THIS IS THE BEST ICE CREAM STORE EVER!! It's unapologetically old-fashioned, yet boasts hyper-instagrammable ~innovative~ flavor profiles. Every time I have gone here, I have gotten something perfect to satisfy the deep ice cream craving I didn't know I had.
I've so far been here twice. The first time, I was soooooo excited to try their lavender honey. If it sounds weird, let it be said that this is a classic ice cream flavor combo that I first had in LA at hole-in-the-wall ice cream shops tucked away in arts districts or fashionable shopping areas, and I fell in love. I sampled the lavender honey flavor here, determined to have it, BUT something else caught my eye. A flash of pink, a tempting hint of luxury. The kitschy drawings on the handwritten menu advertising... strawberry basil? I had to try it.
The strawberry basil ice cream flavor is at the same time, creamy and decadent, and fresh. Fresh!! As fresh as a summer breeze. I don't understand how they packed this ice cream with all the freshness of air (with REAL strawberries and REAL pieces of basil) with all the richness of proper ice cream. This ice cream is the option that all sorbets want to be. This trip to Inside Scoop was in August 2019 and here I am still watering at the mouth thinking about it 7 months later. Lavender honey? I don't know her. Move over for strawberry basil!
Let me tell you about another ice cream adventure I had in this store. Picture the season: it was October of 2019, when the air is oscillating between fall and summer. It was still warm out, but the yearning for some pumpkin spice hits. Enter Inside Scoop with the perfect middle ground option -- Oreos Pumpkin Spice. Visually, it was Halloweeny, with its bold orange color and splotches of very dark black. But flavorwise. Flavorwise! It was the perfect balance of pumpkin spice and chocolate. I usually sit in the camp that pumpkin spice and chocolate should never touch, because they are flavors that overpower each other too much! But these two danced on my tongue and it was as heavenly as feeling the fall leaves crunch underfoot or cozying up with a warm chenille blanket.
I look forward to more ice cream adventures! :")
Oh. Also, it's worth it to mention that all the flavors are made in-house and sometimes they sell out of the good ones in a single day, so try to come early!!
