"InterContinental Mark Hopkins Rising up from the top of Nob Hill, the elegant InterContinental Mark Hopkins has a deep history in San Francisco . Mark Hopkins, one of the founders of the Central Pacific Railroad, built his mansion on this site in the 19th century. Most of the original property was destroyed in the fire that followed the 1906 earthquake, but mining engineer George D. Smith snagged the prime location, which, on clear days today affords views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay Bridge. The hotel opened in 1926 and has entertained movie stars, presidents, musicians, and international dignitaries, among them Elizabeth Taylor, Elvis Presley, Dwight Eisenhower, and Nikita Khrushchev. (The Rolling Stones once booked two floors to accommodate their crew.) Multi-million dollar renovations and a 2002 restoration have kept the hotel both current and beautifully preserved. Start your stay with a sunset cocktail at the hotel’s historic sky lounge, the Top of the Mark."

Our stay here (3 nights) was very comfortable and enjoyable. The room was beautifully finished. Sheets, towels, and mattress were comfy. Room was squeaky clean. The entire staff was so friendly and helpful, starting with a guy named Tony who greeted us enthusiastically and handled our car and luggage. We enjoyed visiting with the guys behind the desk, the cleaning staff, everyone. We took a quick look at the top floor lounge; it had a nice dance floor and a lounge band playing. We wanted a quiet dinner so did not linger there. Location is good—on Nob Hill with the cable cars. This property charges a resort fee and parking is expensive, but probably reasonable for the area. We will plan to stay here again when we visit next year. It’s a nice place.

Best hotel value in SF! What a jewel. Excellent service from a longtime staff who genuinely care; clean rooms and very fair prices; quiet location with a cable car right out front - what more can you ask for? The longtime pro staff (Al the greatest doorman / valet of all-time + Akram & Wayne in the dining room and a few others) give the hotel a personal touch missing from all the other hotels. True that the carpets and furniture are gently worn and need upgrading and the place could use a little touch-up painting (come on IHG!), but overall the hotel is well polished and glorious. Rooms are very clean, quiet and very nice and you either have wonderful views of downtown or of Golden Gate Bridge at higher levels (or cable cars on the lower levels). The dining room is beautiful with excellent food and service. There is a wonderful small park just a half a block away. Parking is overpriced but we parked one and a half blocks away at the Masonic garage for almost half the price with full in-n-out privileges. The few negative reviews I see are greatly exaggerated. We have been coming here for 20 years and are never disappointed.

Google
My absolute favorite hotel in San Francisco. Located in the quiet/safe neighborhood of Nob Hill. The hotel itself is rich with history and the oldest intercontinental hotel in the nation. That being said, the rooms are a bit dated. However, the beds are comfortable and the location cannot be beat. On the top floor, you have the Top of the Mark where there is a bar and live (usually jazz) music on the weekends. During the holidays, the hotel is decked out in decorations and a Christmas tree! Oh, and you are very close to all the cable car lines! Great for sight seeing! Staff are also all amazing, especially David at the front desk.

The hotel carries a rich history, so don’t anticipate the sleekness of modern accommodations. Nevertheless, my four-night stay was delightful. The service was impeccable, and the breathtaking view from the “Top of The Mark” was truly worth the visit. Each moment spent there felt like a step back in time, adding to the charm of the experience. Food at room service has a small menu but its delicious.

The exterior has lots of art deco vibes and the foyer is grand, swish and attractive.||We checked in easily, and found ourselves in a well sized corner room. It was a classic take on the slightly older hotel - looks great initially but then one or two scrapes and so forth that really could and should be fixed. No-one minds a small scuff on a wall and so on, but there was a good sized lump of paintwork out of the room ceiling and the bathroom sink had a huge crack in it.||We had breakfast a couple of times, an a la carte affair that was not a bit too style over substance, with some unnecessary noodling of otherwise regular dishes.||The area it is in is a bit odd really - it feels like it's on the edge of somewhere else that you might want to be! Hope that's not to the south as the hill back up to the hotel is monstrous.||Overall it was a pleasant stay but it was a big disappointment to find that the high level bar was closed, on our last night, for a private function. It had been one of the reasons for picking the hotel over others and it's a personal bugbear when hotels book out their feature areas.

After a night of long delays flying from NYC, we arrived to the hotel around 2:30AM. Only being in town for 48 hours for a wedding, sleep was the most important thing for us. We had a small issue with our first room and the Overnight Front Office Manager Aubrey helped us with our request in a professional way and he was lovely to work with (especially at 3AM!). Our new room was perfect and we really enjoyed our experience here. Definitely will be booking for our next trip!

