Ion City (Reykjavik, Iceland) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"This design-led hotel, with its subtle Icelandic decorative motif, is located in the heart of the liveliest part of the city, so you’ll feel as though you’re in the thick of the action. It’s well worth upgrading to one of the suites as they have their own in-room saunas and boast city views. Middle Eastern and North African flavors are to the fore at the friendly and fun Sümac brasserie, which is run independently of the hotel." - Tablet Hotels

My husband and I had the most phenomenal stay at the Ion City Hotel! The location is convenient to amazing restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and nightlife. Although there is no parking onsite, there are several options within a block that are convenient and easy to use, even while carrying luggage. The accommodations were perfect and we had no complaints whatsoever about our room. You can see from the pictures how great this hotel looks, and I can confirm that the pictures reflect the truth (for the Jr Suite at least), but the main reason I wanted to write this review was for the remarkable staff members. ||The maid service was so kind and helpful, but also impeccable in their service. Everything was cleaned extensively, and I felt like we were moving into a new apartment, not just a hotel room. I also have to give a special shout out to Javier and Virginia, 2 of the front desk receptionists. They went above and beyond over our weeklong stay to make us comfortable and treated us more like long-time friends rather than just customers. Each time we entered the lobby, they always had smiles on their faces and we had so much fun just relaxing and talking with them. My husband and I have travelled extensively, and I can honestly say that we have never before had such an amazing experience based on the remarkable staff alone. Thank you for all that you do and helping us have the best vacation yet! Until next time, cheers!

I had a great experience at this hotel. The staff was so lovely, the location is extremely convenient, and the room was cozy and comfortable. Blackout curtains were a plus. The one drawback was the walls are a little thin and so I could hear conversations in the hallway quite loudly, but overall I still think it's a great value for Reykjavik pricing.

I booked this room through Marriott, as I am a loyal customer with Titanium Elite status, but I soon came to find out that means nothing at this hotel. I will start by saying, the location is very central and lively, situated on a popular pedestrian street with bars, restaurants and shopping. Now, having said that - being a pedestrian street, we had to find paid street parking nearby (about 2-3 blocks) and schlep our luggage to the hotel - there was no bellman or any assistance at all. Another note about the parking - between 0900-2100 it’s paid parking for 3 hours max before you have to move your car. Each 3hr chunk was about $15. It was only my daughter and I with 2 large and 2 small suitcases in total and we could barely fit inside the room. We had to use the shower for suitcase storage. As you would expect in most European places there is no AC, but we happened to be there on the most beautiful July day and it was literally 80*F outside, so we had the 1 tiny window open as much as it could (only a few inches). We could hear the loud music and reveling Icelanders until about 2am, and then after that, the trash cleanup crew until about 3am. The noise is not the hotels fault, but I wish I had known about this potential issue. We had an early wake up for a flight, and essentially got no sleep, despite the bed being extremely comfortable. Unfortunately, I don’t think I would choose to stay here again.

The location of this design hotel is the best you can get in Reykjavik .It's centrally located on the main street. The front desk staff is extremely helpful; they arranged cabs for us and helped us keep our luggage in storage. Very polite people. However, it's a very small and boutique hotel, the rooms are very small, and there is no breakfast area. One can have breakfast at many cafes around this place.

Booked this hotel in the Marriott app for $400 USD a night. Got there and found out it was not a Marriott, only “Marriott affiliated”. 🚫 NO free breakfast (or breakfast at all) 🚫 NO amenities (no gym, no pool, barely even a sitting area in the entrance) 🚫 NO lounge Biggest catfish of my Iceland trip. Staff was nice but the room was tiny, and I felt claustrophobic since it felt more like a bed and breakfast type of place where the only area you have is your room (except as stated, no breakfast lol) and the walls are super thin. Honestly aside from location, I don’t understand why anyone would pay that price to stay here. No bad blood with the hotel, just want others to know what they are signing up for…

This is a great hotel right on the main shopping road. The staff was extremely helpful and kind to us. We had a medical emergency and the staff was fantastic. They called an ambulance for us. They let us store our luggage there while I was in the hospital and my wife had to find another hotel. They were full and we needed to stay an extra night. When we come back to Iceland, we will stay here. Thank you for being so kind and understanding to a couple of scared American people.

We had an excellent experience at the ION city hotel. The location was perfect, walking distance to everything. The room was clean, modern, and cozy. Service was very good, every employee we encountered was very professional, helpful and friendly. I would recommend this hotel.

The Ion City Hotel in Reykjavik is a beautiful, modern hotel with spacious, well-designed rooms. The service is quite good, and the location couldn't be better.|Located in downtown Reykjavik on Laugavegur Street, you can easily walk to Hallgrímskirkja Church, the Sun Voyager, or the Harpa Center.|I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
