The Best Hotels in Bordeaux

"Smack in the middle of the city, the 130-room InterContinental Bordeaux - Le Grand Hotel is a reliable high-end bolthole and the ideal entry point to much of the city's main attractions. Rooms are as you’d expect in an InterContinental: capacious, modern, and comfortable, packed with color and character reflective of the city. The hotel’s upmarket allure is further articulated through its five-star offerings, like at Le Pressoir d’Argent, the hotel’s two-Michelin-star restaurant helmed by the Gordon Ramsay group and highlighting regional foods and wine pairings, as well as at the Guerlain Spa, located on the fifth floor, featuring a relaxation pool full of ambience, a sauna, hammam and various treatment rooms. Higher up, the rooftop bar features some of the best panoramic views of the city, thus serving as an evening hotspot for travelers and locals alike." - Monica Mendal

InterContinental Bordeaux - Le Grand Hotel

"Opposite the magnificent eighteenth-century Grand Théatre, the 150-room Regent Grand perfectly mirrors the aristocratic elegance of this lovely city, thanks to the exquisite interiors of designer Jacques Garcia. Black-lacquer wrought-iron lamps with pleated silk shades soften the reception area, which is furnished with striped-velvet barrel chairs and potted palms, and rooms are done in pretty nineteenth-century damasks and wallpapers, with reproduction Napoleon-something furniture. The signature restaurant, Le Pressoir d’Argent, is a stunner with a rocaille decor (seashells set into elaborate plaster moldings) and a sublime seafood menu. There’s also a lively wine bar, a brasserie that provides great people-watching from the sidewalk terrace, and the promise of a full-service spa. It became an InterContinental in early 2016."

"If you were measuring strictly by the number of quality hotels, you might conclude that the city of Bordeaux is little more than a backwater. For a city of a million, it’s a bit short on noteworthy hospitality experiences — which is why the re-opening of the city-center Grand Hôtel, just across from the Grand Théâtre, is such a big deal. This 18th-century grande dame is back in fighting trim, after a redesign at the hands of the well-known Parisian interior designer Jacques Garcia." - Tablet Hotels

InterContinental Bordeaux Le Grand Hotel | Best places to stay

"Just opposite the landmark Grand Theatre in the heart of the Golden Triangle, Bordeaux’s 230-year-old Grand Hotel is once again the shining star of its luxury hotel scene. Originally designed by the great Parisian architect Victor Louis as a vast, private mansion, this neo-classical masterpiece sits proudly in a prime location on Place de la Comédie, Bordeaux’s central square. Behind the impressive facade, the interiors are equally grand thanks to a thorough renovation by top interior designer Jacques Garcia’ vaulted ceilings, chandeliers, marble surfaces and opulent baroque flourishes. Filled with the spirit of Bordeaux’s renaissance, it oozes colour, elegance and class. The elegant Michelin-starred Pressoir d’Argent restaurant, named after its silver lobster press, is one highlight; the magnificent Spa Guerlain and roof-terrace Jacuzzi is another. Wine lovers will adore the dedicated wine concierge for arranging visits to and tastings at Bordeaux’s most prestigious chateaux. The location is ideal for sightseeing – and you’re in the heartland of Bordeaux’s beautiful architecture here. The surrounding Golden Triangle is a lively, bustling area, busy night and day with cafés, restaurants and high-end shops filled with locals and visitors. " - Dana Facaros

Maybe the best hotel experience I've ever had! The Intercontinental Bordeaux is a historic and beautiful hotel in the very center of town. We were greeted by the most helpful and cheerful staff you could imagine that made the check in process so easy and enjoyable. The room itself was spacious and beautiful (photos can't capture how nice). Premium products in the bathroom and the softest bed I've slept in. We were celebrating our anniversary and they sent us champagne and a cake. Absolutely wonderful.

Terrific hotel. Friendly efficient service. While our room was compact, it had all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. The location of the hotel is superb ….a pedestrian’s delight. The meal at Pressoir d’Argent was one of the best I have ever enjoyed! Breakfast buffet is spectacular!