I was looking forward to my stay at the Mark Hopkins because of its history and the luxury brand. Unfortunately, my experience was not up to the standards I expected from a premium hotel.||Upon arrival, I attempted to check in around noon but were informed that I would need to pay an early check-in fee of $50, even though rooms were available. As members without status, I was told I could check in at 2 PM, one hour before the official check-in time without a fee. This experience was quite shocking and disappointing, as other hotels (not even premium brands) typically allow early check-in without an additional fee. The attitude and communication skills of the check-in staff were poor and need improvement to actually make the mark. The entire experience just didn't sit right with me, and on principle, I chose not to spend more money at this hotel. I waited until 2pm to check in.||There was also confusion regarding the Top of the Mark F&B vouchers. The check-in staff did not explain how the vouchers worked, and I later discovered at checkout that they could not be used for gratuities, only for F&B and taxes. I was also charged taxes on the F&B vouchers, which seemed odd as I had to pay taxes again when using them. Furthermore, not all credits were processed correctly, and I had to request adjustments for charges on our second visit.||The experience at the Top of the Mark was nice. Service was good. However, I recommend to those who wish to purchase the vouchers be aware of what is covered, keep track, and check their hotel bill at checkout. ||After checking out of the Mark Hopkins Hotel, I stayed at another premium hotel nearby where the experience was completely opposite. They did not charge for early check-in and made me feel valued and welcomed.||The poor experience at Mark Hopkins did not leave a good memory, and I have no incentive to establish status with them, especially after reading other reviews from people with status who also experienced similar treatment. Overall, just beware of fees! As the saying goes, "You will always remember how people made you feel." Unfortunately, the way Mark Hopkins made me feel ensures that I will not be returning, as there are other hotels that appreciate my business.

Google
A beautiful, historic hotel with great views. Reasonable cost, and service was sometimes great and sometimes below average. The Top of the Mark is nice. Our minifridge in our room didn't work, one of only 3 elevators was broken and the blackout shades have a glaring gap in them that lets in morning light. Could be 5 stars with better maintenance and service.

Yelp
My family and I drop by here really quick to see the Christmas decors. Love the Christmas tree and the big red chair next to it. Loved all the fun Christmas decors.
google avatar

Jasmine L.

Yelp
It is absolutely gorgeous outside and in the lobby. Pretty Christmas tree and decorations in the lobby in December. The room itself, however, was overwhelmingly dated. Kind of musty, honestly. And the carpet has definitely seen better days. The doorman staff were kind, though, it's just unfortunate that the room is so dated and small. It seriously needs a renovation. Otherwise, the room did have bathrobes and slippers which was a nice touch. I booked online for the parking package, which includes valet parking and late 2PM check out. We were confused when we were checking in because there's no parking lot and there is just a little space by the front door. Upon calling, they told us to pull through by the front door to unload our luggages and they would valet our car so valet parking only, no self parking lot. Check in was easy enough, and they brought our luggages to our room. No issues with Mark Hopkins besides the fact that the room was just really outdated. And with most SF hotels, the parking is ridiculous at $75. Price is on par for the area and it's in a great location on Nob Hill.
google avatar

Annie W.

Yelp
This is definitely not a review of the hotel or hotel service (except for the staff we encountered while visiting) since I didn't stay there. A friend and I stopped by just to see their Christmas decorations and were welcomed by the doorman and inside staff; so friendly and welcoming! The doorman held the door open for us and said, "Welcome." I'm sure he knew we were only there to see the decorations, but he treated us as if we were guests! They let us roam around the lobby and take as many pictures as we wanted and since we were the only ones there, it was wonderful! Really nice displays with plenty of photo ops; they have it set up so you could easily get some nice pictures. I really appreciated the friendliness of everyone here to make my holidays bright and cheerful!
google avatar

Drake M.

Yelp
They advertise "accesible" AND "disabled" parking available on their official site. Trusted our Christmas Vacation to them based on THEIR website. I am disabled and we are traveling with my 88 year old mother. I was informed by Lorenzo at the front desk it is $85.50 a day. Please look at the screen shots of their website. They only list a charge for valet parking and on a separate category under accesible parking they even list "disabled accesible parking". I can't tell you how this has negatively affected what was meant to be a beautiful family holiday. Misleading to say the least. Mom usted to come with my father in the 50's to the Top Of The Mark and we thought this would make a special Christmas for her. It is bad enough their website is misleading, the fact they have not corrected THEIR mistake is the reason I am giving 1 star.

Yelp
The Intercontinental Mark Hopkins is one of those swanky hotels from a bygone era that you just have to see to fully appreciate. It's an architectural marvel situated on top of Knob Hill, in the Downtown area. Cable cars run by on two routes taking guests to all the places they need to be. It's truly an incredible place! This is definitely a place where you can expect great service. From the bellmen, the front desk, and even housekeepers, they are all top notch and are here to make sure you have a great experience. The restaurant off of the lobby is where we ate breakfast daily, and it was always a great meal. This premier property will make a great base of operations to experience the Bay Area. It's definitely an excellent choice if you are a IHG Rewards Member or Intercontinental Ambassador. There are some good perks to be had if you are a member of these programs.

