My partner and I recently stopped by Intelligentsia Coffee in Chicago and had a great experience. We ordered a couple of flat whites and tried a few pastries—all of it was really tasty. The coffee was smooth and well-made, and the pastries were fresh and delicious. Even though the space is a bit small, we didn’t have any trouble finding a seat, and the cozy atmosphere added to the experience. The staff were friendly and attentive, which made the visit even better. Overall, it's a great spot to grab a quality coffee and relax for a bit.

I got tried the apple honey latte, and just wasn’t a fan. The staff and the atmosphere get 10/10. I felt welcome and it was just a cool coffee shop. If you are in the area, definitely check them out!

I was recommended this coffee shop by a friend while visiting Chicago, and it turned out to be a charming, cozy spot despite its small size. The iced coffee was solid, delivering the standard quality you’d expect. The Danish was a pleasant surprise—flaky and flavorful. I spent a few hours here working remotely, and it was a great environment for that. The shop offered excellent Wi-Fi, making it easy to get work done while enjoying a relaxed atmosphere. Overall, it’s a great place to unwind, grab a coffee, and get some work done.

The Avena latte tastes great, highly recommended and definitely keep the cayenne pepper on the top. I'm surprised to see that the pour over is done with an automatic machine nowadays. The one we got has a slight acidity, but otherwise doesn't have much flavor.

Cafe was really cute! Quick to order and make. The staff was really nice. I got an oat matcha latte for a little over $8, pretty expensive. I’d give it a 6.5/10. The color was really nice but the flavour wasn’t all there. I think I’d try this place again and just order an iced coffee!

Prepare for 10-15min wait time on the weekend… Interior is nice, but due to the high traffic, almost impossible to work/study here. In and out cafe. Cold Brew tasted ok.

Kind and fast service, a nice simple and clean interior and lots of cool options to try that are slightly more sophisticated than the average coffee shop. I had the oat matcha latte and it was very well done, especially if you are a fan of the less sweet coffees.

This place is overrated. We were on a day trip to Chicago and went in the morning with the mindset of kick-starting our day on a good note. The person collecting our order was way too expression-less, as if he was just there to do his job as a robot. We got a chocolate/almond croissants and a hot chocolate/signature pumpkin spiced chai drink. The croissants were stale, probably from the previous day. You go to a cafe expecting fresh bakery items in the morning. The pumpkin spice drink was modest, nothing special. Hot chocolate was probably the only drink we liked. Will not come back.

Looking for an afternoon caffeine pick-me-up while visiting Chicago, my husband and I found Intelligentsia Coffee. It was walking distance from our hotel so we made our way over. The staff were very kind and the space was bustling with people working and hanging out. The coffee itself was quite tasty and reasonably priced. I ordered a simple cold brew with some sweetener and oat milk while my husband was adventurous ordering an espresso beverage with tonic water. So if you're looking for a quick caffeine fix, come check this place out.

Visiting from out of town. I came here because it was near my hotel. My friend and I ordered lattes and breakfast tacos. TLDR: latte was just ok, tacos sucked, and service sucked. I ordered apple cinnamon latte or something and it wasn't bad - felt like a fall drink. The tacos seemed to have been pre-prepared and came wrapped in several layers of foil and paper. When my friend and I bit into our tacos, they were both still cold. I kindly asked the workers if I could get my taco heated up but they were very rude. They said I couldn't get my taco heated up because I had already started to eat it, which I understand. However, I kept having to explain that we couldn't have known the food was cold until trying it. After a little back and forth, they offered to give me a new taco (actually heated up). Overall, felt like they didn't care. Tacos were not good and poor service.

The coffee is AMAZING, the location is too, but it's a russian roulette, when it comes to the service. I come here 3-4 times a week to drink a cappuccino and eat a canele (it's my small ritual before getting to work or studying), and it's really unpleasant to face with some workers attitude. Just now I placed my order again, the guy at the register was super nice and friendly, but the girl making coffee was rude. When I asked for a napkin (that's smth that you can expect at a coffee shop), she snapped at me "Unfortunately, we ran out of napkins!" No sorry, nothing That's definitely NOT a customer's problem, that the business is out of essentials on a weekend. Honestly, I felt not good. After paying $12 for a cappuccino and tiny sweet desert. I didn't use the food stamps to pay for my coffee, it's an expensive place , so you kind of expect certain level of service.