My husband and I stayed at the Intercontinental Bordeaux for only two nights, we were blown away by the service. We were checked in by the very lovely Andrea at the front desk. After our long day of travel she was very kind, recognising our status as IHG Platinum and Intercon. Ambassador members. We were allocated a beautiful suite with direct view of the Opera House, along with some delicious welcome plates of macaron, the local canelé and fresh fruit. An absolute delight. The hotel locations is very central with a number of amazing restaurants, bars and retail stores to explore. We were also very impressed by the spa facilities, although did not have the time to enjoy a treatment this time. Throughout the stay we found every member of staff we encountered to be charming and helpful from the Bell Team, to the staff within the lounge bar and the breakfast team. We look forward to returning.

We had the most wonderful experience in the Orangerie bar. We had planned on visiting the roof top bar but unfortunately it was closed due a private function. ||When the gentleman by the name of Hugues overheard that I was celebrating a milestone birthday, he kindly sent a selection of desserts and candle to our table to mark the occasion and to make up for our disappointment at the roof top bar being closed. It was such a lovely gesture.||The orangerie setting is divine and we loved our cocktails and champagne. Thank you so much. I would definitely return!

Upon checking in we were happy to be upgraded to a suite for one of our other rooms. The suite didn’t feel like a suite but like two rooms put together into a suite. No living room table for the supposed living room. All the amenities were not in good shape. It feels outdated and didn’t know if the rooms were even inspected. The brunch at the boudior de Lea was absolutely terrifying experience. It took 30 to order and another ten for the drinks to arrive and another ten for the food to come. The wait is long but we expected the food to be excellent coming from a restaurant within a five star hotel. The food is cold without any temperature and it’s feels like a lack of care for the food. Overall it’s a terrible experience in both the hardware and software. The director of rooms said she would like to follow up with us, there was no follow up at all. The location is great but other than that’s it’s not worth the price for a suite or a room.

House keeping did not replenish black tea and enough cream despite requesting on 2 occasions. In a family room for 3, only 2 bottles of water and 2 chocolates were left each day. Other than that, staff were friendly and helpful. We loved the old original feel of the building and interiors. The family room was very spacious and we appreciated having 2 bathrooms and separate toilets. The special gifts for our son on checkin (toiletries etc) were especially attentive.

We were received and welcome by Sabrina, She was most accommodating and made us feel comfortable. Also during our stay Morgan and Andria were most helpful during our stay. George was also helping making all our reservation. All in All I can say that Intercontinental hotel in Bordeaux met all our expectation. Keep up the good work. Thank you, John Mirsepahi

Google
I wish I could give this hotel a higher rating. The location is excellent and most of the staff were wonderful, but our experience was not worthy of 5 stars.||We booked a premier room with balcony through our Virtuoso agency, but over our 3-night stay we had to change rooms three times. The first room (419) was a shoebox-sized space with a balcony accessible only by a stair, blocking any view — more of a “classic” room than the premier category we paid for. The second room (307) was a much better size but had an overwhelming sewer smell, apparently from recent rains, that made it impossible to stay in despite staff attempts to spray it away. Our final room on our last night (421) on the top floor was comfortable and odor-free, but by then the constant moving had taken away any sense of relaxation. No gesture beyond an apology was offered for the repeated inconvenience.||Breakfast was good overall, but the egg chef was temperamental and unaccommodating - refusing orders when busy the aw one morning and unwilling to prepare scrambled eggs with cheese on request the third - insisting we take previously made eggs from the buffet and just add some cheese on top. This is simply not the level of service one expects from a 5-star property.||While the location and most of the staff were excellent, with the repeated room issues, I could not recommend this hotel.

Amazing stay, spacious rooms, great service, terrific central location, wonderful setting of main bar, highly recommend.

Yelp
Location, location, location. Perfect spot for launching some sightseeing in Bordeaux. Lovely old hotel, very accommodating and experienced staff. We stayed on the fourth floor, a very quiet room. Room was reasonably sized and had a few quirks often found in European hotels.. toilet room on one side of the room and the tub and sink room on the other side of our room. We liked the roof top bar and the morning breakfast buffet. Would absolutely stay here again.

Yelp
I didn't stay just had drinks at their cafe to use their bathroom. Very chic, snooty, and exclusive. Spent 60 euros for Ginger ale, tea, and some pasteries. Felt pretty elite using their bathroom, which I might add, was very nice. After pooping I felt special. Highly recommend for average class to spend little money and experience how the rich deficate, worth every Euro!

