InterContinental New York Barclay, an IHG Hotel

Great service!! I was working nearby and decided to visit for the weekend. I was immediately greeted by Eddie at Valet. He was extremely friendly and helpful. As I had arrived early, he gladly assisted in getting my luggage and took me to Sharon at the front desk. Sharon was able to check me in early, and I was able to enjoy more time in the city instead of worrying about my luggage and checking in. The hotel was elegant and walking distance to many sights nearby. Rooms were clean and beautiful.

Have stayed at the InterContinental Barclay many times, and it continues to impress with its timeless luxury and well-maintained, up-to-date rooms. The hotel itself exudes elegance, making it a great choice for those looking for a refined stay in New York City Midtown East. Service can be hit or miss—sometimes the staff comes off as a bit entitled, but over multiple stays, I’ve found that getting to know them makes a difference. The guest services team, in particular, is always helpful and proactive in solving issues, so I’d definitely recommend reaching out to them for any concerns. If you’re visiting during the Christmas to New Year’s Eve period, be prepared for crowds. The hotel gets extremely busy, and the stretched service is noticeable. However, outside of peak times, the atmosphere is much more enjoyable, and the experience is great. One thing I’d love to see is the addition of refillable water stations for sustainability in the Club Lounge. Eight-dollar bottled water isn’t practical for most guests, and having a refillable option would enhance the overall experience. There are refillable stations on every other floor! Despite some service inconsistencies, the Barclay remains a solid luxury choice in NYC, especially for those who appreciate its historic charm and prime location.

Beautiful property in a great location. Easy walk-ability to everything in the city. The hotel was decorated wonderfully for Christmas and my six year old was beyond excited. Our room had a wonderful view out to the bustling street below without the addition of too much noise. The bed was large and comfortable. My only concern was with the treatment I received at the Parlour Restaurant. My six year old, a friend and I sat down in the evening. We ordered two waters and a lemonade and the server was visibly irritated. Setting our drinks down we all said thank you and got no response. It wasn’t until we placed an alcohol and food order that she even addressed us verbally. This was a trip I planned thoughtfully for my son as he loves NYC and Christmas. If a hotel has such things as a “letters for Santa” mailbox and activities geared toward children staff should be accepting of parties of families.

The Barclay is a lovely older hotel - the location is convenient with a Starbucks around the corner and many solid options for dining and shopping. I stayed here for 3 nights while in town for a conference. The room had traditional decor with a comfy bed and well appointed but small bathroom. I was upgraded to a corner room which had an abundance of natural light that I enjoyed. The service overall was excellent. The only negative was a cheese plate that I ordered from Room service - a very sparse plate with grapes that were not the best. However, I do recommend this hotel and look forward to staying again.

Where do I start?||Our stay at the Intercontinental Barclay from December 29th to January 2nd was nothing short of phenomenal. This hotel surpassed all expectations, making our New Year's celebrations in New York truly memorable.||First, the service was impeccable. Ralph, the Restaurant/Bar Manager, went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. His personable and professional demeanour set the tone for a fantastic experience. Mario, who served us on New Year’s Eve, was equally exceptional—attentive, personable, and effortlessly likeable. These two stood out as a level above, but in fairness, every staff member we encountered was kind, professional, and accommodating.||The hotel itself is immaculate. The stunning lobby and hallways exude timeless elegance, with every corner spotless and well-maintained. Despite the busy New Year’s Eve period, the hotel never felt overcrowded, and we never had to wait for a lift—a testament to how well the hotel manages its flow of guests.||Our room was equally impressive. For an NYC hotel, the size was fantastic, and it was spotless and thoughtfully designed. The amenities were a luxurious touch, with Bal d'Afrique products generously stocked throughout—a detail that added a real sense of indulgence to our stay.||The location is unbeatable. Situated in East Midtown, it’s only a 5-7 minute walk from the hustle and bustle of the city, yet remarkably quiet at night. It offers the perfect balance of accessibility and serenity. Plus, it’s ideally positioned for easy access to highways from JFK and LGA, making arrivals and departures seamless.||This hotel is a gem in Manhattan. Whether for a special occasion or simply a visit to the city, the Intercontinental Barclay delivers an exceptional experience in every way. We cannot recommend it highly enough and look forward to our next stay.

