was with all the other very positive reviews. The Inn is a really cute house and we did enjoy the room. If you are planning a special occasion trip in the near future, I'd think twice on this one due to the lack of attentino to detail. If you're just passing through, I think it would be just fine and you'll probably have a nice stay.

The Inn at the Gorge is excellent. We stayed in the Cascade room suite. Plenty of room. Sleeps 4 adults. The morning breakfast was prepared fresh. Well worth it! Hot tub outside. Booking was easy. Room was very clean and we were able to check in early. I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed two nights in connection with the Hood River Marathon. This is a great little bed and breakfast. The proprietor and staff were warm, friendly, and helpful. They recommended excursions, cooked our breakfast to order, and lent us guide books. We stayed at the Terrace Room, which opens directly to the back patio. It was clean and well put together. The small parking lot was adequate for the number of guest rooms.

I stayed two nights in the 'Terrace Room' and really enjoyed my stay! Comfortable bed, small fridge in the room, robe to wear, and best of all- jacuzzi bathtub in my private bathroom!! The host, Michael, was kind and accommodating, the breakfast was tasty, and the location was a quick walk to the Main Street in Hood River with tons of places to eat, shop and drink. I would highly recommend staying here!

We stayed two nights at this lovely Bed and Breakfast, and loved our stay. We stayed in the Terrace Room with a king size bed and a wonderful bathroom with a rain showerhead in the shower. The bed was so comfortable, and we had a private patio so we were able to leave the windows open all night! The breakfast for both of our mornings was so delicious. It consisted of a breakfast burrito, toast and fruit and granola yogurt! Soooo good! The staff is so friendly and in these Covid times, we communicated by text, and they were so quick to respond to our questions about the TV, and then to ask us what time we wanted breakfast the next morning! Both my husband and I plan to make this a regular stop for our quick get - awayt o Hood River!

We stayed two nights in the Cascade Suite and it was perfect! The bed was ooh lala comfortable and loved having a separate sitting area. We walked from the Inn into downtown, perused the shops and galleries and found some excellent dining at Three Rivers Grill and Sixth Street Bistro. Broder Ost, located in the very cool and historic Hood River Hotel, is an especially excellent and stylish choice for breakfast. Enjoyed meeting the friendly current Inn owner. Hood River is a nice little getaway or home base for windsurfing or hiking in the gorge.

We stayed two nights in the secret room and really enjoyed our time. The contactless check-in and plenty of outdoor space including a nice hot tub made for a safe getaway during Covid times. The staff was always a call or text away if we had questions.

Stayed here in October and it was a picture perfect fall visit. This B&B was beautifully decorated and very well maintained. A fabulous porch to hang out on or have breakfast in the morning. The staff was all very professional and went out of their way to accommodate the guests. The beds and linens were so very soft and comfortable. Lovely soaps in the room and fabulous Hood River coffee. The morning breakfasts were beautifully presented with such a wonderful variety of foods and flavors. They really go all out with the included breakfast! The owner popped in to say hello and offered some great ideas for local hikes. We highly recommend staying here on your next visit to Hood River!

What a lovely little gem of a place to spend some time! (I only wish we'd spent more nights - now we'll have to go back!) Hood River is such a cute little place to visit and to get away from Portland - and it's so super convenient. We recently ventured out for a birthday getaway - and had a night booked in the large Terrace Room here at the B&B. The house is lovely, and neighborhood kitties were sleeping on the porch (though the innkeepers do not feed them). Bowl of Jelly Belly jelly beans in the dining room. The house is warm, cozy, and quiet. On our bed were two little hedgehogs waiting to say hello (ceramic, fyi). PLENTY of hot water to fill the big tub, and even shower off after. Great DVD selection upstairs so you can snuggle in the super-comfy bed and watch an old favorite (Indiana Jones trilogy? Yes, please!) Breakfast was a delight - the other guests were fun and we all talked about our rooms and the critters on the beds when we arrived. Our breakfast began with juice, coffee, tea - and then we plunged right in to incredibly amazing baked pears with walnuts. YUM. We had fruit, mini quiches - everything was outstanding. The Inn is nicely located on a quiet street - and we very easily walked into town and visited shops and had a nice dinner out. The house dog will give a bark at you, then stand there and get his pets, then go on his way (my dogs could never live at a B&B - they'd crawl into people's bags and eat dirty socks - I digress). I cannot think of a single thing lacking here. I will be back again for sure!

