Midwestern Shoppers Drive Hundreds of Miles for Ethnic Grocery Stores | Eater

"A multicultural shopping center created through local immigrant-led development efforts that houses roughly 18 small businesses—grocers, tailors, gift shops, and restaurants—and rapidly became a regional gathering place. The plaza showcases cultural artwork celebrating market scenes and immigrant women; after a white supremacist group vandalized the murals, the community raised nearly $20,000 to replace them with new art emphasizing unity. The center provides vital economic space for entrepreneurs and draws shoppers from across the state seeking ingredients and services not available elsewhere." - Trisha Gopal

We really enjoyed our visit to International Market Place. The CocoNene store was a highlight, showcasing many local artists and their work. At Vibrations, we had a great conversation with the designer and owner. There was also a monthly gift available for purchase—Jon at customer service even gave us a Lucky Cat Tiki mug. Overall, it was a wonderful experience!

Amazing place to visit! I met one of the security guards, Sterling, and he was incredibly helpful, pointing out great places to visit and eat. He’s very friendly and attentive. Thanks so much for your help, Sterling

Great mall and shopping spot! It was very close to our hotel, so we often walked through it to get to other parts of Honolulu. You can eat, shop, and people-watch here—it’s wonderful. Be sure to check out the locally produced chocolates at Hoku, Koa wood items, and the Honolulu Cookie Company location.

I had the opportunity to attend Don Ho’s 95th birthday lei draping ceremony—a truly beautiful experience. It was a pleasure meeting Dwight Ho afterward and hearing him speak about his father; he kindly let me shake his hand and take a picture with him. I also enjoyed the music afterward, with many talented musicians celebrating Mr. Hawaii. A big mahalo to everyone responsible for this event. Disserae, Stevie, Malia, and Noah—you did an incredible job. Everyone made me feel so welcome. It was an inspiring evening. Mahalo nui loa to all!

Azteca Tacos is delicious with great service!!! It looks like it's just a supermarket, but there are restaurants inside too.

Unique shopping experience. Gifts not found anywhere else. Reasonable prices. Many friendly shop clerks at various shops with different merchandise. A mini international mall.

Its so refreshing to see stores owned by new Americans that are filled with items that you cannot get anywhere else in town. The people are friendly and the market is a great place to just hang out and get to know people. I love it when there are events at the market!

A great selection of Mediterranean food items for the Fargo area beyond the typical Asian and sub-Saharan orientation of the other ethnic food outlets in the area. At last I could get my grape leaves, tahini, olives, bulgur wheat, and even goat meat. The prices are really good I'll be back.