First impression of the hotel is really nice and looks very inviting …. We arrived at the hotel around late afternoon but felt it took along time to check in as the lady on reception was struggling to find a room that was ready for us as we were a family of 4 she explained its more difficult … with this is mind when we got to the room which was lovely we found it was only set up for 3 people which meant we had to go down to see the concierge we received this for us. We found the gentleman on the concierge desk very welcoming and gave us lots information about the surrounding area and helped us understand the streets and avenues !!! The rooms are lovely and the beds are really comfy and the location is brilliant and it’s lovely as you’re just away from the hustle and bustle but all within walking distance from the famous land marks . The only negative things I can say about the hotel is the walls are quite thin so you can hear your neighbours in the next room. We also found at times the service in the bar area was very slow and sometimes struggled to find a table.

Great time over the Christmas with my family. Management and staff were very courteous, polite and supportive thruout our stay. Nils and Leslie at the guest relations were amazing and flexible to accommodate our needs. Yuri was super helpful at the concierge . Club lounge staff were wonderful with our 3 kids. Cleaning staff were great! Good time!

Really nice hotel. Spacious room, delicious breakfast, friendly and helpful staff. The location is also convenient. Not too noisy; Rockefeller Center, Time Square, Grand Central are a short walk away

I attended a Society of Professional Journalists event at the InterContinental New York Barclay between 2018 and 2020, and my experience at this venue was nothing short of exceptional. For anyone unfamiliar with New York City, this hotel offers a sophisticated introduction to Manhattan's upscale event scene. The combination of its classic design, high-end amenities, and prime location makes it an ideal venue for professional gatherings. The hotel exudes old-world elegance with its timeless, grand ballroom atmosphere. The decor feels like something out of a classic film, offering a "Gatsby-esque" charm that adds a sense of importance and prestige to any event held there. The interiors, from the chandeliers to the wood-paneled walls, create a warm yet professional ambiance perfect for formal events, conferences, or upscale receptions. Location-wise, the hotel is perfectly situated on the east side of Midtown Manhattan, offering easy access to major attractions while maintaining a more private and business-friendly atmosphere. It's close enough to the city's main landmarks without being caught in the overwhelming hustle of Times Square or other heavily touristy areas. For organizations considering event venues in New York City, I highly recommend the InterContinental New York Barclay. The venue strikes an excellent balance between luxury and functionality, making it well worth the investment for a memorable and professional experience.

Made reservations long in advance knowing we'd arrive late around 10:30pm 1. No porter. I had to lug four wheeled suitcases up a ramp. Inside, a porter was there 2. Huge soiled carpet stain, looked like motor oil, stained bottom of luggage 3. No 'normal' amenities left in bathroom 4. Impossible to speak with staff as wait time always exceeded twenty minutes (before I gave up trying) 5. When we left they added $170 to the bill without itemization. (We did have three drinks) They did have a comfortable bar area, that was a plus. However our motivation to stay here was the high ratings from Expedia. They certainly were undeserving of that!

I have been an IHG rewards club member for many years, and I have the credit card to prove it. This was supposed to be my annual free night with IHG. Nevertheless, they sent a bill for my room including $138, split into two separate "amenities" charges, plus tax. There was no explanation of what amenities were being charged for, exactly, nor why are there two such fees for only one night. Update: I just received a response from Guest relations informing me that the "amenity fees" were in the fine print at time of booking, but they have waived them for this stay. They are still charging me $125.12 for a $46 room service breakfast. The room service menu does state that here will be a 25% service charge, $10 delivery fee and 8.75% sales tax. Steep, but not unexpected. However, I make that $73.49, so I don't know what the other $50 and change is supposed to be. Room was clean and comfortable and location is convenient for midtown. But if you want to stay here, read the fine print closely and query every charge!

I have stayed here a few times and it's a very convenient location with decently sized rooms for New York. Pros: Blackout curtains and quiet help ensure a good night's sleep. I believe the rooms were remodeled recently so look pretty new. Cons: the gym is very small. I think it was a business center that was converted into a gym. There's also no free water in the rooms and a small bottle from the mini bar costs $10...

Love this hotel, but a word of advice - don't eat breakfast there. The breakfast buffet was included in my room so I figured I would give it a try. Worst breakfast buffet I've ever ever seen. My one and only reason for breakfast is bacon. They did not have bacon! They had some sort of "hash, which looked like dog poop. The eggs were barely cooked and the service was awful. It seemed like maybe there was only one person getting drinks for people. When I signed the bill, it was $54.51 for one person. If it wasn't free, I'd be really mad. Order room service because that is 1 million times better.

Look no further than this midtown upscale hotel right off of Park Avenue. The beds are incredibly comfortable. The hotel offers old style room service with delicious coffee pot of coffee in the morning vs Keurig only. The hotel staff were warm and welcoming, and the lobby had a lively bar. The rooms were quiet and I could not hear any street noise or neighboring rooms. Beautiful place and I will be back!

