"This elegant mall bridges glitzy Kalakaua Avenue and up-and-coming Kuhio Avenue. Its heart: a treehouse in an enormous Indian banyan tree. The tree was planted around 1850 and briefly owned by Queen Emma; at one point, one of its tree houses contained a radio station. A $500 million renovation overhauled the market place, a Waikīkī classic, in 2016. Now ten restaurants and 75 retail stores preside here, anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue—the first in Hawaii. While the International Market Place has lost its manic, Mad-Man -era, free-for-all vibe, it maintains quite a bit of character for a mall with touches like a three-story waterfall. Visit at sunset to catch traditionally dressed performers singing, dancing, blowing conches, and lighting the Lamakū Torch Tower."

The International Market Place in Waikīkī is such a fun and vibrant place to explore! There are tons of great shops—everything from well-known brands to unique local boutiques. The whole area has a really upbeat, welcoming vibe, and we felt very safe walking around, even in the evening. One of our favorite parts was the free hula shows. They added such a special, cultural touch to the experience and were a joy to watch. The open-air layout, tropical landscaping, and relaxed atmosphere make it more than just a shopping center—it’s a great place to hang out, grab a bite, and enjoy some local entertainment. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in Waikīkī!

International Market Place is a must-visit shopping destination in Waikiki, blending modern retail with Hawaiian heritage. The center is beautifully designed, featuring lush greenery, water features, and open-air walkways that make shopping here feel more like an experience than a routine errand. With over 90 stores, including high-end brands and locally owned shops, visitors can find everything from designer fashion to unique Hawaiian gifts. Beyond shopping, the Grand Lānai dining area offers a diverse selection of restaurants, ranging from casual eateries to upscale dining. Whether you're craving fresh seafood, Asian cuisine, or classic American dishes, the options are plentiful. The evening ambiance is particularly enjoyable, with soft lighting and occasional live entertainment adding to the charm. One of the highlights of International Market Place is its cultural programming, including hula performances and historical exhibits that celebrate Waikiki’s rich past. While parking can be pricey, the central location and walkability make it easy to access. Whether you're shopping, dining, or simply soaking in the atmosphere, this marketplace offers a memorable experience in the heart of Waikiki.

Google
May 2025 Semi outdoor style mall within the main Waikiki boulevard that hosts a wide range of intetnational and local brands. Arguably one of the busiests malls in the area frequented by both locals and tourists. It's distinctive draw are the natural trees growing within and the historical placards you can read that celebrates the Honolulu figures and cultures. They also have a general lanai area which holds a number of private and public performance shows regualrly. The mall in general is a bit dated.

A beautiful shopping mall in the heart of Honolulu! I loved the wide variety of stores, offering everything from high-end brands to local boutiques. The open-air design creates a refreshing and enjoyable shopping experience, and the entire space is very well maintained. Plenty of great dining options on-site, making it a perfect spot to shop, grab a meal, and soak in the island atmosphere. Definitely a must-visit in Honolulu!

This market is such a vibrant and memorable place—full of energy, street artists, and local charm. One of the highlights of my visit was meeting the kind old man near the Rolex store with the parrots. He took beautiful photos for us and let us enjoy time with his birds, creating a moment my mother and I will never forget. The picture he gave us is something we’ll always treasure. We both left Hawai’i feeling happy and grateful, carrying a piece of that joy with us. A truly special experience!

Nice mall with a good food hall. I think it's only worthy of 4 stars, but some of the decorations reminds me of _____ very special to me, so it's 5 stars. 😃🙏🫶

Yelp
Nice spot off the avenue to cool off from the heat. Expected tents of vendors but it is a present day shopping retail mall. Interesting mix of major brands and local shops. Tasty finds in the food court. Highlights to see: Giant indoor outdoor banyan tree enveloping a tree house. Cat cafe was too cute!