Yelp
This hotel is very centrally located in the heart of the historic center of Bordeaux. It is directly across from the opera house and is in a beautiful historic building as well. Upon arriving, we received a code so that we could drive to the front of the hotel (there are barriers if you don't have a number). The valet took and parked our car, which made check in easier. The check in was a delight. We received an upgrade from the junior suite to a superior suite, which has a bedroom, living room, 4 closets, a bathroom, shower room, and 2 WCs. There were blackout curtains and it was very quiet. In addition, the gentleman who checked us in told us that he is from Bordeaux and let us know that we could ask him or the concierge for any restaurant or itinerary recommendations. The concierge is top notch. I developed a very painful toothache the first night here. The following morning, I asked for a recommendation for a dentist. He booked me an appointment WITHIN AN HOUR at a nearby dentist who spoke English within a 5 minute walk to the hotel (although I speak intermediate French, I could not have adequately described my symptoms). The breakfast buffet had lots of options and they were tasty. I wish the cappuccinos were a little bit stronger but that is the only tiny complaint I have about this hotel. We are enjoying our stay. The staff and accommodations are wonderful.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite hotels. We stayed here in the summer of 2021. It is centrally located and is walking distance to many shops, restaurants and sites. We had a suite and upon entering the first day, we had a greeting card from the manager along with complimentary snacks, fruits and beverages. The room was spacious and beautiful. The walk in closet was enormous. The separate living room was comfortable and stylish. Don't skip a visit to the rooftop to see stunning views of the city. The concierge was very helpful in setting up a private tour to St. Emilion. They also arranged our transportation from the airport to the hotel and our hotel to the train station. We would definitely stay here again.
google avatar

Yelp
The concierge at this hotel is amazing. They will help you with anything you ask. Our hotel room was a bit of a disappointment. The walls are fabric and although the toile fabric is pretty, it does hold a cigarette smell. I personally don't care for down comforters and pillows. The staff was so lovely, they were always pleasant and helpful. I highly recommend booking wine tour through them. It was my favorite part of our stay.

Yelp
Great experience overall. This was my first time in Bordeaux and the hotel corresponded to my expectations. The staff was very friendly. Room was big. I definitely recommend this place to americans visiting the region

Yelp
Our room is Huge but we do have a one bedroom suite. Room 318. It is well appointed . There is a Nespresso machine (this is always the highlight for me ) The bed is comfortable. We have 2 flat screen TVs. The bathroom is good size. The bath tub is big.

Yelp
Hotel was extremely welcoming and the staff were very helpful. It's well placed right in the centre of Bordeaux and right next to Rue Sainte Catherine.

Yelp
I stayed at the Intercontinental Grand Hotel de Bordeaux in May 2018 on 26/5/2018. It was my 1st time there. I was traveling with A&K and they chose the hotel. The location is perfect to be able to walk the main parts of Bordeaux. Friendly staff as well. Plus, I took photos.

Yelp
Oh France!!!! I love you so... The GBH is a beautiful building although I didn't have the pleasure of staying there. I did however experience an enchanting facial. I was so dang jet lagged I promptly fell asleep.... Zzzzzzzzz The star of this experience is really the facility, it's beautiful a resistance swimming pool, a dry and wet sauna. This charming loft lounge where you can have a juice or coffee while noshing on the best Turkish apricots I've ever had. Merci Beaucoup

Yelp
A wonderful stay! Checking in was a breeze. We were upgraded to a suite facing the opera house and the square. This hotel is centrally located to everything. Restaurants, shops, sights. Concierge quite helpful. George, Paul and Phillip. Nicholas at front desk very profesional. The room was spacious, clean and the bed comfortable. The hotel breakfast consist of a buffet and an omelet station. Service friendly. Make reservations way in advance for Chef Gordon Ramsey restaurant located in hotel. Highly recommend this hotel.
google avatar

Mary N.