Had a great stay and the staff was super nice! It's really close to town which is great. We stayed in the secret room and it was really clean and comfortable. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to stay in the hood river area :)

My stay at Inn at the Gorge was pleasant. Nice area, Nice room, Nice breakfast. The incredibly low/horrible internet service was not so nice. If you don't need internet access, this place is a great place to stay for the weekend.

Our experience at this place was everything we could have hoped for in a B&B. Great breakfast and conversation with each of the nice folks who run the Inn, who also have tons of local knowledge. The dog Big'n was certainly a charming host as well. Cozy room with nice amenities at the property. It was just a short walk from the downtown main street area so we enjoyed not having to drive anywhere at night. Thank you for a great stay, and we highly recommend the Inn at the Gorge!

My wife and I chose Inn at the Gorge as one of our first getaways since COVID. We typically stay in hotels but this B&B seemed like a wonderful combination of charm and convenience. Unfortunately, we nearly had to cancel due to some last minute circumstances, but the Inn was able to accommodate our change in plans in a way that allowed us to come and enjoy the property. The staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful throughout the stay. My wife loved the beautiful yard and hot tub; I loved the old house itself that still had all of the modern conveniences (we really appreciated the kitchen in our room that let us enjoy take-out for lazy days). The Inn is nicely situated so that town itself is a quick walk but far enough away that it is a quiet and peaceful locale. Everyone comments on the wonderful breakfasts and it's definitely the nicest I've had at any B&B and would have been thrilled to order this at a nice restaurant. I really can't recommend this property enough and we look forward to returning.

If you want a B&B experience, this is the place. Period correct rooms including claw foot tub & 4 poster bed are very charming. We were greeted by "Big'n" the bloodhound mascot-sweet, lovable guy & the manager. Very knowledgeable about the area. Owner, Michael, made it a point to meet us & answer any ?s. Room was clean. Kitchenette looked serviceable. I would give it 5 stars but we were only there for a brief, one night stopover.

We had a great time at this Inn. We really appreciated the friendly hospitality and beautifully appointed and spacious room plus one of the best breakfast's we have had on this trip! The owner of this Inn will personally greet you and give suggestions if you need. We took his advice and had such a fun time river rafting. We love the town of Hood River and the friendly people. We'll be back!

This is a lovely place to stay in the Hood River area. The location is balanced between the two main strips in the city. The room was very comfortable with a kitchen that came well equipped. The staff was very warm. Thank you Michael!

Yeah bed and breakfast. The Bed was everything you could hope for (+ a really nice bathroom) and the Breakfast was amazing.

WARNING--- A new owner has started this up again and is using the previous owners old website with no disclosure. It includes the previous owners names and faces, old photos and completely inaccurate descriptions of the common spaces. The owner does not cook breakfast, there is no dining area or dining table anywhere. We were told that breakfast will be brought up to our room. He goes and gets breakfast burritos in take-out boxes from a cafe, and puts them on a tray with a pot of coffee and paper towels for napkins. The "wrap-around porch" is half full of junk. The "Study" room is full of furniture and junk. The living room has a messy desk, a couch and a tv (his couch and tv). The entry door we were to use has no functioning lock. But the credit card billing system works great. This guy has no clue what he is doing and should be shut down before he rips anyone else off.

My wife and I stayed in January 2015 for a weekend getaway from the kids and life in Portland. It was a short drive and a lot of fun as we stopped at an icy Multnomah Falls. We were the only residents for the time we were there which was really nice. We had all the attention from Frank. He answered all our questions and showed us the rest of the house. We stayed in the Terrace Room and it was perfect for us. It was spacious enough and had a separate entrance. Internet access was horrible however in this room but everything else was wonderful. Hood River pretty much shut down after 9:00 so we were left with not much to do. We did eat at the Mesquitery which was absolutely amazing. We'd definitely go back.

This was our first experience at a bed and breakfast and it was fabulous!!! The house is so beautiful. We stayed in the terrace room which was very quiet and private. We walked to town and had an overall fantastic time. Breakfast the next day was to die for!!! Three courses of delicious food. We could not have asked for more. It was perfect, thank you so much, Frank & Michelle!