Yelp
My family booked a bunch of rooms here for a wedding so I was able to see a few regular rooms on top of both suites including the California suite and the suite across from it. The hotel itself is nice and centrally located in Nob hill with amazing views 360 degrees. The drive way into the hotel is very easy to miss and you're literally driving into the corner of the street straight into the hotel itself. There's tons of pedestrians standing in the drive way because I don't think they even know there is a drive path into the hotel. The staff at Mark Hopkins is phenomenal. Everyone is very friendly and the doorman remembered our entire party by name. He also loaded like 15 pieces of luggage into a cart and brought it to our room. The Gentleman running the counter was also very friendly. He even told us there is cheaper parking just 1 block away which we appreciated his honesty however there is no in and out privileges at the other lot. One lot is $85 after taxes and the other is $45. The rooms are a bit out of date. I felt like I was back in the 70s as well as the hallways. Definitely due for a paint job but at the same time, I kind of liked the rustic old school San Francisco feel. The rooms otherwise were very comfortable and the bathrooms and beds were all very modern. The suites on the top floor are massive. Perfect for a wedding if you have wedding things to do. Overall, loved the hotel and how it was walking distance to Chinatown, downtown and plenty of bus stops just a block away that can bring you to union square, ferry building, etc. The hotel is a bit outdated but comfortable. Service is excellent but parking is expensive. There is alternative parking close by for half the price but without in and out privileges.

Yelp
I had a frustrating experience with the front desk when I called to pick up a charger that a guest had left for me on Oct. 9. The guest informed me that they dropped it off at the front desk for my collection. However, when I arrived on Oct. 13 to pick it up, the staff had no idea where it was. I called ahead of time to confirm the charger was there, and the front desk assured me it would be ready. But when I arrived, no one seemed to know anything about it. The staff was disorganized, and no one took any responsibility for the issue. I was left standing there while they shuffled papers and whispered to each other, but still couldn't find the item. On top of that, they were quite rude and dismissive, and a certain Byron from front desk rudely answered my follow up call as if it was my fault that the item was lost, I was just asking him to repeat his name but he just hung up the phone. There was no apology or effort to make things right, which was extremely frustrating. This kind of poor communication and lack of professionalism is unacceptable. I expected a simple process but left feeling completely unsatisfied with the service.

Yelp
Stayed here almost a week: Pros -Friendly Checkin -Big room -Have pads of paper and pens! -I asked for room far from elevator and got it -Breakfast and Top of the Mark QR code for menus in the elevator -Request for 10 more hangers came fast despite that it was 1am -Bathrobes -Slippers -All the girly amenities (shower cap, (good) cotton swabs, sewing kit, etc) -Good shower pressure -Lots of hot water -Gym has lots of equipment, cool temperature, and clean. -Old fashioned mail slot on every floor- love it! -Fast elevators Cons -Small bathroom -Very few hangers (and I asked when I checked in online) -Straight shower curtain rod. Haven't seen one in awhile. They should upgrade to the curved one. -No makeup mirror :(