After running a race in the city, I was desperate for a warm, caffeinated drink. Intelligentsia delivered! I had a delicious, beautiful Chai Latte with an extra shot for good measure. My drink came out quickly, tasted great (I love when a Chai is *spicy* and not too sweet!) , and I loved the cozy vibes within the shop. Service was kind and answered my questions about some of the other drinks on the menu.

The service was good and fast!! I tired the apple honey latte. And it was just okay, again the service was good and the vibe of the coffee shop was great!! I would definitely try another drink when in area!!

Had to stop by Intelligentsia during my quick trip to Chicago! Loved the various espresso drink options. I really enjoyed my Avena Latte! The oat milk and espresso mixture was tasty and the spices definitely gave it a kick! The spiciness reminded me of a oaxacan chocolate except in latte form instead of chocolate. The Iced Angeleno featured a higher espresso ratio and was a little too strong for me but I did like how it wasn't too sweet. The canele was also good - crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside with a prominent vanilla sweetness. It was busy on a weekend morning but drinks still came out at a reasonable time. There was a good amount of space with some tables and a giant high top table, as well as some outdoor seating.

Moreover, the establishment's proximity to Millennium Park makes it an ideal location to grab a cup before or after exploring the iconic green space.

(5/5) Iced Limelight: pretty good-- tastes like iced tea + shot of coffee (4/5) Cappuccino: too strong and herbal tasting (3/5) Americano: too watered down (3/5) Service was fast and good. Ambiance is casual and nice. Seating was pretty limited-- definitely better to get your coffee to go!

Expensive but good coffee. I tend to come in when we get downtown bc it's so close to the metra station. I like their seasonal apple honey latte! Was surprised. It's always busy. But it's friendly. They have good cookies too.

Stopped by for a late afternoon sweet treat. The chocolate chip cookie was quite good and I inhaled it instantly. The chocolate wasn't too sweet and the brown butter notes really elevated the cookie

A bit on the expensive side for coffee but they care about their craft! The avena latte was creamy and smooth and had a kick from the cayenne. The cappuccino was also made well and was rich and strong. Coffee shop vibes--if you can nab a spot, can definitely do some work or studying inside the shop (or outdoor seating area), though there are some warning signs posted about watching your things due to their metro area location.

Coffee was good but felt like a little burnt, had a little complication with the order, but we figured it out to its best outcome.

Starbucks reserve was tempting, but Intelligentsia certainly hit the spot. I ordered a decaf drip, which I seldom see in your average mom n pop coffee shop. I enjoyed my drink, but everyone in my group was going crazy over the cayenne latte. I had a sip, spicy and creamy is not for me but I can see the appeal. Not much searing available, would recommend for grab n go vs chilling.

Admittedly I'm not a big coffee drinker however this place came highly recommended by some locals. I tried the Avena Latte and it was so delicious. They add ginger, cinnamon, vanilla, and orange peel and to top it off a little pinch of cayenne. I had never tried cayenne on coffee but it works so well. This drink on a windy day in the city was simply perfection. Service was good. I will keep this on my to go list for when I visit Chicago again.

Intelligentsia is one of the most respected names in third wave/specialty coffee, and a pioneer in the movement. They began as a small business in Chicago in 1995, and now have a presence in NYC, LA, Austin, Boston, and of course their hometown. They roast beans with traceable origins, pay their farmers fairly, and serve only the best coffee. I expected this shop in downtown Chicago to feel a bit corporate due to its location, but the space managed to be cozy and welcoming. The baristas were genuinely friendly, and there was plenty of seating and charging outlets. I ended up sitting down and working for a few hours. Their Avena Latte nearly brought tears to my eyes, it was so good. Black cat espresso spiced with orange peel, ginger, vanilla, cinnamon, and a touch of cayenne; this latte had the perfect level of sweetness with bright hints of heat. I ordered it with oat milk before realizing that the default in this drink is oat! 10/10. I dock one star because my Canele was burnt.

Good coffee for when you need a quick place to grab a freshly made coffee. The building is a cozy spot with some ample seating. Right off the busy street.

