In a 1908 Texas Electric Railway depot, this free museum pairs hands-on electricity exhibits with Plano rail history and a restored railcar. Operated with the Plano Conservancy and highlighted by Visit Plano, it’s a quick, rich stop steps from Haggard Park.

Finally went inside after a few attempts where it was closed. Nice museum for a local visit. We toured the train car too! Suggested donation is 1$ per kiddo and 2$ per adult.

My youngest son loves trains and he saw this on the map when we were looking for places to visit in Plano. The excitement on his face when we walked was amazing. Also its free and you can leave a donation if you want to purchase books and item. A most definitely visit...

Brilliant museum, free but worth to pay a visit. Small but full of knowledge and experimentation. The front desk is nice and warm welcoming. My son really like here😃

Google
Quick place to visit and spend time for about an hour. Informative and interesting for kids and adult as well. You will also see an old railway car and see the inside of it. There are cool electric projects on display too. Better to have few $ for donations. Place is kept clean and organized. Parking can be done in the DART parking lot or across the street.

We had such a great time visiting here. This building is historic to Plano and was built in 1908! The people working here were so fun and knowledgeable about the site and everything to do with trains. Even though the building is small, it felt like a full on museum experience with all the information and interactive stations they offered. We learned so much! Seeing the items that were used back in the early 1900's really made me feel in awe of how hard working people were back then and didn't even know it! We have come such a long way, technology wise, in the last hundred years it's almost unbelievable. Thank you for offering this to everyone!

Our museum visit today was nothing short of amazing! The moment we walked in, we were greeted by our guide, an incredibly knowledgeable and warm-hearted Iranian lady named Farangis. Her passion for history truly brought the history of rail road in Texas to life! She filled us in on fascinating details, answering every question we had with enthusiasm and depth. Her kindness and engaging storytelling made the entire experience unforgettable. We left feeling inspired and with a newfound appreciation for this important chapter of Texas history. Highly recommend this tour!

Story time is a really fun experience for the children, the tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. He is passionate about history. This is a place you must visit if you live nearby. There’s nothing else like this. It’s very unique.

Google
I've been wanting to visit this place for a long time, and finally did today. The young man giving the tour was very knowledgeable. When he showed us inside the old Interurban car something began to click in my mind. I had a distant uncle who worked for the Interurban in Van Alstyne. The tour guide kept saying that this was a restored car, and it was the last car ever on the tracks. I pulled up a picture of my uncle on the family search app, and to my surprise he was standing in front of the exact same car that's at the museum! I showed the picture to the museum director, and he asked for a copy of it, so I emailed it to him.

Yelp
Stopped here while visiting the area, not expecting much. But it exceeded my expectations and was very interesting overall! Jacquez was extremely knowledgeable and gave us so many cool facts. I definitely recommend stopping by this place!

Yelp
Very enthusiastic and welcoming! We visited with our extended family and our guide was engaging and knowledgeable. There is a front room where there were hands-on displays that all our kids enjoyed (ages 4-13). Then there's the museum portion and a tour of the rail car. They even assembled activity bags for our kids to take. Highly recommended!

Yelp
What a hidden gem inside of the park! We have been to the park many times and never knew this was a museum. Super friendly staff and knowledgeable. Very good with kids. Great part of history!

Yelp
Dear Terry and Herold. Welcome to my Dream. You are both so helpful and informed. Glad to have you along. https://gaiasophiaofearth.wordpress.com/2021/12/02/plano-maior-its-fun-to-watch-the-creative-process/

Yelp
This place was super fun. I went on a Friday and joined in for toddlers story time. Of course my 2y was the only one misbehaving and not interested. I still had fun. There a large model train set and lots of things to press buttons that make noise and or turn lights on. We got to go inside and old train that's right outside the building. Also we're giving a pencil and a coloring book, all for free. Not that far afterwards we went to the playground.

Yelp
Interesting place with a lot of history. While not a large museum, I could spend hours in here cause I'm a curious person. Each individual exhibit has something to teach you if you have the time. Electricity items were really neat and fun. We were in and out in 45 minutes so I only got the highlights. Not my idea of visiting a museum. The docents were very knowledgeable and I enjoyed talking to them. The interurbban railway car was cool. Imagine old school DART. Hope you're not in a hurry. In the area? Check it out.

Yelp
We had a wonderful time and our 2.5 year-old loved the experiments and getting to go on an old train. The gentlemen that work there are super knowledgeable and such a wealth of information. They were great with our child, too. At the end of our tour, our child even got a gift bag, which included a paper train to assemble and coloring book with crayons. This is a free museum but donations are accepted - definitely throw in a few dollars if you're stopping by.

Yelp
We loved our visit to this charming little museum! We came on a sunny Saturday afternoon and we were immediately greeted by a very friendly docent, who offered to give us a tour of the place. He started with the train car located outside, which was a great trip to the past. We got to see how back of the car was reserved for the post office, and how segregation affected the set-up of the train car. It was so great to walk through that old car while listening to the guide tell us all about its history of traveling all around the DFW area (even down into Waco!) After the tour of the train car, we went back into the museum to explore. It was a wealth of information, with plenty of awesome hands-on exhibits that are great for kids and adults alike. You can see how electricity for the trains is created, learn all about it first hand! My boyfriend said he actually found this little museum more interesting and informative than the Perot! On our way out, we left $5 in the donation jar, even though the museum is free. There's a $2 suggested donation per person, but they don't demand it at all. We simply felt that, after we spent so long there enjoying ourselves, we wanted to contribute!

Yelp
This railway museum is free, cute, and small. It is well-maintained and gives you the history behind the local railways in a fun and interactive way. Nice spot for a quick visit.

Yelp
What a great way to spend as an afternoon with the kids. The museum is located next to Haggard Park so you can go see and learn some pretty neat history, and then enjoy the park and the great downtown area. The museum itself is wonderful. We were able to tour and get on the actual train and then head inside and tour the actual museum. My kids enjoyed the model train. We will be back for story time on Fridays. The folks working there were awesome as well, very informative and friendly. Looking forward to our return.

Yelp
Excellent museum. Well organized and up to date. My 11 year old granddaughter really enjoyed the interactive exhibits on electricity.

Yelp
This museum is an interesting counter-point to the DART station next door. We had interurban transportation as far north as Sherman (the old rail line was close to home) and then we got rid of it.

Natasha S.

Yelp
Very cool and very free! A well maintained, informative, quick train museum. My little guy liked the interactive parts and I liked the detail provided. The staff was incredibly kind and they will give you a tour of the trolley if you ask nicely. Kids story time on Friday, apparently. Definitely check it out, young and old, while wandering old Plano but don't forget the donation...it's free and I'm happy to keep it that way so donate.

Yelp
Nothing great, but good to look at the history. Was in town in DFW, Plano, and Frisco areas. Stopped by and the place was good, but a little boring; not much of a "museum".

Yelp
Nice way to spend an hour or so with kids if you are in the area. There is a lot to learn about the history of Plano and the Interurbans. Suggested donation is $2 for adults and $1 for kids. The folks are all really nice and toured my 2 boys as if they were a full field trip. There is a park next to it, and parking is free.

Yelp
Nice little museum about Plano's historic trainstation. Inside the museum (old ticket station), you'll see how the train helped the early settlers of Plano. Outside, you get to climb aboard the old surviving car, and take a tour. The museum is located in historic Haggard Park.