Yelp
International Market is a good sized shopping mall that has a variety of shopping, food, and events going on at this establishment. Theres two sides to this mall. One side you're entering in from Kuhio, and if you go through the mall, which is in a bit of a slant, takes you directly to the street that Waikiki beach is on, just a few blocks left from the exit and you're there. There's lots of name brand shops that can be found here, and some decent eating spots o. The first, and third floors of this mall. The second floor is mostly shopping and shops, while floor 1 is a mixture of them depending on which side you're on. But the third floor is dedicated to eateries. Target is also here, so for those who need to shop got amenities and basics, this is a good spot around the corner. I would recommend dropping by here if you're not sure what to do, or just feel like a nice lazy day. It's definitely no Alo Moana, but it's far less crowded, and offers a variety of things of their own.

Yelp
The International Market Place is an outdoor mall that houses a variety of retail shops and restaurants - I was pleasantly surprised to find a Mitsuwa, Balenciaga, Liliha Bakery, and a Vince store! The place itself is multi-level, and the greenery and the floral arrangements decorate the place well. The elevators, however, are a little slower to run and small in space; the garage, in which you can also get validation from restaurants and such, have sharp turns - just be cautious of drivers with large vehicles who are unable to operate their car appropriately. +tight corners in garage +slow elevators

Yelp
This is a nice little mall in Waikiki Beach. There is metered street parking and commercial garages available within a reasonable walking distance. The Mall dates back to 1956. It was reopened in 2016 after a 3-year hiatus for renovations. It boasts being home to about 200 stores, is three levels and is 345,000 square feet. This is an open air mall and has lots of comfortable seating placed around, including a patio area with seating on the second level. There are couches, rocking chair and lounges on the first level. You will also find a staffed information desk on the first level, as well as the Market's food court. The food court is heavy on bars and also has a barbecue joint, and a burger joint. I really like the food court and have frequently ate at the restaurants there. The Mall's anchor is Target. A few of the other stores include: Lids, Abercrombie and Fitch, Pandora, Telsa, Sunglass Hut, Vans, Shoe Place, Pandora, Hollister, Foot Locker, Avis, Budget, and ABC stores. There is also an ice cream shop, a market, a night club, a magic show, and toy store here too. I did not see much security walking around, but I also did not see a need for secuity while I was at the Marketplace. The Marketplace is very clean and has a nature like feel to it. I really like the trees (especially the 100+ year old Banyan tree), landscaping and water feature that runs down to the main level. There are a few statues in the mall, as well as a green space area, known as the Queen's Court, where they hold events such as Queens Waikiki Luʻau and free Lei-making Workshop. I recommend checking this place out while you are in Waikiki. There is something for everyone here.

Yelp
A must visit when staying in Waikiki, Honolulu area. A plethora of shops and restaurants and live shows/music as well. You can find exclusive brands here, buy a Tesla, shop at the Mitsuwa marketplace for some international treats, enjoy some Honolulu cookie company cookies, have a halo halo at Magnolia Ice cream and treats, pet a cat at the cat cafe, have a meal or dessert at Liliha bakery and many many more. Parking available and 3 floors of great shops to enjoy. The information booth is helpful and provides great service. Also plenty of photo op spots here with the huge banyan trees.

Yelp
It's inevitable that this historic/iconic location and marketplace would go super commercial from what it once was. But honestly, I'm not complaining. I think they've done a great job with the place, adding three floors of shopping & dining real estate, while connecting Kuhio & Kalakaua Avenues. I think the place is beautiful! I LOVE how they kept the original banyan trees and that there is a historic section on the 2nd floor, paying tribute to the history and people. I LOVE that there are many sitting areas to get comfortable and enjoy, like the shaded rocking chairs on the 2nd floor overlooking central stage or the covered "cabana-like" seating on the 3rd floor. Overall, I enjoy going to International Marketplace when in Waikiki. For those who miss the old one, you can find the old vendor carts on Dukes Lane. It's called, Duke's Marketplace. You can haggle them and negotiate your price.

Yelp
International Market Place Waikiki Hawaii Service: The international Market Place is a huge complex with a wide range of department stores, novelty shop and a variety of restaurants... something for everyone in the family. Selection: You can shop designer stores or local mom & pop shops all under one roof. The restaurants are throughout, fast food to sit down establishments. Value: This is Hawaii... certain items can be pricey compared to the mainland.

Yelp
When they first changed the International Market Place I have to be honest I wasn't a fan. I just preferred the older one better. It had so much character, all the little stands and the food court, it was so cool. It was like a giant swap meet, loved it. There is still one row of stands by the alley. I didn't come to this one for a while but did start checking it out my last couple of visits. It's not bad, it's got some nice shops but I still prefer the old one. It is quite touristy and most things are very pricey.........