This was our last breakfast in Chicago and I was absolutely pulled in by the pastries! The Nutella cruffin had my name written all over it and I was in desperate need of a London fog to get through our flight. Arrived around 9am and there was a steady line, but it was moving so I committed to waiting. The staff was friendly for all their hustling and I appreciated not feeling rushed as I asked about a few things. After paying, it was a short wait for our items. The London fog was perfection. Delicate hint of vanilla and the splendor of earl grey to put a pep in my step. The Nutella croffin was flaky and chocolately goodness. The ship is clean and airy and the offerings will provide you ample things to try out again and again. I'd definitely try this coffee shop again when in the area and so excited to see what else they create!

My first and only visit to Intelligentsia was good! The employee was nice. We ordered right away and coffees were made quickly. We ordered a hot mocha and the iced Angeleno. The mocha is made with a house-made ganache. I enjoyed the chocolate flavor but it wasn't the best mocha I've ever had. The iced Angeleno was great. It had the right amount of sweetness without overpowering the coffee flavor. It was $7.35, which is overpriced in my opinion. Both coffees were expensive and although they tasted good, it's not a place I need to go to again.

Cute spot with good coffee. Fast service and very casual. Location near Millennium Park is a plus. Decent coffee selections and pastries. An easy morning spot to grab coffee and walk the city. Should be preferred over the many Starbucks on every corner.

Came here on a Friday afternoon and stayed for a few hours. They have strong WiFi and a decent amount of seating. The Avena Latte is my favorite latte in Chicago. If you like spice, definitely get the cayenne on top. One of the employees also walked around to give us a sample of coffee which was sweet.

Best coffee I had my whole time in Chicago. The cappuccino was excellent. There were a few tables if you wanted to sit and pastries in the case.

After a quick search on Yelp, we decided to stop by for our morning coffee. We got the vanilla latte with oat milk. It came with cute latte art. The coffee was very smooth and perfectly sweet and oaty, just how we like it. It was a very unassuming coffee shop, but it was really good. I'd highly recommend trying this coffee shop if you're in the area.

solid coffee spot in loop to grab some coffee while shopping! Seems to be always quite busy though so best to grab and take it to go. I also really like their cold canned coffee, great to have stocked in the fridge!

Five stars for having oat milk available at the milk/sugar station! Most coffee shops charge extra for oat milk in your coffee, but Intelligentsia has it available to add to any coffee you order and to get the color exactly to your liking. The inside is spacious and coffee beans are available to take home as well as branded merch. The iced coffee was exactly what I needed to get my work day started.

Was visiting from out of town and needed my coffee fix. Service was very quick and friendly. My cappuccino was delicious and perfect, just what I needed. Definitely recommend if you're in the downtown area!

Probably the best coffee in Chicago. Only knocking a star because it's a small location and hard to find a spot to sit sometimes. However, that does make it feel a bit more neighborhoody right in the heart of downtown. I've tried numerous coffee drinks (all good), but most recently went with an iced chai latte and was blown away by how amazing it was. Maybe the best chai latte of my life. As far as food, I feel many coffee shops fall flat, but Intelligentsia knows its strengths and (I believe) outsources its baked goods. I've had very delicious scones, croissants, donuts, etc. that go perfectly with a caffeine pick-me-up. I've never had a problem with service, but the vibe is overall pretty chill. Overall, this little coffee shop has definitely become a tried and true.

So tasty little comfortable nook to work or come by for a quick cup of joe to go. Very comforting ambiance

I can't comment on atmosphere since I went in for a pickup but I can say they make a delicious chai. It was a great balance of spices and sweetness.

Intelligentsia is like fancy starbucks - they're all over chicago but have just enough pretentiousness for you to think you're in a small local roaster and not a huge national chain. The coffee here is fine, nothing out of this world. The tea selection is fine too. This particular location is not ideal to sit and work- the counters are ridiculously small and literally have only enough room for a cup of coffee. Even my purse was hanging off the side of the counter because it was so microscopic. The reason this totally fine place is a three star for me is the service. The woman taking our order was really nice. My friend got a coffee drink and I just wanted a cup of hot water on the side-I was having a sore throat. I would never ask a business to just give me stuff, but since my friend was buying a $6 coffee drink and I was just asking for water, I felt it was ok. The friendly lady taking our order asked one of the other employees sitting behind the counter to grab me a cup of hot water, and he visibly rolled his eyes and went "Jesus Christ". If there is a problem with giving customers water, just say so when they request it- no need to audibly and visibly embarrass them. I think intelligentsia truly is just a starbucks with higher prices for their supposedly superior coffee, with employees that are bothered by customers. I would much rather pay for coffee at a small local shop and talk to baristas who are really passionate and/or friendly.