Yelp
The iconic Intercontinental Mark Hopkins Hotel sits at the top of Nob Hill on California Street. I booked the hotel using some points from my IHG account. We got off the BART at Powell Street with Google Maps telling me to hop on a cable car to get to California. However, it didn't account for the fact that during the holiday season, the cable cars are packed to the brim with tourists. So instead of waiting 40+ minutes, my husband and I decided to walk up the few blocks up Powell at a steep incline with our suitcases. We even entertained the idea of hopping on a passing cable car since there are stops littered along the way. We met a family who had waited at a stop near Union Square for over 25 minutes. No thanks. Now, if you're in moderate shape like us, you'll make it but if not, I recommend calling an UBER, taxi, or even waiting in line for that cable car to take you uphill. We were huffing and puffing by the end but we managed to make it to the hotel. The 19-story hotel was built and opened in December 1926. It is a San Francisco Designated Landmark and California Historical Landmark. That being said, the hotel is opulent in the Art Deco style. Upon checking in, Issa was helping us. As a Platinum Elite member, I was given either points or a drink as a member gift and allowed late check-out. I even got to discuss which room we would get. I asked for one that was away from the elevators, which we had a few choices. I opted for one with a view of Union Square and the City rather than one with a view of the hill. I asked about bottled water and Issa mentioned that we had water in the mini bar. He neglected to tell me about the water dispenser in the lobby and the one in the fitness center. I had brought a reusable water bottle with me so that's what we utilized. We had a nice room on the 11th floor with a king-sized bed. The room was nice but dated. The heat and air worked fine and the window opened a crack. That first night on the bed was rough as my husband had a hard time settling and he kept disturbing me whenever the bed moved. My back was hurting at the time so I had a hard time sleeping. The following day, I called the front desk to see if we could change rooms to one with two beds. It was possible except that the hotel was booked out for the holiday weekend so we were stuck. Jolene emphatically understood my dilemma so she offered a rollaway bed to be sent to our room. I said I had to discuss with my husband first. She also offered a bottle of wine to help me sleep, which was totally unexpected and very kind of her. My husband agreed to both the bed and the wine so we had housekeeping bring the bed up to the room. I guess there was a miscommunication regarding the wine so we didn't get it that night. We had put out our DND sign so they didn't want to interrupt us. I had called down the following day for something else and Jolene asked me about the wine not being delivered. I mentioned that we were in the room but the DND sign might have deterred room service and told her they had permission to knock if that was the case. We received the wine on ice with extra glasses. It was a really nice gesture. Our room was comfortable and clean. The housekeeping ladies were really kind. I went downstairs to the restaurant on two occasions to get a latte in the morning since it was easier than going to a nearby coffee shop. I did go to two different coffee shops the first two mornings but found convenience won out to me huffing it back up the hill to our hotel. My husband requested some salad dressing one day from the restaurant for his beet salad and they happily obliged him. One of the annoying things that kept happening was that my room key kept getting demagnetized so I kept needing to get a new one. I think I went downstairs at least 3 times during my 4 night stay. Finally, Issa mentioned to me on the last day that I could have called downstairs from the hallway to have someone come up to help me. Well, that info could have been relayed to me much earlier. Because of the changing microclimate in SF, we needed to borrow some umbrellas on the last day we were there (it hadn't occurred to me to request them before) and they let us borrow some which made it much better. We had hats and raincoats but sometimes in torrential rain, you just want an umbrella and they provided it. IHG is doing their Winter Chalet theme this year and one of the things you could do, was order fondue or charcuterie, in an igloo in front of the hotel. It's super cute but I didn't end up booking the experience. We saw people in the igloo while we walked by but maybe next time. The hotel is located in a safe area with great views of the city. We were close enough to places we could walk to, but we could also hop on the MUNI or a cable car or BART, as needed. The staff was extremely kind. We had a great time staying at the IC Mark Hopkins.

Yelp
We just checked out of the Mark Hopkins where we have stayed many times in the past. It was as lovely as ever. Starting with the cheery greeting by Sal at the door and Ric the concierge and getting checked in by Issa, all the way to check out, this hotel is the final proof that bricks and mortar do not make a great hotel. It's the people. Aslam and Akram in the restaurant were a pleasure to see every morning. Housekeeping was very helpful and attentive. Another real treat was the Top of the Mark, the top floor bar. Sean and David, the totally professional and hugely funny bartenders was where we started and ended our evenings. The Mark Hopkins is our go to hotel in San Francisco and we can't wait to be back.

Yelp
The view from my room was wonderful, but the street noise was very loud. It wasn't until my 2nd day there that I noticed the seal between the two window panes was missing in parts, allowing more street noise in. It seemed pretty chilly at the top of the mark at night. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable.

Yelp
Roaches. Roaches. Roaches. Oh my. I recently checked in (7/18) to find the room completely unkept, dusty, used toiletries, and filled with roaches. Although the staff showed complete compassion toward the situation, they policies and procedures on how to handle roaches and guests suffering from a less than comfortable stay are appalling. Management also lied upon checking out stating I would be fully refunded. The custodian came in the room with a towel and proceed to smash around the room chasing the roaches. Once he stopped seeing movement on the walls he proceeded to say "I think I got em'" and exited the room... I called down to see if I might change rooms. They continued to downgrade me from the 14th floor to the 5th floor (moving multiple rooms due to the conditions) with lots of street noise even when I expressed wanting a more quiet space. The next day, I was getting ready in my room when hotel staff ENTERED MY ROOM without warning OR permission! I yelled to them "EXCUSE ME" and they apologized through the door. Blaming they reservation desk, even though I had a DND on the door. Lastly, I checked out as soon as I could the very next day (same day as staff entered the room w/o permission). They claimed I would be fully refunded and gave me a folio as proof. Now, I am disputing the charge because the completely went back on their word! Lucky I grabbed the folio for proof of what the manager shared.. Please note: this hotel made a deal with the city to house the house less of SF. Someone shared this link with me AFTERWARD I shared my experience: https://nypost.com/2020/06/27/san-franciscos-failed-experiment-of-homeless-hotels-is-a-cautionary-tale/amp/

Yelp
Dated hotel could use some TLC but it's still an amazing property with so much historical value and significance for San Francisco. The service was excellent throughout the property. The staff was very nice and accommodating to requests. The views are outstanding from the top of the Mark bar a must for pictures on a clear day. The negative is the room were dated and wallpaper was deteriorated. The bathrooms were clean but dated. The furniture in rooms were in needing of some TLC as it was scratched in many places and the bed wasn't the most comfortable. Breakfast was excellent I loved their Avocado toast and poached egg it was one of the best I have had in California. This place could easily be five stars with a room and hall renovation.