Christmas Holidays no better place to stay than the Barclay Intercontinental. From the GM Sofia Vandaele, Annmara in customer relations who took care of so many things for us, breakfast which is one of the best and servers like Fysal and his colleagues, housekeeping with turn down service....and of course the Christmas Carols each day with a different choir served with hot chocolate and cookies...all made this a really special Christmas. GM Sofia has an awesome team and this trip was made really special. Location is on the East side but its only a 10 minute walk to 5th Avenue with all of the lights and Xmas Tree and a short cab ride to Bryant Park. Very close to Grand Central with trains, food and a Christmas Fair. Lots of Xmas Fairs and great restaurants on 2 and Avenue. Ole and Steen next door for great pastries. Wonderful stay as always.

Great service, beautiful Hotel and nice fitness center. Love the location and decor too. Two cons: cannot control heat in room and was cold in October (staff brought blankets) and really hefty amenity fee but you can use it for $30 a day towards food and bev but yep diet cokes cost $30 with tip. :(

We couldn't have picked a better way to spend our WEDDING weekend in NYC! The intercontinental Barclay made our stay beyond special and made our wedding weekend a true New York fairy tale! Great location and clean room. Reception from Chris at the front desk was poor. He was rude.

Used to love it but the service has become comically bad. Complimentary water refills we were supposed to get as Ambassador members daily? Hit and miss seemingly at the whim of the person on duty. Soap and conditioner refills in the shower? Not unless we asked. Honor bar restock? Ditto. Sadly I can no longer recommend this hotel which used to be our go to. Look elsewhere.

There was a huge wait/ line to check in. Our room carpet had many stains on it. There was heavy dust on all the doors. There were used mini bottles left in the drawer. Pillows were terrible! The only thing I can say positive about the room was the bed was comfortable.

Opened in 1926: I stayed her a couple of nights & I think this hotel is overpriced. I'm a diamond elite ambassador IHG member, & I can't say this hotel did anything to acknowledge my loyalty to their chain. I went to breakfast both mornings I stayed here, & I found the waitstaff edgy & uninviting. I don't understand why they had to act as though each guest in the dining room was a nuisance, but they did. Fortunately, for us guests, we didn't need anything from the waitstaff except coffee or tea, because it's a breakfast buffet & the plates are so small that the hotel seems squeamish that one might actually get full. Breakfast was not enjoyable, because the energy from the restaurant staff was unfriendly & uninviting. I saw the waitstaff be quite dismissive to some guests. We were never offered a coffee refill either day. Clearly none of the waitstaff wanted to be there & they certainly didn't want us there either. This is not typical of New York City. I lived in Manhattan Chelsea from 1989 until 2019 & I know that New Yorkers don't behave this way toward guests, visiting this city. The bar area was small & hardly ever anyone in it. I certainly didn't have a drink there because it didn't appear any more welcoming, than was the restaurant for breakfast. My room was comfortable, but it should've been, for the price I paid. This historical building itself, opened almost 100 years ago, is why I enjoyed my stay here & gave my review 3 stars. I'll be returning to New York City a few more times this year for work & leisure, but I'll look for my accommodations elsewhere. I actually find kinder hospitality at Hyatt hotels & Marriott hotels, rather than the IHG brand.

This was somewhat of a surprise. I did not even realize that there was a InterContinental other than the one in Times Square. This one is rather elegant and feels newish. The rooms were decent by NYC standards and the hotel was spotless. The bed was comfortable. Very pleasant stay.

Great hotel, but I'm really leaving this review for Brentt u, the host at the restaurant in the lobby. He provides exceptional service and delivers it with humor and wit. He also saved me from leaving my nalgene water bottle behind! Its a great sign of customer service dedication when you employ someone like Brentt

We really enjoyed our stay! The staff was very friendly and treated us well. The bar service was not the best, but the drinks were delicious. The rooms were good size for the city, and very clean! Comfortable bed too. Would definitely come back!

This hotel had a case of bed bugs and did not offer to move the guest's room or refund the guest for the stay. Seemed like the hotel could have done much more.

Do not stay in this hotel if you are sober. They stock the room fridges and i called to see if we could have the alcohol removed from the room and they said it was $75!!!!! How crazy. $75 to have the alcohol removed from the room. I'm floored. It's a nice room but it's too expensive for that.