Yelp
Visited this place because it was right across the street from the Outrigger Waikiki that we were staying at during Christmas holiday. Lots of very attractive but pricey restaurants and stores, also makes for great picture taking with a lot of Hawaiian photo apps.

Yelp
Great pass through space from one area of town to another. I went through it a dozen or so times. Lots of typical mall type places. I got a new hat at Lids. They printed a scuba flag on the front. They offer a luau frequently. Rental car options. Food court. I really enjoyed the Hawaiian banyan tree on one end. There was a duck family living there, which I enjoyed watching each visit.

Yelp
Impressive! Quite impressive actually! What a nice little open-air mall to walk through. It reminded me of some of the large outdoor shopping malls (or plazas) in SoCal, in both L.A. and Orange County. They have your typical high-end designer stores that I don't really care about anymore; Down to your small, not so cheap anymore, convenient store like ABC. And a mix of different stores. I believe one of their anchor stores is Mitsuwa, but to me they are their own adventurous market. There's lots to shop for, or eat at inside there as well. For food and dining, you have the options of something quick at the food court. In which I noticed a wide variety of options to choose from. Everything from burritos, to Greek, to hoagie sandwiches, to pizza, coffee, beer, etc. Or you have the higher end restaurants at the top floor! We actually ate at the Eating House 1849 (review pending) and picked up yummy pastries from Liliha Bakery. We Uber'd here, so i cannot really comment about parking. But really, it's pretty walkable from your hotel or from the beach I'd say. To me, the highlight was seeing the old historical banyan tree and the little tree house. This tree was massive and simply classic. A tree that has seen it all, loved it. Again, I'm all about the walking aspect of the place. You'll easily add 5,000+ steps just walking and taking the escalators up ever floor.

Yelp
Car is in the shop...so I am trying to kill time, and play tourist in Waikiki. Target is still pending...new shops have invariably popped up. Visited Kona Coffee Purveyors and Mituswa Marketplace: the former bustling, as per usual, while the latter was kinda empty as it was before 1100.

Yelp
We took a family trip to Waikiki a few weeks back, and we wanted to get out of the hotel without loading every man, woman, and child into our rental minivan. We ended up taking a walk to the International Market Place, which I believe was once an outdoor market geared towards tourists but is now an upscale mall. It was a nice open-air mall with dozens of shops and restaurants across a few floors. We were just there for a stroll and it was a pleasant place to walk around, breezy and clean and safe for the kids. The shopping ranged from Billabong to Balenciaga, with a lot of pretty high-end stores. We wandered into the Vilebrequin to look at swimsuits, and I was surprised to learn that men's swim trunks could cost over $300. We wanted a drink and thought we might find a good spot for cocktails with a view on the third floor. There were indeed several restaurants there, but they all looked like mall joints without any particular scenery. We ended up going to the Tipsy Tiki in the Kuhio Food Hall on the first floor. This was a casual food court situation, nothing special, but easy and enjoyable, and I did like that bar. My husband needed a snack and got some mediocre barbecue at one of the other stalls. I don't know that the International Market Place is a must see when visiting Honolulu, but it's there if you need things to do in Waikiki. You can shop, eat, and drink here in between trips to the beach.

Yelp
Very accessible, diverse grocery mart. Found a lot of interesting items here and the staff was super friendly! We saw a lot of solid deals and good everyday value. Selection had a lot of your go-to items as well as some new fun finds! Would definitely go back!

Yelp
Great place to browse and shop and centrally located in Waikiki. We loved how it was very open with trees and landscaping. We also ate here one night and the food was great in the food court area. Lots of higher end shops along with lesser expensive shops. Love that!

Yelp
Beautiful shopping experience in the heart of Waikiki District. Plenty of shade, tropical atmosphere, and luxury boutiques galore. Gorgeous people everywhere, and the entire plaza is immaculately clean. A very safe, upscale experience. Also beautiful natural spaces with big trees and a nice waterfall. Parking is paid garage, and the plaza is walking distance to hotels and the beach . I walked here from my hotel only 6 minutes. Plenty of restaurants just steps away .

