Ion City (Reykjavik, Iceland) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"This design-led hotel, with its subtle Icelandic decorative motif, is located in the heart of the liveliest part of the city, so you’ll feel as though you’re in the thick of the action. It’s well worth upgrading to one of the suites as they have their own in-room saunas and boast city views. Middle Eastern and North African flavors are to the fore at the friendly and fun Sümac brasserie, which is run independently of the hotel." - Tablet Hotels

This hotel was fab. Little tricky to find but once here very posh! We had a superior junior room with a sauna on the balcony. Such a lovely way to spend an hour in between day trips|You have one large sliding door so view is gorgeous no need to close curtain and it’s so private. Shower lovely too. All good would definitely recommend.

Was such a lovely boutique hotel. It’s tucked to the side so takes an extra pair of eyes to find. Lovely receptionists very welcoming. Our room was cleaned everyday and was nice and hygienic throughout. Comments saying it’s too loud however I think need to remember it’s in a busy city area of course it will be, once we closed the window it was totally fine and we had no issues. We liked the busy feel. It’s in a great location and we got Sandholt bakery every morning just down the road. Would defo stay there again! Felt so safe which is key!

This was the third time we have stayed at Ion City Hotel & it never fails to impress! Located on Laugavegur, you will be mere steps from everything! The customer service here is outstanding. Everyone is so friendly warm and welcoming, especially Yingying, who is fantastic! Our favorite room is the Junior Suite, which not only has gorgeous views of the mountains, but also offers a private sauna on the balcony. I have seen other reviews complaining of the noise at night, but we have never found it to be a problem and I am a very light sleeper. The room was sparkling clean, the beds were plush and cozy and the shower is just amazing! We've already got our next stay here booked! Highly recommend.

Small, modern, clean hotel in the center of Reykjavik steps away from bakeries, restaurants, shops and mini markets. The room are small but well equipped with great use of space. Very nice products in the bathroom. The prices are high but everything in Reykjavik is expensive. The best hotel asset is its front desk personnel. Thank you to Virgina, Ying Ying and Bart for their impeccable service. They helped us with reservations and tour and taxi bookings, provided suggestions and tips for what to do, see and where to find the best bakeries and offered a welcoming smile every time. Good job!

A very good experience, the hotel has a sense of design, is exquisite and clean. The front desk staff are very welcoming and friendly. In particular, the Chinese lady at the front desk was patient and polite, spoke Mandarin very well, and helped us solve many problems. I would like to express my special thanks to her. The bedding is also very comfortable. It can be said to be the best among the many hotels we have stayed in during our trip to Northern Europe. Highly recommend this hotel

We had an overall disappointing stay at ion city, despite high hopes and price tag. Arrival was fairly easy although the entrance is very tucked away, luckily our taxi driver pointed us in the right direction (be aware that the street is pedestrian and cycles only). We received a welcome drink which was nice, but that was pretty much where the welcoming atmosphere and experience ended for us. The room itself was okay but lacking some amenities, there wasn’t really anything you wouldn’t get in a cheaper hotel other than nespresso machine accompanied by pods that had no description on. It was underwhelming for the price, but fine. Not far off a premier inn to be honest. That was until the evening hit. The hotel is VERY close to a bar that is open until 3am and has live music every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. And it is LOUD. The noise wasn’t helped by the fact that our window was broken and had a large gap in the bottom corner between the window and the frame. The hotel offered us earplugs and moved us to another room the next day (luckily our two remaining nights fell on the few days when the there isn’t a band next door, I’d be surprised if any room was free from noise on the live music nights) but the receptionist denied the window was broken (you could literally feel the wind coming through and see light!) and generally made us feel like we’d been a huge inconvenience for complaining for the rest of our stay. We also asked for help booking a taxi and were told “just call one”. Although the location is handy for getting around, it’s also the hotel’s downfall due to the noise. Reykjavik is a fairly small place, so it’s not essential to stay on the main pedestrian street, next time we’ll go a few streets out to a quieter spot.

The hotel is the definition of a boutique hotel - cosy, stylish and friendly. The reception staff were amazing - so helpful and it felt like a genuinely warm welcome. The room was pretty much a standard size. We were right over the Main Street which parties late on a weekend but the glazing cuts out most of the noise and the people watching opportunities are great. The location really couldn't be more central and everything is in easy reach. Highly recommended.

From the USA, came with 2 other people we all had different rooms on different floors and we all had amazing experiences. Hotel staff was great and they handled any issues we had. The entrance to the hotel is a little 😳, as it is a bit hidden in an alleyway but overall the hotel was great, planning to book again in 2024! Virginia at the front desk was amazing!