Perfect stay! We stayed for 7 days for family vacation. Location is perfect! You walk out and you don't t get herds of people. Transportation accessible with taxi or private. Grand central station is down the street. Walking distance to Broadway shows, nice cafés, restaurants. Staff- wonderful from maintenance to doorman. Ambiance- very elegant. My favorite part are the black-and-white floors and the sustaining of the beautiful 1940s architecture but yet modernized some areas to look pristine. Appears that the rooms were recently renovated keeping its elegance and extremely clean. Noise level- this I was concerned about with other reviews of different hotels, complaining about construction and not being able to rest. These rooms were pretty soundproof. No sirens all night by long like other areas. Whew. Food on site- they have a small bar restaurant in the lobby which is very nice perhaps just to have a drink. They are quite expensive so plan on having breakfast and then your cafés next door. It should be just fine. Other- this seems to be a hotel that constantly is providing conferences. But none of that impacted other as guests. I would just ask if you're going sometime soon about the public health concern letter we received about three cases Legionnaires this last week. Seems rare but I will say it did put us on our toes and we did not care about taking these quick showers avoiding some of the mist. Just double check, but it shouldn't deter you from going. Final note- would come here again!

Good Location. Shabby accommodations. Lackluster service. While we enjoyed the convenience of the location we were put off by the hotel in general and will certainly be avoiding the Intercontinental brand in the future. Our room was dirty and poorly maintained. Our bed was damaged and repaired with duct tape (pictures) and many of the fixtures were stained or damaged (pictures). The room phone was broken, I had to request room service form my cell via the front desk. There was also a pronounced random clicking sound (the source of which eluded me until packing to checkout) attributed to relay for the closet light that randomly switched on and off while the door was closed. Oversights and maintenance issues happen (I understand) however duct taping your furniture together is a deliberate act so I feel confident that this room is representative of the Intercontinental quality standards and not a one-off experience. The staff really hate to be bothered, particularly the front desk, the bar tender and the bellman. They have no time for basic courtesies like greeting you, refilling your drink, making a drink properly, refiling your glass with the same drink you ordered previously, helping you with your bags, helping you get a cab, etc. They did however, demonstrate an intense dedication to chatting amongst themselves, looking at their phones and marching off abruptly when approached. The hotel automatically applies gratuity to every transaction, so staff are not incentivized to put an effort in. Vaping is permitted in both the bar/restaurant and the lobby. Gross. The breakfast is meh. Standard continental breakfast fare ($60 per person). Perfectly adequate for a Marriott Courtyard not at all suitable for "luxury" hotel. There is a Dunkin just down the street if you find the coffee as intolerable as I did. To top it all off, there is a random charge on our credit card after checkout and the hotel can't identify what it is for. Waiting for a call back while they investigate. This is my first experience being duped by a hotel masquerading as a luxury establishment and I blame myself for not throughly reading the reviews. At ~$600 a night it is a small discount in price over truly exceptional locations, but the drop in value is precipitous.

If you're someone who could possibly be judged in a negative way based on what you're wearing or how you identify yourself, I wouldn't recommend booking with this branch of the intercontinental. Early check in was refused to me. They wouldn't let me pay for an early check in nor would they allow me to upgrade to a more expensive room in hopes of checking in early. Anthony the manager at his discretion declined my 2nd form of payment for the refundable deposit due to my name and card details not being present on the card. The card issuer does not put customers identity and card details on the card as a security measure. He refused to let me swipe the card and refused ito type in the card manually. The card has no chip, but he demanded a card with a chip. The staff including lance, Steven and Anthony himself were unhelpful. My reservation was booked and paid for, but the credit card I attempted to use for the on file deposit was not working. It wouldn't swipe or read the chip. After that I asked to provide an additional card in which he refused because the issuer didn't have the card details on the card as a security measure like with the Apple Card. I offered to go to the store and get a visa loadable debit card and again he declined and blocked me from attempting to buy one. Before I bought it I called the hotel and Anthony spoke to me on the phone and said that he would refuse it. He was refusing my booking based on simple mishaps that we could've worked together or came to a resolution to be solved. I've never been so disappointed by management in life until today. He handled and treated me like there was something nefarious going on.

Four star price for a three star hotel. Indifferent attitude from beginning to end. This hotel has a good outside and lobby, although small, but goes downhill fast. Rooms old, management completely indifferent and too busy to listen to anything. Couldn't get out of there fast enough. Put this hotel on your desperate for a room list.

When you arrive no one opens the door for you. You struggle in with suitcases and greeted by a long line of people. You're tired and thirsty. No one here cares.the rooms have paper thin walls. I could hear the guy in the room next to me sneeze! Second night the room next me was full of girls talking all night. A nightmare!