Yelp
The rooms are small and older but the ambiance of the hotel is lovely. It's quiet, not super lively and I was less than impressed with Top of the Mark, they don't serve food during the day and no bloody Mary's (at least when we went. That being said, the valet was phenomenal and so kind and the front desk person, Issa was incredible. We called the 1-800 number to book our reservation and they put us in the wrong hotel but he fixed it and was able to accommodate us and was so helpful with information about the hotel and surrounding area. I just wish all customer service people would be like him, whatever they are paying him isn't enough to be the face of this hotel. Thank-you so much!

Yelp
I always enjoy staying here when in SF. Clean rooms , excellent service. My wife and I spent our honeymoon night here. Love the view from the Top of The Mark. Enjoyed breakfast in the room!

Yelp
I fell in love with the InterContinental Mark Hopkins when I saw the photos of the elegant lobby. The hotel staff welcomed us so warmly that we felt like royalty-not 2 weary cross country travelers. We also appreciate all of the help we got from the concierge-Mr. Ric. He encouraged us to ride the infamous Cable Cars and thanks to him we have wonderful memories and photos of the experience. In addition to the lobby, the restaurant is elegant and the guest rooms are beautiful. My husband and I have traveled throughout the US, western Canada, and the British Isles and this hotel is at the top of our list! Thank you InterContinental Mark Hopkins for such a wonderful vacation.

Yelp
Been to the Mark Hopkins 1 time . I celebrated my birthday at the Mark Hopkins ! The room is very spacious and has a great view! When you got to the restaurant at the hotel order their bagel and cream cheese! At night go to the Top of the Mark and get a fancy drink or chocolate lave cake

Yelp
What a dump. This poor hotel. Peeling wallpaper from the 80s in the bathroom. A ballroom slathered in gold radiator paint circa 1976. Carpets that induce (and have seen) vomit. This building, its staff and its suckers/ patrons deserve better.

Yelp
A classic. Yes it's a bit worn but I don't get the complaints. Staff was friendly and it was quiet and comfy. My only complaint is that the crew at top of the mark wouldn't let us have a seat at any of dozens of empty tables despite being hotel guests. It has attracted a trashy crowd I'm afraid, but still the best view in town.

Yelp
This review is specifically for the winter Chalet located in the parking lot of the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins. When I originally seen the setup on instagram it looked like it could be located somewhere on a high floor of the hotel however it was located right in the parking lot. It was nice to have your personal area but people incoming into the hotel were so nosey they kept coming up to the chalet and taking pics while we sat inside and asking us questions. That is at no fault really of the hotel but I think they should have had someone stand by to ask that they don't disturb us. We ordered the chocolate fondue and the charcuterie board. It came in a beautiful basket and the chocolate fondue was kept warm in a pot which sizzled the whole time. Unfortunately they brought us the wrong fondue spread to go with the chocolate but the server had no idea what should go with chocolate. They gave us the potato vegetable plate to eat with chocolate. When we finally received the right plate it was a bit stale. There's a blue tooth available for music but it was not charged. We made it work and put on our own jams. There's a blanket but it was way too warm inside for any further warmth. I love the concept and I do know this was the first year offering this so I know it could only get better. For two it came to about 300$+. The waiters were sweet and talkative however they must not be regular servers perhaps? Since they really thought we were going to eat the veggies with chocolate. We rearranged the items over for pics so don't expect it to be displayed that nicely. Everything is arranged in boxes.

Yelp
I loved this hotel. Perfect location. Vintage vibe. Comfortable beds!! The only thing that sucked was that there was no full length mirror in the room but it's okay. The view was nice and had a nice stay.

Yelp
Outdated, needs major renovations because it has the potential to be more appealing if this is complete. The room we stayed at, mainly the bathroom stank like disgusting body odor... Cloth shower curtains are not really sanitary in my opinion... I would not come back and I do not recommend as it is just a hype. And not worth the price you pay for... Just stay at the Fairmont-- your experience will be better-- hence the cock roaches review... That really made me and my luggage feel better...

Yelp
The experience with this hotel was the worst one ever. The parking fee is 86 dollars per day, which is crazy. And after I checked out, I didn't get my deposit back, and they even charged me 500 dollars for penalty for the reason that I smoked in the room! But I never smoke! They just randomly charged customer for high fee when they thought the customer might be the tourist and won't come back again! And for the whole month after my stay, I didn't even received any receipt of this fee charged me, and no explanation for that until I reach out to them, and they said that I'm smoking! Really insane!

