Beautiful building but not a library where I feel like I can browse or park myself in a comfy chair and read. Behind the main library building is a newer library that is even less friendly. There are locations for personal items. Anything to be on hand when one enters a library needs to be placed in clear tote bags, provided outside the entrance. Did not see many children in this children’s library.

I didn’t expected that kids library can be interesting like this! First of all, the building of this library is beautifully designed to merge the old building and the modern one. It holds countless academic literature on children's literacy and picture books not only in Japanese but almost any language. It also holds a casual books for kids' education so I can recommend going there with your kids.

Beautiful building from 1906 renovated recently by Tadao Ando. Free to visit and roam around. Great little canteen in the middle with a beautiful terrace

I was really surprised by how few books they had compared to the size of the building. There is a collection of books from around the world that were translated into Japanese in one room, and in a smaller room is a collection of picture books in their original language. We enjoyed browsing through the collection, but I don’t believe we would go again.