We enjoyed our stay at the Barclay last week. Truly one of the Grand Dames of New York Hotels. Our room was nicely appointed and clean. All of the staff were helpful and friendly. The Barclay has a great lobby and plenty of conference space. The bar and small dinning area behind the bar serve as the only dinning space for Breakfast and meals. Not really much of an issue however as there are plenty of dinning options within walking distance. Good location. Rockefeller Center, Grand Central Station, subways, Time Square are all within walking distance. The area around the hotel felt safe at all hours. As a bonus, a crew was filming an episode of the Equalizer on our floor. This was great to see and the crew was very professional and quiet - causing us no problems at all.

I really enjoyed my stay at the InterContinental New York Barclay last week. I was attending the Les Dames d' Escoffier Conference and there were a LOT of folks attending it and other conferences. The location can't be beat. You're within walking distance to Rockefeller Center, Grand Central Station, and many other tourist attractions. For those of us who are native New Yorkers (and try to avoid those areas at all costs), this hotel is near the train so you can get anywhere else in the city with minimal effort. There's a quaint bar and tons of meeting rooms for those interested in hosting conferences or events. The vibe is Prohibition Chic. The elevators are frustratingly slow when they are hosting conferences, so that's something to be prepared for. I would love it if the rooms had a full-length mirror that wasn't impeded by the bed, but they had a ton of complimentary items like a sewing kit that I desperately needed at the last minute. The front desk staff, especially Sharon, were so courteous and polite despite the madness of checking people in and out and addressing issues that arose. My air conditioning wasn't functioning properly for a period of 24 hours. After I requested it be checked, maintenance came up about 6 hours later and fixed it. I also found that my lock box wasn't operational (the lock was ejected making it impossible to reset the code) and my ironing board was leaning severely due a bent leg. Both issues were remedied within an hour of calling housekeeping or the front desk.

This is a nice corporate hotel- it's in a good part of town nearby shopping and restaurants! The rooms are nice and have some space which is a perk in NYC. The staff were all so kind and helpful. Came here for business and look forward to staying here again!

Good hotel but the resorts fees are a little high. Rooms are bigger then others but the breakfast selection is pretty average at $44 per person!

At a conference here, one day packed like sardines, the seats are small like at the theater or the airline. Second day had a/c turned up a lot, which was a cold time for many. The halls are carpeted and paintings (or reproductions?) of people from the 18/1900s lined the walls. They had a nice way of putting signs all over in lights and plastered on certain walls to advertise bigger meetings like ours. Bathroom was clean and the food was promptly served and promptly taken away at the specified times. They were focused on the clear away even as people were still eating... prompt I suppose. And when the coffee was out, they brought out another. They have plastic bottled water labeled with Barclays, one day they'll move to a greener solution hopefully.

Small room, design from 1788, no free water, broken elevator on entire west wing. Outside of the city, your 500$ will definitely get you a way better hotel. This probably worth 100 max

Looks like a fancy hotel but it was a lot of smoke and mirrors. The room paint was peeling in the bathroom with a whole section missing by the shower, the beds are full sized not queen and very tiny. We were traveling with our two kids and it was a tight fit. The fridge in the room doesn't have a lot of space if you need to store anything in it, 90% of it is taken up by the mini bar that charges you if you move anything. The drinks at the lobby bar are overpriced, boring, and frankly a waste of time. The bar snacks were better than the drinks. The location is ok, close to Grand Central Terminal and Saks Fifth but next time I'd rather stay closer to Central Park. Finally, the staff here is completely lackluster and could care less about their guests. When we checked in the receptionist was dull, the bartenders at the bar were less than engaged, and we used the "express check out" option via text so we didn't even have to engage with staff on the way out. Even the bell staff at the doors weren't courteous or helpful EVER. Heck, even the lady in Guest Relations was put off when I asked her a simple question. For petes sake she is in "guest relations". However, that was not even the worst part. The WORST part was that when we arrived in our room there was a letter letting us know that the hotel had tested positive for fecal bacteria and that should we start to feel sick during or after our stay we should notify the NY Dept of Health. Yes, they were "working on solutions" and "encouraged us to use hot water for bathing and brushing teeth" but to not even mention it when we checked in is just poor customer service. So do yourself a favor and don't stay here not matter how fancy it looks.

It was booked on IHG points. Got there late. Got a key card. Went to bed... next day room was made up.. then went to dinner. Returned to a letter under my door on the second night attached.... Ummmm ok, the manager on duty told me the procedure was for the letter to be in the room per housekeeping and that their were signs in the lobby letting guests know prior to check in maybe,,, no one mentioned anything. Housekeeping didn't slip the letter under my door later in the day... totally convenient that it was slipped under right as I'm about to hit the sack again on the second night... it mentioned I could cancel. Umm scramble late night for another hotel... The manager assured me everything was ok. The hotel has known this issue was going on since June 6 according to the attached article.. thanks for letting me know ahead of time right? Wrong! Ohhh and don't forget the "amenity fee" hidden in the fine print.. no one mentioned 39 dollar fee at all. It's not in the confirmation email at all people.. beware.... IHG couldn't do anything for me, loyalty doesn't mean anything to them, and the clerk I talked to was combatitive and sent me to the managers voice mail box... These are shady people and IHG is a lousy loyalty program. Go to Marriott. No hidden fees when you book...