Yelp
Stayed here a few weeks ago with a friend (for a girls trip) and had a great stay. The concierge (George) and the receptionist (tall young male... we forgot his name) were super friendly and gave us great recommendations for our trip. Our room was clean, beautiful and had a great view of the opera house across the street. Our only complaint (which might be due to our unfamiliarity with the showers) was that our bathroom floors got incredibly wet anytime either of us took a shower. The concierge was able to get us last minute dinner reservations at the Gordon Ramsay restaurant downstairs (which is also a must try). Overall, service was AMAZING and we loved our stay.
google avatar

Jim B.

Yelp
Nice staff with a varied room selection. Not 5 star as the Grand Hotel continues to hold on to the strange tradition of having shower nozzles, not stationary shower heads. Excellent location, with a nice rooftop view and pool. The breakfast buffet is very good and the staff is very professional. Our jr suite, overlooking the front of the hotel, was huge, but a bit noisy. While my sister's jr suite was quite a bit more intimate and also "quiet as they come", our Jr suite was a bit louder with a view of the Main Street and plenty of street level noise.

Paul B.

Yelp
One of our most memorable and enjoyable hotel stays. Arriving for the weekend, we were upgraded to a room with a view of the opera house across the square. Staff: terrific, escorting our car in and out of the limited access square, helping and advising us during the course of our stay, including expert advice and help in booking restaurants. Location: could not be better, on a square with great cafes in and near the hotel and at the intersection of two major shopping streets. Room: spacious, elegant.
google avatar

Barbara H.

Yelp
First, the rooms are nicely appointed. The spa is beautiful. The reception is a bit cold. We were not offered any support going to our rooms, despite the fact that we had several rooms. They also made a mistake on our rooms, and I ended up with a lower class room, but same price. The terrace bar is cute, but drinks are terrible. Not really recommended. The restaurant breakfast is also not well organized and service lacking. The restaurant was not good, but you can read those reviews separately.

Yelp
This is the most beautiful, traditional hotel in Bordeaux. Even if you are not staying at the hotel, do go in for a cup of tea or coffee, it's worth it! Located in the heart of Bordeaux, the rooms are beautiful, with a view on the main square and the Opera. As in any luxury hotel, service is impeccable...
google avatar

Yelp
From start to finish this place has it all. The location is perfect, the hotel is gorgeous, and the staff is focused on providing every customer with personalized service. I enjoyed it so much I decided to come back during my trip throughout Bordeaux and stay an extra day. If you make it be sure to check out the spa and the rooftop bar. Both are unique and amazing!
google avatar

Jonathan M.

Yelp
Worth checking out the rooftop bar at this hotel called night beach. The view over the main square is worth the inflated drink prices.

Yelp
My sister and I stayed here 3 nights after staying in 2 chateaus in Loire Valley. Compared to our stay at the lesser expensive chateaus, this hotel did not live up to its price point. We were upgraded to a junior suite which was nice but the room had problems. The entrance into our room smelled and that smell of organic mold lingered into the sleeping area. Our bathtub was stained so it looked dirty. The lighting was terrible; we couldn't make it bright. The bathrobes are stiff like cardboard. The concierge though nice enough was unwilling to go out of his way to deliver good customer service. When our room was being turned down for the night we went to the lobby and asked the concierge for the room service menu to place our order. He told us simply that he didn't have the menu. I guess room service menus are not printed to have extras--only enough for one menu per room. Ok so we had to wait until we had access to our room to look at the menu. The spa is coed and serves the fitness center for the hotel. Ok fine but when we went to use the jacuzzi we encountered a random naked man in the spa. Unsure if he was a guest. The rest area after your massage overlooks the indoor community pool which was noisy. Finally, there were not enough cardboard towels to go around. Will have to give kudos to the 2 star Michelin restaurant Le Pressor D'Argent. This was a 3 hour culinary excursion not to be missed.
google avatar

Myndi D.