Yelp
Good service and location. Rooms are a bit dated but clean. Excellent location with easy access to touristy spots (walking distance or cable car) on top of the Nob Hill giving great views of the bay. The bar at the rooftop is also a great benefit. Not on the cheaper side, but 'reasonable' for the neighborhood.

Yelp
Spent 4th of July at Mark Hopkins! I've probably had my best sleep there because the bed was so comfortable. Felt like royalty staying there! Such a beauty of a hotel. I really enjoyed my stay. We seen the fireworks in our hotel room and we had a great view! the room was so spacious as well

Yelp
Such a great stay at an iconic hotel. The staff was incredible from the moment we checked in and loved every minute we spent there. Restaurant is wonderful with amazing breakfast options and great lattes. And of course Top of the Mark was a bonus every afternoon. Stay here!

Yelp
We stayed at the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins for a class reunion, which was also at the hotel. Our flight arrived several hours before check in and despite having over 1000 guests arriving, they allowed us in the room early, without hesitation. The room itself was a bit small. It was probably due to the age of the hotel, which was built in 1926, so they probably didn't offer king beds back then. Anyway, as long as you weren't dancing in there, it was fine. There was a nice bathroom, a fridge and desk and a large TV. The remote was mostly worthless but it sufficed. The banquet room was spectacular. The service there was incredibly efficient and the food was outstanding as well. The area around the hotel was nice. Lodged on Nob Hill, between busy downtown and hectic Chinatown, it was quiet. Grace Cathedral was 1/2 block away, as well as Huntington Park, a quiet getaway. There was even a convenience store two blocks northwest. For the price, I expected better amenities but overall, our stay was comfortable.

Yelp
We had a 24 hour layover in San Francisco and decided to stay here. really loved the location since we walked everywhere but remember to wear comfortable shoes since the hills in San Francisco are no joke. We got to the hotel early and they were very accommodating and let us check in early. Our room was beautiful and clean. The room had amazing view of downtown. After a day of sightseeing we had a nightcap at their bar Top of the Mark and it was a great end to our fabulous day. Everyone in the hotel was super nice and friendly. The hotel is stunning and clean. If you would like to see videos and more pictures of my stay check out my video. https://youtu.be/mQvQ8MsgIoA

Yelp
We had a very nice two night stay in a room with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge. The room was quiet, clean, it had a coffee maker, full length mirror, makeup mirror, safe, soft bed, excellent heat/A/C, quick elevators, friendly staff, quick room service, no bugs, excellent quality shampoo, body bath, soaps, quick check-in/out, great valets, great location, yeah. It was all there. Not sure what the other people here are complaining about. No homeless people inside or out. The restaurant and room service menu is limited in choice so check that out, but there are many options nearby. Close to Chinatown and the Wharf. Top of the Mark has nice views and is worth the visit. I did not see anything "run down" about this place. Only negative would be the windows need serious cleaning. Paid for the view and they were not clean. Kinda didn't matter because of the fog over the bridge, so keep that in mind if you are paying extra for your view.

Yelp
InterContinental finally killed the Mark Hopkins! This jewel of San Francisco is now a step below a Holiday Inn. It's crumbling, dirty and adorned with cheap lamps and furniture that look like they were auctioned off from low budget Vegas hotel thirty years ago. They don't even have room service anymore! What used to be a grand hotel is just a memory of its former self. Rusting away in a sea of corporate mediocrity. In my opinion there's two kinds of hotels. The kind where you keep your shoes on while you're in your room and the kind where you don't. My shoes are on...

Yelp
If you stay here you will be woken up by firecrackers at 2am and 4 am. For the last three nights in a row Hooligans have been using their property to launch illegal firecrackers. If you stay here you will be woken up in the middle of the night by loud explosions that sound like bombs detonating right outside your window. I've brought this to the attention of management and nothing has been done. They are even too lazy to clean up the remnants of fire crackers off their property. Friday night: 2am and 4am, Saturday night: 1:47am, Sunday night 1:30 am. Just have some patrol the back there. Report this to the police.

Yelp
The Top of the Mark is a cool little bar at the top of the Hotel, with a really nice view, but that's about the only thing I can say positive. The service was fine, but the extra fees are just Rediculous. I was charged a $29.00 fee per day in what was described as a "destination fee" what the hell is that? I drove to the hotel, which was my destination. Also, the valet parking is a disaster. It's $75.00 per night plus tax, and it took them 30 minutes to get my car when we checked out.