Well, there goes Barclay... no longer my choice of hotel when visiting NY. I read some of the horrible experiences on Yelp and couldn't understand but it happened to me as well. InterContinental Barclay is not cheap but for the cost, you get a spacious lobby where you can lounge around when you crash before heading out to the airport and pretty good size rooms compared to other in city hotels that we didn't mind paying the extra $$. Our friend lives outside of the city so I booked our room through Chase rewards, specifically paid extra points/$$ for 2 beds so that he can stay in the city with us. I get to the front desk to check in and he nonchalantly said we are out but we can give you a rollaway bed for free. Ummm, excused me?! So am I suppose to be grateful that you are providing me "free" rollaway bed?! And he goes, we usually charge you for it and I'm literally bursting lava inside of my head. We had a long day and this was the cheery on top. Not knowing that there's other options as it's pretty late at night, I just took it... but asked that they waive the hotel free at the very least. We went upstairs and I called Chase rewards customer service and they added to this horrible experience that I have lost faith in Chase as well. They mentioned 2 things that really grinded my gear. So because I am only staying one night and I'm not a black card holder, my issue do not matter?! They basically told me that I would need to handle it with the hotel itself and ask for full refund or half refund in the morning. 30 minutes passed and still no rollaway bed that we called and after another 30 minutes, finally the staff broght it up. But here's the things. There was absolutely no room for the rollaway bed and we literally had to play Tetris moving the furniture around for it to fit. Front desk should have at least upgraded us so that we had enough space for this! Went to bed angry and during check out, the front desk did not waive my hotel fee so at this point I am livid. I went from 0 to 100 and asked to see the manager. Manager was "supposedly" busy addressing another customer that they asked me to come back and provided the waiver but do you actually expect someone that is checking out to come back?! So yeah, you will never see me again here. You would think you would be getting a better customer service at a place like this, but it's just the opposite. Also, what's with only ONE communal bathroom in the lobby?! Just horrible!

InterContinental New York Barclay Hotel Very bad experience and Staff with bad attitude. I rarely post reviews but the bad experience my family had, has made me post this review. Hopefully, people would see it and not get scammed by this property or the paid high rating they get through Priceline. We experienced a disappointing service throughout our whole stay. No one expects that when paying for a highly rated hotel with international high standards. (Take your money somewhere else where they will appreciate you as a guest) We arrived to our room after a long trip and I found the room is not cleaned since the last guest left. Of course, the staff acted surprised and they challenged me. After they confirmed, it is true, they apologized and changed the room to a better one as they claimed. (after wasting an hour) After that, I was assigned another room hoping I could enjoy my weekend but unfortunately the AC broke and started leaking in front of my room. (as you can see in the picture) instead of fixing it, they put a bucket. (Is this what they do in well respected hotel? I don't think so?) The room started smelling like mold which is a health hazard. Out of their generosity they again switched my room. I'm being sarcastic here because they kept repeating that the reason they could not serve me well because I booked through 3rd party (Priceline) with a condescending tone, it felt like they were giving me charity. Nothing was working in the room, and good luck finding someone to pick up the phone. I decided to demand what is agreed on in my stay. It took them 2 hours to replace a hair dryer. That is when I stopped asking for my amenities, because I'm probably asking for too much. (Having functioning machines in my room). In this hotel they charge amenities fees, which I don't mind at all if I'm getting my money's worth. However, they will charge you and provide no service whether you like it or not. Also, good luck with room service because either they won't pick up the call till you complain or never pick up. So I think they should just stop offering a service that they cannot support. My final observation for my fellow Arabs, I know we enjoy staying in nice places. However, they hate your guts here, they are racist. I overheard the staff talking about how stupid Arabs are and how they scam them out of their money. It was very disappointing to hear that. So my advice is to go somewhere else where they appreciate you as a guest. NYC has many other hotels with much better staff and service. I am shocked by the lack of service provided at this hotel and the condescending tone from the personnel. This is not what they claim (high standards the Intercontinental claims to uphold) PS. Not a 5-star hotel. I don't know who decides these ratings and who knows what qualifies. In short: Front desk: rude people with an attitude Housekeeping: no way to contact them directly. Leaving notes and 5 bucks still does not get more coffee pods Management: Very defensive when contacted Food service: Adequate, but of course pricey. But they have real problems with service for lunch and a bit at dinner. Must be the kitchen; can't blame the servers who are at the mercy of the kitchen and bartenders. Bar: Bartenders, a couple who don't give a shit about you. Bar Servers: Great! Young floor managers: Superb, nice young guys. Room: Okay, but no desk. Have to use the dining table. Inadequate placement of ports. Weird that they haven't realized people expect convenience when they travel - for computers, etc. Ambience: Very nice! Pleasant lobby and dining section. Is it worth it?: Only if you want more than a clean bed, shower, and WiFi. If that's all you need there are ten hotels nearby for less money.