Yelp
The last time I was on Oahu was February of 2013. The International Market Place was a fun, low key place to hang out in! Things felt moderately affordable and there were a lot of fun options. Fast forward a decade later or so, and things have changed in a huge way. In my opinion, not necessarily for the better. They apparently tore the old place down and rebuilt a big, shiny new mall like complex. Bah. What a disappointment. There were a handful of interesting stores to window shop at, but things were just so insanely over the top expensive in most outlets. In the previous version of the International Market Place, we would just bounce around from store to store buying things. It was a lot of fun! They do have a very good food court area downstairs. We ended up enjoying a very good meal here, Otherwise, it was just another overpriced, glossy tourist trap. Grab a bite and take a look around, but don't waste too much time here. 2 stars.

Yelp
It been awhile since I came here, even though I live here all my life. This place was famous for its shop, but most notably the banyan trees. I saw the stage where they performed and all the retail stores, along with the restaurants. It's conveniently located in the heart of Waikiki... I remember the old times when street vendors would sell their merchandise on the side, attracting tourists... that was the old days... anyway it brings back good memories...
google avatar

Yelp
I love the preservation of the Banyan tree and the walkdown memory lane. They preserve in the reconstruction. Beautiful layout with exciting stores. We found this little boutique... It's called vibration. Unique for Hawaii this international designer curated some fabulous prints. We bought a few pieces... Button-down and shorts for my husband. He loves him, comfortable and chic. Definitely a must see.

Yelp
While walking on the strip we were told to venture over here to see the stores and eat. We walked around since it was early there were a few stores not open like Christian Louboutin. It is a plethora of stores and a lot to see so be prepared to walk. The top level is the place to be. There are several restaurants for all types. They have a sports bar that does karaoke, a fine dining place and a few for families. We choose a different place each night.

Yelp
Mitsuwa Market I think on the second floor towards Kalakaua or mountain side across Magnolia ice cream parlor not to my knowledge they opened a cozy mini food court, there's Taiga Ramen, Yakitori, Seafood- uni sea ur him and ikura-caviar rice bowls., bentos drinks Japanese ice cream and frozen food. We had their Miso ramen just before closing (8pm) and another stall yakitori! We ate quickly as possible it the markets was so packed with locals and tourists as well! We already had bento at another locale but I wanted to ramen do hubby and I share it! Yakitori we took it home to continue eating today! I thought I had photos I'll share another day on my review for the yakitori stall

Yelp
The International Market Place in Waikiki is a true gem for both locals and tourists alike. Nestled in the heart of Honolulu's bustling beachfront area, this shopping center offers a unique blend of history, culture, and modern retail therapy. Walking into the International Market Place, you're immediately transported to a tropical paradise. The open-air design, complete with lush landscaping and a stunning banyan tree at its heart, provides a refreshing and serene shopping experience. The ambiance is a delightful fusion of nature and contemporary design, making it more than just a place to shop but an escape into tranquility. The variety of stores is impressive, catering to all tastes and budgets. From luxury brands to local Hawaiian boutiques, there's something for everyone. But what truly sets the International Market Place apart is its commitment to celebrating Hawaiian culture. From live music to traditional hula performances, these events add a layer of cultural richness to the shopping experience. In conclusion, the International Market Place is not just a shopping destination; it's a vibrant cultural hub that offers a slice of Hawaiian paradise in the midst of Waikiki's hustle and bustle. Yelp
Great place for shops/eats/coffee/drinks etc. We came here maybe 3x on both our 2022 and 2023 visits to Hon. Wife told me it used to look different and be more jungle like but built shops all around and way more shops now than when she went in the 80s-2000s. Nice shops and place to check out when in Honolulu. Only problem is they close restrooms early in the evening.