Yelp
My stay here was awesome. It's an old timey hotel with history on the top of Nob Hill. Shout out to my main man at front Desk Miguel. The guy has everything under control and could not have been more accommodating to my gf and I. Our room was great; clean, big, simple, with two different views including Grace cathedral. Also Ric, thanks for the recommendations and having your other associate save my sweatshirt. Oh and the Chinese pastries were delicious. I was all about that green tea red bean paste one! It's people like you and Miguel and the security guard, that separate hotels. Y'all make it go from a normal nice hotel stay and make it an unforgettable vacation. Also, the security guard, working the graveyard 9/23/23, appreciate you man. I don't drink and the man conjured me up some diet cokes when everything was shut down. Everyone else was amazing as well. But these gentlemen really made the stay unforgettable.

Yelp
Older historical hotel. It's beautiful with all the architectural details. Rooms should be updated. For the hotel of this level, the rooms have to be updated. The views of San Francisco are gorgeous from the room. Service is five star, location is amazing. People who work here are kind and attentive.

Yelp
Staff are friendly and professional. What Intercontinental has done with this property is a crime. I am excusing COVID and staffing shortages. We realize things will be different now. Rooms ( probably redone in the 80's or early 90's) are dirty and the dilapidated furnishings have nothing to do with any definition of a luxury hotel. This neglect has clearly gone on for years prior to COVID. Peeling and moldy wallpaper, peeling paint, broken and stained lamp shades, and no where that your eye can rest were something isn't shabby, shabby, shabby. Windows so dirty you can barely see through them.

Yelp
This place has become, well the place to stay. It's old charm contains San Francisco history and the location is prime. You can take the cable car to north beach or china town within minutes. The staff is always friendly and while there may not be a lot of modern day amenities, it has what you need. A good view, central location, a bar/lounge and easy parking (I mean we are paying to park, but have been lucky enough to snag a free spot across the street). The rooms and bathrooms are smaller, but that's part of the charm and true history of the city. This place is a must stay.

Yelp
I stayed here this past weekend for 2 nights and let me first say it's not a 4 star hotel to me. It is more like a 3 star. The hotel seems outdated. A major con was that the blinds woke me up both days. The best part of the hotel is location it's centrally located and walking distance to union square and some good restaurants and bars in the area. Also, the Fairmont is across the street along with the tonga room. For the price it was good but I probably wouldn't stay here again. I got a good price or else probably wouldn't stay here after this experience.

Yelp
The hotel room exuded classic luxury, which means it was old and needed to be updated. It's always cold in San Francisco, and the heating didn't work well. It was clean and had great service, but I wouldn't recommend it unless they upgraded the place.

Yelp
Beautiful Hotel, centrally located, reasonably priced especially for Nob Hill. I've stayed here every winter for the last 20 years to go pub crawling with a freind. The views from the rooms are spectacular, fun ending the night at the famous Top Of The Mark. What a great view, excellent bartenders and reasonable drink prices . My favorite expensive single malt Scotch is half the price of other bars in town. They used to serve breakfast buffet up there too but moved it downstairs, I hope they'll go back upstairs someday. Mainly I want to commend the staff of the hotel, they remember me and my friend from year to year and are always very helpful and friendly. Particularly Al, the doorman and Wayne in the dinning room. There are a couple of other gentlemen in the dinning room whose names I dont know but have been there for years. Highly recommended

Yelp
I had a very bad experience in this hotel. I was there for a wedding at the rate established by sales dept. As I was searching for directions to hotel I came across a rate that was $50.00 less per night. Upon arriving at the hotel they would not match the price that I found on their sight. They supposedly gave me an upgraded room, if you want to call it that. The room smelled like body odor, the carpeting was dirty and smelly. One of my friends told me before going there that the hotel is tired, and I could not agree more. I would say that the views are pretty however there is not much around there and hard to get to.

Yelp
I was looking so forward to a luxury stay at the top of Nob Hill at the Mark Hopkins. My friend booked us two rooms for a girls weekend away. I grew up in the bay area so I'm very familiar with the Mark Hopkins quality and was sadly disappointed. I guess you could blame it on the pandemic and not enough staff. The good: Great location, wonderful housekeeper Janet, restaurant dinner was terrific. Linens and pillows are wonderful. Elevators were quick and clean. The bad: Upon checking in the man at the front desk told us our room would have a SF Bay view. It had no view at all of ANY body of water. We were only on the seventh floor and very noisy from street traffic below. The telephone bedside did not work at all. No luxury bath robes in the closet. Two small bottles of body wash and one small bottle of body lotion but no shampoo. We asked and it was delivered. The chair at the desk has no support at all. When you sit on it it hits bottom. The bed was extremely saggy on both sides and high in the middle. Some of the buttons on the desk telephone such as room service do not work. It was a rapid buzzing sound. Best to just dial zero for everything. The TV remote controls are not smart. The button for guide and menu, do not work. There was no beautiful Hotel book in the desk drawer explaining the safety precautions, the amenities and television instructions. It kept saying "check your cable connection and weak signal" when we would turn on the TV.. not user-friendly at all. The furniture looked tired and sad especially the chair with no support. Now the ugly: Next door to us was the equivalent of a "Frat party".... Loud music booming with a rap type beat constantly up until 12 noon today. Exasperation!!!!! Complaining to the front desk lead to nothing. Understaffed. I hope someday Mark Hopkins will be restored to its former glory with bathroom amenities like nail kit and Q-tips and nice robes in the closet befitting a San Francisco jewel.