Had an awful experience. People in room next door were partying all throughout the night. We called and complained multiple times and we're continuously ignored. I reached out to customer service after the trip as well to see what we can be done and it took multiple emails before getting a single response. No resolution has been found and I haven't received an e-mail back since my last e-mail request over a week ago. I travel all the time and this is by far the worst customer service that I have experienced at a hotel.

Bed bugs in room Room was clearly not cleaned, toilet was dirty upon entering the room, hair on sink, stains, it was disgusting. Was not informed at check-in that the water was contaminated even though the hotel knew this two weeks prior to my stay On the second day of the stay they sent a letter saying they knew the water was contaminated and were going to be treating the water as of then. This is something you should disclose to your guests prior to checking them in and let them decide how to proceed. Worse Intercontinental I have ever stayed at. I doubt they will remain an intercontinental in the coming year Need to shut down this hotel and do some serious cleaning.

There are a lot of things I like about this hotel and a lot of things I don't like about the hotel. let's start with what I don't like: 1. it's expensive for the limited amenities they have 2. The rooms are decent sized but small for the price point in my opinion. 3. they give you a $25 per day coupon but everything there is super expensive and essentially you end up spending more 4. their food service is limited and one of the days I was there it completely shut down. 5. if you wanna check out past noon it cost about $40 per hour 6. The rooms weren't as clean as expected, the carpets had significant stains on them. 7. you can ask for more towels and stuff but they definitely didn't provide enough upon arrival. 8. The complementary toothpaste is absolutely gross and doesn't have fluoride in it? why? 9. they absolutely will not let you sit at the bar and eat outside food even if you're gonna buy drinks. that's terrible. 10. The walls are thin and you can hear through them especially when babies are crying at night. yikes. what i like: 1. they do provide complementary umbrellas when it's raining. 2. it's very well located and walkable to most places 3. The lobby is big and beautiful and the hotel is big 4. black out curtains 5. really nice cleaning staff. 6. good plug in options and lighting. 7. while not being allowed to eat at the bar tables is annoying. They do have good drinks! (expensive though) 8. not too far from LaGuardia airport, 25 mins with minimal traffic 9. safe when i was there I would say this is a very average hotel for the price point. Maybe if it was a little cheaper I would give it a higher star rating but I expected more. Giving me $25 a day and then making everything basically above $25 kinda annoying, too is included in the check. Overall, it's not a bad hotel and if you get it for a decent price I would definitely stay here. It's a great location and it's safe to walk around in the area. There's also $.99 pizza nearby!

Horrible service, rooms weren't ready when we got here, they cancelled the rooms without our knowledge, horrible hospitality, blood was on the floor and by the lamp, AND water was dirty brown. They also told us they would take the alcohol out of all of the minors rooms and failed to do so.

This is in reference to their events/conference rooms. 1. I booked a conference room for 6 people and specifically asked for food to only be made for 6 people (we do not condone wasting food) and that was ignored. The minimum amount of food you can purchase is for ~10 people and we knew and accepted the fees. However, the request to not waste food was overlooked. 2. I had one vegan attendee and instead of the hotel having one meal that would be accommodated for my Exec, I had to pick 1 of the 2 entrees to be vegan. 3. The day of the meeting, we asked for a HDMI cord so we could connect our laptop to the TV [that was already mounted to the wall] to present a presentation. We also asked for a power cord so we could charge our laptop. What we were charged was highway robbery. [$840 for a TV rental, $28 for the HDMI cord, $49 for a AC cable and power strip, $245.00 for labor, an additional $205 for a "electrician" to set/strike, and a $328.08 administrative fee]. It was unprofessional and embarrassing that the hotel staff told one of my colleagues on three different occasions that there would be a fee. Jaime was the coordinator who assisted me. When I asked for her managers contact, I was given Margaret Yap's email. Margaret emailed me that there was a "misunderstanding" b/w menus and when I forwarded her my email exchange with Jaime, she never responded. When I brought up my dismay regarding the disgraceful amount charged for an HDMI cord, I let her know how embarrassed my colleague felt when her staff came in the conference room three times to remind him that there would be a fee instead of taking him outside to speak to privately. She never apologized or did anything to rectify the unpleasant experience. Her response was "I'll talk to encore". I book my execs to stay at this hotel often and will refrain from doing so in the future. This was my first and last time hosting a business meeting at InterContinental Barclay in NYC.