Yelp
Car Rental Return location for Budget/Avis: Return card on the 5th floor and check-in on the 1st floor desk. Rented a car through Costco.com Travel and selected this return location since it was close to the Courtyard Marriott, where we were staying. Don Ho Statue: We stopped to take our picture and read the placard. He was an Hawaii icon back in the day. Keane Eyes Gallery: Excellent information shared with us by the gentleman working in the Gallery this week. We recently watched Big Eyes movie on Netflix and he filled in gaps and answered questions we had. Mitsuwa Marketplace: Always love shopping for cosmetics and snacks here. Lots of Kawaii and Hello Kitty goodies too. Toys & Games Store is a fun place to browse and shop for the kiddos. They will definitely find something they like in here! Harry Potter shelves are filled with puzzles and games and other things Harry Potter fans will enjoy. Honolulu Cookie Company: Stopped in here for our free samples and purchased cute pineapple shaped plastic containers with three cookies for $5.95. The staff in all the HCC are always welcoming and helpful. Overall, there are many shops and restaurants to enjoy in the Market Place. There are also some great places for photo opportunities.

Yelp
International Market Place is one of the many malls in the Waikiki area. It is an open-air mall with over 100 restaurants, bars, and shops. There are three levels so there's a store to browse for everyone. Some stores of note are Mitsuwa Marketplace, Honolulu Cookie Company for free samples, and Kuhio Ave Food Hall for a variety of food stalls. If you are visiting Waikiki you'll most likely find yourself spending some time in or around this mall.

Yelp

Yelp
The name is deceiving and its shops are not what I imagined. It's another mall with high end retailers. This is one of about 3 malls linked together by hallways. Not necessarily a tourist locale, unless you're looking to buy designer labels. We weren't - butwe did stop at the Pandora store for some Hawaii related charms. But the walk was nice.

Yelp
I've visited the International Market a few times, and I appreciated the space. The standout feature for me was their cat cafe. While the service and selection is irrelevant, you definitely get good value here. Update: Receiving a comment from the staff was a delightful surprise, demonstrating their commitment to excellent service and genuine interest in our opinions.

Yelp
One of my fondest childhood memories of Honolulu was walking to the International Market Place amid the jungle-like setting and getting a double scoop of blueberry freckle ice cream on a sugar cone. It was quite the treat back then. Since it had been decades since my last visit to Oahu, I wanted to show Jamie W. where I used to hang out. Gee, I had no idea what happened to the space. All of its rustic charm has evaporated. With the kitschy kiosks full of Hawaiiana, I really loved the flea market-meets-Gilligan's Island vibe it had back during the Carter administration, but apparently it had become rundown in the intervening years. So much so that a decade ago, they razed the original marketplace except for the huge banyan tree in the middle. Next to the tree is a statue of the late Don Ho who headlined at the market way back (photo: https://bit.ly/3IONGOz). Otherwise, it has turned into a three-level, 80,000-square-foot retail complex interchangeable with every other overpriced shopping complex in Waikiki. The previous anchor, Saks Fifth Avenue, lost out to the pandemic and has given way to a Target, and Magnolia Treats sadly doesn't serve blueberry freckle ice cream. RELATED - Exploring Hawaii? Here's a collection of places I've visited and reviewed: https://bit.ly/3Kz5ksc

Yelp
I'm on the fence, I remember when this used to be a huge sized flea market, bazaar, farmers market. It was where you met lots of small time businesses and also many local craftsmen. Kids helped moms, families sold necessities and tourist items. You could get tshirt, cheap woven beach mat or some local oil. It was noisy, messy, gritty and fun. Now it has upscale beautiful shops: Rolex, Michael Kors, art galleries, high end jewelry. Still I love the local music, food, laughter and the tropical gardens. The Eating House 1849 has chef Roy Yamaguchi and locally sourced food, a nod to local vibe and heritage. This huge place employs many people- I was glad to see that AND the Banyan Tree lives on... the lanai is gorgeous. This marketplace is supporting local non-profits and one of my favorite places - the Waikiki Aquarium.

Yelp
Decent mall with outdoor sidewalks and patios to get to shops with a giant tree in the middle of the mall with a ton of birds. Easy access to walk to from Waikiki or to take a trolley or bus. They have a couple places with giant letters spelling out "aloha" or "Waikiki" for photo ops.