Yelp
Giving 5 starts for their SUPERB staff. Jenn and her staff accommodated a large group of us at such a short notice and they did everything they could to make our stay comfortable. Would stay here again purely out of the hospitality and service of the wonderful staff.

Yelp
If I could rate this hotel zero stars, it would still be generous. Since the moment I arrived, there were issues!!!! First off, the furniture in my EXECUTIVE KING hotel room on the 16th floor is so painfully outdated, it looks like they picked it up from the street. After many attempts to get a specific table out of my room due to poor quality, the hotel failed to do so due to poor communication among staff. They claimed to have spoken to the guest staying at the room and were told that the table was fine. I WAS NEVER SPOKEN TO! Who did they speak to? No one from management approached me about the issue. Staff in the downstairs dining room will ignore you and not come by for 15-20 minutes. Expect them to charge you $7 for two pieces of sourdough toast and an extra $2 for breathing too much air. It's ridiculous. Very unwelcoming feeling. The gym: absolutely horrible. It smells, the carpet needs to be ripped off. The treadmills make a noise and do not feel safe to run on. The equipment is gross. One of the yoga mats has a brown, I identified stain. (See photo) Expect no one to answer front desk when you call. There are no microwaves in this hotel. When I asked front desk if there was any way to heat up some food, their response wasn't "yes" or "no" it was "I suggest grubhub or Uber eats" which left me confused because I asked about a microwave. So then I asked again about the microwave and then he said "we don't have any here in the hotel".....It was just so rude... It's not worth staying here even for the price, please go to any other hotel. Don't come here.

Yelp
I've stayed here a few times and don't love it. The service is fine and everyone is usually fairly accommodating. Haven't had an issue with that. The real problem is the bedding/towels. They are SO.OLD. The bed is really flimsy and noisy when you move around. They laid some mushy mattress cover (?) on top of the actual mattresses. The same way a tempur pedic would be except... it's definitely not a tempur pedic. It feels like a 50 dollar mattress cover. If you stay here I would ask for extra firm pillows as they ones they provide offer no support. My head falls flat to the bed when I lay on them. My father doesn't mind that but I personally do. I have a stiff neck when I wake up in the mornings here. I asked for a fluffy blanket because the duvets are pretty thin. They asked how many I wanted which was nice. What they brought was not a fluffy blanket but definitely a beach towel. It's rough and not soft/fluffy in the slightest. It's better than nothing but seriously... a beach towel? Last major complaint is the shower towels. They are only full size for someone who is 10 years old. It barely covers my butt when I use them and I am 5'7. I am spoiled though as I use the extra large restoration hardware towels at home that basically swallow you whole because they are so large. I am used to that. I did ask (called down) for extra large towels and they brought me the same ones so I assume they don't have larger towels. What is nice about the hotel: location (nob hill is where you want to be), valet guys are efficient and friendly, fairly prompt service when you ask for something, the gym has enough equipment to get by. I would recommend the hotel gets a cable workout machine as you can work every single muscle group with that. It would make the gym more comprehensive in terms of muscles that can be worked out. Honestly though, if bedding is of the utmost importance to you then I would spend the extra 50-100 and go to the fairmont. Their towels suck as well and I hate the bathrooms there but the rooms are far bigger and the beds are super comfortable. They also offer room service which is actually quite good.

Yelp
SERVICE- Stayed here for one night and the experience was excellent. From pulling into the drive way to checking out. Sal was an awesome hostess who greeted us outside of the hotel :) He assisted with the questions we had and emitted great energy. I can say the same about the hotel receptionist!! They were also all so wonderful. Very welcoming place to stay. ROOM- Our room was decent for its size and comfortable to stay. The room definitely had a Victorian vibe. We were on the 12th floor and able to see Alcatraz Island, the ocean, and a nice part of the city from our window. The view was amazing!

Yelp
Check in was fine, room was fine, too. Problem was that I asked the front desk to email my receipt- they never sent it. Called them repeatedly, getting out on hold, waiting forever, and then disconnected. After multiple attempts and many unanswered calls (phone just rang and rang) someone answered and said he would email the receipt. Still have not received it. Terrible customer service.

Yelp
I have Never been treated Rudely here before? Been coming here Forever! I was shocked by the Woman at the front desk. Time for a change