Had a wonderful time at my aesthetic meeting. Easy to get to, room was cute, the bar downstairs was lovely and fun. I didn't have to deal with long lines at check in or check out. Would stay again

My friends from the same school and I attended the alumni holiday celebration here. It was held for the entire schools from University of Rochester, not just Simon Business School. It was fun, huge and full with people I didn't know but glad to meet and talk to. Since the university is also known for their music school, we had a chance to see the music school alumni performed Jazz. That's pretty cool! The president of the university also came to this event and gave his speech. The event was held on the second floor in a huge ballroom. For this type of event the hotel catered us some hors d'oeuvres from dumpling corner on one side and pizza corner on the other side. The pizza corner was better than the other according to most people. There were two bar sections from both sides as well. Of course they didn't forget about the desserts. If you happen to do an event next, I think you could consider this hotel due to the size of the ballroom and its perfect location, close to Grand Central.

I am an IHG Spire Elite, one of the highest levels of loyalty anyone can demonstrate to your brand. Today is my first day here at the Intercontinental Barclay, and it is a pathetic experience so far. 1. Check in is chaotic with no organization and unduly long wait, even late in the evening with hardly any guests 2. The lady working at the reception was confused by the fact that I had done an online check-in that was offered in an IHG email. 3. She did not acknowledge my status nor bother to explain any of the amenities or features of the hotel, nor did she offer any of the benefits that are due to a Spire member upon check-in 4. When we exited the taxi, the bellman took possession of our bags, and gave us a ticket but didn't ask for my name. And neither the last at reception ask me for luggage ticket. When we arrived at the room, we started to wonder how will they know to bring our luggage to our room. After waiting 30 minutes for the luggage, I called downstairs and after sitting on the phone for 15 minutes, I was informed that the reception should have collected the ticket from me. 5. Further one hour wait for luggage, resulted in me calling twice more, then finally I demanded to speak to the manager and she finally endeavored to locate our luggage and have it delivered 6. To add insult to injury, the gentleman who brought our luggage to the room decided to lecture us on the procedures of the hotel related to luggage tickets. I firmly disposed of him with a reminder that I'm not the bellman or the receptionist, neither of whom performed their function of proper check in or proper handling of our luggage. 7. There not a bottle of water in the room, nor any welcome amenity, so we went out to buy water so we can make tea/coffee in the morning. I truly feel like I have checked into a truckstop motel, with poorly trained people with far more attitude than service skill. New York is well known for poor service but one expects the Intercontinental brand to at least make an effort.

Stayed here for two nights last week after getting a good rate on Hotel Tonight. Old school New York vibe, which I like. Lobby is beautiful and the bar is an excellent place to meet someone for an upscale drink and app. Room felt a little small and didn't have much of a view, which is pretty typical with older NYC hotels. For a business stay in midtown, it's a great spot.

Come to this so called Hotel and be robbed. Wedding band and engagement ring both stolen from our room by either staff or organized crime working with the staff. Management is irresponsible, security is non- existent. General manager "not able to come and discuss" Sent out a poor customer relations "Director" Gabriel Nogueira , who only limited himself to say that they have had actually filed a claim with their insurance..... so what is this?, a ring of thieves? Director of Security, Robert Jenks, talked over the phone yesterday, unable to appear today. We flew back to NYC just to file a police report of the stolen items. UNACCEPTABLE; AVOID THIS ESTABLISHMENT AND THEIR MANAGEMENT. POOR, VERY POOR MANAGEMENT SKILLS OVER ALL. And the best.... Your thieves will be the ones serving you. PLEASE, Plenty of Great, DECENT, Hotels in NYC, do not dare to stay here.

The only issue I had, is the sinks and the showers are CLOGGED, so even a few seconds in the shower will have your tub full.. and a few seconds with the faucet running will have the sink full. Other than that, your typical over priced food. Recommend their burgers, fries. Even their chicken (had no salt) I just didn't like their tomato basil at all. Their service is amazing. Their breakfast downstairs is buffet style, with different types of egg, charcuterie style buffet, bagels, bread, banana, apples, oatmeal, sausages bacon. 44 a person ... definitely not worth that much but hey... typical restaurant up charge.