Yelp
Vans store at International Market Place Customer Service Experience Tyler deserves 5 stars for her professionalism and assistance. Back in June, I was on vacation and decided to get myself and my teenage son some Van shoes whioe visiting International Market Place. We decided to check out Vans store #556. We were greeted by Tyler, the representative, who helped us choose a pair of shoes each. A few hours later, my son noticed one of his shoes seemed much bigger, even though both sneakers were labeled the correct size. I called the Vans store and spoke with Tyler again. She suggested bringing the shoes back for her to check out. When we arrived, we explained that my son hadn't noticed the sneaker size difference while trying them on in the store since he hadn't walked much in them. Tyler examined the shoes and confirmed that, despite both being labeled size 13, they were indeed different sizes. She checked in the back and brought out another pair in the same style, White Classic Slip-On, and made sure my son was happy with the fit. The new pair fit correctly, and he was happy with them. -Mahalo.

Yelp
Even if you don't like malls, come here for the free cookie sample at Honolulu Cookie Company, the Kuhio Food Hall, and the ALOHA photo op. If you do like malls, they have almost 100 stores, including Anthropologie, Banana Republic, Billabong, Brunello Cucinelli, Burburry, Christian Louboutin, Foot Locker, Free People, Hollister, Hurley, Kona Coffee, Pandora, Rolex, Sunglass Hut, Tesla, Vans, about 40 ABC Stores, and Harley Davidson, the only hog they didn't cook underground.

I was expecting this place to have a lot more. I must have not seen the entirety of it because all I saw was a few floors of stores that were completely empty. There were some food spots, but there were also not a lot of people on those either. I didn't find any food or stores that really stood out to me. It seemed like a lot of upscale clothing and merch. I did pass by here quickly so maybe I will stop by another time and take the time to thoroughly check it out.

Yelp
We came here a few years ago and finally managed to return to Honolulu again. We always like coming to the international market place and it was one of the first places we thought of returning to. The moment i walked in, i was wowed by the newer huge and impressive banyan tree! Not sure why others don't like it. It was so beautiful it reminded me of being at a theme park. There's a lot of different shopping and food options here but we just wish we had more time to shop and eat so we could go thru the entire place! Also lots of nice photo ops here. Although there doesn't seem to be a direct number to call the visitor info center, they now have a text option and I got in touch with Noah! Noah was amazing and quick to answer almost immediately and answered all my questions to make things so easy for me. Just a heads up that if you are from out of state, you can get a booklet with discounts to many of the places here. And if you spend $50 at the international market place, you can choose from one of two free travel items! It's especially easy to do if you plan to have lunch/dinner here. So save your spending for here so you can get your travel item! The next time we are in Honolulu, we look forward to coming again!

Yelp
Not so much the businesses, but the parking structure at fault. So many stores and restaurants lure you into a false sense of security. Make sure you eat or shop and leave immediately thereafter. This is not the place to lounge or enjoy the live music. Make sure you get your parking validated as soon as possible if not, you have to make at least a $25 purchase to get validated, then the validation is still high in cost. Again, like so many things in Hawaii, so many places price themselves right out of existence. Prices are already high but when you factor in parking, it's cheaper to stay home. International Market Place (Parking), you suck. /////Edit after response from "Customer Service".///// They never addressed my comment regarding lounging on property, visiting stores or enjoying the live entertainment. What they did address is that people park in the structure and don't patronize the businesses. While that may be true for some, as a local (resident) person (non visitor) so many places forget that when the "visitors" stop coming or when business inevitably slows down, those businesses immediately start asking for "locals" to come to Waikiki and enjoy all that it offers. Asking that you spend a minimum of $25 is in my opinion "aggressive" and unreasonable. My family and I enjoy the atmosphere, the food hall, ice cream and just walking around browsing the shops and stores. Now that it's "MANDATORY" that you "patronize" a business on property for no less than $25 or you will be hit with excessive parking fees makes this location less desirable and geared specifically to "non-residents or visitors". Question: What if I spent $8 for ice cream, $6 for bottle water, $18 for a burger (ALL DIFFERENT LOCATIONS) on property businesses. That's a total $32, however on three different receipts. I would meet the $25 validation threshold; BUT on three different receipts. Would my ticketed be validated and if so by what business? At the end of the day, International Marketplace is a business just like the other place in Waikiki. No reason for local people to shop or park there as obviously this place isn't geared towards or for you unless you're willing to spend the "MANDATORY FEE" for parking. Aloha and good day customer service, I SAID GOOD DAY SIR!