Just spent $30 here for rude service and apathetic attitude. The cashier seemed very annoyed by me even ordering and I was the only person in the store, so it's not like they were overwhelmed. I live on the east coast and LOVE visiting Intelligentsia when I'm in town. I've also been to ones in LA, Austin, and Boston. If this were my first visit to an Intelligentsia, I'd probably never visit again based on this morning's interaction.

Our tour guide Martha has highly suggested this place as we are walking around downtown area. Sure good experience here. I dinged them a single star only because their large is actually a medium size. Great experience.

Generally positive experience and great expresso based drinks like lattes. Also had a match drink but would not recommend, drink was lukewarm which brought down a star. I'd recommend asking for extra hot to avoid this.

Coffee is freshly ground and very aromatic. I got decaf wasn't in the mood for regular after 3pm. Cute little art design. Service is quick and place is simple.

I've had their coffee a few times, so I thought I should check out the actual coffee shop instead of having just their bags of coffee. The staff was really nice and knowledgeable and the place was nice inside. I ordered an iced latte and it was good. The coffee was really creamy and not bitter at all. Definitely would come back

Let me start with who doesn't love coffee!!! This place is amazing and looks very aesthetically pleasing. It is a great place to go on a date. It looks nicer than Starbucks. Sorry, Starbucks readers!!! Although I love Starbucks, this place is cleaner for me than some of the Starbucks I went to. The Avena Latte was nice and warm. The cashiers are very nice to me. The reason why it is not a 5-star rating is that when I went the outside was under construction.

I luv luv luv intelligences coffee! The cheese croissant was tasty so would recommend for a breakfast option. I stopped here to work for a morning and baristas were excellent. They have a small outside sidewalk seating too. Enjoy

My favorite Matcha latte spot in Chi Town! On our recent visit had to come and refuel ! I found Intelligentisia on Yelp and it was less than a 5 minute walk from our hotel! I even came here twice back with a friend on Saturday ! It's a high end coffee bar chain serving daily brews in an industrial-chic setting!! Yay winning! Got there on a Friday mid morning and it was pretty busy and I asked for the matcha latte to be designed and guess what the guys gladly did for me ! Great customer service ! Ambiance was fun! lots of people ! All working on laptops and enjoying the hot beverages! Reminded me of being in Europe! Also ordered the almond and regular croissants for my daughters ! They loved them! They also lived their matcha ! Only thing is they do not accept cash !!! Not sure why but come by with a card if you're in the area!

When in Chicago, you have to come to Intelligentsia since it's from here. This location is pretty spacious, and there's a nice parklet outside that's shaded in the morning. I got my go-to iced almond latte - smooth as usual. Order ahead is available. This location was less crowded with tourists, which was nice. Bonus: they were doing a promo called Single origin Saturday - $2 off any bag of single origin coffee!

Coffee was good. Pastries were microwaved and too buttery. Service was also okay; our order came quick.

A small coffee shop in the heart of Chicago's financial district, and a good place to grab a coffee or mocha (my fav.) Because it's kinda small, seating isn't always available, but still a great spot.

I usually go to the Lakeview or Wicker Park location, but since I started working in the Loop this summer I paid a visit to this Intelligentsia location for my morning coffee. I had a chance to try the Avena latte, which wasn't too sweet and had a special spicy kick to it! When I visited, it wasn't full of people but I have seen this place be busy with people working on their laptops or stopping by for quick pick-me-up before heading to the parks. Conveniently located and well-kept, I'd recommend people to try this café out if in the area & if visiting Chicago for sure! Their coffee is good for gifting as well!!

Flew in from NOLA and went here to get the day started. I got the Avena Latte and it's hands down one of the best coffees I've had out here. Hints of sweetness and spices. Paired great with the beignets from cafe du monde
