I had never heard of Insomnia Cookies before I came to East Lansing, so I was completely unaware that they are a franchise. Husband's co-worker is a big fan of these, and repeatedly recommended to him to check it out. We finally got our chance recently, and I enjoyed them, but I wasn't all that crazy about them either.
Don't get me wrong, they were good cookies. They tasted great, though a bit too sweet for us (especially the S'mores deluxe cookie, but the Snickerdoodle was better). I liked that their novelty is a simple one - served fresh and warm out of the oven, and they deliver to all the starving college students and patrons alike until 3am! However, that's pretty much where the brand has its point of difference.
For two cookies, we spent around $5 after taxes, and they weren't even that big (probably about 3"-4" in diameter). It's not like that they use inventive techniques or special ingredients to warrant the price, so I didn't think it was really worth it. Also, not like it pertains to me, but what about the gluten sensitive individuals? It would be such a huge bummer if you were at a party and everybody was munching away, and you couldn't just because they didn't offer it.
I'd still come here if I were in the area for an occasion treat, but it's not something I'd come out of my way for. Next time, we'd probably stick with 1 cookie and split it. Oh, and don't forget to enter your name for a free box of cookies!