Yelp
Where shall I begin? Le Pressoir d'Argent is a Guide Miche one star in the process of earning a second, so every one and every thing is exquisitely presented. The room is gorgeous, in a classic style with tables set elegantly far apart, a ceiling high enough to permit indoor kite-flying and a staff as skilled as the kitchen. If every resaurant followed this formula, Murghk could give up cooking - assuming he actually holds last Saturday's winning Powerball ticket. The tariff is definitely not for the weak of heart (or faint of pocketbook), but worth every Euro the human male spent. (How often have you heard me say that?) We were greeted and shown to a lovely table against the far wall in the first room. Quiet and unobtrusive, with a good view of the rest of the room, it boasted a wonderful serving staff. After a polite inquiry about cocktails (which we declined), the carte des vins was promptly offered to the male. As one should expect in the absolute heart of wine country, it was heavily weighted towards local vineyards, and carefully curated to prevent oenophilic anxiety; though the number of bottles not requiring a second mortgage on the nest was limited. We chose a 2005 from an unfamiliar chateau, but either the sommelier thought it appropriate or completely off the wall because he smiled as he said "Excellent" and scurried off to the cave to retrieve it. For the record, it was superb - full, rounded with tannins that became velvety as the wine opened and released dark red fruits with a hint of cedar and earth on the extraordinarily long finish. Starters were exquisite. As we were puzzling through the menu, a lovely amuse-bouche was presented, and included macadamia nuts dusted with gold (literally!), a long, crisp and very thin breadstick stuck in an almost mustardy mayonnaise, and a lobster mousse dollop on a slightly savory macaroon. A second amuse bouche, a tantalizing taste of red mullet with vegetables in a broth was so good it gave Milady second thoughts about her main course - fortunately it was too late for her to change her mind. Milady ordered the fois gras; marinated in white wine, roasted and served with country bread. I ordered the scallop carpaccio which is served as two scallops covered with an overcast of foie gras then kissed with a flame, on crispy rounds of mango. It is finished with a drizzle of Xerez balsamic vinegar. The contrasts of soft and crisp, sweet and sharp, hot and cold are simply perfect. [Slurp]. To ready you for the main course, a delightful palate cleanser of blood orange sorbet topped with a froth of Tahitian vanilla. At this point one begins to think that the rest of the meal must necessarily be a letdown, but one presses valiantly on to the main event. The speciality of the house is the world famous blue lobster of Brittany. It is priced in 100 gram (about 3 1/2 ounces) increments to prevent sticker shock; you choose your own lobster (lobsters are integral units, so you must order a whole one), call your broker to arrange financing, and wait while it is pre-prepared. It then arrives at the table with a saucier of broth and the presentation begins. The waiter takes everything but the tail and claw meat, adds the roe, places it in the "pressoir" and extracts the juices. She (or he) does this three times and then adds the extract to the broth, spoons in a dollop of heavy cream, a dash of salt, freshly ground black pepper, and expertly whisks the mixture into a sauce which is gently pour over two towers of artfully arranged tail and claw meat. There is simply no way to describe how incredibly delicious the dish tastes. One forgets everything but the taste - "l'addition" will be of no consequence, one's children will simply have to forego private school for a public education, the car will last another decade - there is nothing in the world like this meal. Dessert was almost anti-climatic; but it wasn't. A hollow dark chocolate shell filled with litchi sorbet which surrounded a pingpong ball size scoop of Tahitian vanilla ice cream. The combination was a knockout - whatever disappointments you have ever experienced when you ordered a tartufo will be forgiven. Milady ordered a praline souffle. Laced with amaretto, blanketed with chantilly and bedded on the previously mentioned litchi sorbet, it surprised and delighted with a combination of textures and flavors that is completely unique. On our very first trip to Paris we ate at the Jules Verne. We had dinner at Stone Barn at Blue hills last winter. At each of those fine restaurants we dined well - and spent nearly as much. The gastro-theater at Stone Barn was first rate, the view at Jules Verne was unique, the food at Le Pressoir d'Argent was better.

Yelp
this is for the rooftop bar only. very very expensive, tons of flying bugs, not worth the price for the view. the view is good, the wine was ok, but not for the price in plastic cups.

Yelp
beautiful and well managed hotel in Bordeaux. room is quite small.

Yelp
We stopped in for a drink and it was a truly remarkable experience! The cocktails are made with immense care and creativity, and the service was impeccable! Definitely a must see while in Bordeaux!

Yelp
Although the rooms are a little smal for this category and price this hotel maintains the usual high standard of the SAS Radisson chain. The service was excellent. Very good location.

Yelp
I had a fantastic stay here during my honeymoon. The concierge was so incredibly helpful. I wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else in the region. The hotel was the icing on the cake to an amazing vacation.
